Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (97JD, 96RP, 95WS, 94ST, 92JS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Sourced from all of Justin’s Vineyards (mostly James Berry Vineyard) and showing every bit as impressive from bottle as from barrel, the knockout 2009 Saxum Broken Stones is a blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 12% Petite Sirah, 8% Grenache that spent close to 19 months in barrel. Exotic and masculine at first, with copious amounts of black fruits, wild herbs, mineral, and gorgeous floral characteristics literally soaring from the glass, it fleshes out in the glass and shows more finesse and elegance than you would think possible from such a rich, concentrated wine. Nevertheless, it’s full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with fantastic freshness and purity, as well as a boatload of finely polished tannin. It needs to be forgotten for 3-5 years, possibly longer, and will shine for upwards of two decades or more. " (06/2012)
