2004 Moulin-Haut-Laroque, Fronsac Top Pick!
2004 Moulin-Haut-Laroque, Fronsac

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big time sleeper of the vintage from Fronsac, this beauty from proprietor Jean-Noel Herve has hit the bull’s eye. A dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of black currants, sweet cherries, crushed rocks, and a distinctive minerality. It is a medium to full-bodied, structured effort with sweet tannin, decent acidity, and oodles of fruit as well as richness. (RP)" (06/2007)

2004 Fettercairn 14 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) Top Pick!
2004 Fettercairn 14 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

The tumultuous ownership history of Fettercairn has been in part responsible for the lack of brand recognition. While it has long been bottled as a single malt, it has never gained much notoriarty that way and has found the bulk of its stocks end up in blends, most recently for Whyte and Mackay. An interesting production set up, particularly from 1995 to 2009 when they used stainless steel condensers, has lent itself to a nutty and heavy style to the malt. Fortunately for K&L drinkers, this 14 year old whisky has taken that natural style and matured into ...Read More »

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: "The contemporary stone winery, located on Howell Mountain, is surrounded by 36 acres of magnificent vineyard. The philosophy of Betty O'Shaughnessy is to make only the best! 2004 Charles Heidsieck "Blanc des Millénaires" Brut Champagne

96 points Decanter: "The 2004 follows the legacy of the remarkable 1995. Grapes from four grands crus (Avize, Cramant, Oger, Mesnil-sur-Oger) and the premier cru Vertus. Purity, richness and tension too, with brioche and leesy characters and a hint of lemon. Dense and textured, yet elegant with a real taste of chalk and a very long finish. Spending 11 years on lees, it was disgorged in November 2016. Drinking well now, but one to leave in the cellar for some time. But this is pretty and fruity. An excellent value. (JS, Web Only-2009)" K&L Notes: Can this price be correct? Absolutely! 2004 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

95 points Wine & Spirits: "The fineness of Chevalier's tannin is matched by the nobility of the fruit, a Cabernet that rides high across the palate, then lasts as a deep chord of flavor. The integration of the tannin and firm, currantlike fruit creates the wine's beauty for now, compelling for its balance of freshness and concentration. Sleek and dry as the stones in which it grows, this has lasting fruit richness for a long life ahead." Each sip makes you want another. Drink now through 2020. 250 cases made. 98 points Vinous: "The 2004 Clos du Mesnil captures all the pedigree of this epic Blanc des Blancs vintage. A soaring, majestic Champagne, the 2004 dazzles from the very first taste with its crystalline purity and brightness. In two tastings so far, the 2004 has been nothing less than a total showstopper. The vertical structure and pure, tightly-coiled power are the stuff dreams are made of. There is little doubt the 2004 is one of the very finest Clos du Mesnils in recent memory. 2004 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic, old style Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, Montelena’s 2004 reveals beautiful purity along with lots of creme de cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. By Montelena standards, it is a bit more powerful than usual (14.1% alcohol). These wines have an uncanny ability to age for 2-3 decades, and while the 2004 is slightly more forward and evolved than other vintages have been (2001 and 2002), it should last for 20-25 years. Aged 58 months (that’s not a typo) in French oak casks (the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages will spend 45-48 months in cask), the extraordinary 2004 is a 475-case blend of 92% Syrah, 5% Grenache, and the rest Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussane. A cascade of impeccably refined acidity swirls into a river of minerality that flows deep and swift all the way to the distant horizon. 2004 Philip Togni Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Philip Togni Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 95VN, 94JG, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, comes from steep mountain vineyards at the top of the Napa side of Spring Mountain. Aromas of black olives, tapenade, creme de cassis, licorice and truffles emerge from this opaque ruby/purple-colored, youthful 2004. Togni’s spiritual reference point is Bordeaux more than Napa Valley, and his wines seem to represent a hypothetical melange of those two distinctive schools of wine. Still backward, but rich, full-bodied and promising, this brilliant 2004 is 5-7 years away from its adolescence; it should age for 30-40 years. (RP) 95+" (04/2014)

2004 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (94W&S, 93ST, 93VN, 91RP). Wine & Spirits: "Ridge grows one of the most distinctive Cabernets in California at its Monte Bello estate. This vintage represents a selection of 38 percent of the crop, which itself had been naturally restricted by lower than average rainfall, particularly in winter. Ridge doesn't irrigate these vines-nor do they inoculate the juice to start fermentation, which yielded a modest 13.2 percent alcohol in 2004. The fractured limestone in the soil provided just enough moisture to grow this elegant cabernet, with flavors of wild black cherries and black currants. It feels balanced and firm, dense while weightless, a beauty that will mature for two decades from the vintage, perhaps longer." (12/2007)

Shafer’s 2004 Hillside Select is tremendous as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that competes with its peers at the highest levels. It’s always a fabulous wine, but in warm 2004, Shafer’s amphitheater vineyard sheltered the grapes, ripening them to perfection yet protecting the “iron fist in a velvet glove” structure that André Tchelistcheff defined as Stags Leap. In the case of the 2004, it carries the oak beautifully, untamed by it. The wine is wild, in fact, and quite hard to resist. 2004 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another sleeper of the vintage for this property that has been doing impressive work over recent vintages, the 2004 (a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) displays a dark ruby/purple color along with classic aromas of cedar, creme de cassis, earth, spice, and wood. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, long, and impressively endowed, it should be at its peak between 2010-2022. (RP)" (06/2007) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Often outshone alongside its stablemate, Lafite, Duhart-Milon seems to be coming into its ...Read More »

91 points Vinous: "Healthy ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, dark plum, chocolate liqueur, coffee and mocha, plus a whiff of game. Pliant, inviting Cabernet with harmonious, nicely resolved tannins. (ST)" (06/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "This wine exhibits a rich, creamy-textured mix of currant, herb, mineral, sage and cedary tobacco notes, keeping a tight focus and ending with a long, layered fini ...Read More »

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. In this cuvée we honor our historical connection to those who worked these fields before us, and Jim Pride's vision that brought us to steward this land and produce these exceptional wines."

2004 Screaming Eagle Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Screaming Eagle Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 97RP, 94ST, 94WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aged 20 months in 72% new French oak, this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc comes from a great vineyard on the valley floor in Oakville, just south of Rudd Estate and Plumpjack. The wine’s dense ruby/purple color is followed by a beautiful, Pauillac-like (think Pontet Canet or Mouton), ethereal perfume of creme de cassis, or as Michael Broadbent used to say, 'celestial black currants,' full body, a velvety texture, fine tannins, a multidimensional mouthfeel, and a terrific finish. While there were no real surprises tasting this wine, I was somewhat intrigued by just how youthful the 2004 Screaming Eagle is showing. I had expected it to reveal slightly more evolution. I thought the 13% Merlot in the blend would push the evolution more quickly. The finish lasts for a full minute. As it has been in just abo

2004 Henry's Drive Reserve Shiraz Padthaway

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a cooler climate sector of Padthaway, the 2004 Shiraz Reserve is an elegant, soft, complex effort revealing Southern Rhone-like aromas of garrigue, ground pepper, and spice box interwoven with blackberries, cassis, sweet cherries, and herbal undertones. This wild, rich, heady Shiraz tips the scales at 16% alcohol. Drink this provocative, undeniably pleasurable 2004 over the next 7-8 years. (RP)" (10/2006) 90 points Vinous: "Inky ruby color. Positively explosive on the nose, offering deep notes of blackberr ...Read More »

2004 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The youthful dark ruby/purple-colored 2004 Madrona Ranch (500 cases produced) reveals a slight touch of lightening at the edge along with beautiful blueberry, black currant and floral notes. The enticing entry is followed by a medium to full-bodied, lush, opulent, Pomerol-inspired wine (despite the fact it is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc rather than Merlot). There is enough stuffing in this 2004 to hold it for another decade. (RP)" (04/2014)

Yet for all its size, this is impeccably balanced, with a long, deep, persistent finish that keeps the focus on the fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
