It isn't often that a winery's SRP, or "suggested retail price," is about the same as the great prices that we can offer, or in the case of bigger brands, elsewhere in the retail market. Often, they're a good $5 higher at the winery. But Husch lists their 2018 Sauvignon Blanc for just $15. That's just the kind of winery they are. Still family-owned in Mendocino's Anderson Valley, Husch has been producing Sauvignon Blanc since 1980. They source this wine from their partners down the hill in between Ukiah and Hopland. Although here it's not called the Russ...

Winemaker's Notes: "The wine is sourced from the Bartolomei Brothers vineyard just outside of Ukiah in Mendocino County. The vineyard is 80-years-old and the Carignane vines are head trained and nestled up against the bench of the eastern Ukiah Valley. The 2019 vintage was the second year in a row of moderate and even ripening for our Carignane. We let the grapes hang a bit later in this vintage and were able to capture more flavor intensity in the finished wine. And thanks to Carignane's great natural acidity the wine remains vibrant and fresh."

Winemaker's Notes: "Alder Springs Vineyard is known for producing exceptional fruit, specifically focusing on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Rhone red and white varietals on its 6,000 acre ranch (only about 140 acres are planted) in Northern Mendocino, just 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean and ranging from 1,700 to 2,700 feet of elevation. The Trousseau yield varies greatly due to being a favorite of the local bear population. In 2019, we got a whopping 1.33 tons. It had been our desire to make this wine using carbonic fermentation and this year we ha...

This wine comes from a vineyard located in the Southern-eastern hills near the city of Ukiah. Planted in the mid-1970s on a gentle slope in Pinole gravelly loam soils, the old Chenin Blanc vines yield tiny, beautifully concentrated berries - thus the name Peaberry. According to the winery, the grapes were picked on September 19th at 20.3 Brix. The grapes were whole - cluster pressed to tank for cold settling. Then juice was racked to neutral French oak and Acacia barrels for fermentation using spontaneous yeast. The wine was aged for five months and comp...

Winemaker's Notes: "Blend: 54% Zinfandel, 37% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah, 3% Pinot Noir, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon . Most of the grapes underwent carbonic maceration, the classic fermentation method of the Beaujolais, which means that fermentation happened inside of berries themselves, causing them to explode in happy, boozy ecstasy. That’s how you’ll feel when you drink this wine - it dances in your mouth. It is great, you will love it! To make this wine we assembled 29 small lots that had been vinified separately. After 5-9 days, depending on the lot, w...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This crisp, dry and toasty wine boasts bold, freshly baked bread aromas and lemon and butter flavors on a lively texture of tiny bubbles and brilliant acidity. It’s a fun, bracing twist on tradition. *Editors’ Choice* (JG)" (04/2021) K&L Notes: Josh Raynolds writes: "Tracey and Jared Brandt’s wines are nothing if not intriguing and, as I have noted before, they wear their raw wine credentials with honor without veering too far off into Funky Town, much less Funky Town’s red light district. These are hard wines to describe, f...
