90 points Vinous: "Deep, shimmering violet. Spice-accented cherry, blackberry and licorice scents are complemented by a hint of cracked pepper. Juicy and appealingly sweet, offering dark berry and cherry compote flavors that take on a floral nuance with aeration. Shows good energy and lift on the clinging finish, which features rounded tannins and a suggestion of bitter cherry. All stainless steel. (JR)" (02/2021) K&L Notes: Bodegas Torremorón is a small co-op located in the hamlet of Quintanamanvirgo. Located in the north-central part of Ribera del Du...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Mauro, from a very challenging year, feels like a real triumph over the conditions of the harvest, as they had some zones where they didn't have any frost. The wine feels complex and with moderate acidity. Furthermore, they now use 4,000-liter oak foudres for the élevage of part of the wine. This some tannins, and it has grip and balance, a chalky texture and a dry, serious finish. They did shorter macerations and managed to keep the freshness. (LG) 92+" (12/2019) K&L Notes: Bodegas Mauro was founded b...

92 points James Suckling: "A wild and brambly edge to the ripe dark fruit here. This has a very succulent and saturated palate with fine, attractive tannin, providing plenty of structure and good shape. Fresh and attractive. " (07/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The meatier 2018 Antídoto had some resemblances with a Northern Rhône Syrah: hints of smoked bacon and flowers, juicy and plummy, ripe without excess and quite showy. It had a little less alcohol than the 2017 and felt more balanced and round. It had fine, chalky tannins and a d...

2016 Ausàs "Interpretación" Ribera del Duero
Top Pick!
95 points Decanter: "An exceptional first vintage, from a winemaker who knows Ribera del Duero intimately and understands blending. Dark fruit, liquorice and blueberry aromatics, not in the least oaky. Elegant, pure and refined overall. Fine-grained tannin adds texture and interest, overlaid by black fruits and running through the palate is the keynote freshness of this producer's philosophy. ‘This wine is a keeper,’ says winemaker Xavier Ausás, ‘a minimum of 15 years.’ Drinking Window 2021 - 2031 (JE)" (02/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate...

Composed of Tempranillo from Pedrosa de Duero, and then aged in all French oak barrels (1/3 new, 1/3 one year-old, 1/3 two year-old), this Ribera shows dark cherry and red plum fruited aromas. Approachable now, it is also serious enough to age a while in your cellar. Pago de los Capellanes is one of the most consistent producers in all of Ribera del Duero. They always seem to make very good quality, fresh, nicely structured wine, with tasty fruit, bright acidity and well balanced oak. This is a very solid Ribera del Duero for the money.

2018 Dominio de Pingus "Flor de Pingus" Ribera del Duero
Back In Stock!
96 points Decanter: "In the shadow of Pingus? Only, perhaps, if you taste it after the grand vin, because Flor de Pingus is another haute-couture masterpiece in its own right, again with that highly polished tannic texture and layers of dark but succulent and perfectly ripe mulberry fruit, suggestions of something darker and savoury emerging, but for now this is just a gloriously sensual young wine with a pronounced sense of place. Biodynamic. (DW)" (01/2021) 94 points James Suckling: "A ripe, layered red with plum, black-cherry and some toasted oak. I...

96 points James Suckling: "A very savory and succulent Alion with so much complexity of flavor with berries, chocolate and dried meat. Some cedar, too. Full body. Vertical and very long. Purity of fruit and tannins to this wine." (09/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The highly anticipated 2016 Alión spent 12 months in oak barrels, 80% of them new and built mainly with French oak but with some 5% American oak, and some 10% of the volume matured in 15,000-liter concrete vats. It hits the scale at 15% alcohol and has moderate acidity, showi...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Cropped from a cooler year, the 2016 Garmón is fresher, cooler and juicier, with elegant and polished tannins. The process is similar every year, and the differences are mostly due to vintage variations, but in this vintage, they used a higher percentage of used barriques for the élevage (50/50 new and used). 2016 is fresher, more elegant and a little lighter. It has a medium to full body and some grainy tannins. Give it a little more time before you pull the cork. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June ...

2018 Bodegas Mauro Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León
New!
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Inky ruby. Primary, mineral-tinged black and blue fruits, potpourri, oak spices and woodsmoke on the highly perfumed nose. Sweet, deeply concentrated boysenberry, licorice and cherry cola flavors fan out steadily on the palate, picking up spiciness and a touch of candied flowers on the back half. Broad and youthfully chewy in texture. Finishes with excellent length and dusty tannins contributing shape and closing grip. (JS)" (02/2021) K&L Notes: Bodegas Mauro was founded by Mariano Garcia, the head winemaker at...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A glass-coating opaque purple color, it is already displaying a complex aromatic array of sandalwood, smoke, espresso, lavender, Asian spices, and assorted blue and black fruits. Smooth-textured, succulent, and structured, it will evolve for 2-3 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2028+. In the scheme of things, it offers great value in top-flight Ribera del Duero. Drink through 2028. (JM)" (05/2011) 90 points Vinous: "Bright purple. Pungent, intensely perfumed nose displays black and blue ...

99 points James Suckling: "This is still very tight and closed with so much depth and beauty. The linear line to this is very vertical and draws you down. It shows intense blackberry, dark-chocolate, hazelnut and walnut character. Full body. Chewy yet extremely polished. Precise. Shows decadence. So drinkable already, but better in 2022." (12/2019) 98 points Vinous: "Opaque violet. Intensely perfumed, expansive black and blue fruit preserve, potpourri, Moroccan spice and botanical herb scents are complemented by smoky mineral and vanilla flourishes. Sa...

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Vega Sicilia "Único" Ribera del Duero (95RP, 94W&S, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Having skipped over releasing a 2001 due to frost damage, the 2002 Unico is a result of a severe selection as attested by the label which shows that just 42,932 bottles were produced instead of 108,536 in 2000. It has an incredibly intense nose, much more linear and focused than the more flamboyant 2000, with scents of dark cherry, creme de cassis and a touch of honey and melted dark chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight grainy texture on the entry, a hint of cooked meat inflecting the layers of toasty dark berry fruit. It is very harmonious and perhaps at this juncture, edgier and grittier than the millennial Unico. It is less opulent and more structured than the 2000, but is a more cerebral wine. (NM)" (08/2012)
Starting Bid: $230.00

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (96RP, 94ST, 93DC, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Unico has a very pure, pastille-like bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry, crushed stone and a touch of Chinese tea. It has impressive delineation and linearity. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. The fruit profile is shimmering in the glass with black cherries, cassis and blueberry notes. It is very feminine and powerful towards the poised, tensile finish that is long and seductive. One of the finest recent vintages, suffused with sensuality and opulence, the 1996 Unico is destined to be a great wine, one that might unfairly be over-shadowed by the 1994. 99,480 bottles produced. Drink 2020-2040+. (NM)" (08/2012)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " The 1988 Viña Real Gran Reserva was nothing to write home about. Fermented exclusively in cement and from a vintage that produced 131 million liters of wine in Rioja, Viña Real was bottled in July 1993. It is very minty, definitively Atlantic, so true to the character of the year, with aromas of old furniture and a good attack, but lacking a bit in the mid palate, showing the shortcomings of the year. It becomes mintier in the glass." (04/2015)
