2016 Fombrauge, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a perfumed wine, likely thanks to a dollop (7%) of Cabernet Franc. It has ripe fruit characters, pleasant richness and a firm structure. (RV)" (04/2017) 94 points James Suckling: "There’s a very rich and powerful core of red-plum and mulberry aromas and flavors here, delivering an assertive and very shimmery, polished palate. Great tannin texture. Long and regal. Every bit as good as the 2015, but more lively in 2016. " (02/2019) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Fombrauge has come together beautifully during its agin...

2009 Grand Pontet, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 70% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine has an opaque purple color and a sweet nose of vanillin, roasted coffee beans, chocolate and kirsch liqueur intermixed with blacker fruits such as cassis. It is rich, full-bodied, moderately tannic, but low in acidity and quite heady and powerful (15% natural alcohol). This impressive wine is a big, back-strapping effort to drink over the next 15+ years. Produced by Sylvie Pourquet, the sister of Gerard and Dominique Be...

Here is a fine find from the Right Bank. Founded in 1704, this 14-hectare estate run by the Bardet family is located on gravelly/clay soils that impart depth and complexity to the wine. 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. We just discovered this property in 2019, and we have already sold quite a bit of their 1995 and 1996. Super old-school label for an “old school” property. This wine has lots of red berry aromas and flavors. It really opens up with some decanting.
Price: $49.99

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic St.-Emilion, the 2010 from Grand-Pontet is dense purple and ripe, with loads of black cherry, plum, fig and vanillin notes. The wine has a full-bodied yet luscious and succulent mid-palate that gives it accessibility now despite some elevated tannins in the long finish. It is well-made and generally one of the better values of St.-Emilion. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. (RP)" (02/2013)

2017 Canon, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Showing spectacularly, the 2017 Chateau Canon checks in as a final blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc that’s from one of the most exceptional terroirs in the appellation. Hitting 14% alcohol (the pH is 3.66), it reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as gorgeously sweet raspberries and cassis-like fruit interwoven with notes of spring flowers, rose petal, white chocolate, and spice. While it doesn’t have the massive opulence of the 2015 and 2016, it’s more classically styled as well flawlessly balanced, with a terrific sense of...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Showing better than a previous bottle, the 2009 Larcis Ducasse is just now starting to come into its own, offering terrific, full-bodied aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, licorice, espresso, and leafy herbs. This deep, rich, full-bodied effort has absorbed its oak élevage beautifully, has a layered, unctuous texture, and plenty of sweet tannin. It’s a heavenly Saint Emilion to enjoy over the coming 15+ years." (02/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A complex set of aromas ranging from coffee to forest floor, herb...

1985 Angélus, St-Emilion

Top Pick!
96-97 points James Suckling: "Blueberry and blackberry character with hints of white pepper and chalk. Salty, too. Full-bodied, tight and polished with fantastic texture and length. Very closed and tight with gorgeous tannin quality." (04/2019) 93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This tiny, picturesque vineyard on the east side of Saint-Émilion has turned out another brilliant wine with their 2018 Château Tour Saint Christophe. The vineyard covers 6.5 hectares of terraced slopes sitting just across from Château Barde-Haut and consists of old vine Merlot and Cab...

2016 Darius, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
One of the finest values in the 2016 Bordeaux vintage, the Château Darius St-Emilion is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. The wine is made in a modern fashion with beautifully pure fruit and structure that makes it openly accessible and enjoyable immediately. It's no wonder this is a favorite of restaurant sommeliers in France. What better addition to a wine list than a Bordeaux from a stunning vintage that's ready to go right now?
Price: $21.99

94 points Vinous: "Just as it was en primeur, the 2017 Barde-Haut possesses notable richness and power, while retaining a good bit of freshness. Inky dark fruit, cloves, licorice, chocolate and menthol are pushed forward here. Racy and voluptuous in the glass, the 2017 is positively gorgeous today. It should drink well with minimal cellaring. (AG) 94+" (03/2020) 93 points James Suckling: "A complex, composed impression on the nose with rich plum and earthy aromas, nicely framed in oak spice. All working well. The palate has a very smooth, supple feel w...

2017 Clos Fourtet, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Checking in as a blend of 86% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Chateau Clos Fourtet comes all from the upper limestone plateau and spent 18 months in 60% new French oak. This deep ruby/purple-hued effort offers a rocking perfume of ripe black raspberries, cassis, crushed stone, chocolate, and flowery incense. Powerful, full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it's beautifully done, has ripe, present tannins, and a great finish. It ranks with the gems in this solid vintage and will benefit f...

95-96 points James Suckling: "This is a very powerful and structured Haut-Brisson, showing incredible depth and richness. Full-bodied and layered with incredible depth and purity. Layers of fruit and tannin. Best ever." (04/2019) 92-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The deep, saturated purple/plum-colored 2018 Château Haut Brisson checks in as a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a 22-hectare vineyard of fine gravelly and quartz-rich soils sitting on top of deep clay. Still aging in 35% new French oak, this rich, medium to full-bodied Saint-Émilion ...

93 points James Suckling: "An earthy red with dried meat and ripe fruit. Full body and smoky character with mushroom and smoked-tea undertones. Chewy finish still." (05/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has a very youthful color and seems to be close to full maturity, without the density of the 1998, or its successor, the perfect 2000. It has abundant foresty notes, plenty of spice box, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, some background toasty oak, medium to full body and sweet tannin. A very delicious wine, it offers a comple...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another killer 2012 readers should be happy to have in their cellar is the concentrated, classically styled 2012 Tertre Roteboeuf. Offering tons of exotic cassis and jammy black cherry fruits as well as more nuanced smoked earth, tobacco, truffle, and licorice aromas and flavors, it’s full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, yet stays weightless and elegant, with fine, fine tannin and incredible purity. It’s slightly less concentrated than the 2005 yet is stunning stuff that can be enjoyed anytime over the coming 15-20+ years. ...

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Fonplegade strides confidently out of the glass with bold black cherries, warm plums and black raspberry scents plus hints of cedar chest, pencil shavings, lavender, garrigue and camphor. Full-bodied, rich and packed with expressive black fruits, it has a firm, velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing long. Top Pick!
97 points Wine Enthusiast: "A warm wine rich in tannins and with succulent berry fruits, this is both powerful and elegant. Its density doesn’t detract from the fruitiness that shines out of the wine and balances with the structured aging potential. Drink the wine from 2025. *Editors’ Choice* (RV)" (05/2019) 96 points James Suckling: "This is really decadent and rich with great aromas of earth, spice, frost flowers and fresh mushrooms that follow through to a full body, firm and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very, very serious from here. A ble...

2016 Pavie-Macquin, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Possibly the finest vintage of this cuvée to date, the 2016 Château Pavie Macquin comes from a cooler, later terroir on the upper plateau and checks in as 82% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 50% new oak. This deep, inky-colored effort boasts a rock star bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, white truffle, graphite, and spice. Deep, rich, and powerful on the palate, yet also balanced, elegant, and seamless, with ultra-fine tannins, this seamless beauty needs a decade of cellaring and will keep for ...

96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Deep aromas of red and black fruits, violet, gunflint, licorice and bitter chocolate, complemented by a sexy oak-derived note of hickory smoke. Large-scaled and sweet, but with terrific precision and refinement to the flavors of dark berries, chocolate, licorice and minerals. Finishes polished and long. Not as opulent or exotic as the 2009, but offers exceptional sweetness and size while managing to maintain impressive verve and thrust. A great 2010. (ST)" (07/2013)

Full-bodied, pure and supple with a direct delivery of vibrant fruit and real terroir expression. Savory at the end with hazelnut and crunchy-seed flavors. Reality check here. Incredible fruit quality." (04/2019) 97-100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "'This year we have slightly less Cabernet Franc in the blend because we are only using the oldest vines, planted by my grandfather, as a tribute,'...

93 points James Suckling: " Wonderful aromas of black truffles and berries with hints of wet earth. Full body, with velvety tannins and a rich and chewy finish. Yet the fruit and acidity balance this muscular wine. Try in 2018. " (02/2013) 93 points Wine Spectator: "There's a nice charcoal note driving this from the start, while the dark plum, blackberry and black currant fruit waits in reserve. Ganache, licorice snap and tobacco fill in the finish and give this added range, while a singed alder wood note runs underneath for added texture and length. I...

2015 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion 6-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
97 points Vinous: "The 2015 La Gaffelière is a wine of total finesse. Much less obvious and overt than most Saint-Émilions in this vintage, La Gaffelière makes its case on harmony and grace above all else. Bright, lifted Cabernet Franc-infused aromatics give the 2015 striking freshness and aromatic presence. The flavors are bright and nuanced to the core, with plenty of red cherry, espresso and floral notes. But back to the basics. In 2015 La Gaffelière is a wine that stands out because of its impeccable balance and sense of proportion. I loved it. Taste...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) prances out of the glass with energetic notes of crushed black and red plums, black cherries and black raspberries plus wafts of potpourri, oolong tea and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is oh-so-pretty with bags of fragrant fruit and a firm, plush frame, finishing long and perfumed. Jancis Robinson: "Compact, dense and structured but just a little austere at present. Fresh and lifted with a hint of tea and floral notes, depth of fruit and finely matted texture but everything reined in, the plentiful tannins subdued behind. But nothing in excess. Just a slow burner. Undoubted ageing potential. (JL) 17.5+/20" (06/2020) K&L Notes: PLEASE NOTE: 2019 Bordeaux Futures are being offered without any added tariffs. 95 points John Gilman: " The 1998 Château Magdelaine is a brilliant young wine and it seems very likely, at this early point in its development, that this vintage will ultimately rank as one of the greatest ever produced at this iconic estate. The bouquet is deep, pure and very elegant in profile, wafting from the glass in a nascently complex blend of black cherries, cassis, menthol, cigar smoke, Magdelaine’s inimitably complex soil tones and a touch of smoky new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with impeccable...

97-100 points Wine Spectator: "This is pretty gorgeous, with a velvety texture that lets nearly exotic cassis, plum and blackberry fruit reduction flavors roll through. Has a beautiful bass line of warm earth and smoldering tobacco notes all while keeping its sensational mouthfeel. The encore on the finish makes you realize this is the serious gourmet stuff. One of the highlights of the vintage. (JM)" (03/2019) 97-99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasting like a hypothetical blend of the 2015 and 2016, the 2018 Château Figeac offers that rare mix of elegance and...

2004 Pavie, St-Emilion
Back In Stock!
96 points Wine & Spirits: "A conspicuously modern wine, Pavie with its hyper-ripe fruit and substantial new oak treatment stands out as an offense to some, a glorious pleasure to others. In the case of the 2004, it carries the oak beautifully, untamed by it. The wine is wild, in fact, and quite hard to resist. The cool complexity of the tannins grows out of three terroirs: the limestone plateau, a sector of gravel and limestone and a third sector of clay. The fruit opens with thick-skinned black plum power, reverberating with feral scents and violets. St...

Their 2018 Château La Dominique offers a medium to full-bodied, beautifully elegant and refined style to go with complex aromatics of black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, and exotic spices. Thrilling notes of crème de cassis, crushed rocks, graphite, smoked herbs, and an almost Hermitage-like minerality all emerge from this young, primordial, viscerally thrilling wine that's got perfection written all over it. Rose petal, sage, mint and blood orange all soar out of the glass in a stunning Saint-Émilion loaded with class and personality. Showing the cooler, complex, concentrated style of the vineyard, it's full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with no shortage of extract or tannins. The wine always has a healthy pH and needs bottle age to show at its best. A solid 7-8 years are warranted here, and it will keep for 2-3 decades. The 20...

Beautifully ripe and sexy, with a massive bouquet of blackcurrants, macerated black cherries, and smoked earth, it's full-bodied, opulent, and layered on the palate, with serious fruit. The pH is 3.55—pretty incredible when you consider the alcohol is nearly 15%! I hasten to add that from tasting, I would have guessed this was 14.3% to 14.5% alcohol. 98-100 points Decanter: "Pauline Vauthier is the 11th generation of the family to be producing wine here.
