92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is a very pretty, floral wine with terrific freshness. Crushed red berries, mint, flowers and citrus give the 2018 a terrific sense of energy and verve. Gracious, lifted and finely cut, the 2018 is positively stellar. I loved it. (AG)" (04/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This appellation wine impresses in its delivery of supple herbal, earthy and high-toned flavor. 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 27% new. It delivers vibrant notes of black cherries, kirsch and mulberries with suggestions of garrigue and forest floor. Joseph Swan is one of the pioneering producers in Russian River Valley. Decades ago, this estate helped to set the bar for Russian River Valley Zinfandel and in so doing played a pivotal role in the establishment of the region as a bona fide AVA. However, Pinot Noir also plays a central role in the estate's production, and they are arguably better known today for their impeccably classic Pinot Noirs than anything else. The Cuvée de Trois is a true AVA wine sourced from Swan's estate vineyards and a handful of classic sites in Russian River that are long-...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The plum, allspice, herbaceous, tannic 2001 Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch possesses a dense ruby/purple color, medium body, a firm structure, and tangier, more elevated acidity than its siblings. (RP) " (12/2003) Vinous: "Medium ruby, not particularly bright. Cassis, blackberry, cracked pepper and minerals on the nose, along with a faint meaty nuance. Dense and rich, with very purple flavors of dark, wild fruits and meat. Offers a silky texture and nicely integrated acidity. But still a bit youthfully tough, and firm-edged...

2016 Siduri "Perry Ranch" (Keefer Ranch) Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $50+) (Elsewhere $50+)
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of my favorites in the lineup was the 2016 Pinot Noir Perry Ranch Vineyard, which comes from a cooler site in the Russian River (this use to be Keefer Ranch Vineyard). Medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced and elegant, it has complex notes of salty minerality, ripe cherries, currants, and crushed violets. I love its balance, purity, and length, and would happily drink bottles over the coming decade." (06/2018) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Demure and lightly earthy in forest and cardamom, this wine is defined by that ...

2018 DuMol "Wester Reach" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A thick, rich opening of wild strawberry preserve and raspberry tea leads the way to a midpalate of grippy texture and lifted acidity in this impressive wine. Savory seasonings of black tea, forest floor and cardamom echo and add to the wine’s varietal complexity. (VB)" (01/2021) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Pinot Noir Wester Reach has a medium ruby color and a nose of cranberry sauce, blackberries, cinnamon stick, forest floor, black tea leaves and accents of potpourri. Made entirely with free-run...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "There are 780 cases of the 2018 Pinot Noir DuMOL Estate Vineyard, another awesome bottle of Pinot Noir from Andy Smith. All destemmed and aged 15 months in 45% new French oak, its deeper ruby color is followed by a stunning nose of black raspberries, scorched earth, charcoal, forest floor, and candied orange zest. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated, it has some background oak to integrate, but offers perfect balance in its tannins and acidity, a great mid-palate, and a great finish." 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the reds, the 2016 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley offers a light ruby/purple color as well as complex notes of kirsch, black raspberries, garrigue, and spice. Ramey has started using a touch of whole cluster and this was 75% destemmed, with that touch of stems adding a certain complexity and attractive herbal note. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and elegant on the palate, it will keep for a decade." 2018 Gary Farrell "Russian River Selection" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Little Hill tastes like unmanipulated, super-concentrated black cherry and black raspberry juice. Little oak is noticeable, and the wine offers stunning purity, texture and length. Perfumed and intense but not the least bit heavy, with no component out of balance, this wine will require patience. Give it several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 10-15 years. (RP) 92-94+ " (12/2014) 94 points Vinous: "The Rochioli 2013 Pinot Noir Little Hill is one of the most structured ...

90-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The seductive, deep ruby-hued 2013 Pinot Noir Sweetwater offers up lots of kirsch, flower and black fruit aromas. Tom Rochioli has brilliantly pulled off the harvest and fermentation as the tannins are wonderfully sweet and well-integrated, and the influence of new oak is delicate. Lush, opulent and already delicious, this wine should drink well for 5-7 years. (RP)" (12/2014) 92 points Vinous: "Rochioli 2013 Pinot Noir Sweetwater is exotic, perfumed and full of nuance. 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Sweet black raspberries, black cherries, spice box, flower garden, and smoked herb notes all emerge from the 2016 Pinot Noir UV Lucky Well Vineyard, and it's from a site on the western edge of the Russian River and saw the standard 11 months in one-third new French oak. Supple, rounded, and fleshy on the palate, it nevertheless stays classy and beautifully balanced, with rock-solid length. It's going to be better this time next year yet keep for a decade." 98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the Pinot Noirs, this is easily the finest lineup I've tasted from Andy Smith. These are magical wines that check in at the top of the vintage. The 2018 Pinot Noir Jentoft Vineyard Ryan comes from the Russian River Valley and was all destemmed and spent 15 months in 40% new French oak. This is classic Pinot Noir all the way with its ripe black raspberry, baking spices, forest floor, background oak, and earth. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it's seamless, flawlessly balanced, and has a great,...

94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Altamont is a dense, beautifully resonant wine. Next to the Goldridge, the Altamont has quite a bit more textural depth and overall intensity. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and blood orange all run through this expressive, pliant Pinot Noir. Today, the 2016 is quite forbidding. I would give it a few years in the cellar to fully come together. The 8% whole clusters add aromatic top notes, but aren't especially noticeable. (AG)" (05/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Minerally and filled with plenty o...

Weighty and chewy in texture, offering powerful cherry-cola and black raspberry flavors and an energizing note of white pepper. Closes with excellent clarity and length, leaving notes of mocha and cola behind. The most masculine of this year's set of Pinots from Rochioli and the one most in need of patience. 91 points Stephen Tanzer: "(from a vineyard across River Road from the winery) Good full ruby-red. sappy aromas of black cherry and black raspberry, with tar and dusty nuances. Incredibly aromatic in rose and raspberry, the palate brings velvety layers of dark cherry and cinnamon, with integrated acidity keeping the balance. (VB)" (05/2019) Vinous: "The 2017 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is absolutely delicious. 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Vibrant red and dark berry scents are complicated by white pepper, dried rose and smoky minerals. Impressively fresh strawberry and black raspberry flavors stain the palate, picking up a bitter licorice quality on the back end. Puts on weight with air and finishes with a jolt of smoky Indian spices. This is the most open-knit of the Pinots this year." (06/2009) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, fleshy, full-bodied and expansive, with a mix of savory berry, herb, tea, tobacco and earth. We...

92 points John Gilman: "I do not know how many winegrowers in Sonoma are farming biodynamically these days, but Alex Davis has been doing so for several years now and the wines seem to really speak more eloquently of their underlying terroir as a result. The 2016 Fiona Hill bottling of pinot noir is a first class follow-up to the superb 2015 version, coming in at a similar octane to last year’s bottling and delivering a fine aromatic constellation of cherries, pomegranate, a hint of mustard seed, lovely and quite complex soil tones, gamebird, a touch of ...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the reds, the 2017 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley was all destemmed (as are all the Pinot Noirs here) and was brought up 11 months in just 20% new French oak. Its ruby/plum and translucent hue is followed by a savory nose of mulled black cherry and currant fruits interwoven with lots of spice, forest floor, earth, and bouquet garni. Textured and medium-bodied, with good acidity and great balance, I suspect it's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and should have a decade or more of overall longevity. With...

Velvety smooth and full bodied in style, it delivers concentrated complexity and undeniable appeal. (VB)" (09/2019) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Earl Stephens Vineyard comes from a Russian River site and was brought up in 55% new French oak. It has a darker core of fruit, showing notes of tart black cherries, cranberries, damp earth, leafy underbrush, and spring flowers. It's...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Castalia "Rochioli" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. This is a wonderfully juicy, accessible, Pinot. The smell filled the tasting bar and was full of rich red cherry, carob, cassis liqueur and earthier notes of loam and fennel. Bold, pure crystal clear the wine hits the palate. Smooth and/or silky are really not the right words to describe the texture of this wine. It is both of those things but way ramped up, all the while being surprisingly light.
Starting Bid: $77.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Kosta Browne "Treehouse Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (96JD, 95JS, 95WE, 93RP, 92WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Brought up in 45% new oak, the 2016 Pinot Noir Treehouse Vineyard comes from a site in the Russian River that has slightly redder soils, which always seems to give wines from this site more minerality as well as higher acidity. This 2016 offers a fresh, focused, yet seamless style to go with a huge bouquet of cassis, underbrush, violets, and hints of blood orange. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, has beautifully integrated acidity, and a pretty, pure, graceful profile. Give bottles a year or two and it should keep for a decade." (06/2018)
Starting Bid: $320.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2016 Rochioli "Little Hill" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (95RP, 94VN). Medium to full-bodied with a rock-solid grainy textured, it has a lively backbone cutting through the seriously intense kirsch flavors, finishing long and earthy. (LPB) 95+" (06/2018)
Starting Bid: $450.00

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Martinelli "Bondi Home Ranch - Water Trough" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (90RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tart acidity and a crisp, elegant personality, with more smoky, herbal notes and a decidedly cool climate style characterizes the 2002 Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch Water Trough Vineyard. This wine is well-made, but a completely different expression of Pinot Noir from a cooler area. (RP)" (02/2005)

Of the 2016 DuMol "Estate" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir,Vinous writes: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard is an absolutely stellar wine. Dark and also quite savory in the glass, the 2016 presents a super-intriguing range of aromas, flavors and textures. The Estate has a Syrah-like feeling of density and darkness that is incredibly appealing. Huge tannins need time to soften. Readers who can wait will be rewarded with a magnificent Pinot Noir.
