2018 My Favorite Neighbor (Booker) "Harvey & Harriet" Paso Robles Red Blend
Top Pick!
93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted out of barrel, the 2018 Harvey and Harriet sports a deep purple color as well as a powerful bouquet of ripe black fruits, tobacco leaf, smoked earth, dark chocolate, and Asian spice. Full-bodied, ripe, and incredibly sexy on the palate, it has hints of background oak, a rounded, opulent texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's one serious, pleasure-bent beauty. The Harvey and Harriet release is named after Jensen’s parents and includes small amounts of Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec. It’s made to be the more black-...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has a medium to deep ruby color with spicy wild blackberries, blackcurrants, kirsch, pepper and cedar on the nose plus touches of tobacco, dried herbs, potpourri and red fruit sparks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is classically styled with restrained red and black fruits and loads of spices. It has a firm, fine-grained frame and seamless freshness on the long, nuanced finish." 91 points Vinous: "Deep ruby-red. Black currant, cherry, pipe tobacco and woodsmoke on the highly fragra...

Vinous: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles shows just how appealing the vintage is. Aging in steel and bottling early brings out the aromatic, juicy side of Cabernet. The 2016 is not exactly complex, but it is absolutely delicious. It will make a terrific house pour over the next few years. (AG)" (09/2019) K&L Notes: Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for killer values need look no further than this Foxglove releases from Jim and Bob Varner." (JD, 10/2016) Great wines at very good prices. That is what you get from Foxglove. This is a side project fr...

Andrew Jones learned to make wine from the ground up. He started as a vine nursery fieldman, planting and planning vineyards for wineries all over California. This gave him firsthand knowledge of nearly every vineyard on the Central Coast and a knack for finding "diamonds in the rough." Meanwhile, he was building friendships with some great California growers, who'd often offer him small lots of their best grapes on the side. From these beginnings he has built a catalog of delicious, affordable wines that hum with personality.

Two winemakers who were already producing some serious Central Coast wines, Curt Schalchlin, founder of Sans Liege, and Andrew Jones, who started Field Recordings, teamed up to launch The Fabelist Wine Co. Winery notes: "Vibrant black currant, cedar and vanilla hit your tongue, as you're warmed by the comforts of mint and eucalyptus. A strong finish wraps you in a fond embrace."

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Blackberry, blueberries, tar, toasted spice, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2016 Petite Sirah (there’s 12% Syrah in the blend) and it's ripe and polished on the palate, with full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a great finish." (10/2019) 93 points Vinous: "Dark purple. Deep-pitched, spice-tinged black and blue fruit, licorice, cola and mocha scents gain energy and pick up a smoky mineral quality as the wine opens up. Densely packed but surprisingly lively black currant, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors stretc...

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blended barrel sample, the 2018 Patelin de Tablas Blanc is comprised of 48% Grenache Blanc, 22% Viognier, 13% Roussanne, 12% Marsanne and 5% Clairette Blanche. It opens with bruised apple and some wooly funk on the nose, fleshing out to quince, peach, honeycomb and beeswax with oodles of floral and mineral nuance. It's medium-bodied and broad in the mouth with intense, honeyed fruits, just enough freshness and a long, classically bitter finish. (EB)" (09/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Vivid straw-yellow. Fresh, ...

90-92 points Vinous: "Glass-staining ruby. Perfumed aromas of ripe, spice-tinged dark berries and candied flowers pick up an exotic suggestion of apricot as the wine opens up. Silky and energetic in style, offering sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a suave touch of Asian spices. Takes a sweet turn on the gently tannic, persistent finish and leaves a note of candied flowers behind. (JR)" (09/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a great core of black plum and dark berry to the nose of this blend of 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 16% Mou...

Wine Enthusiast: "Broad aromas of caramelized red cherry and dried herbs make for a pleasantly savory entry to this bottling from the historic estate. There is a solid amount of herbal expression on the palate, where the dried oregano sets off the tangy black-plum flavors. (MK)" (04/2019)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Perhaps my favorite grand cru site for Central Coast Syrah is the James Berry Vineyard, which is planted in pure limestone soil on the west side of Paso Robles. Seventy-five percent whole clusters are used. The riveting, opaque purple-tinged 2004 Syrah James Berry Vineyard displays a sumptuous bouquet of scorched earth, blackberries, cassis, tar, and licorice. It cuts a full-bodied swath across the palate with multiple layers of flavor, a huge texture, and fabulous freshness as well as vibrancy, no doubt because ...

93-95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard is one of the most distinctive wines in this range. Intense, deep aromatics give the 2018 so much of its personality. 96-98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From Booker Vineyard, the 2016 Tempranillo is another killer wine, and I'd wager one of the best examples of the variety coming out of Paso. Focused, full-bodied, tight and with plenty of tannin, it has lots of cassis, cedar like spice and dried herb aromas and flavors." (08/2017)

97-99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Hold onto your hats with this one, the 2014 My Favorite Neighbor Proprietary Blend will see 24 months in barrel, and there will only be a single cuvee in 2014. This insanely good barrel sample gives up serious, inky, yet pure notes of violets, licorice, black raspberries, creme de cassis and graphite to go with building tannin, a stacked mid-palate and blockbuster length. I'd like to have a case of it in the cellar. (JD)" (08/2016)

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Claude's Cuvée is an interesting blend of 52% Syrah, 22% Grenache, 10% Mataro, 8% Tempranillo, and 8% Carignan that was raised mostly in French oak. It offers a more earthy, meaty bouquet of spiced black fruits, cedarwood, leafy herbs, and herbed meat. Beautifully textured and full-bodied, it offers ripe, polished tannins and a great, great finish. It ranks with the best of the best and will cruise for a decade in cool cellars." 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium to deep ruby colored 2017 Claude's Cuvée...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A massive, gorgeously rich and decadent version of this cuvee, the 2014 Estate Cuvée (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Syrah and 15% Petit Verdot) is reminiscent of a 2005 Pomerol with its huge bouquet of cassis, toasted spice, graphite, damp earth and leafy herb aromas and flavors. Thick, full-bodied, unctuous and palate-saturating, yet still with purity and grace, it's an insanely good Bordeaux blend (or close) from Paso Robles that will have two decades of overall longevity. 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Zinfandel-dominated 2017 Westberg Red (which includes 24% Tempranillo) is another saturated purple-colored effort from winemaker Don Burns that offers an earthy, meaty bouquet of black fruits, plums, Asian spices, flowers incense, and blood orange. It's ripe, sexy, rounded, and just a beautiful drink. I’d be thrilled to have bottles in the cellar." With Petit Verdot making up 60% of the blend, this wine is seriously deep in color. Sourced from four vineyards in four different AVAs throughout California, including the famous Star Lane in Napa, it's a completely different take on a Bordeaux blend. Wine Enthusiast: "Broad and ripe aromas of Pink Lady apple, ripe pear and tangerine cream lead into a slightly tropical corner of tuberose with a mineral dash of rainy cement on the varied nose of this bottling. It's crisp with those wet concrete flavors on the palate, followed by Key lime peel and honeydew. (MK)" (03/2020) Wine Spectator: "Tangy lemon-lime flavors are accented by lemon verbena notes on the finish, with a touch of grapefruit pith. (MW, Web Only-2020)"

92 points Vinous: "Pale gold. Fresh pear, melon and Meyer lemon aromas are complemented by a gingery nuance that builds in the glass. Juicy and focused on the palate, showing very good clarity and firm bite to the lively citrus and orchard fruit flavors, which take on a floral element with aeration. The nervy, persistent finish features a repeating floral note and a late, refreshingly bitter jolt of citrus pith. This fruit is fully ripe at 12.5% alcohol, according to Anthony Yount, "so why let it hang and lose freshness?" (JR)" (02/2020)

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Densely purple scents of blackberry jam, plum, cola, cherry extract and dried violet syrup overcome the nose on this wine from a property once owned by a famous composer.
