2017 Hartford Court Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A crazy good value, the 2017 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is the appellation release from this team, and it comes from all of the estate vineyards across the Green Valley, Laguna Ridge, and Sebastopol regions. Complex notes of strawberries, cranberries, violets, pine forest, and flowers all flow to a medium-bodied Pinot Noir that has a kiss of salinity and marine notes, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This beautiful wine competes with wines costing 2-3 times the price. Maturity: 2019-2027" (06/2019)

2017 Domaine de Verquière Côtes-du-Rhône
Top Pick!
The Verquière estate has been passed down from father to son for many generations and is now managed Thibaut Chamfort. Following age-old traditions and sustainable practices, the estate was recently certified organic. The Côtes-du-Rhône is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, grown on chalky clay soils with loads of large pebbles in the vineyards. Verquière recently returned to us after a long hiatus and we are pleased to have them back.

2017 Liparita Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $60) (Previously $60)
Top Pick!
The historic Liparita label traces its origin all the way back to the late 1800s. The founder, William Keyes, was an early pioneer in the history of California winemaking, having been among the first to designate an appellation wine with his Howell Mountain Claret. Unfortunately, the combination of Prohibition and then phylloxera took its toll on many wineries early on, including Liparita. The label was revived several times over the past century, but it was Napa Valley grower Spencer Hoopes who finally resurrected the historic name in 2006 by bringing L...

2017 Château de Chemilly Chablis
Top Pick!
96 points Decanter: "A complete wine with a beautifully complex citrus intensity, delicate floral notes, ripe stone fruit, crushed oyster shell and an underlying creamy smokiness. *Gold Medal Decanter World Wine Awards 2019*" (06/2019) K&L Notes: Perhaps no other region in Burgundy has undergone a greater turnaround. Chablis went from being one of the most important wine regions in France to almost extinction in the 1950s, and then back to a thriving, excelling region. This is an exciting wine, with vibrant citrus notes, zesty flavors of sea breeze, we...

2017 Losada Mencia Bierzo
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Attractive, ripe and bright purple berries with raspberries here, too. The palate has a silky, elegant and plush feel with fine and sleek tannins, carrying fruit in fresh mode. Drink now or hold." (07/2019) K&L Notes: Losada Vinos de Finca was established in 2004 on the outskirts of the village of Pieros, on the Camino de Santiago, midway between Cacabelos and Villafranca del Bierzo, opposite the ruins of Castro Ventosa, Bierzo's Roman-era fortification. Every part of the winemaking process is unhurried. The sustainably-farm...

2017 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Cremant de Limoux
Top Pick!
From the importer: "Limoux is the world's original birthplace of sparkling wine, with the first bubbles produced here in the year 1544, some 150 years before Dom Perignon began making sparkling wine in Champagne. Only 24 wineries exist in Limoux and Antech (pronounced "An-tesh") is by far the region's most celebrated producer, known for the purity and elegance of the sparkling wines they produce. The estate was originally planted to 150 acres six generations ago, and 24 acres have been added over the years. In addition to their estate grapes, for the la...

2017 Nor Wester by Greystone Pinot Noir North Canterbury
Top Pick!
93 points Bob Campbell: "Gently aromatic wine with bright cherry, crushed herb, anise, spice and nutty oak flavours. A supple, accessible, medium-bodied Pinot Noir with character and sophistication. It offers good value at this price." (05/2019) 93 points Sam Kim: "Wonderfully fruited and immediately appealing, the bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, warm spice and cedar characters, leading to a succulent palate that is supple and beautifully rounded. The wine offers terrific fruit intensity and silky texture, finishing long and delicious." (07/2019) 91...

2017 Alain Corcia Bourgogne Rouge
Top Pick!
Alain Corcia founded his négociant company back in 1983. Originally focused on bottling Burgundy, they expanded their grower relationships to include wines from the Rhône, Bordeaux and even Champagne. Our relationship with Alain goes back over three decades, and he and his wife Patricia have supplied us with some of our greatest values from their respective regions. As a négociant, Mr. Corcia is very hands-on with the wines, making each one in its home region and choosing not to blend across appellations, all the better to reflect each wine's true terroi...
Price: $14.99

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Superripe grapes are the secret behind this rich wine. Although it is dry, this floral wine offers a touch of honey that balances the crisp apple flavors and opulent texture. Still young, this intense wine deserves to age. Drink from 2020. (RV)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: Established over 50 years ago, the 4th generation of the Denis family now runs this operation. Julien is the winemaker, Stephane in charge of the viticulture and Vincent oversees the administration and sales. Over the last decades the property has grown from 5 ...

92 points James Suckling: "Very attractive melon and nectarine aromas. The palate is ripe and generous, but with lively acidity that keeps it straight and clean. Quite a rich finish. Drink now. " (08/2018)

91 points Decanter: "An assemblage of two different terroirs: yellow marls overlaid with large pebbles at higher altitude, and clay-limestone on the plain. The fruit is all hand-harvested, destemmed then fermented with gentle extraction. The wine is aged in large oak foudres for four months before bottling. It's deep and juicy, with appealing plum and blueberry fruits. There's more blackberry on the palate, along with dense tannins. It's very well balanced and well structured, with good length. A good value pick among the 2017 Rasteaus. (MW)" (10/2018) ...

2017 Thistle Ridge Pinot Noir Waipara Valley North Canterbury
Top Pick!
93 points Sam Kim: "A gorgeously styled pinot offering soothing fruit flavours with seductive savoury nuances; the fragrant bouquet shows spiced cherry, dark plum, thyme and almond characters with hints of game and mushrooms. The palate is juicy and beautifully rounded, displaying supple mouthfeel and fine texture, finishing long and silky. At its best: now to 2021." (11/2018) Raymond Chan: "Ruby-red colour with a little depth, lighter edged. The nose is softly packed with a firm core of dark-red cherry and berry fruit entwined with dark herbs and a su...

2017 Fossil Point Edna Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
From the producer: "In the Edna Valley, on California’s Central Coast, our vines are never far from the influence of the sea. Sunny afternoons yield daily to brisk marine breezes, and the growing season is directly shaped by the seasonal flow of the currents and surface temperature of the nearby Pacific Ocean. Even our soils of calcareous shale and coarse sand were uplifted from the ancient ocean floor and weathered into place over the millennia. Fossil Point pays tribute to this bond between sea and vine. Located less than five miles due west of our wi...

2017 TED by Mount Edward Central Otago Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: " Attractive and deeply fruited Pinot that has impressive black-cherry aromas and flavors with subtly played, spicy oak influence sitting in the background. This has impressive, generous fruit. Drink now. Screw cap. " (12/2018) Bob Campbell: "Supple yet quite weighty Pinot Noir with cherry, plum, spice and a hint of fresh herb flavours. Appealing fruit sweetness with a dry and slightly stalky finish. An entry-level Pinot Noir with character." (04/2019) K&L Notes: Number 86 on James Suckling's Top 100 New Zealand Wines of 201...

91 points James Suckling: "Bright and fruity with bilberries, citrus and earl grey tea. Citrusy and fine on the light-to medium-bodied palate. Firm but generous tannins. Drink now." (11/2019) K&L Notes: From the producer: "The Ricci family was born in 1150; Palazzo Ricci, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces of Montepulciano, was commissioned by Cardinal Giovanni Ricci in 1534 by the best architect of the moment, the Sienese Baldassarre Peruzzi and finished being constructed in 1562. The Cantina De’Ricci was part of the project for the Palace...

2017 Chateau de L'Ou "Infiniment" Côtes Catalanes Rouge
Top Pick!
94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Cotes Catalanes Infiniment De L'Ou comes from vines around the estate, which is located on the lower plains of the Roussillon, not too far from the Les Aspres region. Awesome notes of blueberries, crushed violets, incense, toasted bread, and spice all give way to a perfumed, sweetly fruited, seamless red that has no hard edges and beautifully polished tannins. Drink through 2027." (09/2019) K&L Notes: Séverine Bourrier came to winemaking through her own passion for the subject, not having the family history associated w...

2017 Mas de Sainte Croix "Passion d'Une Terre" Côtes du Rhône-Villages Valreas
Top Pick!
91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and warm in feel, featuring blackberry and boysenberry puree flavors, supported by a graphite spine and carrying through an anise- and lavender-infused finish, all while the fruit easily keeps pace. Solid. (JM)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: Jacques Coipel worked in the petrol industry until 2002 when he decided to change career paths and enter the wine business. He purchased an exceptional site in the Cotes du Rhone Village Cru of Valreas. His vineyards sit at around 1,200 feet with a mix of clay, limestone and gravel making up ...

2017 Domaine Vincent Carême Vouvray Sec
Top Pick!
94 points Wine & Spirits: "Vincent Carême has assembled a 42-acre domaine in Vouvray, including several parcels of 45-year-old vines. He’s proven himself to be a masterful grower of Chenin, delivering wines like this racy, delicious 2017. This vintage has a textural beauty, combining silk and a more open, oxidative feel of cotton, while the fruit ranges from tart white currants to bruised apple. A spicy fennel-seed complexity makes the wine feel ornate. Compelling to drink now, this is worth following over the next several years." (04/2019) 92 points W...

2017 Kalinda Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
We'd love to tell you all about the storied estate from which we sourced this superb, classic example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, but we can't. For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. That being said, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that wine from this...

2017 Clos de Luz "Azuda" Syrah Rapel Valley
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A wealth of fresh, ripe berries with a slew of rich dark chocolate on the nose, leading to a palate that has deeply fleshy and nicely nuanced, ripe red and dark berries in abundance. This is nicely cut indeed." (04/2019) K&L Notes: We are very excited to be offering wines from our newest direct import from Chile, Clos de Luz. Located in the Almahue Valley sub region of the Rapel Valley. Almahue Valley is located 70 miles Southeast of Santiago, 40 miles from the Pacific Ocean and 28 miles from the Andes Mountains. The Clos de ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sommelier-turned-winemaker Chris Miller is acutely aware of value in the Pinot Noir market, and this is a new leader in that category. Bing cherry, roasted pork and pepper show on the nose, while the palate packs tangy pomegranate with bay leaf, juniper and wild sage. *Editor's Choice* (MK)" (10/2019)

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The base 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant, and as Cabernet Sauvignon goes, it’s a value that’s hard to beat! Classic black and blue fruits, damp earth, violets, and tobacco notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort that stays pure, impeccably balanced, and vibrant on the palate. It’s the real deal, and if it was from Napa, it would sell for 3-4 times the price." (04/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "A very appealing, all-round cabernet that gets all the treatment, in terms of natural-yeast fermentation and exten...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Open and rounded in feel, with flashes of salted butter, macadamia nut, white peach and creamed yellow apple fruit. A light blanched almond hint on the finish keeps this fresh. Clairette, Viognier and Grenache Blanc. Drink now through 2020. 375 cases made, 130 cases imported. (JM)" (11/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mostly Clairette, with up to 20% Grenache Blanc and Viognier (combined), the 2017 Cotes du Rhone Blanc features alluring scents of honey, tangerine and lime. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky in t...

2017 Banshee Sonoma County Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
Vinous: "The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) is lovely and also a terrific value. Bright red-toned fruit and floral notes give the Sonoma County Pinot much of its considerable appeal. This is such a gorgeous wine in its peer group. (AG)" (05/2019)
Price: $24.95

There is a wonderful element of whimsy and joy at this tiny, family bodega located in Laguardia. The elephant logo, the onsite African art museum, as well as the name (there is no Señor de Lesmos, as it turns out) all speak to the family's joie de vivre and sense of humor. There is nothing funny about the quality of these wines, though. All estate fruit, hand harvested and carefully vinified with native yeasts, this is a hand-sewn wine with the purity, texture and elegance to prove it. Cuarteto is a classic, Alavesa style "maceración carbonica" wine whe...

91 points Vinous: "Limpid ruby-red. Vibrant red and dark berry scents are complemented by suggestions of candied rose, star anise and cola; a minerally element builds in the background. Fleshy and seamless in texture, showing very good energy to the sweet cherry and black raspberry flavors, which deepen slowly on the back half. Shows strong, spicy tenacity on the persistent, floral-dominated finish, which is shaped by supple, slow-building tannins. (JR)" (06/2019) K&L Notes: Averaen Pinot Noir comes from the folks at Banshee, and is made in Oregon by w...

2017 Cantina Andrian Trentino-Alto Adige Pinot Grigio
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "This is a stunning Pinot Grigio for the difficult vintage with a ton of ripe melon, candied orange and just a hint of raisin bread. Ripe, concentrated and mouth-filling, but beautifully balanced with a very long finish that’s deep and lively." (11/2018)

2017 Domaine de la Ganse Vacqueyras
Top Pick!
91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Vacqueyras La Ganse offers the classic ripe yet structured style of the vintage as well as terrific red and black fruits, peppery herbs, and garrigue aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, textured, and with ripe tannins, give bottles another year and it should keep for 7-8." (09/2019) K&L Notes: Coralie Onde is from the winemaking family behind Domaine les Ondines, but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate in 2008. She formed Domaine de la Ganse in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrif...

2017 Jean-Michel Dupre "1935" Morgon
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vines that are more than 80 years old are rare even in Beaujolais, which has many longstanding vineyards. This wine shows firm concentration and ripe tannins that are balanced by fresh acidity and black-currant flavors. (RV)" (03/2019)

Tenuta La Fortuna's Fortunello bottling is 100% Sangiovese grown in Tuscany. Vintages are aged for four months in French oak barrels and typically show aromas of raspberries and cherries, with deep chocolaty tones lingering on the finish. This tastes significantly more expensive than it is!
Price: $14.99

Gold Medal and 92 points, 2019 Press Democrat North Coast Wine Competition. Winery's note: "Designed for those of us who love depth and complexity. We start with a base of briary, juicy Zinfandel and layer in depth from complementary varieties including tangy Carignane, floral Malbec, and meaty Syrah. To harness all the volume and tame the power we age in French oak, which imparts robust vanilla, amber honey, and roasted hazelnut flavors as well as a velvety mouthfeel. The dark cherry/mahogany red color is indicative of the luscious palate structure whi...

90 points Wine Spectator: "A broad, supple version, displaying ripe plum, cherry, licorice and stony flavors. Grainy tannins shore up the finish, with an overall impression of balance and brightness. (BS)" (10/2019) Decanter: "Pleasant and complex floral aromatics. Ripe cherry fruits with an almost jammy character on the palate. (panel tasting) " (06/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This has aromas of underbrush, charred earth, leather and a whiff of cured meat. On the linear, no-frills palate, dusty tannins accompany licorice, espresso and sour cherry. (KO)"...

The Antech "Emotion" is a little something different: a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Mauzac and Pinot Noir from the AOC Crémant de Limoux in the Languedoc region of southern France. Since the 2012 vintage it has been a huge hit with our staff; now it is back, to make our evenings and dinner parties sparkle just that much more. Pale pink hue, fine bead, delicate hints of cherry and strawberry with white floral notes. A crisp, elegant sparkler made in the traditional method, spending 15 months in the bottle before disgorgement. At way less than the p...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dried fruit aromas, deep flavors, full body and moderate tannins add up to a robust, berry-drenched wine that packs a big punch. Blackberries, dried figs and light spicy accents fill out the palate and linger a bit on the finish. (JG)" (08/2019) Wine Spectator: "Jammy and a touch sweet, with zesty black raspberry, sage and green peppercorn notes. Drink now. (TF)" (09/2019) K&L Notes: The Amador Vintners report: "Founded in 1856, this Registered Historic Landmark is among the oldest wineries in California. Resurrected in th...

Dario Ermacora was one of our first Italian direct imports. His wines have always been textbook, classic, and archetypal for Friulian whites: understated, balanced, with a long finish. His winery is in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, or the Eastern Hills of Friuli, a few scant kilometers from the Slovenian border. Most of Friuli is a flat, glaciated plain running from the Julian Alps down to the top of the Adriatic Sea, but on the eastern border the topography changes. In the Colli Orientali a series of horseshoe-shaped glacial moraines dot the landscape...

Producer Christophe Hallereau wasn't interested in being in the wine business until he inherited his family vineyards. Still maintaining his day job, he has become a weekend warrior winemaker maintaining the property and the cellar library. With 8 hectares in the village of Vallet, he now runs the local association of growers. All wines are fermented in concrete with native yeasts and minimal additions of SO2. Subsoils in the region are igneous with vineyards composed primarily of mica-schist. Vallet is a pending cru appellation and is known for its clay...

90 points Wine Spectator: "A bright, racy style, with a beam of violet-infused cassis and cherry fruit flavors laced with a subtle chalky spine. Offers a deliciously unencumbered finish. Drink now through 2020. 2,500 cases made, 400 cases imported. (JM)" (11/2018) K&L Notes: The Desmeures family of Domaine des Remizières are fourth-generation winemakers who originally sold grapes to the local cooperative. After completing their winery in 1974, the family began production at their new property. The estate is now managed by Phillipe Desmeures, his daught...

2017 Domaine de la Réserve d'O "La Réserve d'O" Terrasses du Larzac
Top Pick!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The primary production of the estate, the 2017 Terrasses du Larzac La Réserve d’O is a blend of 45% each Grenache and Syrah, plus 10% Cinsault. Aged in tank and amphorae, it's a delicious blend of cherries, raspberries and blueberries with garrigue and violets. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky in texture, with only soft, ephemeral tannins on the finish. 2017 João Cabral Almeida "Camaleão" Minho Alvarinho
Top Pick!
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Camaleão Alvarinho is very dry and comes in at 13% alcohol. Despite how dry it is, it seems fruity and rich, bursting with flavor. Not surprisingly, this adds some concentration to the blend (Alvarinho tends to produce deeper and richer wines). Showing beautiful purity of fruit and ripeness, this is pretty sexy. As it sits in the glass, it warms up and develops beautifully too, the underlying acidity and freshness coming closer to the foreground. Drink through 2030. (MS)" (06/2018) 90 points Wine Enthu...

2017 Lúuma (AKA Wine Co.) Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Top Pick!
A very fresh, bright, floral, crisp Chard, perfect for summer sipping. Nice weight and richness on the palete but with zesty acidity and mineral tones. Very minimal oak influence here. Fantastic value for money! A lovely everyday "house" Chardonnay or crowd pleasing party wine. Delicious! (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Domestic Wine Buyer)

From the winery: "Leon and Shirley Sobon founded Shenandoah Vineyards in 1977. They were one of the first four wineries in Amador County's now well known Shenandoah Valley appellation. From the first offering of 1,200 cases, the winery has continued to thrive, adjusting the portfolio of wines over the years. It is now producing about 25,000 cases per year. Demand continues to grow as a result of skilled winemaking, marketing, and strong family commitments to quality and service. Today, we continue to use estate grown grapes from our sustainably-farmed vi...

The K&L Kalinda wines are consistently among the best values in our store. We work closely with top producers to bring you first-rate wine at reasonable prices. We can't reveal our sources, but we can say that this is a steal. Certainly not a household name, Lime Kiln Valley is situated in San Benito County and was granted AVA status in 1982 (the same year as nearby Chalone), and before Calera's Mt. Harlan AVA (1990) which Lime Kiln Valley borders. These unorthodox Pinot Noir terroirs are understood to be successful because of their limestone subsoils. T...

2017 La Monacesca Verdicchio di Matelica
Top Pick!
The Matelica region of the Marche is one of the most unique growing zones in all of Italy; it is a north-south valley in the middle of the Apennine mountain range that once was a salt lake. The orientation of the valley closes it off from the warm coastal waters (the opposite of the west coast of the US) and gives it a more continental climate of cold winters, hot summers but cool nights, the perfect balance to make vibrant wines.

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Mountain Cuvée is a blend of 74% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, aged eight months in 15% new French oak. Medium ruby-purple in color, it gives scents of chocolate-covered cherries, cedar, warm plum, blackcurrants and dried herbs with touches of cardamom and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with good flavor intensity and a soft structuring frame, finishing long and with just enough freshness." (12/2019) K&L Notes: From the winery: "Varietal Compositio...

Finca Garabato is a parcel of Valtea's oldest wines. You will notice that it says "2o Año" on the label, which refers to the fact that it ages in tank on its lees for a year following fermentation. This gives the wine a lovely richness, which really ramps up the flavor and textural qualities of the wine. Still refreshing, only richer than the regular Valtea bottling and ready to take on a meal.
