2010 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
2010 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Reserva Rioja

Composed of the same grapes in the same percentages as the Crianza, the Reserva is a barrel selection of wines that Angel feels can undergo longer aging in barrel and then in bottle. Aged a total of 27 months in barrels, then into concrete for more than a year, the Reserva also sees bottle aging until Angel deems it ready for release. This wine ramps up the intensity of the Crianza, with more pungent fruit as well as a real spicy and wild quality. As with many of the best Riojas, this wine is quite delicious right now if you want to drink some bottles wh ...Read More »

2010 Domaine de la Jaufrette Vacqueyras Top Pick!
2010 Domaine de la Jaufrette Vacqueyras

When first tasting the wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette, the name López de Heredia sprang to mind. That famous Rioja producer is known for its late-release and complex reds that are subtle, old school and long lived. Jaufrette, to my mind, is the Rhône equivalent. Jaufrette is run by Frédéric Chastan, the third generation winemaker to oversee this project. The winery sits just outside the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation but has holdings in Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Côtes du Rhône. All the grapes are hand harvested and hand sorted, and the reds are ferment ...Read More »

2010 Caol Ila 7 Year Old "Sovereign" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Finished Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

We love it when our friends at Hunter Laing bring us young peaters to try. We've done several of these casks of Caol Ila in the past, but I don't think we've ever come across one as absolutely perfect as this little monster. Now some people will notice the description is quiet unusual, a Sherry Finished Butt. We usually expect these young peaters to get filled in to old hoggies and often stay there until we come across them 5-6 years later. Maybe they would have thrown is into an ex-sherry cask for a year or so to ace'd. Now we've moved into a whole new ...Read More »

99 points James Suckling: "The wonderfully silky texture with an added juiciness is what makes this wine so very special. The flawless and seamless nature to the wine is so impressive that it takes you breath away. Plenty of beautiful fruit but what mouthfeel. Drink now and forever." (01/2018) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is the most classical among the wines in the portfolio, the one with the longer élevage, a little bit like the wines from yesteryear but with today's knowledge about vineyards and vinification/élevage. Give this time in the bottle. The length is endless." (11/2016) 97 points Wine Spectator: "Sumptuous, offering ripe aromas of plum, cherry, spice, earth, iron and tobacco. 2010 La Prade, Côtes de Francs

90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and ripe, with a lush edge to the plum sauce and dark fig notes that's held in check by a charcoal frame. Bitter orange and Campari hints flash through the finish, with a briary feel as well. (JM, Web Only-2013)" K&L Notes: Château La Prade, just four-and-a-half hectares, was purchased by the Thienpont family in 2000. Despite the tiny size, part of the vineyards are on the limestone plateau and the rest is on a south-facing slope rich in iron. 2010 Domaine de la Jaufrette Châteauneuf-du-Pape

According to the importer, Paris Wine Company: "The wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette are resolutely old-fashioned, as the domaine has refused to change the winemaking style since the André and Paulette Chastan moved to Orange in the 1950s... Today, the Domaine de la Jaufrette is run by Alain’s son Frederic, who has maintained the same traditional winemaking philosophy. Vinification is a slow process - the fermentation occurs naturally in large concrete tanks, where the wine is allowed to sit for up to a year. It is then aged in a mix of used foudres and ...Read More »

2010 Glen Garioch 8 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

This property in Oldmeldrum has a reasonable, albeit disputed, claim to being the oldest legal producer of whisky in Scotland. It officially dates back to 1797 and traditionally it has been a quite heavily peated malt. In the 1990s, under the ownership of Beam Suntory, after a period of closure, Glen Garioch reopened and started producing the unpeated whiskey they're known for today. Even without the peat, Glen Garioch managed to retain lots of richness and it's distinct waxy tallow and spice. This sexy little 8 year shows just a smidge of faint smoke, a ...Read More »

2010 DuMol Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Connoisseurs Guide: "Despite leaning to ripeness in its initial aromas, this wine comes with plenty of black cherry fruit in tow and adds in distinct oaky richness and a quiet walnut-like note. It is medium-full-bodied in palate weight and turns out to be lighter on its feet than first impressions seem to advise, and its near-supple texture and nicely crafted fruit hold it in good stead through to a balanced, mid-depth finish. *One Star*" (10/2012) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The entry-level 2010 Pinot Noir is big, juicy and exuberant. There is no ...Read More »

2010 Canon-La-Gaffelière, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Wine Spectator: "This takes the power of the vintage and puts it in its pocket for later, preferring instead to let mouthwatering briar, loganberry, mulberry and blackberry fruit strut its way forward, enlivened with roasted wood spice and supported by suavely but thoroughly embedded iron-tinged structure. Should cruise for two decades. Best from 2016 through 2035. *Top 100 Wines of 2013, No. 2* (JM)" (03/2013) 94-95 points James Suckling: "This is tight and powerful. Solid frame of fruit and tannins. Curious about this. Like the 2009. This i ...Read More »

2010 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2010 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Vinous: "Not surprisingly, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is the least expressive of these wines. At the same time, so much of its appeal is in its tightly-coiled energy and tension. Cherry pit, smoke, blood orange, mint and spice open up with time in the glass, but the 2010 is clearly built for cellaring. The wine's brightness and focus are compelling, but the 2010 needs time. (AG)" (10/2015) 95 points Wine & Spirits: "The remarkable aspect of this wine is its texture and weight, its flavors complete and fully concentrated int ...Read More »

2010 Fuenteseca Reserva 7 Year Old Añejo Tequila (750ml)

Enrique Fonseca distilled this expression in early Spring of 2010, with three-quarters of the bottling made in a double-copper column still with removed plates to achieve a lower distillation proof and the remaining quarter made in an alembic pot still. Half of the run was then stored in American white oak previously used to age California red wine, and the remaining half barreled in used dark French oak. The casks were then stored for seven years at 3,800 feet elevation in a cool-climate subterranean barrel room.

2010 Bruichladdich "Claggan, Cruach, Island And Mulindry Farms" Islay Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky (yellow tin) (750ml)

Part of what the distillery calls its "uber-provenance" series, this single malt features the barley of specific farms and is described by the producer as: "Firm, muscular and more complex than expected. Several layers of flavor are melding into a barley sugar and oak-mellowed texture while drifting over sweet, kin-dried barley."

2010 Sandhi "Bentrock Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chardonnay Bent Rock seems to open up in all directions. Endless layers of fruit flesh out in the glass. Despite the wine’s considerable intensity and sheer volume, there is more than enough underlying minerality to give structure and, most importantly, a sense of proportion. This is one of the bigger Chardonnays in the Sandhi lineup. Fresh, floral notes add a sense of lift on the close. Balance reigns supreme in the Bent Rock. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. 2010 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac Top Pick!
2010 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

98 points Vinous: "An eternal wine, the 2010 Pichon Lalande is a total showstopper. The first impression is one of explosive power, but time in the glass brings out the wine’s more delicate, floral side. Violet, graphite, crème de cassis, licorice and menthol overtones recall the 1996, but the tannins here are much softer, sweeter and more polished. In two recent tastings, the 2010 has been positively stellar. The alternation of hot days and cool nights led to a late harvest. The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest did not start until October 7; by that date in 2 ...Read More »
