2003 D.R. Stephens "Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Every year winemaker Celia Masyczek tastes and sniffs her way through the cellar seeking those lots of D.R. Stephens Cabernet Sauvignon that represent the best of the vintage. She sets one such barrel aside for Premiere Napa Valley. This year's selection promises to be special indeed with its dark red color and rich full flavors. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has not been fin ...

2003 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Eiswein (375ml)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful, multifaceted and harmonious, unfolding its apple, passion fruit and citrus flavors seamlessly. Vibrant and long on the finish, with a citrus aftertaste. Drink now through 2025." (04/2005) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For two years in a row, 2001 and 2002, Helmut Donnhoff earned perfect scores for the following effort, an amazing feat when one realizes I’ve only bestowed that honor on four young wines. While the 2003 Riesling Eiswein Oberhauser Brucke did not complete the hat-trick, it is exceptional. D ...

2003 Concha y Toro "Don Melchor" Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto

96 points Wine Spectator: "With a great nose of currant confiture and cocoa powder, this full-scale Cabernet sports dark fig, currant and blackberry fruit layered with loam, cedar, tobacco, mineral and coffee. Long and authoritative finish just sails on thanks to rather regal tannins. *Ranked #4 on Top 100 of 2006, Highly Recommended* (JM)" (09/2006) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Don Melchor has been considered one of Chile’s iconic wines since its inception in 1987. 2003 Aubert "Ritchie Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminiscent of a Batard-Montrachet, the light straw/greenish-colored 2003 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard boasts a huge, opulent, tropical fruit, roasted hazelnut, brioche, and spice box-scented bouquet. Notions of orange marmalade and citrus oil also emerge in the flavors. Full-bodied and spectacularly concentrated, it is the finest effort I have tasted from this cold climate vineyard. 2003 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blockbuster and a terrific example of Chateauneuf du Pape in a more challenging and irregular vintage is the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape. Deep purple to the rim with a gloriously flamboyant nose of black raspberry jam, kirsch, smoke, and licorice, the wine has dazzling concentration, pushes ripeness to the limit (note the flavors of figs) but pulls back with impressive purity and balance as well as plenty of force and resistance. Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: "This 2003 Cabernet Sauvinon-based blend is from our two estate vineyards, one on Howell Mountain the other on Mount Veeder. These intense mountain wines are always bottled separately and are the only two wines produced at O'Shaughnessy. 2003 Frédéric Esmonin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Generously oaked with noticeable toast notes combine with ripe, spicy and nicely expressive red raspberry and cherry Pinot aromas that lead to slighter finer, rounder and sweeter flavors than those of the bigger and more rustic Clos de Vougeot. The finish is long, concentrated and sappy and while this is not a particularly elegant wine, the underlying raw material is impressive. Drink 2010+." 2003 Dyer "Meteor Vineyard—Premiere Napa Valley" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Premiere Napa Valley lots are incredibly limited, one-off bottlings from some of the region’s top producers. Only five cases of this bottling were produced. Winery Notes: “Meteor Vineyard lies at the foot of Mt. George, east of the city of Napa. Its cobblestones suggest origins as a streambed or a shoreline and provide superior drainage. We predict that Meteor Vineyard will streak to the stratosphere among Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, and we're pleased that it shines brightly as the core of our debut 2003 Dyer Napa Valley bottling: a proud c ...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Sweet nose offers raspberry, cherry and milk chocolate. Fat, lush and sweet, with a soft, pliant, immediately accessible texture and enticing flavors of ripe red fruits. Ripe and aromatic Merlot, finishing with dusty, sweet tannins and lovely length. (ST)" (06/2006) 92 points Wine Spectator: "An openly seductive style, with ripe currant, blackberry and wild berry fruit shaded by splashy mocha and espresso bean oak flavors. 2003 Pax "Cuvée Keltie" North Coast Syrah

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Notes of bacon fat, flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, and charred wood jump from the glass of the 2003 Syrah Cuvee Keltie. No new oak is utilized, but 100% stems are used in the production of this big, tannic monster (14.9% alcohol). It comes across as a hybrid version of a ripe northern Rhone and a classic, rich, concentrated Syrah from California. This beauty is best cellared for another 1-3 years, and drunk over the following 10-12. 94+ (RP)" (12/2005) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cell ...

(JL)" (12/2005) 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Leading with a rich mix of dark berries, spiced meats and lots of sweet, toasty and caramelly oak in the nose, this impressive Syrah follows up with powerful, astoundingly concentrated flavors that fully live up to its ...

2003 Domaine Beaurenard "Cuvée Boisrenard" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

97 points Wine Spectator: "Loaded with rich, dark layers of black currant, blackberry, truffle, tar, mocha and bittersweet cocoa, this pumps out both fruit and terroir on the gripping finish. Immense in scale and depth, this is hard to lay off now, but should be even more impressive when it drops its muscle to show more elegance (that will take a while, though). Best from 2008 through 2030. *Collectibles. Rank 16, Top 100 Wines of 2006* (JM)" (04/2006) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The structured and backward, inky ruby/purple-colored 2003 ...

2003 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule Mosel

Drink now through 2030. *Collectibles* (BS)" (03/2005) 94 points John Gilman: "This 2003 Goldkapsel Auslese from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, AP #9, spent three and a half to four years in tank prior to its bottling in 2007. 2003 Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

It will be accessible young, yet age for 10-15 years. (RP)" (12/2005) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Too young to enjoy now. 2003 Gravas, Sauternes (375ml)

Château Gravas was founded in 1789 and has been in the Bernard family for five generations. It is currently owned by Michel and Florence Bernard. The name "Gravas" comes from "graves", a gravelly soil that perfectly suits the production of Sauternes wines. The estate is superbly located in Barsac between Château Coutet, Château Climens and Château Doisy-Daëne. There are 8 hectares (19.8 acres) of vineyard for the production of Sauternes. The soil is a mix of clay, sand and limestone. The 60 year-old vines are harvested by hand: the grapes are picked in s ...

2003 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Irpinia

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. (AG) 92+ " (08/2010) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautiful wine: sweet cherry and ber ...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Looking first at his Crozes Hermitage, and a wine that will stand toe to toe with any number of Hermitages, the 2003 Crozes Hermitage Les Varonniers offers thrilling black fruits, saddle leather, spice and cured meat-like qualities to go with a sexy, full-bodied, and layered profile on the palate. It will continue to evolve gracefully, but there’s no reason to delay gratification and I’d enjoy this fabulous Syrah over the coming couple of years. Its wealth of fruit and layers of concentration are backed up by splendid acidity. The most backward Chardonnay in this portfolio, it will drink well for 5-10 years. 2003 Jacob Franklin "Hoffman Lane" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "As many of you know, when we started making our own wines in 1987, we named the tiny, 200 case operation after our daughter, Elyse. Not wanting to leave our son, Jake, out of loop, we eventually named our Rhone blend after him - anyone remember 'Jake’s Cuvee'? It wasn't enough, because at the ripe age of eight Jake asked, 'When do I get my own label without her name on it?' Good point! And as parents not wanting to show favoritism, why not create a namesake label for him as well? Jacob Franklin Cellars debut bottling was in 1998 and we ...

2003 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (writing on label)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "In the wine's youth, the aroma of new oak dominates, with that smoky, minty, spicy-char note. But in the mouth the fruit explodes in intensely ripe black currants and milk chocolate. The tannins are rich and softly complex. A complete Cabernet that is luscious now, but has the balance to develop, if you can keep your hands off it." A big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, raspberries, licorice, and hints of cassis and pepper is followed by a full-bodied, rich, voluptuously-textured Zin with crisp, zesty acidity, huge body, and terrific definition as well as vibrancy. Following up in 2013, former Advocate reviewer Neal Martin preferred the 2005 and 2007 vintages, but favorably noted about the 2003 that "the palate has fine viscosity and spiciness on the entry – orange zest, mandarin and dried apricot at its heart."
