1959 Suduiraut, Sauternes
Bid on this bottle of 1959 Suduiraut, Sauternes (97VN, 93WS). Vinous: "The 1959 Suduiraut is a vintage that I have been fortunate to have met three times before and mark my words, this is one of the greatest the château has ever produced. Deep amber in color, it has a striking bouquet with intense aromas of orange pith, quince jus, Clementine and beeswax that just bursts from the glass and frankly, overshadows anything produced until the 21st century. The palate is scintillating: intense and clean botrytised honeyed fruit, a razor-sharp line of acidity that keeps this on its toes. There is something so crystalline about this 1959 that it leaves you perplexed why or how the château lost that quality for so many years. It is a truly fabulous Sauternes and one of the high points of the estate. 103gm/L residual sugar and 14.9% alcohol. Tasted at a private dinner in Bordeaux. (NM)" (03/2019)

The cellars are in the village of Barolo, overlooking the Renaissance castle of the Marchesi Falletti di Barolo. Barolo as we know it today was first made in the early 19th century by the Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife, Giulia. The wine from their estate soon became known as “the wine from Barolo”, served at important diplomatic and royal functions. The Marchesi had no children and following the death of the couple, the Marchesi di Barolo dynasty was left without an heir. Per the wishes of Marchesa Giulia, a great philanthropist, the family assets were donated to charity and a non-profit foundation was created in their name, “Opera Pia Barolo”, helping the needy of nearby Torino. The sales of wine from their Barolo vineyards con
