1990 L'Encantada 27 Year Old "Domaine le Parre #18" Tenarèze Armagnac (750ml)

The unusual Domaine Le Parre is the first producer in Tenarèze to be uncovered by the crew at L'Encantada. This is a beautiful little estate situated on a plateau, which boasts boulbène soils and was planted to mostly Baco with a small percentage of Ugni Blanc. The domaine stopped cultivating vines in 1995 and was famous for having a giant barrel fashioned from an old train car. While the domaine's eau-de-vie were top notch, the heavier clay soils resulted in eau-de-vie that need extra time to truly become expressive. But after about 20 years, it's clear ...

1990 Port Dundas 28 Year Old "Sovereign" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Grain Scotch Whisky (750ml)

Built in 1811, Port Dundas grew throughout the 19th and early 20th century by absorbing neighboring producers. It quickly became Scotland's largest distillery. During its long history on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow, this grain whisky powerhouse provided much of the juice for the Johnnie Walker and White Horse blended whiskies. With Diageo's expansion and modernization of Cameronbridge in the early 2000s, production at Port Dundas ceased, and in 2011 the landmark site was completely demolished. That closure makes this 28 year old sin ...

1990 Ravenswood "Pickberry" Sonoma Mountain Bordeaux Blend

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Pickberry is more oaky than the 1991, due no doubt to the additional year of aging in cask. It has a minty nose intermingled with aromas of sweet cassis. Opulent and rich with seemingly less tannin, this super-concentrated, expansively rich wine should be drinkable at an earlier age than the 1991. (RP)" (10/1993)

1990 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Le Corton Grand Cru

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: " A complex nose of earth, leather, game and very ripe, in fact hints of over ripe pinot fruit leading to still firmly structured flavors are underpinned by curiously dusty, chalky tannins with outstanding length. In many '90s, the fruit will never outlast the structure but here the tannins are integrated with the sappy and mouth coating flavors and finish. The only nit is that the wood is not subtle and while not dominant, if it hasn't melted into the essence of the wine by now, it probably will always display a trac ...

1990 Fleury "Symphonie d'Europe" Extra Brut Champagne

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Extra Brut Symphonie d’Europe (Pinot Noir) opens with the most extraordinary bouquet. Smoke, graphite, apricot jam and honeysuckle all burst from the glass. Floral notes develop later, adding lift and freshness, but this remains a rich, full-bodied wine endowed with stunning power and plenty of unbridled intensity. Honey, almonds and flowers are some of the many nuances that are wrapped into the layered, textured finish. This is yet another great showing from Fleury. Disgorgement date: June 9, 2011. Anti ...

Give it time. (JS)" (08/2000) 93 points John Gilman: "The 1990 Pichon-Lalande is a very fine example of the vintage. The deep, complex and vibrant nose delivers a classy mélange of dark berries, coffee, fresh herb tones, cigar smoke, a fine base of dark soil tones and plenty of smoky, toasty new oak. 1990 Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "1990 was the first vintage (4,756 cases produced) and one of the most abundant before the replanting became essential because of phylloxera, and was again made at Robert Pepi. However, the percentage of Cabernet Franc jumped to 10% in the final blend. Mia Klein, who worked with Tony Soter, was part of the winemaking team. This wine performed beautifully, and had that Château Margaux-like finesse, elegance and richness. Beautiful blackcurrant notes, graphite, rose petal and licorice, were all present in this deep ...

1990 Latour, Pauillac

100 points Wine Spectator: "This is one of my favorite wines ever. Full-bodied, with layers of silky fruit and masses of currant, mineral and berry character. Amazing. It's a wine with perfect structure, perfect strength. It's 1961 Latour in modern clothes. It's hard not to drink it now. (JS)" (02/2005) 98-99 points James Suckling: "The quality of the tannins and density of fruit is truly beautiful. This is so focused, with purity and beauty. 1990 Shinshu Mars Komagatake 27 Year Single Malt Japanese Whisky (750ml)

The Mars distillery is very well regarded in Japan and is easily considered the "super third" after the famous Suntory and Nikka distilleries. They don't focus exclusively on traditional single malt and are prone to experiment. They only produce whisky in the winter months so production is very small. The Komagatake is their ultra-rare, four-barrel single malt. Three of the four barrels are from 1988 or earlier, while the fourth is from 1990. Only 1,286 bottles were produced, for which the distillery holds a lottery prior to release. This is the Japanese ...

1990 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This showed better than expected. It has a fine, eucalyptus nose complemented by fruitcake, bar leaf and a touch of cedar…certainly demonstrating more freshness and vigour than the ’91. The palate is medium-bodied with a very fine structure, firm tannins, very youthful. A little more depth than the ‘Roberson’ bottle. Very lithe and rounded towards finish with touches of allspice and eucalyptus. I like the ‘coolness’ here, whereas other vintages are marred by excessive heat. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon is the first Newton Cabernet to have an extended maceration of 25-35 days and to include an important percentage of Cabernet Franc in the final blend. With a huge nose of chocolate, cedar, and cassis, this rich, full-bodied, spectacular wine offers unbelievably concentrated flavors, firm, sweet tannins, and enough acidity to give it grip and delineation. It is unfiltered. (RP)" (10/1993)

Supple enough to be drunk now, it promises to last for 10-15 years. The Terrabianca estate has benefited from significant financial investments, and the results are superb wines, which, in my opinion, are underpriced given the exceptional qualitative level. However, a bottle tasted, of all places, in Seoul, Korea in February, was only a few points short of perfection. However, this represents the finest bottle that I have encountered. The nose is complex with red cherries, allspice and sous-bois, tertiary scents developing as it opens in the glass. Two thousand, six-bottle cases will be released in February, 1994. The wine offers a saturated, dark purple color, and a rich, spicy, oaky nose backed up by generous quantities of jammy blackcurrants. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 98ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Chateau Margaux has turned into a sensational wine that eclipses both the 1988 and 1989...and then some. It has a gorgeous, ethereal bouquet with sumptuous red berry fruit, leather, camphor and licorice—it is the kind of nose in which you just immerse yourself. Is there a hint of brettanomyces here? If there is, I don't really care. The palate is soft and sensual with incredible depth. Fleshy and corpulent for Chateau Margaux, and yet surfeit with breeding and finesse, there are layers or red fruit, kirsch, sage and fig, later tobacco and cloves. Still inky/blue/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a gorgeously sweet, pure nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and a hint of wet rocks. The wine is full-bodied, plush, and expansive with impressive levels of glycerin and purity as well as an endearing texture. Remarkably fresh for a 26 year-old wine, the 1990 Collection captures the Krug house style at its very best. Floral notes meld into hints of apricot, chamomile, orchard fruit, vanillin and sweet spices. On the palate, the 1990 is creamy, vivid and super-expressive, but what is most intriguing is how fresh the Collection is relative to Vintage Champagne, which has always been a heavier, more oxidative wine. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Pichon-Longueville Baron has always been one of my benchmark wines, one that never ceases to perform. Now at 27 years of age, it is clearly at its peak, and what a wondrous thing it is. Now showing some bricking on the rim, the bouquet is utterly sublime, with red berries, cedar, touches of graphite, crushed rose petals and incense. You just want to become enveloped by these aromas. The palate is perfectly balanced, perhaps not as structured as it once showed since the tannins have mellowed, but what you get is a Pauillac relishing its secondary phase, which is almost Burgundy-like in terms of mouthfeel. Suffused with tension, it gains weight in the mouth toward the slightly tart finish. It is a Pichon Baron that only knows how to give sophisticated drinking pleasure. I once wrote that Pichon Baron is better than many 1990 First Growth, and that is a statement I have no
