100 points James Suckling: "Fantastic aromas of sweet tobacco, rose petals, mushrooms and dark fruits such as raspberries and currants. Citrus blossom, too. Full body, firm and velvety tannins, yet this remains tight and polished. Very reserved and beautiful. Subtle texture. Savory. You are going to want to drink this now! However, it's a beauty built for aging. The purity of cabernet sauvignon (95%) is spellbinding." (01/2017) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill is an extraordinary wine with an inky bluis...

96 points James Suckling: "This is a soft and silky wine with a pretty texture of ripe tannins and ripe fruit with stone and dried-mushroom undertones. Medium to full body and lovely fruit. Drink now or hold." (05/2017) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even more superior is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon McGah Family Vineyard Reserve, which is a selection of four barrels, or 100 cases. This is a killer effort, with an inky purple color, a sweet nose of black raspberries, blackberry and cassis, licorice, graphite and spring flowers. It has terrifi...

100 points James Suckling: "Aromatic and vivid with blackberries, fresh mushrooms, blackcurrants and flowers. Full-bodied, firm and very silky. Tightly wound ball of silk. Extremely long and linear. Fine-grained. Lasts for minutes. Reminiscent of the great Napa reds of the 1950s and 1960s. Best to taste in 2025 but superb now. Greatest Bryant ever. *Top 100 of 2017*" (01/2017) 99 points Vinous: "Bryant's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely stunning. Vibrant, nuanced and exceptionally polished, the 2014 captures all the potential this wine showed when...

98-100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The last 2014 I tasted is the big-boy that comes from the undeniably first-growth vineyard, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer to Kalon Vineyard. This is aged in 100% new French oak from clones 4 and 337 of Cabernet Sauvignon. (See Issue 227's detailed reviews of the Schrader Cabernets from this site made from these clones for a better understanding). This wine was scheduled to be bottled in the beginning of February 2017. What can one say? This looks to be potentially perfect wine. It has a dense purple...

92 points Vinous: "A wine of precision and understatement, the 2014 Pinot Noir Vista Verde Vineyard offers up generous sweet red and bluish-hued berry flavors, with good supporting acidity and nuance to match. The Vista Verde is one of the smaller-scaled Pinots. Here it is the wine's balance that impresses most. A closing kick of acidity adds brightness and energy. (AG)" (08/2016) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a rich black plum darkness to the nose of this bottling, which transitions to muddy loam and wet clay, lifted by aromatic sagebrush. The ...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah Stonessence checks in as 100% Syrah that's all from the In The Rocks Vineyard in the rocks region of Walla Walla. Notes of blackberries, blueberries, crushed violets and peppery herbs all emerge from this tight, backward, concentrated Syrah that has thrilling purity. With air, it shows a touch more meat and game, but it desperately needs 2-3 years of cellaring and will keep for a decade or more after that. It’s a killer bottle of wine! (JD) 96+" (06/2007) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and harmo...

93 points James Suckling: "A bigger style with lots of fleshy tannins, yet this is firm and fresh. Full body and blackberry and licorice character. Long finish. Fruit-forward yet contrasty. Drink or hold. " (05/2017) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch is a sweetly fruited, voluptuous - even decadent - Cabernet that offers sensational purity in its crème de cassis, leafy herbs, earth and graphite/lead pencil aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and playing in the more mid-weight, frontend-loaded ...

The Howell Mountain AVA is located a few miles northeast of this well-funded, yet also a little literary and rock and roll-influenced Stags Leap District area winery that makes appellation Cabernet Sauvignon from around the Napa Valley. The winery's vintage note: "There is an unrelenting quality to the powerful, young 2014 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The distinctive flourish of aromas is so reminiscent of the mountain volcanic soil and pine forest terrior where it is grown, that it could be from nowhere else. Sous bois aromas comingle with warm ...

91 points Vinous: "The 2014 Prince of Hearts is fabulous. Soft, open-knit and expressive, the Prince of Hearts is one of the more gracious wines readers will find in this vintage. Expressive floral and red-toned fruit notes give the 2014 its feminine, sensual personality. This is one of the finest Napa Valley wines readers will find in its price range. (AG)" (12/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Prince of Hearts (63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) is a cuvée of 1,450 cases. This is a ...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Plump rich blackberry, mocha, cigar box, licorice and spice notes are delivered in even portions, making for a deep, complex, persistent charmer. Best from 2019 through 2032. (JL)" (11/2017)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chardonnay is light gold-colored with a greenish hue and beautiful, fresh tropical fruit flavors of pineapple, pear, honeysuckle and a touch of citrus. It is not as dense and concentrated as the 2013, but I love its vibrancy and beautiful subtleties and nuances. It is another top-notch effort from Pahlmeyer to drink over the next 7-8 years. Does anyone care if Demi Moore is still drinking Pahlmeyer Chardonnay? (RP)" (12/2015) 91 points Vinous: "The 2014 Chardonnay (Napa Valley) is a beautifully balance...

Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* This fat and full-bodied Merlot shows the same emphatic imprint of ripeness that marks the two Lewis Syrahs in this issue, and, if not a wine much concerned with subtlety or nuance, it will win admirers of no-holds-barred richness. It deserves a good deal of credit for not abandoning its varietally true, black cherry fruit in the face of so much chocolate and sweet oak, and, even if a little too hot and more gruffly tannic than it needs to be, it is a wine of grand proportion and serious depth." (11/2016) K&L Notes: A sc...

93 points Bob Campbell: "Deepish red/purple, good bright young colour. There are spicy oak and and ripe fruit aromas, quite charming, inviting and promising to give more in time. The wine is concentrated, lively and intense in the mouth, energised by plenty of acidity and the tannins are very evident but also ripe and without bitterness or sappiness. Power and length aplenty. An impressive wine which promises much, although it is quite oaky at this juncture. (HH)" (03/2017) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Earthier, darker and riper than the 2...

93 points Vinous: "Beams of tannin and an overall dark flavor profile give the 2014 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard much of its distinctive, virile personality. One of the more structured wines in the range, the Fredrick needs time in bottle to soften. Even so, the Fredericks has developed beautifully over the last year. Intense red stone fruit, white pepper, mint and chalk notes, along with the signature mineral notes from these volcanic soils, give the wine much of its drive and overall focus. (AG)" (12/2016) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "F...

92 points James Suckling: "Very floral and vivid on the nose with lovely ripe Cabernet character that showcases currants and berries. Full body, tight and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Love the balance and beauty." (02/2017) 89-91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Blackberry notes linger over a ripe, smooth texture from fine tannins. This wine is full-bodied, yet balanced by ample acidity. (RV)" (04/2015) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I also loved the 2014 Chateau Pibran, which is a similar blend to the 2015, albeit with slightly less Cabernet Sauvignon. It off...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A blend of 72% Pinot Noir and 28% Chardonnay, this is a stunning vintage of the perennially impressive sparkler. Nutty and earthy, it sings in strawberry, wet stone and rose petal. The palate offers a lively mousse and persistent acidity, making it vibrant and easy to enjoy. (VB)" (03/2019) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "This fresh vintage of Iron Horse’s Wedding Cuvée is coral pink, like an English garden rose, a pretty wine with structure and depth to it. The pink continues into strawberry flavors and brisk pink-grapefruit aci...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Showing the hallmark elegance and seductiveness of this terrific estate, the 2014 Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande is deeply colored (especially in the vintage) and delivers a heavenly bouquet of crème de cassis, ripe plums, graphite, cedar pencil, roasted coffee, and tons of building minerality and liquid rock-like nuances. Incredibly pure, textured, full-bodied, and with a seamless integration of its fruit, tannin, and acidity, it’s already approachable but will keep for two to three decades." (11/2017) 95 points Vinous:...

94 points James Suckling: "A juicy and savory Napa red showing plums, chocolate, walnuts and cedar. Full-bodied with round and chewy tannins, yet this is polished and pretty. Better in 2019." (01/2017) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Oakville shows plenty of blackberry, cassis, graphite, licorice, an opaque purple color, sweet blue and black fruits with ripe tannin and a nice, well-delineated full-bodied mouthfeel. Like most 2014s, it is already showing plenty of charm and fruit, but this has slightly ...

Vintage notes from the winery: "At Lytton West in 2004, Ridge planted a parcel of primitivo, a zinfandel clone from the Puglia region of Italy. After two years of heavy yields, the vines set a light crop that ripened evenly but quickly. When fermented, it was apparent this was the most structured, full-bodied primitivo we have produced. To enhance acidity and balance tannins, we included some carignane. Approachable now, this excellent wine will evolve over the next five to six years."

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My favorite of the Chardonnays, the 2014 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard reveals more minerality than the Alpine Vineyard, with lots of crushed rock, caramelized white currant, white peach and a distinct saltiness all emerging from the glass. This rich, beautifully concentrated and layered Chardonnay needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will keep for a decade. (JD)" (10/2016) 92 points Vinous: "A rich, voluptuous wine, the 2014 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard is also the most overt of the Rhys Chardonnays. Orange jam,...

97 points James Suckling: "Incredible aromas of grilled meat, blackberries, rose petals and black velvet. Medium to full body and ultra-velvety tannins — even if this doesn't show at first. It lags for five or six seconds and then grows and grows. Linear structure." (05/2017) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lastly, the 2014 Syrah IX Estate has this incredibly fragrant, flowery bouquet that makes it seem as if there were some Viognier co-fermented with it, but it’s always 100% Syrah coming from their steep vineyards. Oodles of honeysuckle, bla...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Equally provocative and profound is the magnificent 2014 Chardonnay Point Rouge. Complex notes of tropical fruits intermixed with toast, smoked almonds, brioche and white peach are stunning in this prodigious, full-bodied, multidimensional Chardonnay. Both the 2015 and 2014 are 10- to 15-year wines, but extremely difficult to find in the marketplace. As I have mentioned in the past, readers should note the slight greenish hue to all of the Peter Michael Chardonnays, which seems to be a healthy sign of high-qualit...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Incorporating a touch more Viognier than normal, the 2014 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard is 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier from the first vineyard planted in the stones region of Walla Walla. Sporting a surprisingly deep, inky color, it offers a heavenly bouquet of black olives, tobacco leaf, smoked meats, pepper, blackcurrant and black cherry notes. Deep, rich and ever changing in the glass, with incredible complexity and layers, this full-bodied masterpiece has building tannin, a stacked mid-palate and a great, great fini...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 176-case 2014 The Lovers checks in as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah that was brought up all in 40% new barrels. The Cabernet shows beautifully here with its blackcurrants, graphite and dried herbs, with some meaty, smoky notes (no doubt from the Syrah) coming through on the background. A big, rich, impressively concentrated red, with building tannin and a great mid-palate, it's beautiful today but will be even better in 2-3 years and I suspect will have two decades of longevity. I think the 2014 vint...

91 points Wine & Spirits: "Most of this wine comes from Yountville, with contributions from Rutherford and Calistoga as well. The freshness of Yountville is there in the front of the wine, fragrant, herbal and refined. Then there’s full ripeness that brings depth to the flavors and juicy tannins to the finish. Distinctly meaty, with an iron-like warmth, this should gain complexity with several years of bottle age." (12/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "This wine has a high-octane opening of power and concentration, the body following in big style and youthful oa...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another Stags Leap cuvée, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Scarlet Love is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Hints of graphite, blackberry, blueberry, floral notes, charcoal and incense jump from the glass of this sensational Cabernet Sauvignon. Inky purple, with fabulous concentration, a full-bodied mouthfeel and incredible finish with no hard edges, this is a magnificent 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 25 or more years. (RP)" (12/2016) 92 points Vinous: ...

96 points James Suckling: "A rich and dense red with deep and rich flavors of spice, smoked meat, mushrooms and berries. Medium to full body. Extremely long and creamy. Wonderful fruit and balance. Drink now." (07/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I previewed three vintages of the village red form Lanciego in Rioja, starting with the 2014 Lanzaga. This was a great opportunity to check how the wine is evolving. They used larger barrels and are making the wine more transparent and increasing the amount of other grapes (it probably has less ...
