2000 de Viaud, Lalande-de-Pomerol
Top Pick!
Known for their practice of holding back vintages to maturity, this small but high-quality Lalande-de-Pomerol producer crafts some best-in-class wines that are often tough to find but remarkably rewarding. De Viaud remains a family-run property of the Bielle family, and is a great reference-point for classic claret in the modern era.

92 points Wine Spectator: "Young and rambunctious, intense and concentrated, with a mix of wild berry, currant, smoke, roasted meat, charred oak and ripe currant fruit, supported by firm tannins. Finishes with lead pencil and fresh earth nuances. Needs time. Best from 2005 through 2014. 215 cases made." (10/2003) K&L Notes: Information about the Elevation 1147 from the Winery: "Every year we have the opportunity to take the best of the best grapes and let them stand by themselves, we call this Elevation 1147. Elevation 1147 is always 100% Cabernet Sauv...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and the large format bottle will have helped to preserve freshness.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a medium-bodied, soft, attractive effort with plenty of herbaceousness along with notes of figs, plums, and red currants. Made in an up-front style, it begs to be drunk over the next 7-8 years. (RP)" (12/2003) Wine Spectator: "Smooth and polished, with a mix of mature cedar, currant and cherry-scented fruit, framed by a dash of smoky vanilla- and coconut-shaded oak, but finishing with a complex mix of fruit and oak. (JL)" (09/2004)

Winermaker's Notes: "The grape source is Demostene Ranch located in the Alexander Valley. The vineyard is the oldest Pinot Noir plantation in this region, and was established with a clone which produces small berries and low yields. The soil is a mixture of clay, silt and limestone. The vineyard is dry farmed and within one mile of the Russian River. Demostene Ranch traditionally produces intense wines which possess exceptional fruit definition, combined with a richly textured palate and great length of finish. The particular vineyard characteristics are...

2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. One of the all-time great examples of Lynch Bages, the 2000 is just beginning to drink well yet promises to last for another 20-25+ years. (RP)" (08/...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One can’t say enough about this winery, which may still fly under the radar of most consumers. The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. With full body, a velvety texture, and beautiful weight, richness, and length, this superb wine should evolve, possibly improve for another 15 years. It’s a beauty! (RP)" (06/2010) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Cathiards have made a polished wine with generous fruit. It manages to combine a m...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "No tasting note available." (08/2003)
Price: $89.99

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "By the standards of the average 2000 red, this is still exceptionally young, indeed to the point of being somber and almost taciturn on the earth red and dark berry fruit nose that leads to backward if round medium full flavors that finish with pronounced firmness on the nicely long finale. This will require the better part of a decade to really be at its best." (11/2006)
Price: $189.99

Price: $49.99

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Juicy and tangy—even racy—this shows vibrant black cherry, cream and dried spice aromas and flavors. On the tongue the wine is medium-weight, with toast and anise accents on tart plum fruit. The tangy tannins on the close can use a year or two to resolve, but make it a fine food complement even now." (10/2002)
Price: $49.99

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright ruby-red. Complex nose combines raspberry, black cherry, violet, minerals, mocha and tobacco. Offers a distinctly claret-like texture, with supple flavors of raspberry, leather, minerals and game. Nicely consistent cabernet with a pleasing balance and a sweet middle for the vintage. Finishes with big but lush tannins and very good persistence. (ST)" (06/2003) K&L Notes: Ric Forman is one of the living legends of California winemaking. With a history at Sterling, Newton, Duckhorn, Abreu...

2000 La Parde de Haut Bailly, Pessac-Léognan
Back In Stock!
According to the Wine Spectator: "Aromas of berries, plum and earth follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with light tannins and a medium finish. Second wine of Château Haut-Bailly. Best after 2005." (web only, 2003) According to Clyde this wine is fabulous! Plenty of terroir mixed with a lush mouthfeel. You get the minerals and the ripe fruit flavors on the palate. Superb value. The name La Parde is taken from a parcel on the property that has malbec growing on it. There is a small percentage of malbec in this blend.

2000 Reserve de Léoville-Barton, St-Julien
Back In Stock!
88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very high-toned nose redolent of a Languedoc-Roussillon. Good concentration on the palate. Blackberry, plum and pain grille. Fine acidity, quite modern compared to the Grand Vin. An ebullient second wine. Drink now. Tasted October 2004. (Neal Martin's Wine Journal)" Decanter: "Deep, vivid fruit aromas and well-judged oak. Good vigour in the mouth, and some quirky apricot flavours. " Jancis Robinson: "Deep healthy crimson, very very dense palate. Compact, dense, intriguing nose - this wine actually smells p...

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Well-ripened and well-focused, the currant aromas of this solid Cabernet are decked out in rich, creamy oak and layered notes of cola and sweet loam. Supple and slightly fleshy in feel at entry, then filling the palate with flavors of ripe currants, caramel and a rich, loamy nuance, the wine transcends vintage concerns and is satisfying from front to back. It will improve for three to five years at the least and should hold up for a decade or more of rewarding drinking. *One Star*" (08/2004) Wine Enthusiast: "Shows what a...

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An opaque purple color is followed by dense aromas of black fruits intertwined with earth, camphor, and licorice characteristics. This medium to full-bodied, lusciously-styled port possesses excellent purity, a layered mouthfeel, and a long finish. (RP)" (10/2002) 89 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of currants and plums with hints of earth. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium sweet finish. A refined and balanced young Port. 2000 Gree-Laroque, Bordeaux Supérieur
Back In Stock!
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This garage wine, from a 3.5-acre vineyard planted with 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged on its lees with the famed micro-oxygenation and looked after by the hotshot wine guru from the right bank, Stephane Derenoncourt. This dense purple-colored wine reveals sweet mocha and espresso notes intermixed with cassis and plums. Expressive, rich, medium to full-bodied, jammy, and a total hedonistic turn-on, it must be tasted to be believed. (RP)" (04/2003)

(ST)" (10/2003) Wine Spectator: "Firm and well-done, with focused berry and mineral character throughout. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine and sleek tannins and a long, racy finish. From Jean-Hubert Delon of Las Cases. (JS)" (03/2003) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is a beautiful sleeper of the vintage. Rich and concentrated, it may be the finest Potensac since the 1982. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore (94WE, 93RP, 93ST, 92VN, 90WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Deep and delicious, with an earth-driven nose that conveys quality. Chunky plum pervades the chewy, dark palate, which offers a gorgeous mouthfeel and admirable depth. Only on the finish do you get a slight hint of oak. Overall it’s entirely solid and very likable, but as good as it is, it’s not quite on the level of the ’98 or ’99, which were amazing. *Cellar Selection* (MS)" (11/2003)
Starting Bid: $300.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 La Conseillante, Pomerol (97JD, 96RP, 95JG, 95WS, 94DC, (90-93ST), 92JS, 92VN). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2000 La Conseillante is brilliant (this was tasted from magnum) and while mature, is still youthful and vibrant. Deep ruby/purple colored and loaded with notions of currants, plums, chocolate, Asian spice, and incense, it offers full-bodied richness, fine tannin, and a silky, elegant, yet concentrated style on the palate. This beauty can be drunk anytime over the coming two decades or more." (02/2018)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Conn Creek "Anthology" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (92WE). Wine Enthusiast: "Absolutely delicious, a fat, sumptuous wine that flatters the palate from beginning to end. Smells plush, brimming with currants and fancy oak trimmings, and turns lush and complex with fruit in the mouth. Best to drink it soon, in the fullness of youth." (06/2004)
Starting Bid: $180.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Pavie, St-Emilion (100JD, 100RP, 97DC, 97VN, 97WS, 95JS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Just beginning to come around and strut its enormous potential, this wine at age 15 has been evolving like a glacier. The wine has an inky, opaque, plum/purple color and a stunningly rich nose of mulberries, bramble berries, blackberries, licorice and incense as well as touches of toast and graphite. Fabulously concentrated and full-bodied, with a multidimensional mouthfeel, this profound Pavie is in mid-adolescence. It should evolve and continue to drink well for at least another 30-40 years. This is clearly the first compelling effort made by the Perse family. (RP)" (08/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan (96RP, 94JS, 94WE, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine stands out as a sensational effort just a few years away from full maturity. A 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine displays loads of scorched earth and smoky barbecue scents along with blueberry, black raspberry and black currant. The wine is expansive, has a savory, broad palate and a full-bodied mouthfeel, yet possesses vivid purity and uplift. The tannins are still present, but they are sweet and well-integrated. This wine should hit full maturity in another year or two and last for at least 20 more years. (RP)" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Lancaster Estate Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 Proprietary Red Estate possesses aromas and flavors of black cherries, plums, currants, and a touch of new oak. The tannin is firmer and the finish more angular than in the 1999. (RP)" (08/2002)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Domaine du Caillou "Les Quartz" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95WS, 94RP, 93VN). Wine Spectator: "Thanks to its beautiful polish this manages to beguile despite a powerful core of raspberry ganache, sweet toast, mineral, violet, mocha, tobacco and aged fruitcake. Long, juicy finish resonates with pure, dark, vivid fruit. Beautiful. (JM, Web-2004)"
Starting Bid: $45.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2000 Dalla Valle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93WS, 90RP, 90ST). Wine Spectator: "A wonderful display of fruit purity, with floral, plum, grapey currant and black cherry fruit that's well-focused and supported by firm tannins. Finishes with a push of blackberry and lead pencil. Rich and concentrated while remaining elegant and refined. (JL)" (11/2003)
Starting Bid: $280.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac (93WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Very solid, this sports lots of fresh bay, pepper and rosemary notes amid a slightly chunky core of black currant and fig paste flavors. The finish picks up a prominent charcoal edge, but this is warm and inviting overall. Like a cabin hideaway, this is pleasantly rustic. (JM, Web-2016)"
Starting Bid: $270.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Sine Qua Non "Heels Over Head" Syrah. Often considered Sine Qua Non's most rare wine, Heels Over Head was a joint project between Manfred Krankl and Grateful Palate's Dan Philips. Krankl gave one 225L barrel to Phillips to bring up in American Oak, and under 300 bottles were produced to be sold directly to Grateful Palate customers. This is a singular and collectible bottling from two of Syrah's great champions.
Starting Bid: $2,000.00

Bid on this magnum of 2000 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (1.5L) (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied, and rich, it has hit its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for another 20 or more years. (RP)" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $290.00

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Barolo Carobric (magnum) is an exotic, full-bodied wine loaded with scorched earth, licorice, tar and smoke, all of which add considerable nuance to a massive core of fruit. This hulking, seamless Barolo is at least a few years from early maturity and should continue to drink well for many, many years. It is simply magnificent. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. (AG)" (06/2011) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderfully fresh and floral, with strawberry, raspberry and cut cedar aromas. Full-bodied, with refi...

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Fattoria Le Pupille "Saffredi" Maremma Toscana (94RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 is another wow wine. Sensual and elegant through and through, the 2000 emerges from the glass with tons of ripe dark fruit, crushed flowers, raspberries, earthiness, worn-in leather and licorice. It possesses marvelous depth and intensity in its fruit, but with a level of complexity and nuance in the bouquet that completes the wine in magnificent style. The round, enveloping finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. (AG)" (05/2011)
Starting Bid: $72.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93WE, 92WS). Wine Enthusiast: "A bright-edged wine, redolent of Bing cherry, raspberry, blackberry, anise, spice, cedar and herb flavors. Tannins are powdery, firm and ripe. They frame the wine in a toasty embrace, ending with a plush finish. Consistently a benchmark from the heartland of California Cabernet." (12/2003)
Starting Bid: $371.00

Bid on this magnum of 2000 Cheval Blanc, St-Émilion (1.5L) (100VN, 98JD, 97RP). Vinous: "A wine of exquisite aromatic depth and grace, the 2000 Cheval Blanc is fully captivating. All the elements fall into place in an effortless, gracious wine. It’s frankly hard to move past the 2000 Cheval, because at this point, I want nothing to compete with it. (AG)" (11/2017)
Starting Bid: $1,360.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac (94JS, 93WS, 92RP, 91ST). James Suckling: "Some call it the second wine of the great first growth of Latour. But it’s a unique wine on its own. It shows blueberry, raspberry and other dark-berry character. It’s so round and delicious, why wait?" (04/2014)
Starting Bid: $1,251.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Arnaldo Caprai "Collepiano" Sagrantino di Montefalco (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano is, in theory, the regular bottling, but the wine makes a joke of the term. A deep ruby red, intense, penetrating, and expansive on the nose with potent raspberry/ red currant fruit, richly spiced by the oak, its deep, concentrated, and powerful flavors, almost chewy in their richness but velvety in their texture, give an exceptional continuity and length. Drink: 2006-2018. (DT)" (04/2004)
Starting Bid: $70.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (97JD, 97RP, 95WS, 93JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The plushest, most ostentatious and dramatic of all the Leovilles in 2000, this wine is already sumptuous, displaying some nuances in its huge nose of vanilla bean, black chocolate, jammy black cherries, cassis, and graphite in a flamboyant style. Opulent, savory, rich, and full-bodied, it is a head-turning, prodigious wine and a complete contrast to the extracted behemoth of Leoville Barton and the backward, classic Leoville Las Cases. The Poyferre’s low acidity, sweet tannin and an already gorgeous mouthfeel make it a wine to drink now as well as over the next 25 or more years. (RP)" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $165.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Rauzan-Sègla, Margaux (94DC, 94VN, 90RP). Vinous: "The 2000 Rauzan-Ségla was the only vintage that I procured myself out in the market because of many fond memories. I am so glad I did fill in the gap because I feel it is a rather overlooked gem. It has a gorgeous bouquet, a little backward at first but then opening with black cherries, blueberry jam and hints of Provençal herbs, though none of the saddle leather I noticed back in 2010. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, nigh perfect acidity and a rich, quite grippy finish. The estate prefers the 2001 but I find this possesses more ambition. (NM)" (04/2019)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95JS, 95WE, 94VN, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. (RP)" (08/2011)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (97RP, 94VN, 94W&S, 94WE, 93DC, 93JS, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Blended of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2000 Cos d'Estournel is deep garnet in color with a touch of brick and sporting a lot of tertiary evolution on the nose. It leaps from the glass with opulent sandalwood, Chinese five spice, cigar box and leather scents over a core of prunes, baked cherries, dried mulberries and eucalyptus plus a touch of potpourri. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with fragrant fruitcake and exotic spice layers, framed by wonderfully plush tannins and a refreshing line, finishing with an exhilarating menthol lift. (LPB)" (11/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (100JS, 100WS, 99JD, 98DC, 98RP, 95ST, 95W&S). James Suckling: "A classic Las Cases with masses of mineral, floral and blueberry character. Full and chewy, with so much power. It’s just opening now." (04/2014)
