2000 de Viaud, Lalande-de-Pomerol
Top Pick!
Known for their practice of holding back vintages to maturity, this small but high-quality Lalande-de-Pomerol producer crafts some best-in-class wines that are often tough to find but remarkably rewarding. De Viaud remains a family-run property of the Bielle family, and is a great reference-point for classic claret in the modern era.

92 points Wine Spectator: "Young and rambunctious, intense and concentrated, with a mix of wild berry, currant, smoke, roasted meat, charred oak and ripe currant fruit, supported by firm tannins. Finishes with lead pencil and fresh earth nuances. Needs time. Best from 2005 through 2014. 215 cases made." (10/2003) K&L Notes: Information about the Elevation 1147 from the Winery: "Every year we have the opportunity to take the best of the best grapes and let them stand by themselves, we call this Elevation 1147. Elevation 1147 is always 100% Cabernet Sauv...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and the large format bottle will have helped to preserve freshness.

2000 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Back In Stock!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 2000 Mouton Rothschild (composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot) boldly bursts from the glass with tantalizing Black Forest cake, dried mulberries, kirsch and blackcurrant pastilles notes plus wafts of iodine, incense, potpourri and cinnamon stick with a hint of cigar boxes. Medium to full-bodied, the palate packs in the muscular fruit, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with phenomenal length. This is an incredibly compl...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "An elegant Rioja made in a more traditional style. The nose is a little baked and raisiny, with additional aromas of caramel and leather. The palate is where this wine shines: the feel is elegant and smooth, while the cherry and raspberry flavors are subtle and a little bit tangy. Mature and sexy stuff; more classic than modern, but not 100% old-school." (12/2008) Jancis Robinson: "Brght ruby and still youthful looking. Developed mix of red plums, gentle gamey notes, and sweet leather. Smooth and round and very fresh, especi...

90 points Robert Parker: "The 2000 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch (13.4% alcohol) is a beautiful, complex example made from all of the new French Dijon clones. It offers aromas of cherry liqueur, cola, plums, Asian spices, and earth. This dense, chewy, pure, and long offering should drink well for 7-8 years." (08/02)
Price: $39.99

91 points Wine Spectator: "Very clean, with blackberry, mineral and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and lots of good fruit. Seems tight now, needing a few years of bottle age to open. Best after 2006." (05/05)
Price: $59.99

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One can’t say enough about this winery, which may still fly under the radar of most consumers. The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. With full body, a velvety texture, and beautiful weight, richness, and length, this superb wine should evolve, possibly improve for another 15 years. It’s a beauty! (RP)" (06/2010) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Cathiards have made a polished wine with generous fruit. It manages to combine a m...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "By the standards of the average 2000 red, this is still exceptionally young, indeed to the point of being somber and almost taciturn on the earth red and dark berry fruit nose that leads to backward if round medium full flavors that finish with pronounced firmness on the nicely long finale. This will require the better part of a decade to really be at its best." (11/2006)
Price: $189.99

90 points Wine Spectator: "Well-made, supple and balanced, with rich, silky currant, earth and black cherry fruit that picks up a touch of leather and sage on the firm, focused finish." (11/2003)
Price: $59.99

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby-colored 2000 Pinot Noir Three Colts Vineyard (14.2% alcohol), displays tangy acidity along with hints of cola, cherries, plums, and vanilla is It possesses some tannin, along with loads of pungent red fruits in the aromatics and flavors. Enjoy it over the next 6-7 years. " (08/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good dark red. Pungent aromas of black raspberry jam, black cherry, licorice and roasted oak, along with pepper and torrefaction notes. Then fresh and penetrating in the mouth, with i...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and thickly layered, with boysenberry and fig paste flavors taking the lead, pushed by some hefty ganache and black licorice notes. The finish has an ample roasted apple wood injection holding sway, though there's good underlying cut thanks to a buried chalky minerality. Still seems like this will rely more on extraction in the end. (JM, Web-2016)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Clos Fourtet ’00 has a backward nose that takes time to evolve in the glass. Very pure dark berried fruit with cassis, blueberry, ...

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Nearly black color. Extremely youthful, unforthcoming nose hints at black cherry, plum, violet, bitter chocolate, quinine and bell pepper. This is almost too concentrated and tannic to describe. Palate- and toothstaining flavors of black plum, coffee liqueur, spices, tobacco, vanilla and herbs abound. Alcoholic, heady wine, with a much denser and more tannic finish than the Amarones of Giuseppe Quintarelli. Not for those who believe that less can be more. This cult producer's 2000s are clearly superi...

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright ruby-red. Complex nose combines raspberry, black cherry, violet, minerals, mocha and tobacco. Offers a distinctly claret-like texture, with supple flavors of raspberry, leather, minerals and game. Nicely consistent cabernet with a pleasing balance and a sweet middle for the vintage. Finishes with big but lush tannins and very good persistence. (ST)" (06/2003) K&L Notes: Ric Forman is one of the living legends of California winemaking. With a history at Sterling, Newton, Duckhorn, Abreu...

91 points Stephen Tanzer: "(from a vineyard across River Road from the winery) Good full ruby-red. sappy aromas of black cherry and black raspberry, with tar and dusty nuances. Sweet, sappy and opulent, with a lovely plump middle and chewy texture. This has very good stuffing. Finishes with fine tannins and persistent, somewhat youthfully aggressive fruit." (May/Jun 2002)

2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. One of the all-time great examples of Lynch Bages, the 2000 is just beginning to drink well yet promises to last for another 20-25+ years. (RP)" (08/...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Montrose, St-Estèphe (96JD, 96JS, 94RP, 94ST, 93WS, 92W&S). James Suckling: "Just starting to open, it shows beautiful spices and dark fruit on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied with ultra-fine, integrated tannins and an extremely complex, refined finish." (04/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Bellevue, St-Emilion (95RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This was the breakthrough vintage for this fabulous terroir that had been under-exploited for so many years. A collaboration between Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt, this medium to full-bodied, pure blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc reveals aromas reminiscent of a liqueur of crushed rocks, black currants, and raspberries. The tannins are still present, and the wine is firmer than I expected, but it is loaded. (RP) 95+" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Great Hermitage red from Guigal. *Top 100 Wines of 2003* (PM)" (09/2003)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Paolo Scavino "Bric dël Fiasc" Barolo (98WS, 96RP, 95JS). Wine Spectator: "Very, very ripe fruit, with strawberries and plums galore. Turns to Indian spices and cedar. Full-bodied, with an exquisite palate of utlraripe tannins that turn to velvet. Long, long finish. Cashmere. Great from barrel, great from bottle. This is the best Bric dël Fiasc ever. *Ranked #4 of the Top 100 of 2004* (JS)" (07/2004)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (95VN, 93DC, 93RP, 92ST). Vinous: "Do you want the good news or the bad news? Well, Ridge's 2000 Monte Bello is still not ready to drink. Huge, rich and voluptuous, but backed up by serious structure, the 2000 is still a very, very young wine. Readers who own the 2000 should be thrilled. With time in the glass, the 2000 starts to open up a little bit aromatically, but the tannins remain imposing. Hints of tobacco, iron, smoke, savory herbs, leather and licorice all add nuance on the close. This dramatic, brooding Monte Bello will likely drink well for another three decades. In 2000, Montebello is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. (AG)" (07/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98WE, 94DC, 93VN, 93WS, 91RP). Wine Enthusiast: "A stupendous wine that epitomizes the Harlan style of grace and power. Shows how the most elaborate vineyard and winery practices can contribute to a near-perfect wine, even in a less heralded vintage. The flavors cascade in endless tiers, black currant, cherry, mocha, Indian pudding, oak and spice, all coming together in a minute-long finish. Magnificent. *Cellar Selection*" (11/2004)
Starting Bid: $500.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (96JS, 96RP, 94JG, 94WS, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the medium to deep garnet-brick colored 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou charges out of the gate with flamboyant scents of baked black currants, raisin cake, prunes, Chinese five spice and eucalyptus plus touches of cigar box, new leather and cast iron pan. Medium-bodied, the palate is remarkably refreshing with all these decadent spice and dried berries layers coating the palate, textured by soft, powdery tannins, finishing long and mineral laced. Stunning! (LPB)" (08/2020)
Starting Bid: $340.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Bond "Matriarch" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (93WS). Wine Spectator: "An awesome wine, with rich, vivid, concentrated currant, black cherry, plum and wild berry flavors that are sharply focused. The tannins are ripe and smooth on the palate, with a supple, graceful finish redolent of rich fruit flavors and pretty spicy nuances. (JL)" (09/2004)
Starting Bid: $85.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Gruaud Larose, St-Julien (94RP, 94W&S, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied, and rich, it has hit its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for another 20 or more years. (RP)" (06/2010)
