2017 Hartford Court Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A crazy good value, the 2017 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is the appellation release from this team, and it comes from all of the estate vineyards across the Green Valley, Laguna Ridge, and Sebastopol regions. Complex notes of strawberries, cranberries, violets, pine forest, and flowers all flow to a medium-bodied Pinot Noir that has a kiss of salinity and marine notes, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This beautiful wine competes with wines costing 2-3 times the price. Maturity: 2019-2027" (06/2019)

2017 Liparita Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $60) (Previously $60)
Top Pick!
The historic Liparita label traces its origin all the way back to the late 1800s. The founder, William Keyes, was an early pioneer in the history of California winemaking, having been among the first to designate an appellation wine with his Howell Mountain Claret. Unfortunately, the combination of Prohibition and then phylloxera took its toll on many wineries early on, including Liparita. The label was revived several times over the past century, but it was Napa Valley grower Spencer Hoopes who finally resurrected the historic name in 2006 by bringing L...

2017 Fossil Point Edna Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
From the producer: "In the Edna Valley, on California’s Central Coast, our vines are never far from the influence of the sea. Sunny afternoons yield daily to brisk marine breezes, and the growing season is directly shaped by the seasonal flow of the currents and surface temperature of the nearby Pacific Ocean. Even our soils of calcareous shale and coarse sand were uplifted from the ancient ocean floor and weathered into place over the millennia. Fossil Point pays tribute to this bond between sea and vine. Located less than five miles due west of our wi...

2017 Turnbull Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
93 points Vinous: "Turnbull's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is absolutely gorgeous. Ripe, bold and plummy, with bright floral overtones and succulent red berry and plum fruit, the 2017 is a positively stellar wine. Best of all, it is a screaming value by the standards of Napa Valley Cabernet. Is there a better Napa Valley Cabernet made from estate fruit for $50 a bottle? I doubt it. (AG)" (01/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep purple-black colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon gives up notes of baked plums, black currant pastilles and dr...

2017 Kongsgaard Napa Valley Chardonnay
New!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Chardonnay slips sensuously out of the glass with beguiling notions of crème brulee, orange blossoms and lemon curd over a core of apricot tart and pineapple upside down cake plus a waft of marzipan. The full-bodied palate is stacked with exotic fruit and citrus layers, structured by a satiny texture and bold freshness, finishing very, very long. Wow! 96+ (LPB)" (11/2019) 94 points Vinous: " The 2017 Chardonnay is a classic Kongsgaard Chardonnay. Rich and viscous in the glass with tremendous structure,...

2017 Kalinda Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
We'd love to tell you all about the storied estate from which we sourced this superb, classic example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, but we can't. For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. That being said, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that wine from this...

2017 Anthill Farms Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
92 points Vinous: "The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a gorgeous wine that captures all the best of the Anthill Farms style. Pliant and generous, with tons of bright and saline energy, the 2017 is a wonderfully complete wine. Freshly cut flowers, chalk, mint and white pepper give the 2017 its striking freshness and nuance. This is such a pretty wine in its peer group. In a word: superb. (AG)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "This appellation is widely described as "sprawling" as it encompasses half or more of the county. Our fruit comes fro...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sommelier-turned-winemaker Chris Miller is acutely aware of value in the Pinot Noir market, and this is a new leader in that category. Bing cherry, roasted pork and pepper show on the nose, while the palate packs tangy pomegranate with bay leaf, juniper and wild sage. *Editor's Choice* (MK)" (10/2019)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley was sourced from sites Emerson Brown has worked with for a number of years, coming primarily from bench and valley floor vineyard blocks located in Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena. It was aged in French oak, 40% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, notes of baked black cherries, preserved blackberries and warm cassis come bounding out of the glass with touches of camphor, forest floor and Provence herbs. Full-bodied, the palate has a s...

2017 Banshee Sonoma County Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
Vinous: "The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) is lovely and also a terrific value. Bright red-toned fruit and floral notes give the Sonoma County Pinot much of its considerable appeal. This is such a gorgeous wine in its peer group. (AG)" (05/2019)

Gold Medal and 92 points, 2019 Press Democrat North Coast Wine Competition. Winery's note: "Designed for those of us who love depth and complexity. We start with a base of briary, juicy Zinfandel and layer in depth from complementary varieties including tangy Carignane, floral Malbec, and meaty Syrah. To harness all the volume and tame the power we age in French oak, which imparts robust vanilla, amber honey, and roasted hazelnut flavors as well as a velvety mouthfeel. The dark cherry/mahogany red color is indicative of the luscious palate structure whi...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dried fruit aromas, deep flavors, full body and moderate tannins add up to a robust, berry-drenched wine that packs a big punch. Blackberries, dried figs and light spicy accents fill out the palate and linger a bit on the finish. (JG)" (08/2019) Wine Spectator: "Jammy and a touch sweet, with zesty black raspberry, sage and green peppercorn notes. Drink now. 2017 DuMol "Wester Reach" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Incredibly aromatic and complex, the 2017 Pinot Noir Wester Reach offers loads of spiced red fruits, incense, wood smoke, and forest floor notes as well as a medium-bodied, fresh, focused, yet still pleasure bent style. It's a classic DuMol Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 5-7 years. This cuvée comes all from the Russian River Valley, from multiple clones, and spent a year in 40% new French oak." 2017 Lúuma (AKA Wine Co.) Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Top Pick!
A very fresh, bright, floral, crisp Chard, perfect for summer sipping. Nice weight and richness on the palete but with zesty acidity and mineral tones. Very minimal oak influence here. From the winery: "Leon and Shirley Sobon founded Shenandoah Vineyards in 1977. They were one of the first four wineries in Amador County's now well known Shenandoah Valley appellation. From the first offering of 1,200 cases, the winery has continued to thrive, adjusting the portfolio of wines over the years. It is now producing about 25,000 cases per year. Demand continues to grow as a result of skilled winemaking, marketing, and strong family commitments to quality and service. Today, we continue to use estate grown grapes from our sustainably-farmed vi...

The K&L Kalinda wines are consistently among the best values in our store. We work closely with top producers to bring you first-rate wine at reasonable prices. We can't reveal our sources, but we can say that this is a steal. Certainly not a household name, Lime Kiln Valley is situated in San Benito County and was granted AVA status in 1982 (the same year as nearby Chalone), and before Calera's Mt. Harlan AVA (1990) which Lime Kiln Valley borders. These unorthodox Pinot Noir terroirs are understood to be successful because of their limestone subsoils. T...

2017 Seghesio Sonoma County Zinfandel
Top Pick!
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is an impressive appellation wine, blended with smaller percentages of Petite Sirah, Carignan, Syrah and mixed reds. Aged in both American and French oak, it is earthy, thick and brawny in leather, tobacco and coffee. Black baked fruit completes the picture, finishing in dust. (VB)" (06/2019) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Plump and supple, with soft raspberry, toasted spice and licorice flavors that glide along a silky finish. 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Mountain Cuvée is a blend of 74% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, aged eight months in 15% new French oak. Medium ruby-purple in color, it gives scents of chocolate-covered cherries, cedar, warm plum, blackcurrants and dried herbs with touches of cardamom and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with good flavor intensity and a soft structuring frame, finishing long and with just enough freshness." (12/2019) K&L Notes: From the winery: "Varietal Compositio...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Light ruby-colored, the 2017 Pinot Noir Seafarer was mostly destemmed and spent 11 months in 30% new French oak. It offers a beautiful bouquet of black raspberries, spring flowers, and spice. This carries to a medium-bodied, ethereal, elegant Pinot Noir that has no hard edges, nicely integrated acidity, and beautiful overall balance." (10/2019)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pale ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, aged in 50% new French oak, offers bright aromas of cranberry sauce, Bing cherries, rhubarb and pomegranate with notes of dried leaves, cinnamon stick, citrus peel and potpourri. The palate is light-bodied with bright, crunchy fruits, a soft frame and super juicy freshness on the finish. Drink through 2024. (EB)" (12/2019) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a well-made and impressive appellation wine, combining bright fresh notions of orange peel and red current wit...

94 points James Suckling: "This has attractive aromas of fresh red cherries and berries with such interestingly perfumed red berries. The palate has a sleek and succulently appealing style with a very smoothly rendered texture. Precise and full of interest." (12/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert was made with 100% whole cluster. Pale to medium ruby-purple, the nose offers boysenberry, blackberries, crushed red cherries, smoky charcuterie notes and spicy cranberry sauce scents plus touches of forest flo...

92 points James Suckling: "A rich and ripe chardonnay with layered and complex, savory aromas of biscuit and light toffee. The palate has impressive fruit richness and a vibrant, lemon-cream core, as well as peach custard. Good texture and balance here. " (09/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Chardonnay has soft notes of white peach, Meyer lemon and baker’s yeast with notes of hay, hazelnut and spring blossoms. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2017 Zinfandel Old Vines features exotic spice accents over a core of blueberry and boysenberry compote, crushed black cherries and berries with notes of cinnamon stick and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, it has loads of spicy black and blue fruits in the mouth with firm, ripe tannins to frame and juicy acidity, finishing long and very spicy. From one of Clyde's old friends, and from certified organic vineyards in the Redwood Valley AVA of Mendocino County, the Chance Creek Sauvignon Blanc is an intense expression of terroir. Grown in the rocky benchlands of Mendocino County with southwest exposure, this bottling incorporates 4% Viognier to endow the wine with an added spicy allure. It was aged in 2% new French oak before bottling. The Chance Creek vineyard site, originally planted to Palomino grapes used in the production of California sherry, was purchased by Lou Bock in 1979. 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a sharply mineral focus to the nose of this bottling, which shows aromas of wet gravel alongside lemon peel, lemon blossoms and a touch of ripe nectarine. 2017 Wheeler Farms Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Elsewhere $38) (Elsewhere $38)

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I loved the 2017 Vertigo from barrel, and it didn’t disappoint from bottle. A blend of 63% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre, and the rest Grenache and Petite Sirah, brought up in 65% new French oak, this full-bodied, massively endowed 2017 has complex notes of blue fruits, blood orange, violets, and exotic spices. As with all Eric’s 2017s, it’s rich and concentrated yet has remarkable purity and elegance at the same time." (10/2019)

92 points James Suckling: "Plenty of red fruit with dried strawberries, as well as decadent meat and hints of earth. Medium body and firm, silky tannins that melt into the wine. Fresh finish. Vivid pinot. Drink now." (05/2019) Connoisseurs Guide: "Sweet and spicy oak makes a significant contribution here, but it is met by a good bit of cherry-like fruit in both scent and taste and never threatens to become this one’s defining trait. The wine is medium-full-bodied and slightly fleshy in feel and stays within focus all the way to its lingering, properly ...

From the producer: "Southing refers to the south-facing hillside bluffs found on our estate vineyard. Each year, our goal for this wine is to create the ideal marriage of complexity and elegance. Aromas of wet violets, roasted blackberries and lavender. The palate is juicy and fresh with notes of boysenberry and blackberries. 2017 Brewer-Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the great values out there, the 2017 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills offers thrilling notes of white flowers, white peach, currants, and toasted bread. This ripe, sexy wine is unquestionably at the same level as the more expensive single vineyard releases, and it will evolve for just as long. This was another thrilling lineup from Greg Brewer, and I consistently rate these wines as some of the greatest in the Sta. Rita Hills, as well as all of Santa Barbara County. In addition to the latest releases, I was also able to taste re...

2017 DuMol "Wester Reach" Russian River Valley Chardonnay
Top Pick!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Chardonnay Wester Reach was barrel fermented and aged 12 months on the lees in 30% new oak. It has a mineral-driven nose of petrichor, honey, toasted almonds, Golden apple, white peach and notions of nectarine and hay. Light to medium-bodied, it's intensely fruited and packs in the savory layers and expressive honeyed notions, lifted by juicy acidity and finishing long, intense and focused. Lovely! " (12/2019) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Chardonnay Wester Reach comes from the Russian River Valley ...

94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Étain is ripe, unctuous and flashy, with exotic beauty and tons of allure. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, plum, rose petal, mocha and licorice all run through the 2017. This is the first vintage in which M. Étain is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine rather than a pure Cabernet. The 2017 is rich and fabulously lush, with superb balance and loads of appeal. It's hard to describe a $200 wine as under-the-radar or overdelivering, but M. Étain has really been impressive these last few vintages, and 2017 is no ex...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Clean, delicate and yet full aromas of lemon cream, toast, peach blossom and chalk show on the lovely nose of this bottling from a vineyard that sits above Highway 101 in Prunedale. The chalky texture takes hold immediately on the palate, with flavors of white peach and seared nectarine that are chiseled by acidity and finish on an intriguing chive note. (MK)" (07/2019) K&L Notes: Seabold Cellars is the creation of Master Sommelier Chris Miller. Chris worked harvests for 15+ years up-and-down the coast while running the wine...

Winemaker's Notes: "The grapes were hand harvested at 22.8° Brix. During the fermentation 25% whole clusters were used and the rest was de-stemmed. Indigenous yeasts and bacteria carried out both primary and secondary fermentations. The wine was aged in 25% New French oak for 18 months. Note that relatively speaking 18 months in barrel is a long ageing time for pinot noir. Regan vineyard is in the cooler area of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA which lends to a pinot noir with high acidity, extended barrel ageing is needed to calm the wine down and get it ...

As always, pure Pinot flavor and exquisite balance are the goals with this wine."

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Candied red cherries, concentrated rosewater and riper cola aromas show on the nose of this bottling, which is quite young and needs time to evolve. The palate's tannic edge is really firm right now, but will keep the flavors of plump red fruit and star anise fresh for a long time. (MK)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: Over 20 years ago, founding partner Thomas Stolpman discovered what they believe to be one of the greatest viticultural sites on earth. Shows very good depth as well as energy on the finish, which echoes the mineral and citrus fruit notes. Its ruby/plum color gives way to a great nose of blackberries, ground pepper, herbes de Provence, and licorice. Medium-bodied, with plenty of fruit and good balance, it’s California's answer to an outstanding Côtes du Rhône." 2017 Diatom "Katherine's" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

Showing more and more classic salinity and oyster shell characteristics with time in the glass, it’s medium-bodied, has bright acidity, a layered, viscous texture, and a beautiful finish. It’s going to evolve for 8-10 years at a minimum. " (10/2018) 94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chardonnay ...

This budget-friendly wine from Tilth is absolutely irresistible. (AG)" (05/2019)

Winemaker notes: "Coming from the Oak Knoll district in the southern part of Napa Valley, the 2017 Sentall Chardonnay is a beautifully delicate wine offering the perfect balance of fruit and French oak. The wine is aged in a mixture of new and used French oak barrels, but does not undergo malolactic fermentation as we look to preserve the fresh and fruitful varietal characteristic of the Chardonnay grape."
