92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and thickly layered, with boysenberry and fig paste flavors taking the lead, pushed by some hefty ganache and black licorice notes. The finish has an ample roasted apple wood injection holding sway, though there's good underlying cut thanks to a buried chalky minerality. Still seems like this will rely more on extraction in the end. (JM, Web-2016)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Clos Fourtet ’00 has a backward nose that takes time to evolve in the glass. Very pure dark berried fruit with cassis, blueberry, ...

2018 Tertre Rôteboeuf, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
97-99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Tertre Roteboeuf is another powerful, opulent wine from this estate that reminds me a little of the 2005 with its density and tannic structure. Cassis, graphite, black raspberries, and tons of classy oak all emerge from this full-bodied beauty that has tons of fruit and texture, a stacked mid-palate, and a big finish. It’s a massive, sumptuous, and lavishly oaked and fruited wine that’s going to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for 25-30 years." (05/2019) 93-96 points Vinous: "The 2018 Tertre-Rôteboeuf i...

93-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A rough blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Franc made by the team at Canon (Thomas Duclos also consults here), the 2018 Château Berliquet sports a deeper purple color as well as a complex, layered style in its black raspberry, white flowers, dried earth, spice, and forest floor aromas and flavors. It's medium to full-bodied, has a rounded, expansive texture, beautiful tannins, and brilliant freshness and purity as well as a serious kick of minerality on the finish. Coming from a smaller 10-hectare terroir located on the clay and limes...

95 points James Suckling: "This is really fine and beautiful with a dark-berry, cedar, mahogany and chocolate character. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a pretty finish. Really impressive for the vintage. " (03/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Offering cedary notes with some hints of black olive tapenade, grilled meats, spice box and wood with black and red currants, this wine seems fully mature, lusty, rich and undeniably a major success in this vintage. The tannins are largely resolved and the wine is drinking beautifully, so th...

97 points Decanter: "Easily as good as the 2015 at this estate, the 2018 may even prove to be better after some ageing. There is depth and concentration to the berry fruits, but also a fine quality to the tannins and a softness overall that suggests nothing was pushed, that all of this power is simply what was naturally given by the vintage. It's very good quality, true to the confidence of the estate, pulsating with rich raspberry and damson notes and playing between a seductive gourmet edge and maintaining its limestone freshness. I have enjoyed a numb...

92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Château Haut Brisson is another rich yet finesse-oriented Saint-Emilion, and it might be the finest I've tasted from them. Lots of black raspberry, cassis, spring flowers, and violet notes define the bouquet, and it has a touch of chocolatey oak, lots of opulence and decadence, straight-up awesome purity, and a great finish. It's a beautiful, powerful yet elegant 2019. 92-94+" (06/2020) 93-94 points James Suckling: "This is very opulent and rich with lots of ripe fruit. Full-bodied, layered and very rich. Dried fruit...

2018 Pavie, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Possibly the wine of the vintage, the 2018 Château Pavie is comprised of 60% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from this magical hillside terroir just outside of Saint-Émilion. Thrilling notes of crème de cassis, crushed rocks, graphite, smoked herbs, and an almost Hermitage-like minerality all emerge from this young, primordial, viscerally thrilling wine that's got perfection written all over it. Massively textured, full-bodied, ultra-fine and flawlessly balanced, it shows how to pair elegance ...

96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Opaque purple-black colored, the nose is fantastically floral, bursting from the glass with notes of candied violets, red roses and lavender over a core of plum preserves, wild blueberries and black raspberries with touches of garrigue, tilled soil, wild fungi and crushed rocks plus a waft of powdered cinnamon. The medium-bodied palate is like a tightly coiled spring, featuring beautifully knit layers of black and red fruits, earth and floral notes within a firm, fine-grained frame and bags of freshness, finis...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An outstanding, dark ruby/purple-hued effort with little lightening at the edge, the 1982 Canon exhibits plenty of crushed rock, red and black currant, and dusty, earthy, loamy notes. It is a full-bodied, powerful, slightly austere St.-Emilion with moderately high tannins. Believe it or not, this 1982 is not yet fully mature. It should drink well for another 10-15 years." (06/2009) Jancis Robinson: "Soft and appealing with real mineral notes. Very fruity and ready. Gentle, beguiling texture. Drink now!" (07/200...

2000 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion
Back In Stock!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years a...

95-96 points James Suckling: "This is incredibly well integrated with ripe fruit and super fine tannins that melt into the wine. Precise and beautifully ripe fruit." (04/2019) 93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This estate has a terrific terroir and lies next to Cheval Blanc and Ripeau. Their 2018 Château La Dominique offers a medium to full-bodied, beautifully elegant and refined style to go with complex aromatics of black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, and exotic spices. It’s not the biggest or richest wine out there, but it has class, elegance, and pu...

97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "All from the upper plateau and incredible limestone soils, the 2018 Château Pavie Decesse is a crazy good wine that's going to flirt with perfection. Black raspberries, cassis, crushed stone, exotic flowers, and an incredible salinity all give way to a full-bodied, concentrated yet elegant wine that just glides over the palate. Made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, it’s going to require 4-6 years of bottle age, but it’s one of the great wines of the vintage." (05/2019) 97-98 points James Suckling: "Powerful young red ...

97 points James Suckling: "This controversial wine is fresh and bright still, unlike many of the overrated 2003s. Full-bodied, tight and polished with beautiful intensity and verve. Blackberry and sweet tobacco. Wet earth. Subtle and complex. Straight and direct." (03/2018) 97 points Wine Spectator: "This is a stunner, with the warmth of the vintage marrying ideally with the relative coolness of the terroir to deliver a wide range of vivid plum, boysenberry, raspberry and cherry paste flavors that have energy and drive, carried by a long graphite note ...

Wine Enthusiast: "From vines on the plateau to the west of the village of Saint-Émilion, this is a light, fruity wine. Its acidity and tannic structure lend a crisp texture to its black currant fruit. (RV)" (12/2017)

94-97 points Vinous: "The 2018 La Gaffelière is once again one of the finest and most pedigreed wines in Saint-Émilion and all of Bordeaux for that matter. The high percentage of Cabernet Franc (37%) gives the wine striking aromatic nuance and complexity, as well as fabulous drive. Rose petal, sage, mint and blood orange all soar out of the glass in a stunning Saint-Émilion loaded with class and personality. Consulting winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt has turned out another gem at this revitalized property. The blend is 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Franc. ...

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deeply colored, the 2018 Château Barde-Haut gives up a powerful, yet elegant profile that carries beautiful black cherry, chocolate, liquid violets, and hints of minerality. It's medium to full-bodied, has beautiful mid-palate depth, integrated acidity, and thrilling tannin quality, which isn’t a given in the vintage. Opening up with time in the glass, it shows more and more minerality and freshness, and is flawlessly balanced. In short, it’s beautiful Saint-Émilion readers will love to have in their cellar. 94-96+" (05/2019) ...

98-100 points Decanter: "This is a wonderful, fairly classic Cheval Blanc, less exuberant than some of the wines that you're going to find in 2018. It's full of intense red and black berries, floral notes, and a ton of menthol, eucalyptus and liquorice which underpins the entire concentrated fruit expression. Silky tannins slowly layer up over the palate. It's full of focus and extremely elegant but it accelerates through the mid-palate, gathering strength as it goes. I love this wine in so many vintages, and they have done it again in 2018. (JA)" (04/20...

98 points James Suckling: "Blackberry, plum, mushroom and wood undertones. It’s full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins. Savory and fleshy texture on the palate. Well balanced. Flavorful finish with length. Such polish and composure for a young wine. So classy! " (01/2021) 95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with a 3.5 pH and 14.56% alcohol, the deep purple-black colored 2018 Bellevue Mondotte opens with alluring scents of Christmas cake, blueberry pie, chocolate-covered cherries ...

98-99 points James Suckling: "A full-bodied red that’s powerful, very rich and very deep. Floral and spicy with dried fruit, earth, tobacco and mushrooms. Dense center palate. Great depth. Traditional." (05/2020) 95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Larcis Ducasse was harvested from the 25th of September to the 7th of October. Yields were 38.5 hectoliters per hectare this year, with around 70% of production going into the grand vin. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sails out of the glass wi...

98 points Decanter: "Sleek, elegant and appealing even before you get your nose near the glass. Aromatically it is deep and rich, and then it revs up and takes off. Dense, compact and intense, zingy limestone vibrancy and grip. Winemakers say they are looking for balance all the time, but here you feel it, with tiny pulses of electricity that appear from beginning to end of the palate. Salinity on the finish with gunsmoke and extremely moreish blueberry and blackberry fruit, with a creamy texture as things open up. 50% new oak. Thomas Duclos consults. (J...

96 points Decanter: "Rich plum colour. This takes its time to open, is pretty subtle at first, but then explodes in juicy fruit. Clear salinity where you can feel the slate scrape of the limestone terroir, alongside well expressed aromatics with touches of peony flowers. Elegant and succulent. Second vintage with Jean de Cournuaud as technical director. A yield of 46hl/ha. 65% new oak, with a mix of barrels and 20hl casks. 3.77pH. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010's final blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc offers up impressive levels of red, blue and black fruits as well as some toasty oak and crushed rock, giving it minerality. Of course, the acidity in this vintage, with its lower pHs than 2009, provide a freshness and precision that is rare for wines so rich. This wine has plenty of tannin, so give it 4-6 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years. (RP) 95+" (02/2013) K&L Notes: 95 points Lisa Perotti-Brown in Wine Advocate: "The 2...

95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This rising superstar estate in Saint-Emilion has produced another brilliant wine in 2019. Based largely on Merlot brought up in new French oak, it reveals a dense purple hue as well as a powerful bouquet of black raspberry and cassis interwoven with plenty of graphite, candied violets, cedary spice, and chocolatey oak. This powerful, full-bodied Saint-Emilion stays beautifully balanced and has building tannins, a vibrant spine of acidity, and classic minerality on the finish. It's already hard to resist given the purity of fru...

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another estate that I suspect has produced a best to date, the 2018 Château Sansonnet comes from a tiny 7-hectare vineyard which was purchased by Marie and Christophe Lefévère early in 2009. The vineyard itself is 35 years old and consists of a thin layer of clay sitting over the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The 2018 is a blend of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc, representing 65% of the total production, that saw malolactic fermentation in barrel and is still resting in 80% new French oak. 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Pure perfection in a glass, the incredible 2009 Troplong Mondot offers off the chart notes of blackcurrants, licorice, truffles and saddle leather that just soar from the glass. This is a big, ripe, incredibly sexy wine that hits the palate with a huge texture, building, ripe tannin, no weight, and a finish that just won't quit. Utterly brilliant stuff, it's slightly more approachable than the 2005, but both of these vintages play in the same style. Drink bottles anytime over the coming two to three decades. Bravo!" Firm and very fine tannins and a long and persistent finish." (04/2019) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Le Carillon d'Angélus comes bounding out of the glass with bold notes of crushed blackberries, black raspberries and wild blueberries plus hints of spice box, damp soil, smoked meats and ...

Here is a fine find from the Right Bank. Founded in 1704, this 14-hectare estate run by the Bardet family is located on gravelly/clay soils that impart depth and complexity to the wine. 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. We just discovered this property in 2019, and we have already sold quite a bit of their 1995 and 1996. Super old-school label for an “old school” property. This wine has lots of red berry aromas and flavors. It really opens up with some decanting.

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An elegant, pretty Quinault, the 2004 displays a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, rich nose of licorice, black raspberries, cherries, and spice. This blend of 71% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec possesses an excellent texture, beautiful elegance and complexity, and no hard edges. A seamlessly made, supple-textured, evolved, forward effort, it can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years. This is a very strong effort in a challenging vintage. (RP)" (06/2007) 90 poi...

2017 Angélus, St-Emilion (Previously $450) (Previously $450)

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The top wine here is terrific, and the 2017 Chateau Angelus is in the top two or three wines on the Right Bank. Checking in as 70% Merlot and a full 30% Cabernet Franc, it shows the slightly more elegant, polished style favored at the estate these days yet still packs ample richness and depth. Deep purple-hued with awesome creme de cassis-like fruit as well as plenty of unsmoked tobacco, new saddle leather, white truffle, and white chocolate aromas and flavors, this beauty is medium to full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, no hard ...
