2005 Guiraud, Sauternes (Elsewhere $75)

97 points James Suckling: "This appears to be the synthesis of the fabulous 2001 and 2003. It shows wonderful aromas of botrytis spice, honey and citrus rind. Lots of fruit with a tropical fruit undertone of mango and papaya on the palate. Intense finish. Too excellent not to drink. " (07/2013) 97 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers lots of botrytis spice, with lemon tart and cooked apple. 2015 Haut Charmes, Sauternes (375ml)

Haut Charmes is a very special Sauternes bottling, made from the younger vines of one of the region's most legendary château. While we aren't allowed to actually reveal the source, it's safe to say its location in the Ciron Valley exposes the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fruit to conditions perfect for the development of botrytis. Charming, elegant and an exceptional value for what's in the bottle.

2015 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Following a very long harvest stretching nearly two months, the 2015 Château d'Yquem came in at 13.9% alcohol and 144 grams per liter of residual sugar, sporting a pH of 3.65 and six grams per liter of tartaric acid. None of these numbers, however, even remotely begin to tell you how profound this wine is. The nose opens with electric notes of ripe pineapples, green mango, orange blossoms and lemon tart with hints of fungi, lime zest, crushed rocks and jasmine. The freshness on the palate is just astonishing, permeating and lifting layer upon layer of tropical fruits and earthy notions, all encased in a sumptuous texture and culminating in a very, very long, mineral-tinged finish. Truly, this is a legendary vintage for d'Yquem. I've been conservative with my drinking window here (2025 - 2065), and I would not be at all surprised if our descendants

Lustau Dry Amontillado "Los Arcos" Solera Reserva

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The non-vintage Dry Amontillado Los Arcos Solera Reserva reveals a medium amber hue along with a nutty, honeyed, dry personality with great acid...The portfolio of under $25 a bottle selections represents remarkable value for their complex, well-made personalities. Lustau includes a bottling date code as purchasers would want to buy Finos and Manzanillas as young as possible. It is difficult to describe the glories of sherry, but I’ll try. Lustau Almacenista Oloroso "Pata de Gallina" (500ml)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Juan García Jarana, the motorcycle magnate of Jerez, sells a portion of his soleras to Lustau for this delicate Oloroso. It starts with notes of candied almonds, coconut palm syrup and caramel. The hint of salinity lends complexity and freshness, without diminishing that delicate, pleasing sweetness." (06/2009) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Just add this oloroso to the growing list of excellent Sherries from Lustau. Taylor 20 Year Old Tawny Port

94 points Wine & Spirits: "A complex and satisfying Tawny, this sits on the cusp of maturity with freshness continuing to infuse its deepening flavors. That freshness arrives in bold scents of orange zest and juicy citrus flavors, while the maturity mellows those flavors into layers of Marcona almond, date and sweet oak-smoke notes. It finishes with a hint of schist in the tannins. For fruit and cheese at the end of the meal." Producer Notes: "Deep mahogany colour with discreet olive highlights on the rim. Very fine, elegant nose, with an opulent core of wild honey, treacle and butterscotch infused with a spicy redolence of black pepper and cinnamon. Cedary cigar box aromas, savoury scents of wild herbs and a discreet aura of fresh mint add a further layer of complexity. Emilio Hidalgo "Gobernador" Oloroso Seco Jerez

It recalls the coasts of Jerez with aromas and flavors of iodine, salt and the signature earthy dampness of Hidalgo's very old soleras. Firm on the palate, with sharp acidity that penetrates the depths of the wine's flavors, this would be delicious with clams sautéed in olive oil and garlic." And that flavor lingers after each sip, too, like sea spray." (04/2005) Jancis Robinson: "Greenish pale. Very lively and bone dry. Good stuff! Easily the 10 with the most weight in the Fladgate group's lineup this issue, it is a rather powerful 10 year old Tawny with plenty of pop, the biggest and baddest of the trio (Fonseca, Croft and this). What is a white Tawny Port? Good question. Produced from white grapes grown in the Douro, this beautiful Tawny is elaborated over time in wood barrels in a similar way to traditional Tawnies. However, the similarity stops there, as this unique product actually averages 15 years of age (it just does not state so because 15 year-old Tawny is not a recognized category). 2017 Doisy-Daëne, Sauternes (375ml) (Pre-Arrival)

93-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Château Doisy Daëne is a seriously decadent, thick, opulent beauty that packs serious sweetness in its canned peach, lime peel, and exotic tropical fruit aromas and flavors. While it’s a big wine, it has terrific balance, good density and concentration, and a huge finish. It’s a potential blockbuster Barsac that’s going to have a long life." (04/2018) 93-96 points Vinous: "A wine of real density and weight, the 2017 Doisy-Daëne is positively stunning. It is also likely to require a number of years to be at its best, ...Read More »

Quinta do Noval Black Port

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Black cuvée comes half from estate vineyards (the rest is sourced from the Cima Corgo region in the Douro Valley) and is aged two years in larger oak and stainless-steel vats. At 20 bucks, it’s a terrific, forward, sexy Port offering lots of currants, raisins, candied olives, and dried herb aromas and flavors. It’s worth buying." (03/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "'Black' is a new blend produced from classic varieties that do not make it into the Quinta do Noval vintage. There are ripe blackberries, tar, ...Read More »

Rare Wine Company Historic Series "New York" Malmsey Madeira

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The sweetest and richest in the Historic series, the New York Malmsey unfolds slowly in the glass, gradually revealing layers of depth and flavor. Coffee, toffee and date notes emerge, followed by earthy, almost truffley flavors. Powerful and assertive on the long finish. *Editors' Choice* (JC)" (11/2006) 92 points John Gilman: "The Rare Wine Company’s New York Malmsey is a bit darker in color than the Boston Bual, and carries closer to five percent residual sugar. The wine is quite a bit deeper-pitched aromatically than th ...Read More »

Cossart Gordon 5 Year Old Bual Madeira

Wine Spectator: "Smooth and lush, with loads of glazed apricot, maple, vanilla and cream flavors. Fresh, focused finish. (KM)" (11/2006) K&L Notes: Cossart Gordon 5 year old Bual underwent fermentation off the skins with natural yeast at between 65°F-70°F in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After approximately 3 days, fortification with grape brandy takes place, which arrests the fermentation at the desired degree of sweetness. Producer note: "Clear, amber colour with tinges of gold; a bouquet of dried fruit, vanilla, wood and toffee with ...Read More »
