1981 La Dauphine, Fronsac (1.5L) Back In Stock!
1981 La Dauphine, Fronsac (1.5L)

Marie Josephe de Saxe (1731-1767), was the wife of Dauphin Louis Ferdinand de France (son of Louis XV). She lived in the chateau a little after it was built, around 1750 and gave the name of her husband's title to the estate. At the time of this particular release, this 25-acre vineyard was under the ownership of the esteemed Moueix family. Wines from this period are now fully mature, and represent an extraordinary buy for a birthday or anniversary. All bottles reconditioned at the property.

1981 Kopke Colheita Port

93 points Wine Spectator: "A warm, inviting style, with brown bread, toasted almond, powdered ginger and green tea notes leading the way. The green tea edge lingers longest through the focused, slightly taut finish. Starts slow, but adds zip and length with air. Drink now. (JM, Web Only-2017)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1981 Colheita Tawny Port comes in with 150 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is lovely, dark, burnished and unctuous. From a rather poor vintage year, this still shows well, demonstrating yet again that you can't ...Read More »

1981 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1981 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It reveals the classic Lafite bouquet of red and black fruits, cedar, fruitcake, and tobacco-like aromas. In the mouth, this medium ruby/garnet-colored wine displays a delicacy of fruit and sweet attack, but subtle, well-defined flavors ranging from tobacco, cigar box, cedar, and fruitcake. This is a savory, soft Lafite-Rothschild that is pleasing to both the intellect and the palate. (RP)" (01/1998)

1981 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (bin soiled label)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1981 Leoville-Las Cases appears close to full maturity, with an excellent deep ruby color, a spicy, cedary, tobacco and currant-scented nose, and good depth and ripeness... (RP)" (10/1995) Wine Spectator: "Lovely, round and soft with a good backbone of ripe tannins. Very aromatic, featuring plum, spice and cherry character. Full body and a lovely cedar, fruit finish. 1981 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien Very High Fill

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is certainly showing signs of maturity on the tawny rim. The nose displays moderate intensity, a little diffuse and certainly not showing the vigour that it did 5-6 years ago. Slightly green, but still good definition, opening up nicely in the glass and becoming more cedary. The palate is medium-bodied, high acidity, just a little muffled with irony black fruits. Not quite as well focused as it used to be, but still retaining some freshness. Linear, rather conservative but a decent ’81 – a perfect luncheon w ...Read More »

1981 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion Back In Stock!
1981 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The impressive four-story chateau and cellars of La Gaffeliere sit opposite each other just outside the walls of St. Emilion. Historically this is one of the most distinguished porperties in all of Bordeaux because the de Malet-Roquefort family has owned the property for over four centuries... The style aimed for at this estate is one of elegance and tenderness. This will never be a large-scaled, tannic monster of a wine, but when the wine is at its best, it will have a degree of finesse generally unmatched by other St. Em ...Read More »
