2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) Top Pick!
2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml)

100 points James Suckling: "This is so layered and intense on the palate with lemons and dried pineapple, mango and honey. Full body, very sweet, but it remains tangy and vibrant. Shows such amazing balance and intensity. Crazy finish. Hints of vanilla and apple purée. One of the greatest Yquems ever. All about purity here. " (09/2013) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "You may ask: what is the point? Another perfect score for the 2001 d'Yquem. Oh well, why not? This bottle, served blind, reinforced the sheer unadulterated brilliance of this le ...Read More »

2001 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Also brilliant, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve is full-bodied and concentrated, with classic Pegau wildness, beef blood, saddle leather and garrigue all emerging from the glass. Slightly lighter in color and weight when compared to the 2003, it’s showing some maturity and can be consumed anytime, but will without a doubt continue to evolve gracefully for another decade or more. (JD)" (08/2014) 95 points Vinous: "The 2001 Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Reservée (magnum) was by far the most reticent ...Read More »

2001 Rieussec, Sauternes

100 points James Suckling: "This is a crazy wine! It’s sweet, but not sugary. Mushrooms, furniture wax, spices then dried oranges, lemons, pineapples, and just a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied, with great density and power, yet balanced and refined. So amazing, but give this five to six years still. Pull the cork in 2016. 145 grams RS." (05/2012) 100 points Wine Spectator: "Like lemon curd on the nose, turning to honey and caramel. 2001 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley (by the way, all of the Alexander Valley offerings are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a big, sweet, oaky nose and a seductive panoply of spices from cedarwood to plum pudding and fruitcake notes. It is a sexy, sensual, broad, flavorful Cabernet lacking serious depth, but offering attractive fruit, plenty of ripeness, and a big wallop of American oak. (RP)" (02/2005) Vinous: "Medium-deep red. Exotic American oak tones of bourbon, coconut and cocoa butter dominate the no ...Read More »

2001 Forefathers McLaren Vale Shiraz Back In Stock!
2001 Forefathers McLaren Vale Shiraz

94 Points from The Wine Spectator! - "New Zealand-born Nick Goldschmidt, winemaker at Simi in California, and his New Zealand-born wife started this label as a home for their California Cabernet, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and this stunning Shiraz. It's extraordinarily rich and spicy, dripping with ultraripe blueberry, plum and currant fruit that lasts and lasts on the plush finish, polished but powerful. You could spend several times as much and not get nearly the kick. Drink now through 2015. H.S."

2001 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes (375ml)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Having tasted the Doisy-Vedrines 2001 on numerous occasions, I was expecting great things. Here under blind conditions – it delivered. It has always sported a wonderful bouquet with well defined citrus-driven fruit, augmented by orange blossom and barley sugar scents, hints of lemon curd in the background. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity. Orange peel and apricot abound and lead to a focused and beautifully defined tense finish that contradict this estate's tendency towards fatness and richness. Thi ...Read More »

2001 Climens, Barsac (375ml)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Climens 2001 has always possessed a deliriously complex and intense bouquet that is beautifully defined: dried quince and marmalade, honeycomb and antique furniture. There is an inchoate, resinous element that will surely surface over the next decade or so. This is a bouquet that demands attention and in this blind tasting, sticks out from the crowd, a sui generis. Since I last tasted it, the palate has opened up and is beginning to pump on all cylinders. It is wonderfully balanced with fabulous intensity and ...Read More »

2001 Aldo Conterno "Granbussia" Barolo Riserva

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full medium red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry, licorice, minerals and truffle, with balsamic and dried floral nuances. Fat, sweet, rich and deep; at once succulent and seamless, with a wonderfully layered texture and great early appeal. Very full without coming across as weighty. The slow-building finish features substantial sweet tannins. "Shows the magic side of 2001," Franco offers. "It can keep for a long time but it's great right now." 2001 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

92 points James Suckling: "Some might prefer this to the excellent 2000. It’s just as dense and rich but perhaps doesn’t have the same intensity and complexity as the 2000. But a clearly outstanding wine. Full body with plenty of dark fruits, chocolate and hints of earth. Drink or hold." (07/2013) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2001 Haut-Bailly reveals sweet, pure, elegant aromas of currants, toast, and cigar smoke. 2001 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 97VN, 97WE, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A resoundingly great effort from this iconic producer, Ridge's 2001 is a spectacular, still young but promising wine...A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by extravagant, generous aromas of pen ink, lead pencil shavings, spice box and black fruits. The wine is full-bodied and silky textured, but secondary nuances have not yet begun to develop as it is still very primary, tasting more like a 3-4 year old Monte Bello than one that is ten years of age. Nevertheless, it reveals spectacular concentration, a voluptuous texture, a rare opulence for a Ridge Monte Bello, and an incredible finish. The upside is enormous and this cuvee may prove somewhat atypical due to the huge percentage of Merlot in the final blend and the higher than normal alcohol. (RP)" (06/2011)

2001 Antinori "Tignanello" Toscana
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Antinori "Tignanello" Toscana (93RP, 93WE, 92VN, 92W&S, 91WS, 90DC). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Tignanello is an object lesson in how to make Cabernet work with Sangiovese, the two varieties balancing and enhancing one another in admirable symbiosis. (The percentage of Cabernet, in fact, was reduced from the previous 20% to 15% in this vintage, an important sign - I hope - of how the wind is blowing.) A blackish ruby, its perfectly focused plum and cassis fruit, given an additional complexity by notes of sweet herbs and saddle leather, is fully and completely shaped in flavors of impeccable volume, roundness, and depth, caressing and powerful and with an additional power on the close which promises another 15 years of gratifying drinking. 2001 Knob Creek "Batch 3" Limited Edition Whiskey (750ml)

In 2001, following years of tough love and training, Booker Noe passed the torch of Knob Creek to his son Fred who has carried on the tradition ever since. The 2001 Limited Edition Knob Creek series is a tribute to that transition and the relationship between the father and son distillers. One of three 14 year old batches released by Beam, batch three is not quite as sweet as batch one and not quite of tannic as batch two, ending up somewhere in between with robust oak and plenty of sweetness.

Aromas of melted licorice, smoke, crushed stones, truffles, and black currants are followed by an elegant, medium to full-bodied, pure, dense wine with no hard edges. (01/2019) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great showing for this wine in the mini-vertical, the 2001 Pavie has a slight lightening at the edge of its dark garnet/plum/purple color and a big, sweet kiss of cedar wood, incense, licorice, blackberry and lead pencil shavings. 2001 Bressler Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I believe this 2001 was made by well-known consultants Mia Klein and David Abreu. Plum, black currant, licorice, incense and graphite result in a complex, open-knit, stylish set of aromatics. In the mouth, a Margaux-like elegance and feminine style are found in this pretty yet soft, medium-bodied Cabernet. 2001 Cape d'Estaing Shiraz Kangaroo Island South Australia
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Cape d'Estaing Shiraz Kangaroo Island South Australia (94RP, 91JH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From six-year old vines cropped at a mere 2.3 tons of fruit per acre, the brilliant 2001 Shiraz is a candidate for the finest wine ever made on Kangaroo Island. It boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a complex perfume of blackberry liqueur intermixed with licorice, smoke, charcoal, and a hint of wood. Full-bodied as well as remarkably measured, elegant, and restrained for its power and mass, this brilliant achievement somehow walks the tightrope between excessive power and overly processed politeness. It combines intense flavor with tremendous finesse – an extremely difficult accomplishment. The good news continues as there are 2,500 cases of this brilliant Shiraz. It should drink well young yet evolve for 15+ years. Having been to the magical Kangaroo Island off the coast of Adelaide and spending nearly three days immersed in this wildlife parad

2001 Lokoya Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

A fabulous perfume of crushed rocks, a liqueur of raspberries, black currants and cherries, and a background floral note emerges from this intense, full-bodied Cabernet. Aged in 100% new French oak, this limited cuvee exhibits a saturated black/purple color in addition to big, sweet aromas of creosote interwoven with road tar, creme de cassis, cedar, and vanilla. At present, it delivers a dense, pure bouquet of meaty dark fruits, game, ripe herb, and licorice, medium to full -body, brilliant concentration, and a long, classic finish. 2001 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo (94RP, 93JG, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Cascina Francia has entered a period of extreme stubbornness, which has been my experience the several times I have tasted the wine recently. The sweet, candied notes that were once present in the bouquet have developed into a much more classic melange of roses, tar, licorice and red berries. The 2001 boasts tremendous structure, while some of the overt raciness that was present when the wine was young has dissipated. One of the bottles I tasted, from my cellar, only began to show some expressiveness after it had been opened for two days! The 2001 Cascina Francia is neither young nor mature, rather it is in an adolescent stage where the best option is to leave the bottles alone for at least a few more years. (AG) 94+" (04/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Gaja "Sperss" Nebbiolo Langhe (95JD, 95RP, 95ST, 94WE, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Sperss is the alter ego to the Conteisa. It is a decidedly powerful, virile wine with plenty of Serralunga muscle in its powerful, brooding personality. Tobacco, mint, crushed flowers, licorice and leather are some of the notes that add complexity and depth to the dark fruit. Layers of flavor build to the explosive finish. Readers will have to be patient with the Sperss. All it needs is time. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. (AG)" (04/2012)

2001 Château de Beaucastel "Hommage a Jacques Perrin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Château de Beaucastel "Hommage a Jacques Perrin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 95ST, 95VN, 95WS, 94W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I found this bottle of 2001 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage À Jacques Perrin to be slightly behind a recent bottle from my cellar. Nevertheless, it was perfumed and surprisingly open, with gorgeous cedar, charcuterie, truffle, blackberry and currant-like fruit all soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, seamless and supple, with its tannin, fruit and acidity perfectly balanced, it’s just now on the cusp of moving from its adolescent stage into the early stages of maturity. Give bottles another 3-5 years and enjoy over the following couple of decades. The blend here is the classic, foudre-aged mix of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 10% Counoise, and 10% Syrah. 2001 Fox Creek "Reserve" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Opulent, spicy aromas of blackberry, plum and cassis, with dark chocolate, mocha, licorice and lightly toasty, creamy vanillin oak. Sumptuous, powerful and creamy, presenting a perfectly ripened, vibrant palate dripping with impressively concentrated and luscious dark berry, plum and olive flavors, wrapped in new vanillin oak. The wine's firm, tightly knit tannins contribute to its excellent cut. Goes to prove that Australian shiraz can be big, ripe and beautiful without being overdone ...Read More »

2001 Dal Forno Romano Amarone della Valpolicella
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Dal Forno Romano Amarone della Valpolicella (97RP, 97VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Amarone is on another level entirely. It exudes notable warmth and ripeness, with profound layers of Venezuelan bitter chocolate, herbs, licorice, smoke, dark fruit and toasted oak. Made in an explosive style, this palate-staining Amarone possesses remarkable detail and nuance for such a big wine. It has been phenomenal on the two occasions I have tasted it so far. 2001 Vérité "La Muse" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2001 was the first truly great vintage for Jess Jackson and Pierre Seillan, and that is evidenced by the utterly perfect 2001 La Muse, a blend of 87% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec. Over three-fourths of it came from the Alexander Mountain estate of Jess Jackson, and the rest from Chalk Hill, Knights Valley, and a tiny bit from Bennett Valley. This dense purple-colored effort exhibits notes of licorice, creme de cassis, plum sauce, violets and truffles. Full-bodied with magnificent density, overall eq ...Read More »

2001 Behrens & Hitchcock Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Behrens & Hitchcock Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is a compelling effort. There are 245 cases of this 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot blend. Sweet notes of creme de cassis intermixed with licorice, pipe smoke, and toasty new oak gush from the glass of this full-bodied, unctuously-textured Cabernet. It possesses tremendous inner-strength as well as a mid-palate in which one could get lost. This frighteningly rich, concentrated yet structured 2001 is classic mid-Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. How do these people do it? Anticipated maturity: 2008-2022. I admire what Les Behrens, Bob Hitchcock, their wives, friends, and lunatic dog are doing at their winery and cellars on the top of Spring Mountain. They are obsessed fanatics who make wine with no compromises ... obviously my kind of people. (RP)" (12/2003)

2001 Vineyard 29 "Aida Estate" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

89-90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good ruby-red. Exotic floral notes and wild spices lift the aromas of currant, raspberry, minerals and loam. Lush, dense and minerally, with complex flavors of redcurrant, hot stones, tobacco, chocolate and roast coffee. Like the 2000, this communicates a distinctly warm-site character. Finishes with ripe, dense, substantial tannins. (ST)" (05/2003) Wine Spectator: "Excellent structure, focus and range of flavors, with rich black cherry, blackberry and pretty smoky, toasty oak flavors that veer ...Read More »
