2016 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Echezeaux Grand Cru

94 points John Gilman: "The 2016 Echézeaux from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is another superb bottle in the making. The excellent nose wafts from the glass in a constellation of cassis, dark berries, espresso, dark soil tones, woodsmoke, gamebird and nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a fine core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and impressive length and grip on the well-balanced and very promising finish. This is very 1993-like in personality. (Drink between 2030-2080) " (11/2017) 89-92 points Allen Mead ...Read More »

2016 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru

96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Richebourg Grand Cru was not touched at all by the frost, so there are the full five barrels this year (sometimes it can be six). It has a majestic bouquet with ample blackberry, raspberry preserve and brown spice scents, later a touch of white flowers and truffle. This is so mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin. This is beautifully focused, tensile and brimming with energy, yet it remains linear, almost aloof right to the finish, a covert sign that it should not ...Read More »

2015 Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur Echézeaux Grand Cru

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(from vines in Loächausses planted in 1989 and 1995). An ultra-spicy black cherry, cassis and discreet earth and floral nuances are trimmed in a hint of sandalwood. The super-rich and pliant medium weight flavors possess plenty of sappy dry extract that buffers the supporting tannins on the mocha-inflected and slightly warm finish. This will most please those who enjoy extravagantly rich burgundies though I can’t say that it’s for me. 2023+" (01/2018)

2016 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Orveaux"

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too a deft touch of wood sets off the spicier and more complex aromas that combine both red and blue pinot fruit with a broader range of both spice and floral elements. The bigger, richer and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality onto the reasonably well-balanced finale. I say reasonably well-balanced because while there is a hint of warmth, it's not really enough to materially detract from the wine's overall appeal." 2016 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée

88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A subtle but not invisible application of wood frames the spicy aromas of plum, violet and a hint of tea. There is a bit more volume and richness if less evident muscularity to the medium weight, fleshy and caressing flavors that culminate in a highly refreshing and balanced finish. If this can add a bit more depth with a few years of cellaring it should merit the upper end of my projected range." 90 points John Gilman: "The 2016 Vosne-Romanée “aux Réas” from Jean-Marie Fourrier is very good, offering up a complex nose of raspberries, cherries, raw cocoa, a good base of soil and a touch of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, tangy and nicely plush on the attack, with a good core, moderate tannins and fine soil drive on the long finish. Good juice." 2016 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival)

96 points John Gilman: "The 2016 Romanée-St.-Vivant from Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat is quite black fruity this year, but perfumed, elegant and soil-driven at the same time and this is going to be a superb example of the vintage. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a youthful blend of back raspberries, sweet dark berries, a lovely base of minerality, dark chocolate, a touch of fresh nutmeg, gamebird and vanillin oak. 2011 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru

96 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As it was from cask this is more restrained than usual and it requires aggressive swirling to coax the pure and spicy essence of red berry fruit aromas to emerge from the glass where there is a slight hint of herbal tea present. There is a similar reserve to the distinctly focused and linear flavors that enjoy a seemingly unlimited reserve of dry extract that renders the fine-grained and silky tannins almost invisible at present though I suspect that they will become much more apparent once the baby fat melts away. The agreeably textured medium-bodied flavors possess a relatively open mid-palate that, together with the enveloping finish, should allow this to be approachable young if that's your fruit preference but also reward up to a decade of aging. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, more sensual and denser than the Beaumonts, with a corpulent finish perhaps more common in 2015. This is an outstanding Les Suchots. 2016 Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot Vosne-Romanée

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from three vineyards covering 1.5 hectares and sees one-third new oak. It has a fragrant bouquet with ebullient strawberry and raspberry fruit entwined with cold stone aromas and discrete sous-bois aromas. The palate has a little more substance than its fellow village crus even if it does not quite deliver the same finesse as the Morey-Saint-Denis or the Gevrey-Chambertin. Still, I appreciate the deft spicy note that sustains the finish. (NM)" (12/2017)

It soaks that up nicely on the composed nose, plenty of blackberry and raspberry fruit with a touch of allspice. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin, very well-judged acidity and a harmonious black cherry and bilberry finish that is very promising. It has a well-defined and elegant bouquet with scents of dark cherries, raspberry preserve and wilted rose petal and potpourri scents. 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Nicole told me she lost between 20% and 25% of the crop of her 2016 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru this year. This is evident on the nose that has more fruit intensity and joie de vivre than the Echézeaux. It springs forth with Morello cherries, crushed strawberry and minerals, beautifully defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition. There is superb tension on the entry and conspicuous salinity here. It has a more intense bouquet than the Echézeaux, as you would expect: red berry fruit, orange zest, hints of tangerine and blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, a touch of spice on the entry, great depth here with a subtle savory, almost meaty element towards the structured finish. 2016 Domaine Perrot-Minot Vosne-Romanée

Allen Meadows writes: "Christophe Perrot-Minot commented that 2016 "was just flat out difficult. The frost was awful as it's depressing to know that in many of your vineyards that you've lost between 50 and 65% of your crop before the growing season has barely begun...Thankfully the harvest had good weather so we had the luxury of waiting without much risk. Densely packed and vibrant, with concentrated berry fruit accented by pepper and spices from the stems. Firm tannins will support slow development in bottle. There's way more inner-mouth tension and éclat here than I found in the Echézeaux. An outstanding vintage for this bottling. 2016 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée "Les Suchots"

The Mongeard family arrived in Vosne-Romanée in the eighteenth century, and records show a Mongeard working as vigneron for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1786. In 1945, Jean Mongeard, whose mother was a Mugneret, found himself making wine at the age of 16. His father had died five years before, and there was no one left to do the job. The entire 1945 crop was purchased by Baron le Roy, Marquis d’Angerville, and Henri Gouges. Gouges instructed the young Mongeard to personally bottle the wines, rather than sell in barrel. But overall I simply repeat my original review as it is still accurate: A discreet but incredibly complex nose features notes of spicy, pure and relatively high-toned fruit that is laced with plenty of rose petal and violet hints. There is excellent energy and freshness to the lacy and stunningly precise broad-scaled flavors that build in intensity from the densely concentrated mid-palate to the explosive and mouth coating finish that seemingly goes on without end. This is a big LT with ample muscle and very firm but not aggressive structure along with superb depth of underlying material and positively mind-blowing length. But the real genius of this w

2007 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée (90JG). John Gilman: "The 2007 Vosne-Romanée from Domaine Liger-Belair is a perfect example of just how well this vintage is beginning to drink at the present time, as it offers up a vibrant and very classy nose of red and black raspberries, Vosne spices, a touch of gamebird, lovely minerality, coffee and cedar. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and quite defined by its minerality, with a succulent core of fruit, bright acids, just a touch of remaining tannins and lovely length and grip on the complex and quite elegant finish. Good juice (Drink between 2013-2030) 90+" (01/2014)

1998 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1998 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (95BH, 93ST, 93W&S). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Like all of the '98 DRC reds, the clarity is a bit cloudy and not limpid though it does not seem to affect the purity of the aromas that now display some subtle secondary hints on the stunning nose of ripe red and black fruits, oriental spices, tea and leather notes. There is superb intensity to the dense, serious and strikingly complex flavors that are underpinned by ripe tannins and huge length on the balanced, mouth coating and impressively long finish. The personality here is muscular and bold with the ripe acidity framing the flavors and wonderfully focused finale. It's worth pointing out that while this is still on the way up, I was pleasantly surprised at how approachable the '98 LT was even though there is more development potential to realize. Multiple and consistent notes. Drink from 2018+." (04/2015)

2016 Domaine d'Eugénie Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" (Pre-Arrival)

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Brûlées comprises four barrels this year, two of them new. It includes 60% whole bunch fruit. It has a deep purple color. The nose is very pure, a mixture of black cherries, blackcurrant, crushed violet and just a hint of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh entry, a fine line of acidity, the whole bunch lending just a soupçon of stalkiness/greenness that counterbalances the ripeness bestowed by the growing season. 2007 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée Grand Cru (96JG, 95RP, 95VN, 94ST, 93BH). John Gilman: "Louis-Michel Liger-Belair’s 2007 La Romanée is one of the wines of the vintage and is showing stunning aromatic and flavor complexity at age seven, but it is still emphatically a young wine and more patience will be very richly rewarded! The absolutely brilliant bouquet delivers an celestial blend of raspberries, a touch of blood orange, red plums, cinnamon, incipient notes of duck, a kaleidoscopic base of soil tones, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very light on its feet, with exquisite intensity of flavor, great complexity, a sappy core of fruit, great soil signature and great focus and grip on the tangy and modestly tannic finish. This wine is already very accessible and hard not to drink, but it has not yet developed its secondary layers of complexity and will be even better in another three or four years. A brilliant

1999 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru (95RP, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru from Hudelot-Noëllat personifies the vineyard with some style. It has a stunning, pure, elegant and effortless nose that maybe expresses that essence of pinoté better than more than a dozen other Richebourg wines present at this tasting. Raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and cold stone soar from the glass with great focus. The palate is tensile, the red berry fruit laced with orange zest that lends vivacity and energy. To be banal, this is just a Richebourg so well crafted that you want to just drink it rather than intellectualize over its virtues. That's the sign of a great wine. (NM)" (11/2015)
