Giorgi Natenadze forages grapes in the volcanic soils of the Meskheti region located in the southwest of Georgia. The vines are growing wild and range from 200-400 years of age. The Red is a blend of one white and two red grape varieties - Meskhuri Sapere, Meskhuri kharistvala (Bull’s eye red), Tskhenis dzudzu tetri (Horse breast white) - aged all in Qvevri. A superbly unique and fascinating red that feels somewhere between a Cru Beaujolais and a Georgian Saperavi. Tremendous fun! *Natural Wine*

According to the importer: "Appellation controlled, red semi-sweet wine "Khvanchkara" is made from the Mujuretuli and Alexandrouli grape varieties grown in the district of Racha-Lechkhumi. Racha-Lechkhumi is located in western Georgia at the basins of the Rioni and Tskhenistskali rivers. The wine has a dark-ruby color, a well-developed varietal aroma and a velvety taste with a raspberry flavor. Pairs well with nuts, dried fruit, and other sweets."

Before the Greeks, before the Romans, it was the Georgians who were making wine. Archeological evidence dates back 8,000 years and references to Georgian wines can be found in the writings of Homer and Apollonius, and even the Georgian alphabet seems to have its origins in the shapes made by the tendrils of grape vines. Pheasant's Tears is the joint effort of American John Wurdeman, Georgian Gela Patalishvili, and Swedes Erik Andermo, Jakob Mörndal, and Henrik Callerstrand. They work to preserve and promote this ancient cultural legacy. All of Pheasant's...
