1999 Lestage Simon, Haut-Médoc

Cha^teau Lestage Simon is a lovely embodiment of a Cru Bourgeois. Located at Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, which is beside the great vineyard of Saint-Este`phe, this profits from an outstanding terroir which is complex and diverse, and whose uniqueness is the basis of the chateau’s wines. The situation of the vines vary considerably. Some grapes derive from sandy soils along the riverbank, others from limestone and clay-limestone soils further inland. The Cha^teau produces a supple Haut-Me´doc, whose structure, richness, and balance create excellent cellari ...

1999 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served at the Ducru offline in London, the ’99 is a Saint Julien that over-achieves in this mediocre growing season. Although it is slightly muffled on the nose at first, its opens up nicely with red-berried fruit, sandalwood, leather, cedar and a touch of spice. Good vigour and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and very well balanced, gentle grip, almost Burgundian in texture thanks to its lovely, fleshy finish although that does not detract from its structure. This is a lovely, caressing ’99 in context o ...

1999 Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (3L)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the finest Champagnes I have ever brought to my lips, the 1999 Cristal bursts from the glass with fresh hazelnut and apple scents. Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish. Louis Roederer does not display a disgorgement date or consumer friendly lot number on its non-vintage Brut. This is regrettable as it has consistently been one of the finer bottlings in this category. (PR)" (12/20 ...

1999 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

87-90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep fresh ruby-red. Brooding aromas of currant syrup, licorice, naphtha and tobacco leaf. Fairly intense flavors similar to the aromas. Still quite youthfully tight, but offers solid concentration and very good length. Just a hint of greenness on the end; the firm tannins reach the teeth. (ST)" (06/2002) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley exhibits a deep, saturated ruby/purple color. 1999 Chateau de la Gardine Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape displays an impressive constitution, with full body, considerable structure, and admirable delineation. Spice box, vanillin, and black fruits show through, but the wine is big, backward, and needing 2-3 years of cellaring, somewhat atypical for a 1999. It should last for 15+ years. (RMP)" (10/2000) Wine Spectator: "Good flavors, with licorice and chalk. Medium-bodied, with nice red and black fruit and a firm tannin structure. Intense, crisp aftertaste. Dr ...

Kirwan makes serious wine now. (JS)" (03/2002) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The aromatic, oaky, modern-styled 1999 Kirwan boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as considerable size, depth, and muscle (atypical for the vintage), abundant texture, and loads of flavor (primarily licorice, cassis, and earth). Firms up on the finish, with rich, dense tannins. Patience required." (10/2002) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 300+ cases of Merus's 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon (the second vintage produced by proprietors Mark Herold and Erika Gottl) which tips the scales with a well-hidden 14.8% alcohol. Bright, spicy flavors of currant, currant leaf and spices, with a sweet, creamy quality in the middle. Finishes with dusty, fairly ripe tannins. (ST)" (12/2002) Wine Spectator: "Complex, with a mix of earth, mineral, dried currant, leather and dusty, cedary oak. Full-bodied and youthful, this is a bit drying on the finish, yet drinking very well. (JL, Web-2009)"

1999 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Connoisseurs Guide: "How do you spell controversial? With one of the few split scores ever given by Connoisseurs' Guide. Most tasters loved the power, loved the tightly focused black cherry, slightly dried currant fruit, loved the boldness and the way there is a sense of polish developing in the background, loved the structure that promises to keep the wine going for a couple of decades yet. The dissenting voice questions whether the higher alcohol and the slight bit of stalkiness at the edges will eat into the wine's aging potential. It is sti ...

1999 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Vinous: "Healthy dark red. Wonderfully complex, vibrant nose combines cherry, gravelly minerality, smoke, leather and truffley underbrush. Offers a compelling combination of sweetness of fruit and energy; here a subtle hint of herbs just adds to the appeal of this densely packed, utterly fresh wine. Finishes with very suave tannins and terrific lingering perfume. This firmly structured cool-vintage beauty should continue to evolve positively for at least another decade. 1999 Pibran, Pauillac

A dense, plush, forward, precocious offering, it is meant to be drunk upon release, and should age nicely for a decade or more. Wine Spectator: " Fresh and vivid red, with floral and berry character throughout. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a focused, clean aftertaste. A fine claret. Best after 2004. With such a high percentage of Merlot one would think the wine would be soft and open. In fact the 1999 is firmer and shows more structure than in years past. This is typical of the vintage. Bid on this 4-half-bottle lot of 1999 Chateau Pajzos Esszencia Tokaji (375ml) (100RP, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Tokaji Esszencia was eked out without press over three weeks from aszu berries and aged for two years in Hungarian oak. Bottled in 375 and 500ml, it has a bouquet that rivets you to the spot: marmalade and dried quince, then nutmeg, beeswax and even a scent of hickory. It is very mercurial in the glass. Coming back, there is a touch of fresh rose petals and lavender. The palate is incredibly intense, and it is not the sweetness here that is striking, a modest 460 grams per liter, but the acidity -- 19.9 grams per liter. Therefore, it is incredibly fresh and vigorous, almost so that you do not notice that enormous amount of residual slipping down the throat and threatening to overload the senses. It takes some getting used to, but strangely, once inured to that acidity, then it becomes a much easier Esszencia to imbibe. Circa the year 2250, when Earth is

It is one of the superstars of the vintage. The wine is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. It boasts a staggering bouquet of violets and other spring flowers intermixed with licorice, black currants, and subtle wood. Only 50% of the production made it into the grand vin. Importer's notes: "Tony Hwang’s purchase of Kiràlyudvar resulted from a visit to Budapest that year, when he drank a Tokaji Aszú recommended by a sommelier. The wine, with its profound identity and razor-sharp balance, made such an impression that Tony drove more than 200 kilometers the next day to Tokaj, where he discovered Kiràlyudvar (pronounced Kee-RYE-oohd-var). Just a few months after his visit, Tony purchased this estate, which for centuries had supplied Imperial wine to the Hapsburgs. The famed Tokaj winemaker Ivan Szepsy became Tony’s partner, helping him rehabilitate the vineyards, while the château itself was rebuilt. Today, Tony is rekindling the legacy of this providential wine region. But he’s not stopping there, having recognized, that Tokaj’s historic grape varieties, with their viscous intensity and bright acidity, could produce world-class dry, demi-sec, and sparkling wines...Made solely from the fr
