91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The excellent 2014 Syrah Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard - which now bears the black-gold label formerly worn by the Santa Barbara County bottling - offers up an expressive nose of black cherry, blackberry, smoke, soil, tar and grilled meat. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and open-knit, with a juicy core of succulent fruit, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. (WK)" (04/2018)

This Syrah is grown in a cool climate, and has open, perfumed aromatics with black berry fruit, cassis, and sage on the nose. On the palate it transitions to medium body with fresh acidity, mild tannin and a long follow through. Loads of concentrated blueberry fruit complement the slightly earthy notes that come into play on the close. We highly recommend this with roasted lamb dishes, and smoked game. Winemaker's notes: "Lots of spice and all things nice! Dark chocolate and coffee notes. Perhaps with a hint of bay leaf and clove. These wines have the t...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah la Paciencia Vineyard was also vinified in concrete and aged in neutral barrels. Its deep ruby/mostly opaque color is followed by a deep, slightly closed bouquet of smoked black fruits, cured meats, black olive and violet/floral aromas and flavors. Like all of the wines here, it's seamless and elegant on the palate, yet has plenty of authority, depth and length. (JD)" (06/2017) 94 points James Suckling: "An array of cloves and other woody spices wrapped into crushed stones and rich dark plum frui...

100 points Decanter: "A perfect wine: extraordinary chypre and warm earth notes and the powerful fruit follows. Phenomenal Shiraz with 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. (MJ)" (09/2018) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rich, concentrated and intense, the 2014 Grange delivers exactly what we've come to expect from this Penfolds icon wine. It's full-bodied, velvety in feel and loaded with plummy fruit, framed in vanilla and cedar. Dense, powerful and tannic, it should prove to be long lived, even by Grange standards. Gago doesn't rate the vintage overall th...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Seymour's comes from a higher elevation site that’s hammered by the winds off the Pacific Ocean. Classic Seymour’s all the way with its huge nose of black fruits, tobacco, ground pepper, crushed rocks, and ample meatiness, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and a great finish. While the Seymour’s is always the most backward and austere of the three single-vineyard Syrahs, the forward nature of the 2014 vintage shows in the wine’s texture and slightly more c...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Lorraine offers more black fruits than normal, with plenty of Reva-like iodine, sagebrush, melted licorice, and smoked earth notes as well as more black olive and cassis with time in the glass. It has the classic silk and elegance on the palate, however, and offers a full-bodied, layered, voluptuous texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a blockbuster finish. As always, it’s the most seamless and elegant in the lineup. Drink it any time over the coming 20 years or more. Drink now-2038." (11/2018) 96 points Vinous: "Lurid viol...

96 points Vinous: "The 2014 Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard is a magical wine. Interestingly, the Syrah shares much with the Pinot off this site in its structural feel and dark flavor profile. Inky blue/purplish fruit, herbs, crème de cassis, spice, lavender and mint are all beautifully delineated. Beams of supporting tannin give the wine its shape and overall intensity, yet the 2014 retains a super-classic, Santa Cruz Mountains feel of almost deceptively mid-weight structure. The 2014 was done with 100% whole clusters. Malolactic fermentation was done in steel...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Syrah Estate Vineyard is very much in the style of the vintage with its balance and purity, yet packs serious richness and depth in its blackcurrants, black olive, bacon fat, herbes de Provence, and both white and black pepper aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, locked and loaded, with awesome fruit, a distinct, mountain-like minerality, perfect balance, and silky tannins, this is a truly brilliant wine from Justin Harmon and the real deal. Don’t miss it. It should keep for 15 years." (01/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wi...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the highest density vineyard planted under the Cayuse label, the 489-case 2014 Syrah Armada Vineyard is about as umami and earthy as it gets. Smoke, fireplace, mushroom, black cherry, currants and olive notes all emerge from this rich, backward, tight and structured Syrah that has incredible purity of fruit, a saline/bloody, meaty character that develops with time in the glass, and tons of tannic bite on the finish. Forget this incredible wine for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades. (JD) 99+"...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a site that's next to En Chamberlin that's planted with a 4x4 spacing (the Sur Echalas is 3x3), the 2014 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard offers more fruit (blackberry, black cherry) as well as beautiful notes of violets, rose petal, pepper and earth. Fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in neutral puncheons, this full-bodied beauty has fine tannin, juicy acidity and a great finish. It's in direct contrast to the more masculine, meaty, umami style of the Sur Echalas Vineyard. Give it 2-3 years and it too will...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing similar to last year, the 2014 Syrah Foothills Reserve is a dead ringer for a traditionally made Côte Rôtie. Black olives, black raspberries, blackberries, bacon fat and licorice all flow to a rich, concentrated, yet juicy Syrah that has fine tannin and serious length. It's a gorgeous wine and will drink well for a decade. (JD)" (06/2017) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "In his reserve syrah, Matt Reynvaan is aiming for a richer, darker, more masculine version of Foothills fruit, and perhaps that’s achieved: ...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another soot, tar, mineral, bacon fat and smoked dark fruit driven beauty is the 2014 Syrah Sur Echalas Vineyard. Made from 100% Syrah, this peppery, bloody, iodine, full-bodied, concentrated effort has building tannin, a great mid-palate and a salt-laced finish. It's another unique, singular beauty that's going to benefit from short term cellaring and keep for two decades. (JD)" (06/2017) 94 points Vinous: "Bright, deep red; a bit darker than the Grenache. Pungent black raspberry, peppercorn, steak tartare and...

98 points James Suckling: "The aromas of iodine, oyster shells and mushrooms turn to blackberries. Full body, polished tannins and a plush, velvety texture. Gorgeous length and tension. Aftertaste turns to leaves, forest floor and blackberries. Salty and savory. Wow." (01/2017) 97 points Vinous: "The 2014 Cariad is wonderfully expressive, open-knit and gracious. Sweet floral and spice notes give the 2014 much of its aromatics, while fruit is bright, vibrant and intense. I imagine the 2014 will drink well pretty much upon release. Today, the 2014 is sho...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah Stonessence checks in as 100% Syrah that's all from the In The Rocks Vineyard in the rocks region of Walla Walla. Notes of blackberries, blueberries, crushed violets and peppery herbs all emerge from this tight, backward, concentrated Syrah that has thrilling purity. With air, it shows a touch more meat and game, but it desperately needs 2-3 years of cellaring and will keep for a decade or more after that. It’s a killer bottle of wine! (JD) 96+" (06/2007) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and harmo...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Incorporating a touch more Viognier than normal, the 2014 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard is 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier from the first vineyard planted in the stones region of Walla Walla. Sporting a surprisingly deep, inky color, it offers a heavenly bouquet of black olives, tobacco leaf, smoked meats, pepper, blackcurrant and black cherry notes. Deep, rich and ever changing in the glass, with incredible complexity and layers, this full-bodied masterpiece has building tannin, a stacked mid-palate and a great, great fini...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 68% Syrah and 32% Mourvèdre, the 2014 Booker Vineyard is more elegant than the 2013, yet has terrific intensity and depth. Loaded with notions of blackberries, chalky minerality, spring flowers and violets, it has sensational purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, and building tannin. It shows the suppler side to the 2014 vintage and is certainly approachable today, yet it will be at its best from 2019-2029+." (08/2017) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Booker Vineyard is a blend of 68% Syrah and 32% M...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted out of bottle, the 2014 Fracture is another incredible wine that flirts with perfection. Its saturated ruby color is followed by an awesome bouquet of creme de cassis, graphite, spring flowers, licorice and hints of minerality. A big, full-bodied, concentrated effort, it has building tannin, no hard edges, thrilling depth and a finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. And despite the overall richness level, it stays light, graceful and lively on the palate. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy through 2...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Leading off the reds, the extended barrel-aged 2014 Syrah Capo Dei Putti boasts an insane bouquet of cedarwood, white chocolate, caramelized meats, candle way, and assorted red and black fruits. With full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and an incredible elegance, it changed every time I came back to the glass and is a multi-dimensional, riveting red wine from California. A blend of 90% Syrah and the balance Viognier, Petite Sirah, and Grenache, partially destemmed and aged 38 months in 94% new French oak, give this beauty 2-...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the 2014 Syrah The Hustler comes all from the Walla Walla Valley and spent a whopping 38 months in oak. Despite the long élevage, it’s still fresh and vibrant as can be and has a brilliant bouquet of black raspberries, blackberries, lead pencil, cedar, and ground pepper. Deep, full-bodied, perfectly ripe (not overripe, not underripe), and with remarkable purity, it’s an incredibly sexy yet elegant Syrah that’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 15 years or more. 98+" (04/2019) 94 points Robert Parker...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mike commented that he likes the 2014 Syrahs much more than the 2013s, and he called 2014 a dream season. His 2014 Syrah Rosella's Vineyard, which was raised in 33% new French oak, sports the normal inky purple color as well as Cornas-like notes of olives, violets, flowers and creme de cassis. Polished, full-bodied and packed with fruit on the palate, it has sensational purity of fruit, sweet tannin and an already irresistible profile. It's worth noting that Mike reduced the amount of whole clusters in 2014, goin...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Containing just a splash of Viognier (7%), the 2014 Syrah Bossman has a deep garnet-purple color and gives a beautiful nose of baked blackberries, preserved plums and crème de cassis over nuances of violets, dark chocolate, Sichuan pepper, dried mulberries and smoked bacon. Medium to full-bodied, rich and decadent on the palate, it has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and just enough freshness supporting the black fruit and perfumed layers, delivering a long and multilayered finish. You really want to give this ...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2014 Syrah Santa Barbara is a sexy, sweetly fruited and voluptuous Syrah that offers up a rockin' bouquet of blueberry, blackberry, violets and pepper. It should drink nicely on release and over the following 5-6 years. Santa Barbara County’s Joey Tensley continues to make ripe, textured and voluptuous wines that deliver serious bang for the buck. The latest 2013s and 2014s are all outstanding. However, recent vintages are pushing on the sweetness level, and in a number of cases...

95 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red with a clay, terracotta, white-pepper and smoked-meat character. Full-bodied, round and juicy. Very flavorful and rich. Côte-Rôtie baby. Drink or hold." (03/2018) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Coming from the Royal Slope, which no doubt will deservedly have its own appellation before long, enchanting aromas of ground rock, green olive, green stem, crushed flower and dark fruit lead to a panoply of fruit and savory flavors that shake the senses to the core, with smoked meat notes persisting on the long fi...

112 cases produced. 100% Syrah. Established in 2005 by the Hawley family, Torrin produces expressive Rhone varietal-based wines. Winemaker Scott Hawley believes in letting individual vineyards shine through his wine. Instead of manipulating wines into a particular style, he prefers to work with vineyards in places that produce wines he enjoys. He rarely bottles wine with the belief that it has reached its peak, but rather appreciates its ability to change favorably over time. Torrin uses grapes from the Westside of Paso Robles, both from its own vineyar...

Bedrock notes: "Though 2013 was our last year making the Weill "Exposition" wines, we still made a single wine in 2014 using the same methods. Using a large percentage of co-fermented Viognier and a moderate fraction of whole-cluster, we vinified the wine using native yeasts. It then spent three years in 100% new oak barrels of various sizes without racking. Though only an individual wine, this was created in the same mold as the Weill wines of 2011-2013. Thus, it is an outlier stylistically for us, albeit one that many enjoy, particularly the fans of...

From the producer: "The fruit cold-soaked for 24-hours and was inoculated with yeast the next morning. Pumping over the Syrah was adjusted in duration and frequency, depending on taste and yeast activity (one to three times per day). The ferments were pressed off between two and four brix and then returned to tank. Once dry, the wine was racked off lees and inoculated for malolactic fermentation. MLF was done in tank and barrel, and upon completion, racked into barrel for 20 months."

93 points James Suckling: "So balanced and refined with a blackberry and mineral character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a polished and beautiful finish. Drink now. " (12/2016) 93 points Vinous: "Dark purple. Powerful blueberry and cherry cola scents pick up spice, woodsmoke and floral nuances with air. Fleshy and broad in the mouth, offering juicy, impressively deep black and blue fruit flavors that show outstanding energy and focus. At once rich and lithe, finishing with serious power, resonating spiciness and smooth, fully absorbed tannins....

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Sine Qua Non "Capo dei Putti" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (99JD, 98VN, 96RP). Jeb Dunnuck: "Leading off the reds, the extended barrel-aged 2014 Syrah Capo Dei Putti boasts an insane bouquet of cedarwood, white chocolate, caramelized meats, candle way, and assorted red and black fruits. With full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and an incredible elegance, it changed every time I came back to the glass and is a multi-dimensional, riveting red wine from California. A blend of 90% Syrah and the balance Viognier, Petite Sirah, and Grenache, partially destemmed and aged 38 months in 94% new French oak, give this beauty 2-3 years of bottle age, count yourself lucky, and enjoy bottles over the following 10-15 years." (10/2018)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Sine Qua Non "Piranha Waterdance" California Syrah (100RP, 99JD, (95-97VN), 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Blended of 81% Syrah, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Mourvèdre, 4% Touriga Nacional and 1% Graciano, sourced from 34% The Third Twin, 35% Eleven Confessions and 31% Cumulus (all estate vineyards), the provocative, inky purple colored 2014 Syrah Piranha Waterdance was made using 26% whole cluster and hits the scent scene with exuberant, pure crème de cassis, blackberry cordial and blueberry coulis notes with hints of espresso, licorice, garrigue and menthol, plus a gorgeous underlying perfume of red roses. The full-bodied palate is oh-so-elegant and pretty, revealing very finely pixelated tannins that beautifully frame the almost electric intensity, culminating in an epically long, licorice and chocolate-laced finish. Too stunning for mere words and rude to even try--just drink it. (LPB)" (09/2017)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Cayuse "En Chamberlin" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (96RP, 93JS, 93VN, 93WE, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 358-case 2014 Syrah en Chamberlin Vineyard (100% Syrah aged in 10-15% new 600-liter barrels) is a downright meaty, peppery effort that's reminiscent of walking into a butcher shop in the South of France. Wood smoke, black cherry, teriyaki and layers of peppered meat give way to a rich and layered yet still fresh and lightly textured beauty. With fine tannin and an inherent elegance on the palate, give bottles 2-3 years to fill out and drink over the following decade. (JD) 96+" (06/2017)
