1985 Baraillon 33 Year Old K&L Exclusive Vintage Bas-Armagnac (750ml)

If there were ever a romantic ideal for French countryside distillation, the Baraillons are it. Out in the middle of nowhere, there's nothing glossed over or touristic about their operation - they are farmers, pure and simple. David and I absolutely fell in love with this father/daughter team even though they hardly said a word to us the entire time we tasted (they let their booze speak for itself). This single barrel 1985 brandy is one of the finest spirits we tasted on the entire trip. A mix of Ugni Blanc and Baco, the nose is absolutely hypnotizing - ...

1985 Taylor Vintage Port

93 points John Gilman: "I have had this wine a number of times out of half bottle over the last few years, and it is a lovely drink in the smaller-sized format. However, in 750 ml. it is not even remotely near ready. The nose is deep and still rather reticent in this size, reluctantly offering up a fine mix of cassis, black cherry, tobacco, a bit of tar, violets, smoke and spicy wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and very well-delineated, with a rock solid core of fruit currently buttoned up tight behind a wall of ripe tannin. The finish is long ...

1985 Graham's Vintage Port

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. (RP)" (01/1989) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with intense aromas of blackberry, licorice and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with superrefined tannins. Long and caressing. Very youthful. Will improve for a long time. This ...

1985 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Ripe aromas of plum, currant, lead pencil and milk chocolate. Sweet but penetrating and gripping, with lovely clarity of flavor and terrific thrust. Classic claret, with lovely fruit and a very long, ripely tannic finish. A compelling example from this very elegantly styled vintage. (ST)" (07/2002) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a gorgeous example that may well represent a more modern-day clone of the splendid 1953. Dark ruby/garnet with an open-knit, complex, ripe ...

1985 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

93 points John Gilman: "The decade of the 1980s was a remarkable stretch for Château Haut-Bailly and the 1985 is another outstanding wine from this stunning string of wines. The superb and very perfumed nose offers up an expressive blend of black cherries, red plums, menthol, a touch of citrus, cigar ash, a lovely base of gravelly soil tones, black truffles and a bit of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and utterly suave on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, perfect focus and balance and a very long, complex and softly tannic ...

1985 Prieure Lichine, Margaux (mid shoulder fill, slightly depressed cork)

1985 Warre's Vintage Port

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ruby-colored, with grape, dark chocolate and plum. Full and chewy. Tannins are still there and need to mellow. Medium-sweet and grapey. A little one-dimensional still, but impressive. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. (JS, Web Only-2008)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop... they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1 ...

1985 Niebaum-Coppola "Rubicon" Napa Valley Proprietary Red

Wine Spectator: "Concentrated and earthy, this is a full-bodied, moderately tannic but complex wine, from the earthy, spicy aromas through the ripe plum and anise flavors and minerallike finish." (11/1990) K&L Notes: Lovers of Inglenook's old wines will recognize the name Niebaum, which refers to that winery's founder, a sea captain named Gustave Niebaum. Francis Coppola acquired much of the property and began reconstructing the estate back in the mid-1970s. Located in Rutherford, this is an exemplary place for Bordeaux varietals in California. 1985 La Tour Figeac, St-Emilion (1.5L)

From the importer: "Chateau La Tour Figeac owes its name to a tower which still existed on the grounds at the end of the 19th century. Lying beside the same road as Chateau Cheval Blanc to the east, Chateau Figeac to the south, and next to Pomerol on the west, it occupies a magnificent position in the Saint-Emilion graves and ancient sands area. With the object of improving the quality of the production, each wine is aged in an air-conditioned cellar in barrels made of oak from different forest areas until the wines are finally assembled ready for bottli ...

1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline
Bid on this bottle of 1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline (100RP, 97VN, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the all-time great La Moulines, this still youthful and unevolved wine does not have the tannic ferocity of the 1988, or the sheer force and intensity of the 1978, 1976, and 1969, but it represents the epitome of this single-vineyard wine. Everything fits perfectly in this full-bodied, black/purple-colored wine that reveals no garnet or amber at the edge of its color. The nose offers up a formidable array of overripe black raspberries and cherries intertwined with scents of cedar, chocolate, olives, and toast. Extremely full-bodied, with an unctuosity and opulence that must be tasted to be believed, this velvety-textured wine's finish lasts for over a minute. It is one of the most concentrated but profoundly endowed and well-balanced wines I have ever tasted. Like so many of the wines Guigal has produced from this vineyard, no matter how hard one tries to articul

1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94JD, 93JG, 91RP, 91WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Showing a youthful red color with some slight lightening at the edges, the 1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a beautiful Beaucastel funk nose with ripe raspberries, earth, leather, mushroom and sauvage notes. Perfumed, nuanced and complex, this held up wonderfully over the course of dinner and even gained intensity with air. The palate is medium bodied with a silky, almost seamless texture, nice balance and a medium length finish. Everything is perfectly integrated and this was drinking amazingly well. An awesome wine." 1985 Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Medoc

91 points John Gilman: "I adored Poujeaux back in the decade of the 1980s, when it was one of the greatest steals to be found on the Left Bank, and the 1985 showed beautifully at our big tasting of the vintage here in New York in October. The bouquet is deep, complex and utterly classic for this fine Moulis property, wafting from the glass in a mix of cassis, cigar ash, incipient notes of chipotle peppers, a touch of coffee and a topnote of graphite. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, complex and beautifully tangy, with a fine core of fruit, meltin ...

1985 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96JG, 93RP, 90WS). John Gilman: "This was my last bottle of ’85 Lafite out of the cellar, as I only bought three bottles when it was released and dearly wish I had bought more, as the wine is rather more expensive today than it was back in 1987! This is an utterly brilliant year for Lafite and one of my favorite wines of the vintage, as it offers up a deep and very complex nose of cassis, sweet dark berries, a touch of fresh coconut, beautifully complex, gravelly soil tones, cigar smoke, fresh herbs and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very refined, with a rock solid core of sappy fruit, stunning complexity, impeccable focus and balance, moderate tannins and a fairly powerful finish (particularly for Lafite from this era) that closes with great purity and grip. A brilliant synthesis of the vintage’s plush and suave personality and the inimitable elegance of Lafite. (Drink between 2012-2060)" (09/2014)

1985 Casa Ferreirinha "Barca Velha" Douro
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Casa Ferreirinha "Barca Velha" Douro. Mark Squires writes: "Sogrape is Portugal’s 800 pound gorilla, a huge company that has holdings throughout the country, from Mateus to Barca Velha, Portugal’s equivalent of Penfold’s Grange. The crown jewel for dry wines is the Casa Ferreirinha line, acquired when Sogrape bought Ferreira, probably the Douro’s most historic estate for dry, red wine, and the creator of Barca Velha."

1985 Col D'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Col D'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is now fully mature. Tobacco, truffles, black cherries, leather and spices are just some of the aromas and flavors that take shape in the glass. I don’t see much room for the 1985 to improve from here, but it is in a glorious place right now. Stylistically the 1985 is cut from the same cloth as the 1990. The 1985 spent 60 months in cask, a bit longer than the norm at the time, which was around 54 months. (AG)" (05/2012)

1985 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (93RP, 92DC). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Spain's most consistently great winery continues to turn out exciting wines. There are four Unico Reservas currently in the market. The 1985 Unico Reserva is already revealing considerable complexity and low acid, plump, round, rich flavors. There is no amber to be found in the wine's deep ruby/purple color. The nose offers tobacco, smoke, tar, and gobs of sweet black cherry fruit aromas. Full-bodied, with a layered, nuanced character, high glycerin (hence the sweetness in the flavors), and a lush, round, generously-endowed finish, this is a substantial as well as elegant, savory style of Unico Reserva ...
