Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of exotic tropical fruits, pineapple, flowers, and honeyed orange notes emerge from the 2019 Chardonnay Sonoma County. It’s a medium-bodied, nicely textured, fruit-froward Chardonnay to enjoy in its youth." (01/2021)
Price: $15.95

Monica Larner writes: "This winery was founded in the 1960s by a dentist named Piero Mancini who had a deep passion for wine. The estate grew over the next two decades to its current 70-hectare size. It has vineyards that look towards the Olbia Gulf in the Gallura district in northern Sardinia. Today, the winery is run by Piero's wife Marisa and their children Laura, Antonio and Alessandro."

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous 2019 Zárate is their entry-level Albariño, a vintage with structure and acidity, still very young, a powerful vintage with more of everything and probably a long-distance runner. It's varietal and clean, characterful, powerful and with a long, tasty finish, vibrant and almost salty. 64,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2020. (LG)" (06/2020)

Vinous: "The 2019 Secateurs, Badenhorst’s super-successful entry-level label, comes from 26 Swartland vineyards and is matured in a combination of concrete and foudres. The nose grabs you by the olfactory senses with pineapple, saffron and tangerine aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, nice focus and good weight on the simple but crisp lime and pineapple finish. Delicious and a great value to boot. (NM)" (11/2019) Wine Spectator: "A floral version, with daisy and dandelion notes around the core of nectarine flavors. This is ...

91 points Vinous: "Limpid yellow-gold. Vibrant aromas of fresh pear, nectarine and pink grapefruit are complemented by building floral and honey flourishes. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering sappy orchard and pit fruit flavors that are given a refreshingly bitter edge by a frisson of citrus pith. The floral nuance comes back strong on a long, gently spicy finish that leaves white peach and pear nectar notes behind. (JR)" (10/2020) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "Pétulant naturel is Birichino's querulous answer to how to produce a complex and d...

Typically when you think Sancerre, you think crisp and chalky white wine. But the region also produces phenomenal Pinot Noir. One of the aspects of Sancerre that makes for great Sauvignon Blanc is the limestone and flint soils, which lend depth of minerality and gorgeous aromatics. These same soil characteristics also make for incredible Pinot Noir with plenty of depth and personality. One of our best new-direct import producers in Sancerre, Aurore Dezat, makes just such a wine. If you love silky, round Pinot Noir with gorgeous dark cherry notes and laye...

It isn't often that a winery's SRP, or "suggested retail price," is about the same as the great prices that we can offer, or in the case of bigger brands, elsewhere in the retail market. Often, they're a good $5 higher at the winery. But Husch lists their 2018 Sauvignon Blanc for just $15. That's just the kind of winery they are. Still family-owned in Mendocino's Anderson Valley, Husch has been producing Sauvignon Blanc since 1980. They source this wine from their partners down the hill in between Ukiah and Hopland. Although here it's not called the Russ...

94 points James Suckling: " A medium-bodied red with aromas of stewed and dried strawberries, grapefruit zest, dried herbs, five spice and ash. More juicy red berries, citrus peel and herbal notes on the palate, framed by medium, silky tannins. Better from 2022, but already a joy to taste. " (12/2020)

2019 Courtney Benham Oak Knoll Napa Valley Chardonnay (Elsewhere $21+) (Elsewhere $21+)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A fresh, linear chardonnay with sliced ripe apples, honey, and some nougat and pralines. Medium to full body, pretty acidity, and a fruity finish. Stone and creamy intensity to this. Even some peaches. Drink now." (01/2021)

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly has also turned out nicely, displaying aromas of pear, fresh bread, confit lemon and nutmeg, framed by a promising—at this stage in its élevage—touch of reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's ample and elegantly textural, but built around a lovely spine of acidity, concluding with a lively finish. Damien Colin reported that his yields were some 30% below average and that the crop ripened rapidly, "even very rapidly." Indeed, having projected a Septe...

2019 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points Decanter: "Very full-bodied with a lovely sweetness to the fruit, fine tannins and great freshness. Really shot through with juicy, sweet, chocolatey tannins and great concentration. Very well balanced however, not heavy or aggressive with a stony minerality on the finish. The most impressive barrel sample of Vieux Donjon I've ever tasted, this is profound stuff. This traditional estate owns 18ha of Châteauneuf, with considerable plantings of old-vine Grenache. Fermented in concrete vats, then aged in concrete and old foudres. (MW)" (10/2020) ...

93 points Sam Kim: "It’s intensely aromatic on the nose showing passionfruit, feijoa, Granny Smith apple and lemon peel characters. The palate delivers excellent fruit power and persistency backed by refreshing acidity, making it delectable and highly enjoyable." (07/2020)
Price: $10.99

This is a delicious, clean and fresh, forward style of Rioja, packed in a 3-liter bag-in-box for maximum value. The bag-in-box, long a popular format in Europe, has finally started to catch on in the United States. And with good reason, as it allows you to open a box and enjoy its contents for days, even weeks, with no drop off in flavor. For the equivalent of $6.25 per bottle, this is one red value that you do not want to miss!

Jolie-Laide is a one-man operation based in a Sebastopol winery where winemaker Scott Schultz makes only 2,500 cases of wine a year under his own label. The name Jolie-Laide translates loosely to “Pretty-Ugly”, a French term of endearment to describe something that is unconventionally beautiful. Scott’s passion for wine was ignited when moved to Napa from Chicago in 2007. Having had extensive experience in the restaurant business, he switched gears upon his arrival in California to lead the wine program at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon. Working a harvest and a...

2019 Bodega Chacra "Cincuenta y Cinco" Pinot Noir Rio Negro Patagonia
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "The blue-fruit character is impressive with intense, violet and floral character, which turns redder with earthier notes. Full-bodied, tight and very chewy, yet the tannins spread across the palate, releasing pure, seductive fruit and tense, bright acidity." (02/2020) K&L Notes: Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, the grandson of Sassicaia founder Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, ended up in Patagonia after tasting a bottle of Pinot Noir he fell in love with, and was told came from old vines in Patagonia. This wine comes from 60 year-...

92 points James Suckling: "Crushed-strawberry, cherry, lemon-zest, button-mushroom and cedar aromas. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins and bright acidity. Bright, pure-fruit layers lead to an energetic finish." (02/2021) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2019 Pinot Noir Olema rolls easily out of the glass with notes of raspberry pie, warm cranberries and pomegranate plus hints of roses and Darjeeling tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy red fruit flavors and floral sparks, offering a plush textur...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 27% new. It delivers vibrant notes of black cherries, kirsch and mulberries with suggestions of garrigue and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of ripe, juicy black and red berry flavors, supported by soft tannins, finishing with a lively red berry kick. (LPB)" (01/2021)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Mouthwatering, fragrant, intense and stylish, this white bursts with Key lime, passion fruit and mango flavors. 2019 Domaine Gérard Tremblay Petit Chablis
Top Pick!
Always a forerunner and fueled with commitment to the quality of their wines, the Tremblay family produces very distinctive wines with character and finesse. This wine sings from the glass with notes of wet stone, iodine, sea breeze, and citrus. Surprising depth and structure make this a wonderful wine to pair with crab, seafood, or roast chicken. This gives great insight into the quality of Petit Chablis. Winery note: "Dry, limpid, lively and light, with primary aromas. it is a premier wine par excellence. Consume young."

2019 Te Mata "Cape Crest" Sauvignon Blanc Hawke's Bay

Attractively textural sauvignon blanc with oyster-shell, mineral, grapefruit, and nectarine flavours. An exquisite, mouth-puckering wine with cellaring potential" (02/2021) 93 points James Suckling: "A complex and composed, barrel-fermented style that has wide-ranging aromas, from dried flowers through citrus and tropical fruit to fresh almond. The palate has very elegant, long and intense style wit...

Winemaker's Notes: "The wine is sourced from the Bartolomei Brothers vineyard just outside of Ukiah in Mendocino County. The vineyard is 80-years-old and the Carignane vines are head trained and nestled up against the bench of the eastern Ukiah Valley. The 2019 vintage was the second year in a row of moderate and even ripening for our Carignane. We let the grapes hang a bit later in this vintage and were able to capture more flavor intensity in the finished wine. And thanks to Carignane's great natural acidity the wine remains vibrant and fresh."

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a consistently beautiful and beguiling white wine, a blend of Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Chardonnay, the latter from Hyde Vineyards. Structured, mineral-driven and explosive in flavors of lemon zest, green apple and wet stone, it is a wine well worth stocking. *Editors’ Choice* (VB)" (07/2020) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A savory thread of saline and beeswax stays in the background of this fleshy white, with refreshing pear, white peach, yellow apple and melon flavors. Notes of dried ginger emerge on the finis...

2019 La Graside Blanc, Bordeaux
Top Pick!
Another of the fine wines of Dominique Robin, Le Blanc de la Graside is sourced from a vineyard three miles south of Libourne that is planted with 60-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines. Grapes are harvested at full maturity and aged in casks to round out the wine's generous profile, while it retains a mineral-driven finish. Superb buy.

92 points Wine & Spirits: "East of the Cape, Robertson is a town in the Breede River Valley where this chenin ripened to juicy honeydew melon and spiced pear flavors. There’s a line of lemony acidity to highlight the fruit sweetness, a match for turkey and stuffing with raisins. " (02/2020)
Price: $11.99

93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An elegant, ripe and cool nose offers up notes of black cherry, plum, spice, violet and a hint of lavender. There is a highly refined mouthfeel to the energetic and intense medium weight flavors that possess a silky mid-palate while displaying outstanding depth and length on the markedly firm and well-balanced finale. This is quite simply terrific and definitely recommended though note well that patience will be required. *Burghound Don't Miss Outstanding!*" (01/2021) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 ALLO (the "AL" being 30% Alvarinho, the "LO" referencing 70% Loureiro) is dry and comes in at 11.5% alcohol. This is a blend that relies on a classic vision of Loureiro for its personality and style. It has the slight delicacy of expressive Loureiro, and it dances brightly and lightly across the tongue. It is clean and transparent. Fresh and pure, this is a well-priced blend that excels again this year. In fact, the next day it fleshed out and opened up. It seemed more substantial then and still elegant....

Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from twelve hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, stainless steel for others. The wines have long been customer favorites at K&L with their clean and fresh style, and their affordable price tags. With citrus and stone fruit profiles, zippy acidity, and a minerality that comes from their humble terroir, we think Renaud is one of the best entry-level Burgundy estates we carry at K&L.

2019 Clos de l'Anhel "Lolo de l'Anhel" Corbières
Top Pick!
"My name is Sophie Guiraudon and I am a winemaker since ZERO generation!", says Sophie proudly. Sophie was working in other peoples' wineries in southern France for years. In 2000, Sophie started her own bio-dynamic, organic winery. She wanted to grow grapes that her son could eat right off of the vines. The "Lolo de l'Anhel" is typically a blend of 81% of Carignan, 10% of Syrah, 7% of Grenache Noir, and 2% Mourvèdre. The grapes are hand picked, gently vacuum pressed, and finished with 100% tank aging.

2019 Tablas Creek "Patelin de Tablas Blanc" Paso Robles White Rhône Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Tradition is another fantastic value wine that matches the simple versatility of the grape with the cool and crisp personality of the Italian Dolomites. The wine pours from the bottle with pretty luminosity, and the bouquet presents classic aromas of pear, melon, apple and almond. There's a fun touch of saffron, dried mint and crushed oyster shell that adds an extra layer of dimension and depth. (ML)" (09/2020)

The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things, oysters and this wine of origin Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul we ask each other if it "pics your poul?" We want to know if it has the vibrancy and minerality that are the hallmarks of the region. That brings us to the Montmassot, which is produced at the local cooperative in the village of Florensac. It is s...

Connoisseurs Guide: "Pine Ridge’s winning white-blend recipe for Chenin Blanc and Viognier is on full display again in 2019, and, as in the past, the latest is an insistently fruity, lightly sweet wine whose buoyant, mildly melony traits are graced by touches of honey and flowers. It will be equally appealing as a warm-weather refresher when sipped on its own or as a sidekick to the likes of cracked crab, and it continues to claim a prominent place on our list of very good white wine values. *Good Value*" (09/2020) Wine Enthusiast: "This medium-bodied ...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Light raspberry, delicate cotton candy, brisk melon and a hint of citrus show on the nose of this pale rosé. (03/2020) 92 points Bob Campbell: "Slightly softer with more restrained acidity than usual but attractive estery, bubble gum, passionfruit and melon flavours. A youthful wine that needs a few months to settle down." (04/2020) 92 points James Suckling:...

Slightly sweet, slightly sparkling and some skin contact with the grapes makes for one of the most incredibly unique wines from Greece we have ever tasted. This sits on the verge of natural wine meets sparkling cider meets sour beers. There's really no way to put into words how fun this is. You kind of have to try it and see.
