2001 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a medium-bodied, elegant wine offering up scents of plums, cherries, and loamy soil. With good sweetness, an attractive flavor profile, low acidity, and ripe tannin, it should provide enjoyment over the next 5-6 years. (RP)" (04/2003) Wine Spectator: "A pleasant wine with plum and fresh mint character. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a light finish. (JS)" (03/2004)

2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) Top Pick!
2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml)

100 points James Suckling: "This is so layered and intense on the palate with lemons and dried pineapple, mango and honey. Full body, very sweet, but it remains tangy and vibrant. Shows such amazing balance and intensity. Crazy finish. Hints of vanilla and apple purée. One of the greatest Yquems ever. All about purity here. " (09/2013) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "You may ask: what is the point? Another perfect score for the 2001 d'Yquem. Oh well, why not? 2001 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

92 points James Suckling: "Some might prefer this to the excellent 2000. It’s just as dense and rich but perhaps doesn’t have the same intensity and complexity as the 2000. But a clearly outstanding wine. Full body with plenty of dark fruits, chocolate and hints of earth. Drink or hold." (07/2013) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2001 Haut-Bailly reveals sweet, pure, elegant aromas of currants, toast, and cigar smoke. 2001 Cap de Faugères, Côtes de Castillon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A heady concoction of jammy black fruits, melted licorice, chocolate, and espresso roast is followed by a layered wine with considerable opulence, excellent purity, and a heady, chewy, plump finish. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage." (06/2004) Wine Spectator: "Good red, with plum and light spice character. Medium to light body. Simple finish. Best after 2005." 2001 Bodegas Riojanas "Monte Real" Gran Reserva Rioja

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smoky and earthy smelling, with aromas of tobacco, subtle spice and dried cherry. This feels tight, with more acidity than body at this point in its evolution. Flavors of dried raspberry, plum, earth and brown sugar are solid and classic. (MS)" (07/2012) K&L Notes: Bodegas Riojanas is a very good and woefully underappreciated Rioja bodega making wines in a traditional style. The winery is most famous for their red wines, particularly their Viña Albina and Monte Real gran reservas. Monte Real consists of 80% Tempranillo, 15% ...Read More »

2001 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is one of the legendary whites of Bordeaux. It lives up to its reputation. The 2001 vintage of the Domaine de Chevalier white (tasted from half bottle) is well-evolved, packed with flavors of almonds, toast, spice, fresh grapefruits, white fruits and an impressive layer of acidity. It will age for a good 20 years or more. Expect a full bottle to be less evolved at this stage. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (06/2005) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "No tasting note given." Fat, sweet, rich and deep; at once succulent and seamless, with a wonderfully layered texture and great early appeal. Very full without coming across as weighty. The slow-building finish features substantial sweet tannins. "Shows the magic side of 2001," Franco offers. "It can keep for a long time but it's great right now." 2001 Plumpjack "Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The most evolved, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, appears to be close to full maturity, although it is capable of lasting another 10-15+ years. The creamier of these two wines, it reveals abundant black currant, cedar, licorice, graphite and inky characteristics, medium to full body and a ripe, opulent, spicy personality. (RP)" (06/2011)

2001 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune (Pre-Arrival)

100 points James Suckling: "This is a dense and rich wine with incredible depth and ripeness. Full-bodied and open with layers of dried, ripe fruit. It goes on for minutes on the finish. It's minerally, salty and fabulous. Still holding on. " (09/2015) 95 points John Gilman: "2001 is clearly a great vintage for the Trimbachs, and the ’01 Clos Ste. 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (OWC)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (OWC - 96JD, 96JS, 96RP, 93WS, 92VN) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. It has always sported a wonderful bouquet with well defined citrus-driven fruit, augmented by orange blossom and barley sugar scents, hints of lemon curd in the background. 2001 Tenuta Caparzo "La Casa" Brunello di Montalcino

More concentrated than the normal bottling, it offers notable finesse in its suggestions of flowers, spices, red fruits and well-integrated oak. Deceptively understated, it gives the impression of still having much to say, and a few years of cellaring are recommended. 2001 Arietta "H Block Hudson" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Aromas of plum, currant, black raspberry, cedar, graphite and licorice; as Cheval-Blanc like on the nose as any wine in the range. Then vinous and claret-like on the palate, showing less obvious sweetness than the 2002 but terrific grip. Not at all a plush style but superb structure and a firm spine of acidity give it great penetration. This very tight wine still needs at least a few years of patience and should prove to be among the longest-lived vintages of this bottling to date. (S ...Read More »

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Staggeringly pure notes of creme de cassis, violets, licorice and graphite soar from the glass of this inky/purple-colored wine. Composed of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, and tasting like it is 2-3 years old, it is a stunningly pure, rich, full-bodied, prodigious example of high elevation mountain Cabernet Sauvignon that will not reach full maturity for another 5-7 years, and should age beautifully for another two decades or more. It is a magical wine to smell, taste and contemplate. These impressiv ...Read More »

2001 Schlossgut Diel Dorsheimer Pittermannchen Riesling Auslese

95 points Wine Spectator: "Deceptive concentration and complexity here. Hints of pastry and spices accent the apricot, honey and citrus flavors in this delicate Riesling, while the vibrant acidity cuts through it all like a knife. Drink now through 2020. 25 cases imported. (BS)" (03/2003) Vinous: "Apple jelly, pear nectar and vanilla cream aromas. Juicy and effusively fruity in the mouth, with a Wehlener-Sonnenuhr-like interplay of ripe apple, vanilla and slate. This doesn't quite hold the textural allure of the Goldloch Auslese, but it certainly shows ...Read More »

2001 Gaja "Dagromis" Barolo Back In Stock!
2001 Gaja "Dagromis" Barolo

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full red. Musky, aromatic nose combines redcurrant, tobacco, minerals and smoky oak. Lush and broad but with less buffering extract and grip than the Conteisa or Sperss bottlings. Shows a classic licorice and mineral austerity and finishes with considerable tannic clout. Gromis is a blend that includes the portion of the Cerequio vines facing southeast (Conteisa is from Cerequio vines that face full south) and Gaja's Silio vineyard, also in La Morra. 92+ (ST)" (11/2004) K&L Notes: An amazing B ...Read More »

2001 Pieve di Santa Restituta (Gaja) "Sugarille" Brunello di Montalcino

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright dark red. Highly perfumed aromas of red berries, red cherry, flowers, minerals, gunflint, leather, graphite and spices. Suave, deeply spicy and penetrating, with terrific extract and intensity to the juicy, pure red berry flavors. This compelling Brunello offers a silky texture, superb intensity and captivating inner-mouth perfume, finishing with compelling sweetness of tannins and outstanding breadth and length. Suavissimo! 95+ points. (ST)" (07/2006) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "Sugarille is ...Read More »

2001 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 99RP, 94VN) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2001 Cariad is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, primarily from two of David Abreu’s vineyard holdings in Napa Valley (Madrona Ranch and Thorevilos). Complex notes of burning embers, charcoal, red and black fruits, subtle oak, licorice and cedarwood soar from the glass of this highly perfumed, stunning wine. It has everything going for it, including a flawless, seamless style, remarkable balance, stunning concentration and a finish that lasts nearly a minute. There is an open-knit character that makes it very accessible even though the wine still gives the impression of being a teenager in its developmental time-line. (RP)" (06/2011)
