93 points James Suckling: "There's licorice here along with mint, some lead pencil and flowers. It's full and round displaying wonderful vanilla and plum flavors. Very silky and refined yet dense and caressing. A beauty, though it does turn a little dry, always revealing its wood." (11/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Very pretty aromas of vanilla, tobacco, berry and chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, with soft tannins and a berry, chocolate finish. Not very dense. This pales compared with the other top Pauillacs. I never thought this was a perfect win...

According to Jasper Morris: "The Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pére et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731 though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house, Joseph Henriot, acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Today Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet while the wines are made by Philippe Prost who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005, enabling them, to process all their wines with optimum effi...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 Cornas is a more tender style of Cornas than I am used to from Clape; it is not as concentrated as the 1989. It also comes across as lighter, softer, and not nearly as rich and full as most of this estate's wines tend to be. It is drinking surprisingly well at the moment. While some may applaud both the 1989's and 1988's lack of the forbiddingly raw, hard tannin that the savage wines of Cornas can possess, it is those characteristics that I feel make Cornas so distinctive, and repay those who cellar it for 10 or m...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The backward 1988 Pavie is a structured, tannic wine, balanced nicely by elegant, ripe, tobacco and black cherry-scented fruit, good acidity, and a long, spicy, tannic finish. (RP)" (02/1993) Vinous: "The 1988 Pavie is a vintage I have met a couple of times before, this predating Gérard Perse’s acquisition in 1997. It has an attractive old school nose of light black fruit, roof tiles and cedar; a little diffuse but still fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with a tart cherry entry, wild mushroom and sandalwood. (NM)" (05/...

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune" Côte-Rôtie (98VN, 96JG, 94RP). Vinous: "I tasted the 1988 Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune from Domaine Gentaz-Dervieux after a flight of rather formulaic Chapoutier wines. The Gentaz-Dervieux is on a completely different level. Showing some signs of bricking on the rim, the bouquet is pixelated in clarity, adorned with effervescent scents of red cherries, garrigue, fennel, orange blossom and wilted rose petals. The palate does not stint on fruit intensity, and yet the finesse and grace of this Côte-Rôtie is quite profound. Perfectly balanced, long and tender, the 1988 is a stunning Northern Rhône, and yet the munificent donor said he had experienced better bottles. The mind boggles. (NM)" (07/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (93JS, 92WS). James Suckling: "There's licorice here along with mint, some lead pencil and flowers. It's full and round displaying wonderful vanilla and plum flavors. Very silky and refined yet dense and caressing. A beauty, though it does turn a little dry, always revealing its wood." (11/2015)

Bid on this magnum of 1988 Dalla Valle "Maya" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (93RP, 90VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 Maya, made from a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Cabernet Franc, has a dense, very opaque black/purple color, a huge bouquet of super-ripe cassis, licorice, and vanillin aromas, followed by astonishingly intense, highly extracted, impeccably well-balanced, full-bodied flavors. The bad news is that only 200 cases were produced, so latching onto a bottle or two will not be easy. It should drink well over the next 20-25 years, probably longer. (RP)" (10/1993)
Starting Bid: $510.00

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Williams Selyem "Rochioli Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (95WS). Wine Spectator: "Delicious wine, ripe, smooth and juicy, with tiers of plum, black cherry, anise and spice. Amazingly elegant, complex and delicate. (JL)" (10/1997)
Starting Bid: $134.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1988 Diamond Creek "Red Rock Terrace" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Spectator: "Shows a shade more depth and flavor than the Gravelly Meadow, with earthy black cherry, leather, cedar and spice. Well balanced, this is one of a handful of 1988s that may have a future. Finishes with ripe, well-integrated tannins. (JL)" (11/1998)
