1997 York Creek "Meritage" Spring Mountain District Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

This elegant, balanced claret from an outstanding vintage has been perfectly aged in York Creek's cellars. The nose offers compelling scents of cherry liquor, cedar and damp earth. The body of the wine is seamless with flavors of black cherry, dark plum and currant all deftly balanced. This is very fresh and alive with an overall sense of finesse and proportion, and a subtle but persistent finish showing very fine tannins. Cathy Corison fashioned this for those who favor harmony and balance over sheer power. 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 14% ...

1997 Bel Air Lagrave, Moulis-en-Medoc (1.5L)

This little-known property makes super-value, old-school wines. Clive Coates sings its praises in the Wines of Bordeaux: "The vineyard, in the process of being enlarged, lies on the Grand Poujeaux plateau. The estate, which has belonged to the same family for 150 years, is run on biological lines, the wine being matured in one-third new oak. There is more character and less of a four-square tendency here than is found at many of its neighbors. A wine to watch."

1997 Dow's Vintage Port

95 points Wine Spectator: "Warm and inviting, with a worn leather feel to the mix of dried anise, espresso, bittersweet cocoa, steeped fig and mulled currant notes, which move seamlessly together through the buckwheat-edged finish. There's plenty here to like now, but this has ample energy for additional development. (JM, Web Only-2017)" 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Mouthfilling and round, without any sharp edges, but this wine remains extremely firm and dense, with several decades of life ahead of it. Dried fig, chocolate and black licorice flavors only ...

1997 Hector Macbeth (Glenfiddich) 21 Year Old "Hepburn's Choice" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

There's just no way to describe the feeling of coming across a splendid old cask of Wardhead (trade name for teaspooned Glenfiddich) like this one. You'd expect with the incredible value that these casks offer we'd see more of this type of whisky on the market, but I think suppliers are scared to work with something labelled as a blended malt whisky even when they know it's actually only blended on paper. This magical cask bottled as "Hector Macbeth" was actually distilled at the famous Glenfiddich distillery in Spring of 1997. It was filled into a used ...

1997 Macduff 21 Year Old "Hepburn's Choice" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

The lovely Macduff Distillery - sold locally under the Glen Deveron label - is one of those tragic cases of great malt lost behind the blends. The owners don't spend much time making a fuss of the little distillery, which was built in 1958. Not much of the whisky is sold as malt and mostly it's marketed in France. The distillery located in Banffshire was a crucial element in the popular William Lawson Blend, but recently the owners have revitalized the Glen Deveron brand with a posh new look and some expensive age stated offerings. Despite the great pack ...

1997 Ben Nevis 21 Year Old "Old Malt Cask" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

Ben Nevis sits just at the base of its namesake, Scotland's highest mountain. A coastal distillery in the Western Highlands, Ben Nevis draws its water from the Allt a'Mhuilinn which originates from two pools, Coire Leis and Coire na'Ciste, which are both sited a good way up the mountain. The distillery was founded in 1825, by the gloriously named 'Long John' MacDonald, for whom the renowned Long John blended Scotch was named. After Long John's death in 1856, ownership was passed down to Donald McDonald, his son. In 1989, the distillery was sold to the Ja ...

1997 Benrinnes 20 Year Old "Signatory" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

For people who have been following us for a while, you'll remember this special whisky. We've purchased several of these and the 1995 version that's now completely gone. It was always neck and neck with the wonderful 1995 Imperials, which is now 3 times the old price in the warehouse. I was extremely concerned that Signatory would raise the price of this exceptional whisky to unobtainable levels, but after tasting it again from a particularly good cask I knew we had to have this special whisky and keep it reasonable. 1997 L'Encantada 20 Year Old "Bellair #36" Bas-Armagnac (750ml) (Previously $100)

Independent bottler L'Encantada understands what Armagnac lovers want because that's exactly what they are. This group of Armagnac-loving friends realized that some of the region's small estates were throwing away legendary eau-de-vie to blends made by the big négociants. They offered those estates a premium to retain the stocks for bottling as single casks at full strength. Many of these estates had never bottled Armagnac nor had any interested in marketing their precious eau-de-vie. Our friends at L'Encantada realized that the soul of Armagnac exists i ...

There is now a 3-5 day cold maceration, indigenous yeasts are employed during fermentation, and new oak casks are used. The excellent 1997 St.-Joseph La Sensonne (from a hillside vineyard behind the village of Mauves) is a more modern-styled wine than was produced in the past. 1997 Osborne Vintage Port

91 points Vinous: "The 2011 Pinot Noir Estate Block M (formerly Carrie's) is endowed with serious energy, power and structure. One of the more austere wines in the Melville range, the Block M is much less expressive today than the other 2011s. Ideally, the Block M is best cellared for another year or two. Expressive savory notes add complexity and distinction on the finish. Greg Brewer describes the berries in this site as tiny in 2011. The stems were ripe enough for Brewer to use 60% whole clusters." 1997 Livingston Moffett "13th Anniversary" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Planted in 1969, the Moffet Vineyard fruit was a source for great wines from Chappellet, Spring Mountain and Burgess in the 1970's. It's hillside location on the western slopes of the Napa Valley, deep volcanic soils and high, well ventilated trellising have combined to produce grapes of superior quality year after year. The vineyard is small, only eight acres, and yields are low due to rigorous pruning and crop control. Production is only 904 cases for the 1997, which shows a deep core of black currant fruit, mild tannins and an elegant, silky texture.
