1970 Fonseca Vintage Port

96 points Wine Spectator: "Some people may enjoy this wine's rather fat, rich and powerful fruit now, but I still find it too young for drinking. Deeply colored, with smoky mint, tar and fruit aromas, full-bodied, with concentrated fruit flavors and plenty of tannins. (JS, Web Only-1989)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Vintners Company’s 650th anniversary celebration at Vintners Hall, the Fonseca 1970 was the finest bottle I have encountered. The bouquet opens beautifully with heady scents of clove, ginger, small red cherries, b ...

1970 Gazin, Pomerol

Robert Parker writes: "Readers may have forgotten (or never knew) that a chunk of this vineyard was sold to Petrus in the early 1970s, but what remains is still a superb terroir and incredibly well-placed on the plateau of Pomerol, adjacent to Petrus and across the road from Lafleur."

1970 Suduiraut, Sauternes
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Suduiraut, Sauternes (93JG, 90VN). John Gilman: "The 1970 Château Suduiraut is another lovely example of this fine Sauternes vintage, offering up a deep and fully mature bouquet of apricot, tangerine, leather, crème brulée, a fine base of chalky soil and a topnote of honey. On the palate the wine is deep, full and focused, with a lovely core, fine balance and grip and a long, vibrant and bouncy finish. This is really a lovely vintage of Suduiraut that is presently at its apogee of peak maturity. (Drink between 2016-2040)" (01/2018)

1970 Graham's Vintage Port

94 points John Gilman: "I drank quite a bit of the 1970 Graham’s over the course of the 1990s, but had not crossed paths with a bottle in several years until this most recent example. The wine is superb in 1970, as it displays a bouquet of voluptuous complexity, offering up scents of black cherry, plum, cedar, fresh mint, chocolate, a bit of tobacco leaf, and lovely, estery floral topnotes. On the palate the wine is focused and opulent, with fine framing acidity adding a note of precision to the attack, and with excellent freshness and balance on the sof ...

1970 Cockburn Vintage Port (Previously $200)

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ruby color, with just a hint of brick at the rim. Mouthfilling red berries and plums, finishing with chocolate and peppery spice. Overall, it’s a bit austere, but pretty, and capable of another decade or two of further aging. Drink or hold. (JC)" (03/2004) Jancis Robinson: "Very dark ruby. (Darker than 1977.) A burnt, rather simple quality to this nose. Not much subtlety. Thick on the palate with very marked sweetness. Hot finish. Thick, sweet and almost New World! (JR) 17.5/20 points" (09/2012)

1970 Robert Mondavi "Unfiltered" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Robert Mondavi "Unfiltered" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With repesct to older vintages, in October I tasted three of Mondavi's more renowned Cabernet Sauvignons. The 1970 Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon (rated 94 points) is a gorgeous, luxuriously rich, vibrant, full-bodied California Cabernet that has thrown considerable sediment, but, wow, what flavors and richness it still packs. The color is a dark saturated plum/garnet. The wine reveals explosive black currant, cedar, Asian spice, and fruitcake-like aromas, long, viscous, thick, chewy flavors, and fabulous length. It remains in remarkable condition, with at least another decade of life ahead of it. (RP)" (12/1997)

1970 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

92 points Wine Spectator: "I drank a lot of this in Paris when I lived there in the mid-1980s. And I had a bottle this summer as well. Always outstanding. Shows intense aromas of prune and licorice. Full, velvety and long. This is a beautiful Bordeaux. At its peak. (2007) (Web only)" (01/2007) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is interesting that this was the next vintage tasted in the vertical tasting, and I am not surprised given the mediocre decade of performances by Lynch Bages. Only the 1975 stands out, and that wine seems only good whe ...

1970 Trotanoy, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Trotanoy, Pomerol (96RP, 94JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One immediately discerns a deep garnet core, while the first sniff is like hearing the thundering of horses in the distance, presaging a spellbinding bouquet of iodine, macerated dark cherries, a hint of eucalyptus and with time, Japanese green tea (the traditional, “stand your spoon it type”). The palate is full-bodied with a velvety smooth texture, powerful and, I think, with more substance than the impressive 1971. The 1970 Trotanoy has broader shoulders, perhaps not quite the same level of elegance but an enormous length on the opulent, almost marmalade-like finish. There is a faint tang of black olives lingering on the aftertaste. This is a stunning Trotanoy…with still some way to go. (NM)" (06/2017)

1970 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Poured just prior to the Wine Advocate's Las-Cases dinner by a generous subscriber, while I was seated next to export manager Pierre Grafeuille, we were both smitten. It had a comely bouquet with degraded red berries, a touch of undergrowth and black stewed tea, delivering impressive delineation, if not power. The palate is medium-bodied, surprisingly elegant and without question the most vigorous example of the 1970 that I have encountered over the years. While not profoundly complex or rivaling the finest examples of this Saint Julien, it is the kind of mature Claret that puts a smile on your face, seeming to be so effortless and refined. Will future bottles be as good as this? Was it a one-off? Who knows, but certainly here we had a Bordeaux that delivers drinking pleasure after 46 years without too much effort. (NM)" (07/2016)

1970 Croft Vintage Port (1.5L) (Previously $320)

90 points Vinous: "The 1970 Croft Vintage Port has a russet core. The nose is detailed and focused with an attractive bouquet of cooked meats, mulberry, spice and leather. It is light and feminine, although it never really develops the nuance that I was hoping for in the glass. The palate is vigorous and not quite as elegant as the 1966: a little more alcoholic and unrefined, the finish more linear with liquorice, burnt toffee and raisin. Moderate length. It is a vintage that should be consumed in the near future. Tasted in the Factory House in Porto for ...

1970 La Fleur Pétrus, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1970 La Fleur Pétrus, Pomerol (90JG). John Gilman: "The 1970 vintage of Lafleur-Pétrus is one of the finest that I have ever tasted from this lovely château. The bouquet is deep and perfumed, as it delivers a mélange of red berries, cherries, cocoa powder, woodsmoke, spice, gamebirds and dried roses in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, deep and intensely flavored, with lovely vinosity, beautiful balance and focus, and a long, complex and elegant finish. This wine is a touch lower in acidity than many 1970s, but its refined balance should continue to carry it along seamlessly for another ten to fifteen years." (07/2006)
