Wine Spectator: "Pleasant aromas of plums and chocolate. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a fruity finish. (JS)" (01/2000) K&L Notes: Here's a ridiculous value in ready-to-drink Bordeaux. Time in the bottle helps integrate flavor compounds and soften tanning to develop greater complexity. This was really delicious to begin with and has only gotten better. Load up.

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark garnet with ruby/purple reflections. Appealing aromas of sweet tobacco and cherry are followed by intense berry fruit flavors (especially raspberry and cranberry) laced with mint. The tannins are pliant in this lush but racy wine, and the sustained finish resonates with prominent tobacco scents. Classy and convincing. (EB)" (08/2002) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A firm, classic upstanding wine, with dry, firm fruit tannins that support generous ripe fruit. Aromas of violets and toasty wood are ...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa looks to be one of the finest wines made by the winemaking team of proprietor Justin Meyer and winemaker/viticulturist Daniel Baron. The 1997 Napa is an impressive effort. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine has a flamboyant nose of fruitcake, licorice, Asian spice, black currants, and toasty wood. Deep, opulent, viscous, intense, chewy, and thick, it is a classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon made in an all-American oak lovers...

1997 Gaudin, Pauillac
Top Pick!
Located on the gravelly ridges of the village of Saint-Lambert in Pauillac, Château Gaudin is a vineyard of 4 hectares acquired in 1901. Three generations later, the estate is still family owned and run. The estate is now 11 hectares total with Cabernet Sauvignon dominating the plantings along with a smattering of Merlot and Carménère. Its classic Pauillac stature frames black fruits, tobacco, and gravelly soil tones with robust and firm tannins providing structure.

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is still very fresh with almost no secondary development on the nose and revealing ripe cherry, earth and game aromas followed by exuberant, rich, sweet and persistent flavors. While this is not particularly dense, the precision and minerality make for aA delicious effort that possesses none of the shortcomings of the '97 vintage. " (02/2004)

Hold on to your chair… this is a killer Merlot! Sweet vanilla, plums, clove, orange peel, hints of menthol. A sexy, voluptuous and silky wine with sweet cherry fruit and a long lasting finish. Delectus is another fabulous but tiny Napa Valley producer (only 288 cases of this Merlot were made). They were recently featured in the Wine Spectator's 'Promising New Names Worth Watching' section, although they're not as new to the game as you might think from reading that article. Winemaker Gerhard Reisacher previously worked for seven years as enologist a...

Bid on this magnum of 1997 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (95VN, 94RP, 93WE, 93WS). Vinous: "Saturated ruby-red. Multidimensional nose offers a panoply of scents: black plum, currant, leather, smoked meat, cigar ash, lead pencil, sandalwood, dark chocolate, licorice, brown sugar. Very bright and sharply defined; flavors of plum, leather, hot stones and lead pencil. An impeccably balanced wine of compelling sweetness, but rather dominated today by its structure. Strong, thoroughly ripe tannins spread out to coat the entire palate. Very long and subtle. (ST)" (05/2000)

Bid on this bottle of 1997 Antinori "Solaia" Toscana (97JS, 97WE, 96RP, 96ST, 95VN, 92DC). Wine Enthusiast: "Top-echelon, with a stunning purity and depth of layered fruit both sensuous and intellectually appealing. The dark cherry and plum core is oak-enveloped with rarely seen seamlessness, while the big but supple mouthfeel belies the wine’s profound power and structure. A classic effort marked by perfect fruit-to-acid balance, firm, refined tannins and a seemingly endless finish. *Editor's Choice* " (09/2001)

Bid on this 7-bottle lot of 1997 Conn Creek "Anthology" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (93WS). Wine Spectator: "A delicious wine, long and detailed. Smooth, rich and spicy, it shows complex and concentrated currant, anise, cedar, tar and cherry flavors of good intensity and focus. (JL)" (03/2001)
Starting Bid: $210.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1997 Livio Sassetti "Pertimali" Brunello di Montalcino (96RP, 92ST, 92VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers should note that with the 1997 Brunello di Montalcino, the label has changed to emphasize the proprietor's name, Livio Sassetti, rather than the estate name, Pertimali. Always a top-notch Brunello, the 1997 is staggering in its aromatic fireworks and concentrated, long, intense flavors. Sumptuous aromas of dried Provencal herbs, roasted meats, soy, spice box, asphalt, truffles, and black fruits linger in the air. Flavors of new saddle leather are added to jammy black fruit characteristics. Opulently-textured, full-bodied, and gorgeously pure, this wine creates an olfactory overload. Mamma mia! (RP)" (10/2001)

Bid on this bottle of 1997 Gaja "Darmagi" Langhe Cabernet Sauvignon ((89-91ST), 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full deep ruby. Black raspberry, violet, mint, shoe polish and mineral aromas complicated by hints of game, smoke and herbs. Fat and rich, but can't match the '97 Barolos for sheer grip. And comes across as a bit less sweet-a bit greener-than the '98 and '99 versions of Darmagi. Seems slightly pinched on the back; perhaps it in an awkward stage today. (ST)" (11/2000)

Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 1997 La Jota "16th Anniversary" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (93RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The sensational black/purple-colored 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon 16th Anniversary Release is closed, but its emerging aromas of charcoal, blackberries, cassis, and minerals are promising. The wine is intense, ripe, with a layered, expansive richness, and exotic notes of Asian spices, beef blood, and assorted black fruits. (RP)" (01/2000)
Starting Bid: $290.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1997 Domaine des Perdrix (Antonin Rodet) Echézeaux Grand Cru (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium-colored 1997 Echezeaux has ethereal floral aromas. A feminine, silky-textured, well-defined, and elegant wine, it smile-inducing personality is sublimely flavored with violets and red berries. It possesses outstanding grip, balance, and structure. (PR)" (10/1999)
Starting Bid: $160.00

Bid on this bottle of 1997 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (90VN). Vinous: "The 1997 Pichon-Lalande is an off vintage that has held up extremely well for a wine now over two decades old. It has a lovely, mellow but quite generous bouquet of blackberry, briar, cedar and a subtle touch of mint. The palate is rounded on the entry and shows commendable depth. This is quite a voluminous wine, not nearly as complex as the 1996 yet bursting with savory red berry fruit mixed with leather and allspice. I agree with Nicolas Glumineau that it delivers a satisfying saline finish. This is drinking perfectly now, although larger formats may give many more years of pleasure. Tasted at a vertical tasting at the château. (NM)" (08/2019)

Bid on this 3L-bottle of 1997 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (3L) (98RP, 95WS, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 10,200 cases of the remarkable 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate. Opaque purple-colored with a dense, chewy, full-bodied personality, it displays abundant cassis, mineral, and earth notes. This brilliantly made, super-concentrated, pure, blockbuster possesses sweet tannin as well as a terrific finish. Having added additional weight since last year, this sumptuous, multilayered, profoundly concentrated Cabernet contains 14% alcohol. It is a candidate for 25-30 years of longevity. (RP)" (12/2000)
Starting Bid: $615.00

Bid on this bottle of 1997 Montrose, St-Estephe. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It demonstrated more fruit on the nose when compared directly from vintages originating in the early 1990s. It is not the most complex bouquet, yet it remains fresh and lively, with secondary aromas of cured Italian meats, melted tar and a touch of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. (NM)" (03/2017)
