1999 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

Jancis Robinson: "Dark crimson. Dense and sweet and rich with a little bit of dust. Not as refreshing as Les Forts tasted just beforehand but much more dramatic and successful than most 1999s. Long and sweet. 17/20" (06/2009) Wine Spectator: "A delicate and refined red. Fresh aromas of raspberries and minerals follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a delicate, refreshing finish. (JS)" (03/2002) K&L Notes: Long-time K&L favorite Pichon-Lalande made a killer ’99. The blend is 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Fran ...Read More »

1999 Clarke, Listrac

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Clarke is an elegant, medium-bodied, dark ruby-colored effort with pleasant currant fruit intermixed with some earth and spice. It is low in acidity, with slight tannin and some sweetness. (RP)" (04/2002) K&L Notes: Absolutely elegant and delicious now — almost twenty years old. This property used to make very rustic, tannic wines, but the quality has improved vastly since the early 90s.

1999 Margaux, Margaux

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Chateau Margaux has been the standout First Growth since I first tasted the wine from barrel. Now reaching its plateau of maturity, it has an understated nose at first, armed with impressive mineralité with a gorgeous graphite seam. The definition and precision here is top class. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth in texture, very harmonious and assured, surprisingly with some new oak still to be fully assimilated into the wine. The signature Margaux traits of crushed black cherries and violets comes ...Read More »

1999 E. Guigal "Brune et Blonde" Côte-Rotie

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(bottled in January of 2002) Bright ruby-red. Superripe, expressive aromas of raspberry, coffee, roasted herbs and pepper; shows a slightly porty surmaturite. Rich, round and lush; a wonderfully ripe and full-blown yet fresh wine with substantial, solid tannins and superb persistence. This has a lot of all the key elements, including acidity. A superb vintage for this wine - and there are more than 27,000 cases of this stuff! (ST)" (01/2003) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a juicy core of macerate ...Read More »

1999 Pibran, Pauillac

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Now, it exhibits a dense ruby color in addition to a classic Pauillac nose of cedarwood, black currants, underbrush, and new oak. A dense, plush, forward, precocious offering, it is meant to be drunk upon release, and should age nicely for a decade or more. (RP)" (04/2001) K&L Notes: Perched upon a 17-acre in a hilltop in the famed Pauillac region, Château Pibran boasts such prestigious neighbors as Mouton-Rothschild and Pontet-Canet. The estate dates back to the start of the 20th century. Its well-drained gravel site ...Read More »

1999 Haut-Batailley, Pauillac

Wine Spectator: " Fresh and vivid red, with floral and berry character throughout. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a focused, clean aftertaste. A fine claret. Best after 2004. (JS)" (03/2002) K&L Notes: The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The nose displays raspberry and black licorice aromas. On the palate you get really pure fruit and integrated tannins. Plump, attractive red raspberry fruit and super balance. Not overly extracted. Very, very exciting wine that should be an excellent value.

1999 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
1999 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bottled 1999 (a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc) is as profound as I predicted a year and a half ago. It boasts an opaque purple color along with a gorgeously pure nose of creme de cassis, charcoal, and floral characteristics. The wine is opulent, dense, and rich, with exceptional purity, a viscous texture, and impressive underlying tannin that frames its large but elegant personality. Not surprisingly, this is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2 ...Read More »

1999 Pavie, St-Emilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has a very youthful color and seems to be close to full maturity, without the density of the 1998, or its successor, the perfect 2000. It has abundant foresty notes, plenty of spice box, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, some background toasty oak, medium to full body and sweet tannin. A very delicious wine, it offers a complex and fragrant style. It should be drunk over the next 12-15 years. (RP)" (08/2015) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full red-ruby. 1999 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served at the Ducru offline in London, the ’99 is a Saint Julien that over-achieves in this mediocre growing season. Although it is slightly muffled on the nose at first, its opens up nicely with red-berried fruit, sandalwood, leather, cedar and a touch of spice. Good vigour and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and very well balanced, gentle grip, almost Burgundian in texture thanks to its lovely, fleshy finish although that does not detract from its structure. This is a lovely, caressing ’99 in context o ...Read More »

1999 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice. The dark plum color does not possess the saturation of a vintage such as 2000, but this is pure seduction in a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, nicely-textured effort. It is virtually impossible to duplicate such a wine anywhere else in the world. (RP)" (04/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of raspb ...Read More »

An extremely rich and majestic nose with savory notes of cocoa, smoked mushroom, forest floor earthiness, grilled hazelnuts, orange marmalade, spiced cherries, plums and spiced bread. Wildly complex! The wine is soft and seductive, with cherry and licorice characteristics discernable in the flavors. (RP)" (04/2002) Wine Spectator: "Aromas of plum and sweet basil. 1999 Brane Cantenac, Margaux

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the chateau with Henri Lurton. This has a very intense nose: much more opulent and ravishing than you would expect from a ’99. There is a strange aroma, sort of, sage and onion inflecting the ripe red-berried fruits but it clears up to offer more orthodox scents of saddle-leather and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied, quite a gutsy Margaux, sinewy although perhaps lacking a bit of finesse towards the linear finish. (RP)" (04/2002) K&L Notes: Very aromatic, Graves-style wine with earthy and mineral hints on the nose. Crushed berries on the nose and palate. With aeration it develops a lovely candied quality that is irresistible. Clearer in colour than the Grand Mayne, this has a fresh, well-defined, feminine bouquet and aromas of blackberry, bilberry and a little mint. It has a lightness, a deftness of touch that is endearing. The palate is medium-bodied, very good weight, a slightly lactic/chocolate note on the entry, moderate acidity, nice grip but nice vice-like like the 1989 or 1990. Vivid, nuanced and structured, the 1999 is a wine to cellar for another 5-10 years at a minimum to allow the flavors to flesh out. Readers lucky enough to own the 1999 who can wait a few years will be very happy. (AG) 95+" (02/2014)

1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion (1.5L) (94RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Monbousquet exhibits a port-like bouquet of super-ripe black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with scents of coffee, tobacco, and vanilla. Tipping the scales at a whopping 14% alcohol (extremely high for Bordeaux), this wine, which spends 18 months in 100% new oak and is bottled unfined and unfiltered, is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was cropped at an amazingly low 30 hectoliters per hectare. It possesses an amazing texture, a mid-palate that you could get lost in, and a sensational 40-45 second finish. The exotic aromas, incredible texture, and abundant fruit are reminiscent of Pomerol's renowned micro-cuvee, Le Pin. The 1999 is even better from bottle than it was from cask. It is a remarkable effort for the vintage. (RP)" (04/2002)

1999 Turley "Juvenile" California Zinfandel

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Zinfandel Juveniles (previous called Young Vines) (450 cases, 15.2% alcohol) was made from tiny parcels of replanted vines in the Hayne, Moore, and Duarte vineyards. Turley Cellars does not want to blend these younger vines with wine from the older vines. A sensational effort, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a knock-out nose of blackberries and spice, an opulent texture, and a superb finish. (RP)" (10/2001)
