1983 Ridge Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (very high shoulder fill)

Declassified Monte Bello. Noted in Rarities 4/01/91 by Dennis Foley & John Tilson: 'Very dark, almost black color. Nose very closed-in. In the mouth there is an exotic boiled down fruit character. Still youthful.'

1983 Graham's Vintage Port

93 points Wine Spectator: "A superb achievement from a very underrated year. Deep dark ruby-purple, with rich floral and violet aromas, full-bodied, with masses of strawberry flavors, full tannins and a long finish. (JS, Web Only-1989)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather tha ...

1983 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (Lightly Bin Soiled Label)

94 points Decanter: "Again so young, almost not ready to drink but if you are patient things open up and start to sing. The tannic structure on this wine is just so impressive, still doing a good job of cradling blackberry and cassis fruits. It's a little less welcoming than the 1982. Harvest September 28 to October 18 (they began here one day before they finished up the 1982, and the yields were even bigger). More Cabernet in the blend than in 1982 because this was such a late ripening year that suited this variety. Petit Verdot 5% finishes blend. (JA)" ...

1983 Duckhorn "Three Palms" Napa Valley Merlot

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "From this vintage forward, Three Palms is made in every year. The winery began to feel confident in its ability to manage the ripe, low acid fruit it was getting from the vineyard, and it also discovered that Three Palms Merlot had very quickly earned its place among wine buyers."

1983 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (91JG, 90WS). John Gilman: "I have had this wine four or five times in the last couple of years, and it has gotten progressively better with each subsequent showing. The bouquet is complex and beginning to show signs of the transparency of maturity, as it offers up notes of dried, dark berries, a touch of chipotle pepper, leather, woodsmoke, heather, game, oak leaves, dried flowers and just a last vestige of the wine’s adolescent horsiness. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and gamy, with a fine core of fruit, lovely soil inflection, tannins that are now falling away nicely, and excellent length and grip on the complex and well-balanced finish. This is resolving very nicely, and is better than I had hoped to imagine in its stormy youth. I would still give it a few more years to completely soften. Drink between 2010-2030. 91+" (12/2008)

1983 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Margaux, Margaux (98DC, 98JS, 98WS, 96RP, 95ST). Wine Spectator: "This pulls together all the glorious notes of a fully mature Margaux, with singed cedar, rooibos tea, rose water and sandalwood aromas, followed by a stunning mélange of both fresh and dried red and black fruits, including currant, cherry, raspberry and plum. The long finish lets everything drape together beautifully. Absolutely stunning, this seems in no hurry to go anywhere. Remarkably fresh and defined at this time. Drink now through 2035.
