2017 Jean-Michel Dupre "1935" Morgon
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vines that are more than 80 years old are rare even in Beaujolais, which has many longstanding vineyards. This wine shows firm concentration and ripe tannins that are balanced by fresh acidity and black-currant flavors. (RV)" (03/2019)

94 points James Suckling: "Some very stony and flinty aromas with graphite. Red and dark plums, too. Smells fresh and very complex already. The palate has great density and a fine, compressed tannin texture, as well as a very focused finish. Spiced black cherries and blackberries, cassis and dark chocolate to close. Short carbonic maceration and juice is racked off during the carbonic process. A captivatingly powerful but focused Morgon. No Côte du Puy due to the hail in 2017. Best from 2020. " (02/2018) 93 points Vinous: "Shimmering violet color. Spic...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Morgon is a cuvée that's not imported to the USA, but it's a fine wine, bursting with aromas of juicy cherries, spices and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with melting tannins, succulent acids and a ripe core of fruit. This is a charming Morgon that's already drinking well. (WK)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: Neal Martin writes the following of Jean Foillard's wines: "...these are extremely well crafted, low-intervention wines using minimal SO2, used barrels and no fi...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Named after the amethyst crystal that lies as a layer in the soil of the vineyard, this is a tightly structured wine. Rich tannins and black fruits are brought into relief by the young, tight acidity. Age at least until the end of 2019. (RV)" (03/2019)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of sweet cassis, cherries and plums mingle with sapid nuances of smoke and soil in a complex bouquet, introducing the 2017 Morgon Antique, a medium-bodied, supple and succulent wine that's charming and accessible.(WK)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujoalis who we met on our recent trip to the region. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable.

2017 Domaine du Vissoux (Pierre-Marie Chermette) Moulin-à-Vent "Les Trois Roches"
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "A super expressive, exultant nose with attractive, ripe strawberries, wild cherries and raspberries on offer. The palate has wildly attractive fruit presence with a very impressive air of purity and focus. Great length and detail here. Great wine. Drink or hold." (01/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Les Trois Roches is superb—and likely the king of the cellar chez Chermette this year—wafting from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of raspberries, potpourri, orange rind and rose petal. On ...

92 points Vinous: "Lurid violet. Smoke- and spice-accented black raspberry and violet aromas are complemented by zesty minerals. Juicy red/dark berry flavors show very good depth and sharp delineation. Floral pastille and licorice nuances emerge with aeration and carry through the impressively persistent finish, which features easygoing tannins and resonating floral and mineral character. Here's a Beaujolais-Villages that could easily stand alongside many, if not most, Cru wines in this vintage. (JR)" (10/2019)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm and structured, this rich wine also has considerable tannins. Its solid structure, touches of minerality and youthful acidity all point to a wine in need of aging. (RV)" (03/2019) 90 points Vinous: "Vivid ruby. Spice-accented black/blue fruits on the nose, along with a suggestion of licorice and a smoky mineral element. Ripe boysenberry, bitter cherry and dark chocolate flavors show good depth and a late spicy flourish. Sappy and focused on the penetrating, youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a suggestion of succulen...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Morgon Eponym—which derives from the lieu-dit Charmes—wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, violets and rose petals. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a layered core, succulent acids and melting tannins. Open-knit and giving, this is a charming Eponym that's a touch more generous and sun-kissed than the 2016 rendition. (WK)" (08/2019) 93 points Vinous: "Deep magenta. Black raspberry, cherry, violet, licorice and a hint of musky earth on the deeply...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Patenôtre opted to destem 80% of the crop this year due to hail damage, and the resulting 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is a great success, unfurling in the glass with a charming bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, dried flowers and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it’s supple, delicate and giving on the palate, with melting tannins and a fragrant finish. It’s a great success in a challenging year, and it will drink well on release. (WK)" (09/2018) 90 points Wine Spectator: "This light-bodied red shows p...

93 points James Suckling: "A very ripe and plush wine that has rich raspberries and a touch of red flowers on the nose. The palate has a seriously juicy array of quite powerful, defined tannins. " (01/2019)

93 points John Gilman: "did not know until last year (or had known and forgotten) that the climat of les Garants is down in the valley near Moulin-à-Vent and Clos de la Roilette and used to be sold as Moulin-à-Vent in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The wine is deeper and even more black fruity in personality than the Poncié in 2017, offering up a pure and sappy nose of black cherries, sweet dark berries, dark soil tones, roasted pigeon, a touch of coffee bean and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and complex, with a ful...

2017 Antoine Sunier Régnié
93 points James Suckling: "Very fresh and fragrant with roses and lighter red berries, which sit amid a bright, plush and easygoing palate. Lots to like here now." (01/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rich aromas of cassis, plums, dark chocolate and loamy soil introduce the 2017 Régnié from Antoine Sunier. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, savory and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit and youthfully chewy tannins. (WK)" (09/2018) 91 points Vinous: "Bright violet. Intense aromas of raspberry liqueur, candied flowers and su...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Fleurie Poncié hails from a southeast-facing, higher-altitude site that’s typically quite cool, and that’s reflected in its bright, perfumed bouquet of raspberries, rose petals and Griotte cherries, with suggestions of darker fruits emerging with air. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and nicely concentrated, with fine tannins, a bright line of acidity and good length on the finish. (WK)" (09/2018) 92 points Vinous: "Bright magenta. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red/dark berries, ...

92 points Vinous: "Deep, shimmering ruby. Ripe cherry, blue fruit, earth and floral aromas show very good energy and take on a spicy accent that gains strength with air. Juicy and concentrated in the mouth, offering powerful boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors and a sweetening hint of candied violet. Closes supple, broad and quite long, with youthful tannins framing lingering dark fruit and lavender notes. (JR)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: David Schildknecht writes: "The irreplaceable and virtually irrepressible Marcel Lapierre succumbed to unrelenting mela...

92 points James Suckling: " Shows berries and hints of fresh herbs. Wet earth, too. Medium-bodied, linear and tight. A solid 2017, despite problems with hail in July. Drink now." (01/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Moulin-à-Vent wafts from the glass with a beautiful and incipiently complex bouquet of cherries, raspberries, candied peel and warm spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and pure, framed by velvety tannins and succulent acids and concludes with a sapid, subtly oak-inflected finish. (WK)" (04/2019) ...

93 points James Suckling: "Gorgeous aromas of blackberries, licorice and tree bark. Forest-floor fruit. Medium to full body and firm, chewy tannins. Flavorful finish. Has punch to it. " (01/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, mulberries and warm spices preface the 2017 Morgon Côte du Py, a deep, full-bodied wine with superb concentration, succulent acids and a richly extracted chassis of powdery tannin that asserts itself on the youthfully chewy finish. This is a Morgon built for the cellar and emphati...

92 points James Suckling: "Very fine, yet deep in the mouth with medium body and pretty density. Bark and wet earth color the spice and berry flavors. Fresh and polished finish. Drink now or hold." (01/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine built for the cellar, the 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès unfurls in the glass with a rich bouquet of ripe berry fruit, spices, candied peel and dark chocolate. On the plate, it's full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with an ample core of fruit, ripe acids and a chewy chassis of tannin that will ...

About the producer: "When he isn’t running the wine program at The Heathman, James operates a small and growing winery specializing in single-vineyard wines with minimal manipulation through SE Wine Collective in Portland. James’ inspiration behind wine making stemmed from the realization that although he loved introducing wines to his diners as a sommelier, he wanted to be 'the guy who actually put the juice in the bottle.'"
