While we have to remain quiet about the source of this lovely red blend from Paso Robles, which contains 36% Syrah, 22% Primitivo (Zinfandel), 19% Grenache, and a few other grapes, we can tell you that it sells elsewhere at a higher premium. Get it while it lasts.

Vinous: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles shows just how appealing the vintage is. Aging in steel and bottling early brings out the aromatic, juicy side of Cabernet. The 2016 is not exactly complex, but it is absolutely delicious. It will make a terrific house pour over the next few years. (AG)" (09/2019) K&L Notes: Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for killer values need look no further than this Foxglove releases from Jim and Bob Varner." (JD, 10/2016) Great wines at very good prices. 91 points Vinous: "Pale gold. Mineral-accented orange, pear and white flowers on the perfumed nose, along with a gingery nuance that adds spicy lift. Taut citrus and orchard fruit flavors unfurl slowly and show hints of bitter quinine and anise that build slowly with air. Shows very good depth as well as energy on the finish, which echoes the mineral and citrus fruit notes. (JR)" (09/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Patelin de Tablas Blanc wafts from the glass with notes of rose water, preserved citrus and Provence herbs. On the...

90-92 points Vinous: "Glass-staining ruby. Perfumed aromas of ripe, spice-tinged dark berries and candied flowers pick up an exotic suggestion of apricot as the wine opens up. Silky and energetic in style, offering sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a suave touch of Asian spices. Takes a sweet turn on the gently tannic, persistent finish and leaves a note of candied flowers behind. (JR)" (09/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a great core of black plum and dark berry to the nose of this blend of 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 16% Mou...

Andrew Jones learned to make wine from the ground up. He started as a vine nursery fieldman, planting and planning vineyards for wineries all over California. This gave him firsthand knowledge of nearly every vineyard on the Central Coast and a knack for finding "diamonds in the rough." Meanwhile, he was building friendships with some great California growers, who'd often offer him small lots of their best grapes on the side. From these beginnings he has built a catalog of delicious, affordable wines that hum with personality.

Two winemakers who were already producing some serious Central Coast wines, Curt Schalchlin, founder of Sans Liege, and Andrew Jones, who started Field Recordings, teamed up to launch The Fabelist Wine Co. Winery notes: "Vibrant black currant, cedar and vanilla hit your tongue, as you're warmed by the comforts of mint and eucalyptus. A strong finish wraps you in a fond embrace."

91 points Vinous: "Youthful violet. Smoke-accented cherry and cassis qualities on the fragrant nose, along with a hint of toasty oak in the background. Juicy and energetic on the palate, showing spicy lift to the bitter cherry and dark berry flavors, which become deeper with air. Shows very good clarity and finishes with good, spicy tenacity and a touch of dusty tannins. 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very light pink with a hint of yellow in the glass, this blend of 76% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 4% Counoise from nine vineyards offers aromas of chalky lemon and nectarine on the delicate nose. The texture is grippy with chalk on the palate, offering flavors of strawberry, pluot flesh and a spritz of citrus. (MK)" (06/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Light bright orange. Ripe red berries, nectarine, orange zest and a sexy floral quality on the perfumed nose. Silky in texture and well-concentrated, offering juicy citrus and pit fru...

From winemaker Andrew Jones comes this esoteric delight, a lightly sparkling (and lightly colored) rosé of Cabernet Franc made in the pétillant naturel style. Timing is everything with this wine as it must be bottled and capped with just the right amount of remaining natural sugars to continue fermentation (thus, creating captured carbonation). It's not an easy trick to pull off, but when it goes right, it really goes right.

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc from this producer is a complex and lively white wine to balance their rich red portfolio. Aromas of jalapeño, green herbs and wet cement meet with nectarine on the nose, while the zesty palate combines bell pepper, lime peel, peach and tropical fruit. *Editors’ Choice* (MK)" (07/2019)

At the core of Foxglove is Bob Varner, also the winemaker at Varner Wines. Beginning with their first vintage in 1991, Bob sources the wine from a variety of places, all of which are in Edna Valley. The resulting wine has Central Coast appellation pricing, and is full of complex fruit flavors that the Edna Valley appellation is known for. Edna Valley, a relatively small appellation, grows mostly Chardonnay on about 1000 acres. The entire acreage is tightly controlled by a few owners employing the most up-to-date vineyard practices that give the valley ...

Winery notes: The 2017 Merlot opens with dusty aromas of boysenberry, black cherry, vanilla and toasted oak. A soft, rounded texture delivers mouthfilling flavors of blueberry, blackberry, cinnamon, dark chocolate and cola. Velvety tannins are finely integrated into a rich, chewy finish. The wine is aged in a combination of French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels, 25% of which are new. A small lot of Zinfandel (7%) was incorporated into the final blend to amplify mid-palate fruitiness. Recommended pairings include beef tenderloin, pasta with lamb r...

90 points Vinous: "Opaque ruby. Oak-spiced cherry and blackberry on the deeply perfumed nose. Lush, sweet and broad on the palate, offering smoke-accented dark fruit flavors and a touch of mocha. About this producer: "Opolo’s estate vineyards were established from 1994-1996, with sites on both the west and east side of Paso Robles. The topographically diverse, coastal landscape of the westside vineyards provides for an intense and unique flavor profile. The heat and dryness of the east side vineyard make it an ideal microclimate for growing Bordeaux varietals. Home to a wide range of varietals, the estate vineyards help allow the team at Opolo to create many unique single varietals as well as award winning blends."

Winemaker's notes: "This is one of my favorite wines to make each year, because I believe that producing a truly stunning Pinot Gris is actually quite difficult. Modeled after an Alsatian style of PG, its focused on texture and elegance, with the perfect combination of richness and ultra bright acidity. My block at Spanish Springs is all very low yielding hillside fruit that grows in about 80% sand. 12 hours of skin contact precedes a very gentle pressing, followed by a slow fermentation in neutral oak barrels. Twice weekly lees stirring helps to build s...

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Syrah dominated 2015 Predator (there's 75% Syrah, 15% Petite Sirah, and 10% Monastrell) gives up lots of black and blue fruits, hints of white chocolate, and sappy flowers in a ripe, opulent, sexy, concentrated style. Winery Notes: "Clean and stony, our Fiano lends itself to a simple stainless-steel fermentation and maturation in the cellar. The 2018 was sourced from two neighboring vineyards in northwest Paso Robles that produce intensely flavorful fruit with plentry of lively acidity. Destemmed and crushed in the early a.m., the grapes are left to soak on its skins for a few hours before a delicate basket pressing. It then proceeds untouched through alcoholic and partial malolactic fermentation, then filtered and bottled in mid February. Tasting notes: Along with ...

The 2017 Bishop's Peak has yet to be professionally reviewed, but the 2016 did receive a score of 90pts from Vinous. Connoisseurs Guide: "As is the case with its siblings from Opolo, this is a Zinfandel little concerned with subtlety and constraint. It runs straightway to heady, late-harvest ripeness with a sweep of chocolate to its juicy and jammy, berry-like fruit, yet that fruit holds its ground against tannin and heat, and its balancing acidity keeps it away from heavy-footed softness. It is a wine of a style, and not one to pour with milder foods, but those who like their Zins big and ripe will have no complaints. *One Star*" (01/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This is ...

Vinous: "Light yellow. Ripe citrus fruits and melon on the fragrant nose and in the mouth. Smooth and fleshy in texture, showing good energy and a seamless quality on the vaguely warm finish. (JR)" (09/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "Crisp aromas of honeysuckle, Anjou pear and green apple lead into more layers of grass, nectarine and wet stone on this bottling, which evolves quickly in the glass. There is strong tension to the palate, where floral flavors meet with honeydew and lemon zest. (MK)" (10/2018) Wine Spectator: "Tangy, with a core of grapefruit and...

The land known as Hilltop Ranch, purchased in 1971 by founders Don and Elizabeth Van Steenwyk, has humble beginnings as a peaceful family sanctuary. Through decades of meticulous planning and creativity, the family built what is now known as Adelaida Vineyards & Winery. Winery note: "Pinot Noir is the heart and soul of our winemaking quest. Rarely found in the warm Paso Robles AVA, our 33 acre site overcomes the conventional wisdom of inappropriateness. Its coastal mountain microclimate and affinity for the indigenous limestone are precursors of its pote...

91 points Vinous: "Youthful purple. Ripe, spice-accented cherry, dark berries and candied flowers on the deeply scented nose and in the mouth. Silky and open-knit; a building peppery element adds vivacity to sweet blueberry and cherry flavors. Bitter chocolate and allspice notes come up on the clinging finish, which is shaped by smooth tannins. In the context of California Cabernet, this wine delivers fantastic value. Strong acidity drives the finish. *Editors' Choice* (MK)" (10/2019) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is very promising, revealing a youthfully primary bouquet of currants and plums that's already integrated its new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, richly structured and generous, with a sun-kissed c...
