2009 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (in the past it was two-thirds Merlot and the rest split between Cabernet Sauv...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Even more flamboyant and sexy than the 2000, the 2005 Pavie has everything you could ever want from a wine. Deep, inky purple-colored, an awesome perfume of cassis, blackberries, toasty oak, graphite, and incredible minerality, full body, sweet tannin, and a blockbuster finish all make for an extraordinary Saint-Emilion. It’s still a baby but offers incredible pleasure today. It’s going to last for another 3-4 decades." (08/2018) 100 points James Suckling: "This is monumental. Just a baby with a fresh and intense mouthfeel and ...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic St.-Emilion, the 2010 from Grand-Pontet is dense purple and ripe, with loads of black cherry, plum, fig and vanillin notes. The wine has a full-bodied yet luscious and succulent mid-palate that gives it accessibility now despite some elevated tannins in the long finish. It is well-made and generally one of the better values of St.-Emilion. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. (RP)" (02/2013) K&L Notes: Grand Pontet is an interesting property, positioned in the neighborhood of other stars of the appellatio...

2000 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion
Back In Stock!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years a...

We sold out of the 1995 in a matter of one e-mail. Now we have the more powerful 1996, with the same old-fashioned label.

1985 Angélus, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Spectator: "Intense and already complex, with lots of spice, toffee and coffee elements to the blackberry fruit, supple texture, distinctive and full of personali ty. Distinguished and elegant. *Cellar Selection*" (03/1988) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a seductively smooth, supple, broadly flavored wine with aromas and flavors of berry fruit and herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated, and delicious... (RP)" (08/1993)

2008 Le Dôme, St-Émilion
Back In Stock!
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot, the 2008 Le Dome comes from a tiny site not far from Angélus and is made by Jonathan Maltus. This beauty boasts a deep ruby, opaque color as well as a seductive, forward style its black and blue fruits, lavender, spring flowers, and forest floor aromas and flavors. Incredibly elegant on the palate, with medium to full body, sweet tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great finish, it’s fully mature today (and drinking beautifully!) but will cruise for another decade in cold cellar...

93 points James Suckling: "An earthy red with dried meat and ripe fruit. Full body and smoky character with mushroom and smoked-tea undertones. Chewy finish still." (05/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has a very youthful color and seems to be close to full maturity, without the density of the 1998, or its successor, the perfect 2000. It has abundant foresty notes, plenty of spice box, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, some background toasty oak, medium to full body and sweet tannin. A very delicious wine, it offers a comple...

96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Deep aromas of red and black fruits, violet, gunflint, licorice and bitter chocolate, complemented by a sexy oak-derived note of hickory smoke. Large-scaled and sweet, but with terrific precision and refinement to the flavors of dark berries, chocolate, licorice and minerals. Finishes polished and long. Not as opulent or exotic as the 2009, but offers exceptional sweetness and size while managing to maintain impressive verve and thrust. A great 2010. (ST)" (07/2013)

In 2018 the Château passed into the hands of the Savare family with much updating to the vineyards and winery being carried out. Prior to this the estate passed through several different owners who carried out their own changes including increasing the amount of Cabernet Franc included in the blend. The 1999 is 100% Merlot.

1982 Cheval Blanc, St-Émilion (1.5L)
Back In Stock!
96 points John Gilman: "This wine has now been very shut down for the last four or five years, and though there is so much raw material here that the wine is still a joy to drink, bottles sampled today only represent twenty-five percent of what this wine will show at its glorious apogee. The bouquet is unmistakably Cheval, with scents of black cherries, bell pepper, dark chocolate, menthol, tobacco, herbs, espresso and vanillin oak wafting from the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, black fruity, and totally dense at the center, with exc...

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Fabulous nose of toffee, coffee, smoke, cinnamon, minerals and a faint animal quality. Extraordinarily thick entry; great density and sweetness but with plenty of underlying acidity and backbone. As with the voluptuous ‘89, there's lovely delineation of flavor beneath all the glycerine. Finishes with a wave of melting tannins. Kept revealing additional nuances as it opened in the glass. Along with the '90 L'Angelus, a great example of what can be done with controlled yields, 100% new o...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and thickly layered, with boysenberry and fig paste flavors taking the lead, pushed by some hefty ganache and black licorice notes. The finish has an ample roasted apple wood injection holding sway, though there's good underlying cut thanks to a buried chalky minerality. Still seems like this will rely more on extraction in the end. (JM, Web-2016)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Clos Fourtet ’00 has a backward nose that takes time to evolve in the glass. Very pure dark berried fruit with cassis, blueberry, ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An outstanding, dark ruby/purple-hued effort with little lightening at the edge, the 1982 Canon exhibits plenty of crushed rock, red and black currant, and dusty, earthy, loamy notes. It is a full-bodied, powerful, slightly austere St.-Emilion with moderately high tannins. Believe it or not, this 1982 is not yet fully mature. It should drink well for another 10-15 years." (06/2009) Jancis Robinson: "Soft and appealing with real mineral notes. Very fruity and ready. Gentle, beguiling texture. Drink now!" (07/200...

97 points James Suckling: "This controversial wine is fresh and bright still, unlike many of the overrated 2003s. Full-bodied, tight and polished with beautiful intensity and verve. Blackberry and sweet tobacco. Wet earth. Subtle and complex. Straight and direct." (03/2018) 97 points Wine Spectator: "This is a stunner, with the warmth of the vintage marrying ideally with the relative coolness of the terroir to deliver a wide range of vivid plum, boysenberry, raspberry and cherry paste flavors that have energy and drive, carried by a long graphite note ...
Price: $319.99

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010's final blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc offers up impressive levels of red, blue and black fruits as well as some toasty oak and crushed rock, giving it minerality. Of course, the acidity in this vintage, with its lower pHs than 2009, provide a freshness and precision that is rare for wines so rich. This wine has plenty of tannin, so give it 4-6 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years. (RP) 95+" (02/2013) K&L Notes: 95 points Lisa Perotti-Brown in Wine Advocate: "The 2...

2009 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion 12-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Pure perfection in a glass, the incredible 2009 Troplong Mondot offers off the chart notes of blackcurrants, licorice, truffles and saddle leather that just soar from the glass. This is a big, ripe, incredibly sexy wine that hits the palate with a huge texture, building, ripe tannin, no weight, and a finish that just won't quit. Utterly brilliant stuff, it's slightly more approachable than the 2005, but both of these vintages play in the same style. Drink bottles anytime over the coming two to three decades. Bravo!" Here is a fine find from the Right Bank. Founded in 1704, this 14-hectare estate run by the Bardet family is located on gravelly/clay soils that impart depth and complexity to the wine. 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. We just discovered this property in 2019, and we have already sold quite a bit of their 1995 and 1996. Super old-school label for an “old school” property. This wine has lots of red berry aromas and flavors. It really opens up with some decanting.

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An elegant, pretty Quinault, the 2004 displays a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, rich nose of licorice, black raspberries, cherries, and spice. This blend of 71% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec possesses an excellent texture, beautiful elegance and complexity, and no hard edges. A seamlessly made, supple-textured, evolved, forward effort, it can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years. This is a very strong effort in a challenging vintage. (RP)" (06/2007) 90 poi...

A sentimental favorite because it marks one of the last vintages that Jean Paul Valette was involved with before he sold the estate. Mr. Valette was one of the friendliest and most hospitable proprietors in Bordeaux, and will be missed dearly.

Wine Spectator: "Medium garnet in color, with earthy aromas. Medium-bodied with sweet fruit, mushroom and earth flavors and a medium finish." (10/1990)
Price: $499.99

According to Robert Parker: "Aromas of dried herbs, chocolate, black cherry jam, earth, and spice emerge from this fleshy, ripe, medium to full-bodied, dark plum/ruby-hued 2003. It will provide lovely drinking now and over the next decade." (04/06)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The backward 1988 Pavie is a structured, tannic wine, balanced nicely by elegant, ripe, tobacco and black cherry-scented fruit, good acidity, and a long, spicy, tannic finish. (RP)" (02/1993) Vinous: "The 1988 Pavie is a vintage I have met a couple of times before, this predating Gérard Perse’s acquisition in 1997. It has an attractive old school nose of light black fruit, roof tiles and cedar; a little diffuse but still fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with a tart cherry entry, wild mushroom and sandalwood. Full bodied with lots of velvety tannins and a long finish. (JS)" (08/2000) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Perhaps the last great Pavie before Gerard Perse bought the estate in 1997. The 1990 Pavie sports a deep core with deep tawny rim and sports a very “classic” Pavie bouquet that is muted at first, but unfurls gracefully with intense cedar aromas deriving from the Cabernet Sauvignon. Underneath th...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The second wine of Château Cheval Blanc is packed with wood flavors and spice. A toasty wine, it also has solid tannins plus fragrant fruitiness. Already the fruit is coming through strongly and it is for medium-term aging. (RV)" (06/2014) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Polished, offering good mouthfeel to the layers of fig sauce, crushed plum and licorice. Judicious toast frames the finish, with a hint of charcoal adding length. A little lighter than when tasted from barrel, but still balanced and refined without trying too har...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This fully mature 1982 displays a weedy, herbaceous character interwoven with notions of earth, fruitcake, cherry jam, and spice box. Representative of the old style Pavies, it is moderately endowed, with ripe tannin, but not a great deal of concentration. (RP)" (06/2009) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good saturated full red. Exotic nose combines roasted raspberry, minerals and coffee; slight suggestions of old wine. Then sweet and minerally in the mouth, with nicely firm-edged fruit and good flavor deline...

90 points Wine Spectator: "Extremely well polished and fresh with plummy, toasted oak character. Medium-bodied with medium silky tannins and a long delicate finish. (JS)" (10/1994) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...The 1983 Pavie has an attractive bouquet of rich raspberry and plummy fruit intermingled with the scents of new oak and herbs. The color is still medium dark ruby, but some amber has crept in at the edge. On the palate, the wine is crammed with rich, opulent, expansive, red fruit flavors, but has enough acidity and tannin to give it grip an...

2010 Canon-La-Gaffelière, St-Emilion 6-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
96 points Wine Spectator: "This takes the power of the vintage and puts it in its pocket for later, preferring instead to let mouthwatering briar, loganberry, mulberry and blackberry fruit strut its way forward, enlivened with roasted wood spice and supported by suavely but thoroughly embedded iron-tinged structure. Should cruise for two decades. Best from 2016 through 2035. *Top 100 Wines of 2013, No. 2* (JM)" (03/2013) 94-95 points James Suckling: "This is tight and powerful. Solid frame of fruit and tannins. Curious about this. Like the 2009. This i...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of 77% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2009 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) is utter perfection, and man, what a wine. Deep, inky, incredibly concentrated, yet also silky and weightless, it delivers that rare mix of intensity and weightlessness on the palate. Offering layers of blackcurrants, crushed flowers, lead pencil, incense and loads of spice-box, it shows the intensity and rich of the 2009 vintage yet is perfectly balanced, has building tannins, and a huge finish. 96 points Vinous: "The sophomore 2009 Belair-Monange has been variable from bottle to bottle so I was taken aback at the impressive performance here. It has a very opulent bouquet with plush red fruit, patisserie, candied orange peel, fig and dates. This is very open and expressive, very gourmand in style and though atypical, it is very seductive. The palate is almost viscous on the entry with plush red fruit, a touch of black pepper and oregano, slightly medicinal in style but very persistent. Blind, I thought it might be Tertre-Rôteboeuf but it turned ...
