2002 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2002 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A gorgeous wine that's a legend in the making, the 2002 Rare Brut is a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, with just under 10 grams of dosage. Offering incredible notes of stone fruits, brioche, white flowers, and hints of toasted nuts, this flat out awesome wine is concentrated and opulent, yet still dances on the palate with vibrant acidity and great, great finish. It's going to drink beautifully for another two to three decades. Bravo! This cuvee has only been made in 1976, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002, and ...Read More »

2002 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart" NFB Brut Champagne

98 points Decanter: "Always the finest wine of the house, now rightly promoted as their prestige cuvée. A luminous gold colour with green tints indicates how youthful this still is. It is hard to do justice to its very high quality - latent power and density without heaviness, and supreme finesse. Brillant with wood-roasted turbot. One of the greatest wines of a great year. (ME) " (02/2017) 98 points James Suckling: "A very composed Champagne with plenty of still fresh lemon and white cherry fruits on offer. There's impressive clarity, power and richne ...Read More »

96 points Wine Spectator: "Vibrant and expressive, with distinctive aromas and flavors of gingerbread, baked white peach, singed orange peel and crystallized honey, carried on the plush and creamy mousse. An opulent version that's firm and focused, with beautiful balance and a long, graceful finish. Disgorged September 2014. Drink now through 2029. 550 cases made. (AN)" (11/2017)

2002 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2002 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beautiful floral notes intermixed with creme de cassis, licorice and charcoal jump from the glass of this dense purple-colored 2002. Opulent, broad, full-bodied and more mature than I expected given how this wine showed in its youth, this deep, rich Cabernet Sauvignon is exceptional. However, in this vintage it has to take a back seat to a number of other cuvees. The final blend was 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. 2002 Plumpjack "Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most backward wines of the tasting, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve exhibits stunning richness as well as copious notes of flowers, lead pencil shavings, white chocolate, blackberries, blueberries and cassis. This huge, pure, rich Cabernet Sauvignon possesses good acidity, a stunning texture, copious but sweet tannins, and a long finish. It needs another decade to reach full maturity, and should be a 50-year wine when all the dust settles. Bravo! (RP) " (07/2012)

2002 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (1.5L)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good saturated ruby-red. Tight nose hints at currant and smoky oak. Highly concentrated, densely packed and built to age. As young as it is, it also shows a lovely velvety texture rare for this vintage. Finishes with terrific breadth, subtle minerality and noble tannins. I've been a fan of this wine since the outset." 2002 Vérité "La Muse" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend (3L) (cracked capsule, signs of past seepage)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 93% Merlot / 7% Cabernet Franc blend (92% from the Alexander Mountain Estate, 6% from Bennett Valley and 2% from Knight’s Valley) is a 'kissing cousin' of the 2001, only softer and more flamboyant. Classically Californian in its exuberant, flamboyant, super-rich, unctuously textured style, the tannins are softer than in the 2001, but the wine unquestionably has the potential to last for another quarter of a century. It exhibits an opaque plum/purple color along with abundant notes of cassis, licorice, graphi ...Read More »

2002 Suduiraut, Sauternes

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from the Chateau reserves at the estate. Again, that barley sugar note comes through giving it a Barsac, harmonious with a little mandarin and some lemon curd. Still a little tight. The palate is balanced with ripe honeyed fruit, orange rind and a touch of Seville orange marmalade. Nice taut finish with good acidity, the mineralite compensating for a lack of depth. Very fine for the vintage. (NM)" (09/2011) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Ultraclean, with apple, vanilla and honey aromas that follow through to ...Read More »

Wonderfully silky and fine-grained, showing lovely class and lift to its red fruit and spice flavors. Not a powerhouse but remarkably suave and smooth for Pommard. 2002 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve performed significantly better than it did seven years ago. Spicy oak and new saddle leather characteristics lead to dusty, loamy soil, cherry and cassis notes. The wine reveals terrific balance as well as a hint of French oak (BV is no longer using American oak as it did in the 1970's, 1960's and 1950's). The bouquet is deep, complex and powerful, offering up notes of plums, black cherries, woodsmoke, venison, chocolate, herb tones, soil nuances and vanillin oak. On the palate, the wine is sappy, transparent and expansive, its acids succulent, its tannins supremely silky and its finish long and saline. Its youthful purple/ruby color is followed by gorgeously complex and intense aromas of wild herbs, exotic spices, caramelized beef, licorice and layers of sweet black fruits and creamy black cherry-like nuances. Wine & Spirits: "If a wine could ever make you want to pull the top down on your '68 Ferrari convertible, rip off the rearview mirror and take off, this is it. It has a different kind of energy than the '02 Cristal Rosé, which is more ethereal, like strawberries at the right hand of some ancient Gallic god. This is more insolent, brash, earth bound. All the scents and flavors seem to emanate from limestone, as does the acidity, which hits at the front of the mouth and powers through the wine with the kind of solar energy that lifts mist off the white chalk on a cool morning in Cramant. The wine goes on for miles. It's already irresistible, and will only improve with ten, 20, 30 and 40 years of age." (12/2009)

Bid on this magnum of 2002 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 97VN, 94ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Monte Bello is stunning, bursting from the glass with an expressive nose of ripe blackcurrants, crème de cassis, dried cherries, burning embers, pencil lead, loamy soil and a perfumed top note of lavender. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, lavish and expansive, cutting a broad swathe across the palate, with a deep, concentrated core of succulent fruit that's framed by ripe, plush tannins, concluding with a lingering finish. At age 16, the 2002 is truly singing, so anyone with bottles in their cellar is due for a treat. The blend is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot, and it attained 13.3% alcohol. Unusually, fully 13% was matured in new French oak—with the balance, as usual, in new American oak. (WK)" (05/2018)
