91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This young, fruity wine comes from vines owned by the Pitault-Landry family. It has an edge of tannins and freshly spicy fruits. Smoky, perfumed and packed with berry flavors, the wine will develop further. Drink from 2022. (RV)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: A rich ruby red with notes of violets and red berry fruits, this Cabernet Franc is nicely layered on the palate with brightness running throughout and just a touch of smoke mixed in with some purple fruits. Soft waves of mineral with a nice soft tannin make this a true delight ...

Wine Spectator: "This fleshy red shows black cherry, spice and herb flavors with firm tannins. It has good concentration and while it's drinkable now, it should improve. " (06/1997) K&L Notes: Joël Taluau was a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted...

Wine Enthusiast: "This is an attractive, black-fruit-flavored wine. Light tannins and acidity are already well integrated and balanced with the fruits. The wine is ready to drink. (RV)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: Established over 50 years ago, the 4th generation of the Denis family now runs this operation. Julien is the winemaker, Stephane in charge of the viticulture and Vincent oversees the administration and sales. Over the last decades the property has grown from 5 to 80 hectares that stretch across the appellation including some very select parcels in...

A rich ruby red with notes of violets and red berry fruits, this Cabernet Franc is nicely layered on the palate with brightness running throughout and just a touch of smoke mixed in with some purple fruits. Soft waves of mineral with a nice soft tannin make this a true delight to drink. Domaine les Pins has been family run for five generations. They are a small artisanal producer that oversees every stage of production from start to finish themselves. They have roughly 30 hectares of Cabernet Franc spread out through the Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bo...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2016 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard transported me back to the classical wines from the Bordeaux of yesteryear, with austerity and with no room for sweetness or creamy texture. This is about chalk and umami, salty and tasty, with the clout and wilderness of Gualtallary; its electric freshness and fine tannins; the expression of Cabernet Franc (with some Merlot) in the poor, stony and limestone-rich soils from the high-altitude vineyards; and the intensity this altitude provides, as there...

Joël Taluau was a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hadn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and this one is really coming into its own.

When Jean Noel Millon took over winemaking and farming at his family's estate in 1998, he represented the seventh generation to do so. The 10-hectare farm is certified organic and Millon complements the soil with herbal teas and homemade composts to strengthen the vines' natural defenses. Winery tasting notes: "It is the emblematic wine of the estate with its aromatic expression of red fruit. The palate is crunchy and juicy with ripe, fresh fruit which gives it good drinkability." *organic*

93 points James Suckling: "This is such a delicious cabernet franc with blackberry and floral notes on the nose and palate, which draw you in and invite you to drink. Medium body. Round, creamy tannins and a delicious finish. The use of whole berries really makes this. Drink or hold" (02/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The expressive and elegant 2017 El Enemigo Cabernet Franc has some 8% Malbec in the blend. It's a subtle red with nuance and detail, very harmonious, aromatic, even floral within the spicy character of the variety. The pa...

Watkins Family is an obscure and, naturally, a family-owned little winery in the Sonoma Valley, focusing on mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Randall Watkins also makes wine at a venerable estate that's a little better known to fans of classic, mountain-grown California Cabernet from an older school: the renewed Laurel Glen Vineyard. The Bugay Vineyard sits above the fog line atop the beautiful Mayacamas Mountains between the towns of Santa Rosa and Calistoga.

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand-harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot planted in 1934, has power, depth and grace; this, their flagship wine, will improve for the next 7-9 years but can be enjoyed now for those of you who like a mouthful of wine.

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Impressively saturated ruby-red color. Complex aromas of black raspberry, kirsch, Valrhona chocolate, smoke and gunflint. Tactile and quite concentrated; really dense with extract. Ripe acidity gives the deep flavors lovely clarity. A real fruit essence: the wine somewhat chewy tannins and alcohol are hidden by fruit. (ST)" (12/1998) K&L Notes: Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the...

2008 Le Dôme, St-Émilion
Back In Stock!
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot, the 2008 Le Dome comes from a tiny site not far from Angélus and is made by Jonathan Maltus. This beauty boasts a deep ruby, opaque color as well as a seductive, forward style its black and blue fruits, lavender, spring flowers, and forest floor aromas and flavors. Incredibly elegant on the palate, with medium to full body, sweet tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great finish, it’s fully mature today (and drinking beautifully!) but will cruise for another decade in cold cellar...

93 points Vinous: "From one of Baudry’s top limestone sites. Aged 12 months in 2- to 5-year-old barrels, then rests for nine months in cement tanks. Still young and rambunctious, very juicy and full of energy, very like Pinot-like. It’s one of the fruitier Baudry expressions, with lots of black and sour cherry, some blackberry and tomato, and light stoniness on the finish. Give this a year or two and it will pay back your patience. (JW)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: 94-96 pts from Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "This sample was tasted from cement cuve, the wi...

90 points Vinous: "Le Temps des Cerises (or “Cherry Time!” as Jérôme jokes) is Domaine de la Noblaie’s everyday Chinon and represents half of their Cabernet Franc production. Bright ruby. Classic fresh and savory Chinon nose, delivering lots of black pepper, tomato and olive. On the palate, thought, it’s plush and fruity, with fleshy plum and ripe cherry, balanced by chalk and more black pepper. Aged five months in stainless steel. (JR)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: 92-94 Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "Jérôme’s entry-level red cuvée comes from the majority o...

94 points Vinous: "L’Huisserie is full of silex (limestone and flint). Less bright and more autumnal than 2018, offering forest aromas and ripe wild berry. On the palate, lots of ripe plum and blackberry, and on the finish, stony, even a little bloody, with a touch of campfire. Beautifully complex and textured. There’s a good, lean rustic quality to this. Wonderful value for such an accomplished wine. Aged one year in older barrique, then in cement for six months. (JW)" (07/2020) 92 points Decanter: "This wine comes from vines on flinty clay soil at th...

92 points Vinous: "A rush of sweet red cherry, pomegranate, blood orange, dark spice and graphite race across the palate in Lieu Dit's 2018 Cabernet Franc Sans Soufre. The 2018 exudes striking purity in its flavors, with a good bit of aromatic intensity from the 33% whole clusters. This is such a beautiful and expressive wine today, even though it was just bottled. (AG)" (09/2019)

94 points James Suckling: "A spicy and deliciously fresh Cabernet Franc that shows dried herbs, cedar, dried blueberries and lavender. The palate has a soft and velvety mouthfeel, but remains dialed-in with edgy acidity and firm tannins." (03/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The pure Cabernet Franc 2017 Pirque Vineyard sticks out like a sore thumb when tasted next to the other wines from Maule with its minty and creamy Maipo Cabernet personality. It comes from a vineyard planted in the 1980s in Pirque at around 700 meters in altitude. Th...

93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From a tiny 1.2-hectare site near the village on the upper plateau, the 2018 Clos Saint Julien is made by the incredibly talented Catherine Papon-Nouvel (of Petit Gravet Ainé) and is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot aging in new French oak. There are a scant 5,000 bottles produced and it offers thrilling notes of crème de cassis, spiced red currants, dried earth, and subtle background oak. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and multi-dimensional on the palate, with polished tannins, it’s going to benefit from shor...

Winery notes: "Cabernet Franc (Loire clones) sourced from a 30-year-old vineyard on the East Side of Seneca Lake, planted on gravel, clay & shale. Harvest followed by gentle foot-trodding and a 10-day cold soak prior (partial Carbonic Maceration). 50% Whole Cluster, fermented with a combination of Indigenous Yeasts, Burgundy yeast & Rhone yeast (all separate tanks/ferments) for nearly 2 months in open-top fermenters, 2x daily punch-downs. Moved to old barrique for malolactic fermentation & 8-month elevage, bottled unfined & unfiltered."

In keeping with the growing trend of many fine boutique producers in northern California, Dewey's makes low-intervention, small-lot, single-site expressions from some of the Golden State's unheralded yet exceptional vineyards. Winemaker's notes: "In 2018 we jumped at the opportunity to work with a couple tons of cab franc from Barsotti. The grapes were fermented native, 100% whole-cluster, and punched down twice a day with two bare feet. We pressed gently to a combination of neutral oak and stainless steel barrels. Other than sulfur the wine received no ...

91 points Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "This cuvée brings us to the soils of Bourgueil, another entry-level cuvée analogous to La Source. It used to be called La Coudraye, but the name has been changed now to reflect the sourcing of fruit from a number of other parcels alongside La Coudraye, including three lieux-dits named Les Sables, Les Pins and Les Perrières with mostly sandy soils. I have to own up to an error in my previous tasting note, as Côte 50 refers to the altitude of these various parcels, which sit on the côte at an altitude of 50 metres ...

97 points Decanter: "The en primeur sample of the 2019 vintage, as I did not taste in the spring. Full of vivacity and austerity, dominated by the Cabernet Franc, showing roundness and depth to the black fruits as they open, with clear bilberry, cassis and blueberry, a ton of gentle charred smoke notes and graphite. Strong opulence and huge tannins. A wine that is going to age for decades. (JA)" (10/2020) Jancis Robinson: "Compact, dense and structured but just a little austere at present. Fresh and lifted with a hint of tea and floral notes, depth of ...

Baudry's Les Granges may be his workhorse Chinon but it always lands as one of the sexiest and most fulfilling Chinons released each year. From vines aged 30+ years all planted over sand and gravelly soils, this is bright, refreshing and exotic. All fermentation and elevage are done in concrete tanks preserving that vibrant fruit. An outstanding value from one of the leaders in Chinon.

98 points Vinous: "The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Matarocchio, the estate's pure Cabernet Franc, is stunning. Dark, sumptuous and super-expressive, the 2016 is a seamless, exotic beauty. Even with all of its richness, the 2016 remains finessed and nuanced to the core, with exceptional balance and tons of energy. This vibrant Bolgheri Cabernet Franc will drink well for many years. (AG)" (03/2020) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Matarocchio is a wine of muscle and brawn that opens to dark thickness and deep layers of black fruit, spice, l...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Le Macchiole "Paleo" Bolgheri Rosso Superiore (98VN, 97RP, 95ST, 95W&S, 94JS, 92WS). Vinous: "The 2001 Paleo Rosso is a true stand out. Huge, powerful and intense to the core, the 2001 boasts stunning depth. At times, the 2001 tastes like it was made yesterday. A brutal spring frost lowered yields dramatically, resulting in one of the biggest, most concentrated Paleo Rossos ever made. The rest of the growing season was quite moderate, with cool nights that allowed for an even maturation of the grapes. The 2001 is the first Paleo Rosso to be made with 100% Cabernet Franc, and it remains one of the best editions for this pioneering Tuscan red. What a wine. The 2001 spent 16 months in French oak barrels, divided evenly between standard 225-liter barrels and smaller, half-size 112-liter barrels. (AG)" (04/2014)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Poggio al Tesoro "W - Dedicato a Walter" Cabernet Franc Bolgheri Superiore (93RP, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here is another wine that is now upgraded to Bolgheri Superiore status from IGT Toscana. The 2012 Bolgheri Superiore Dedicato A Walter (100% Cabernet Franc) shows bold varietal characteristics with dark fruit, spice, coffee bean, rosemary oil and balsam herb. All those aromas are rolled together into a great tapestry of luscious intensity. (ML)" (10/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2014 Kapcsándy "Rapszodia - State Lane Vineyard" Yountville Cabernet Franc-Merlot (97JD, 97JS, 97VN, 95RP). Vinous: "The 2014 Rapszodia, Kapcsándy's Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, is once again utterly compelling. Cabernet Franc aromatics soar from the glass as this majestic, stunningly beautiful wine shows off its pedigree. Vivid, nuanced and finely sculpted, the 2014 hits all the right notes as the flavors and textures build into the huge, enveloping finish. This is the most impressive showing yet from the 2014. Here, too, interplay of richness and energy makes for a captivating wine. (AG) 97+" (12/2016)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2013 Del Dotto Napa Valley Cabernet Franc. According to Robert Parker: "One of the bright, shining stars of Napa is David Del Dotto’s winery. His faux-Italian villa gets mixed reactions from the locals, but there’s no question that the wines are of impeccably high quality, and certainly world-class in every sense."
Starting Bid: $256.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1986 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (93JG, 93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1986 Cheval Blanc has a far superior bouquet to the 1996 Cheval Blanc when I tasted them side by side. The aromatics here are far more cohesive and complex, very delineated with expressive Cabernet Franc, hints of cooked meat, cranberry, juniper berries and wilted rose petals - just gorgeous. The palate is beautifully balanced with slightly furry tannin that is offset by a superb seam of acidity. It is nicely structured but not overbearing, leather and truffle filtering through the black fruit and while there is a little austerity on the finish, it is purely complementary. Though 1986 is not known as a Right Bank vintage, the 1986 Cheval Blanc pulled victory out of the bag and at 30 years, it continues to give immense pleasure (NM)." (12/2016)
Starting Bid: $1,202.00

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (96JG, 96JS, 96ST, 96WS, 94JD, 92RP). James Suckling: "I have tasted this wine at least four or five times in the last two months and it is clearly classic. Some can be a little austere and thin though. This bottle was gorgeous with such pure and bright fruit. It showed aromas of dried cherries and mushrooms that turn to sliced ripe plums. It’s full with round and ripe tannins, and a long, long finish." (03/2012)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Le Dôme, St-Émilion (99JD, 95WE, 94RP, 93JS, 93ST, 93WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2010 Le Dôme is a powerhouse that shows concentration of this incredible vintage, yet has remarkable purity and elegance front and center. As always, the blend is mostly Cabernet Franc blended with around 20% Merlot and it offers a terrific floral quality in its blue fruits, graphite, crushed rock and violet aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, deep, and again, incredibly concentrated, with fine tannin and sound acidity, it stays weightless and graceful on the palate, and can be drunk anytime over the coming two-plus decades." (02/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 2016 Kapcsándy "Rapszodia - State Lane Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Franc (99JD, 97RP, 94VN). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Rapszodia is just about as good as it gets and is 100% Cabernet Franc brought up 91% new French oak. This inky colored effort offers a truly sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, spring flowers, and graphite, with some subtle chocolaty oak and spice developing with time in the glass. While this cuvée was first made in 2010, it's only been 100% Cabernet Franc twice, once in 2015 and now in 2016. All about elegance and complexity, this perfectly balanced, layered wine is a tour de force in Cabernet Franc that will stand up with the greatest examples of this variety out there." (01/2019)
Starting Bid: $175.00

Bid on this bottle of 2003 Favia "Cerro Sur" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (95RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Cerro Sur is primarily Cabernet Franc blended with some Cabernet Sauvignon. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a complex nose of blue and red fruits, graphite, lavender and spring flowers. This highly complex, aromatic, rich, medium to full-bodied 2003 is a showcase for the brilliance of Cabernet Franc grown in Napa. It stands as a beacon to those who are bullish about this grape’s potential. Approachable now, it should continue to drink well for a decade. (RP)" (06/2013)
Starting Bid: $80.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2016 Justin "Justification" Paso Robles Cabernet Franc-Merlot (91WE). Wine Enthusiast: "This blend of 57% Merlot and 43% Cabernet Franc begins quite subtly on the nose, with aromas of berry, mint and oak. Polished tannins frame the palate, where flavors of black cherry, espresso bean and dried mint arise. (MK)" (12/2019)
