Wine Enthusiast: "This blend of 50% Negroamaro, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Primitivo offers a bright, zesty nose of mixed berries alongside lifted pepper and graphite accents. There's a tense, grippy feel to the tannins, with bright shots of acidity propelling the crunchy berry flavors along. A light cherry pit note extends on the finish. *Best Buy*" (11/2019) Wine Spectator: "A bright, light- to medium-bodied red, with light, creamy tannins and a fruity mix of candied cherry, crushed raspberry, bay leaf and orange peel flavors. 2017 Clos de los Siete Red Blend Mendoza
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "A very refined, creamy wine, showing blackberries and blueberries with chocolate and light hazelnut notes. Medium to full body. The fine tannins are polished and creamy and the beautiful, reserved finish goes on for a really long time. Wow! Best ever, because of its length and beauty. One for the palate or the cellar. Drink or hold." (03/2020) 93 points Decanter: "Remarkable intensity of black fruit, spice and mocha, this elegant, single-vineyard Malbec-based blend by noted Bordeaux-based consultant Michel Rolland showcases i...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP)" (01/1989) 91 points Wine Spectator: "This was never a great Graham, but it's outstanding quality nonetheless. Medium ruby-red. Aromas of milk chocolate, plum, m...

2016 Tolaini "Al Passo" Toscana
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "A really endearing red that shows dried herbs, fresh blueberries, tobacco and cedar. Lithe and very tangy on the palate, which is medium-to full-bodied, elegant and dialed-in. The fine tannins add to a delicate but muscular impression on the medium-chewy finish." (04/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are three grapes here in more or less equal measure: Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. You'll find sturdy notes of tilled earth in the 2016 Al Passo, with lots of intensity and ripe fruit. It would ma...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Falaise is a winner and comes close to matching the stunning 2017. Based on Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignan from the La Clape AOC, the Grenache and Mourvedre were aged in tank and the Syrah in 300-liter barrels. Beautiful cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as complex blood orange, spice, violet, and licorice notes all flow to a medium to full-bodied, incredibly pure red that has silky tannins, beautiful balance, and a great, great finish. It’s a rocking little gem of a wine!" (06/2020) 92 points Robert Pa...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Meandro do Vale Meão is a blend of 33% Touriga Franca, 45% Touriga Nacional, 15% Tinta Roriz, with Tinta Barroca and Alicante Bouschet for the rest, all aged for 14 months in used French oak. It comes in at 14% alcohol. This was bottled a few weeks before tasting. Another 2017 with big flavor and expressive fruit, this also has a fresh feel, reasonable concentration and a beautiful, long finish. It adds admirable mid-palate finesse too. It sometimes seems a bit lighter and fresher, but its utterly gorgeo...

Made from the same set of recipes since 1821, Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry has long been the benchmark for fine French Vermouth. Botanicals found in the Alpine meadows above Chambéry are added to a base wine made from regional grapes to aromatize it, imparting fresh, herbal qualities to the nose and complex flavors to palate. It is then fortified. The Rouge is ideal as an aperitif or in for a wide range of uses in cocktails. In the late 19th century, Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry won medals in Paris, London, St. Louis and Philadelphia and in 1932 earned Chamb...

2019 Domaine Petroni Corse Rosé (Corsica)
Top Pick!
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine, surprisingly rich, has a fine, elegant character. Balanced red fruits, bright acidity and a lively texture. It has all come together in this complex and fresh wine. Drink now. (RV)" (11/2020) Wine Spectator: "A light talc hint gives way to peach and strawberry notes, ending with a lightly bracing, cherry pit-tinged finish. (JM)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: Corsica is one of the great, off-the-radar regions for wine production. The vineyards for Petroni date back to 1885 and are surrounded by the Corsican mountains to t...

A blend of the traditional Valpolicella varieties sourced from three of the estate's vineyard sites, this is a gorgeous expression of Amarone for a stupendous price. From the winery: "Made from a selection of the best native grapes, which are processed following the 'appassimento' method for three months, in line with an age-old tradition in Valpolicella. It is garnet-red in colour, with a full, dry, velvety taste, and intense aromas of cherries macerated in alcohol, wild berries and spices. Uncork a few hours before drinking and serve at 18-20°C."

2017 Domaine Petroni Corse Rouge

Spicy and fruity, the wine is ready to drink. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (03/2020) Wine Spectator: "Fresh black cherry and red currant fruit mingles with rosemary, violet and chalk notes. 2014 Château Montus Madiran
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the latest release from this Madiran showpiece estate on steep vineyards surrounding a grand chateau. The wine is black, firm and full of tannins while allowing room for swathes of dark fruits and a bold structure. It is still in the aging process. *Ranked #51 Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2018* (RV)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: Château Montus is the crown jewel in Alain Brumont's holdings. Purchased in 1980, it was Brumont's ideal property. Steep hillsides plus the gravelly vineyards with yellow and red clay subsoils made f...

92 points James Suckling: "Ripe plums, dried lavender, basil, tar, licorice and hot stones show here on the nose. Medium to full body, fresh acidity, round yet tight tannins and a fruity finish." (10/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I really like the 2015 Montefalco Rosso and am happy to recommend this attractive value wine. It shows dark fruit and spice with a supple and round style. There is not too much dimension here, but the wine is upfront and immediate instead. I make roasted chicken according to an old family recipe with roasted ...

Old-vine, hillside vineyard Lambrusco = serious fun! This is a magnificent wine: dry, slightly fizzy with just a mess of purple froth. We are pretty confident it will be among the most exciting wines you've tried in a while! A perfect match for simple BBQ chicken and burgers or slices of Mortadella and Parmigiano. Some would even venture to suggest a batch of lasagna!

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The I Cacciagalli estate focuses on natural wines, some of which are made in clay amphorae (with long skin macerations, and fermentations with ambient yeasts). This expression, the 2017 Phos, shows pretty elegance and tightness that is further underscored by the naturally high tannins of the Aglianico grape. This wine opens a window onto the grape in its most naked state. This is a rare perspective on a variety that is often plied with extra oak and aging time. Instead, here you taste the natural bitterness of th...

New!
Perched above the Dão river itself as it snakes through its granite valleys, the Adega de Penalva is one of the leading cooperatives in the area, boasting around a thousand member growers. It’s important to note, though, that the average holding per member amounts to barely over a hectare. 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and 30% Jaen (Mencía). Hand-harvested, fully destemmed and aged in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tank.

This wine is all about fun. A light and refreshing red that is best served with a light chill. It's flat out irresistible as a crushable, crunchy red built to be served with less serious fare. 2017 Paolo Caciorgna "Guardoilvento" Etna Rosso
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Aromas of currants, smoke, orange peel, geraniums and hints of eucalyptus. It’s medium-bodied and juicy with lots of gently bitter citrus zest and spice. Sleek, refined tannins. Complex, yet so easy to drink." (12/2020)
Price: $34.99

Lighter bodied reds don't get enough love, but this vivid and flavorful, deceptively light red is a great one to have on a porch during a hot summer day. Serve on a slight chill! Producer's notes: "The wine making process is traditional. The grapes, that are handpicked and destalked, macerate within a stainless steel tank for about 10 days. In the meantime, the temperature is daily checked, the cap is regularly punched down and the wine is accompanied of several pumping-overs. To the mouth, the wine is easy to drink. The bouquet is franc without being a...

93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Donnaluna Aglianico presents a dark and spicy mix of crushed black fruits, infused with smoky minerals, hints of olive, and savory herbs. On the palate, silky textures flood the senses with a beautiful display of ripe blackberry, offset by hints of citrus, with saline-minerals and dark inner florals, as brisk acids maintain a wonderfully fresh expression. The finish is long and savory, tugging at the senses with youthful tannin, yet remaining energetic, as black fruits and savory spices slowly fade, leaving dark inner floral t...

91 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red with lots of dried fruit, spice and dark chocolate character. Full body, rich and flavorful." (03/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Vitiano Rosso offers enormous value. In fact, I cannot for the life of me think of another red wine from Italy that offers this quality at this super low price. This Umbrian red is equal parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Winemaking is very simple, concluding with an easy three months in barrique. The bouquet is bright, easy and fresh with dark c...

91 points Vinous: "A classic combination went into this Carménère from Colchagua, which boasts a rich structure and mouthfeel with ripe aromas. The point is that here the style is very well-executed. A reddish purple with a slight orange hue thanks to its 12-month aging process, it offers up pyrazine, ripe blackberries, black pepper and wood. In the mouth it is fleshy, rich and warm with mature, firm, well-polished tannins and a long finish where the wood comes back to the party. Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, between the Tirino and Pescara valleys at the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella. The location's favorable climate, varied terrain and clay chalk and skeleton-rich rocky subsoils result in some of the best wines coming out of Italy today. Made by husband-and-wife team Franco and Mimma from vineyards at 550 meters above sea level, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is aromatic, balanced, and elegant. The perfect weeknight red.

Amats is both the brand name of the Txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Beltza grapes, this rosé shows a lovely balance between fresh red berries, hints of watermelon, a very subtle, pleasant bitterness and fizzy quality. It's delicious with cured cheeses (something slightly smoky like Idiazabal works really well), charcuterie, anchovies or your favorite cured ham ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous red blend 2015 Ferrer-Bobet looks for elegance and freshness as a way to express the character of the terroir. It's a blend of 55% Cariñena, 25% Garnacha, 15% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French barriques for 12 months. The nose has tons of aromatic herbs, thyme and rosemary and even mint, coming through as aromatic and balsamic. It has a little more body than the 2016, but it's equally balanced, in a more powerful vintage. I like it as much as the 2016, even a tad more. 23,727 bottles...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The truly impressive 2018 Ultreia Saint Jacques transcends its price category. They destemmed more grapes because they fermented it in the oak vats they bought from Vega Sicilia to use in the new winery, where it macerated for two months and then matured in used barrels for nine to 10 months. The secret is to use very good grapes from very good vineyards. The wine is clean, precise and fresh, and the oak is super-subtle, almost unnoticeable. The palate reflects a fluid wine of pleasure, a red of thirst. This is t...

Filipa Pato "3B" Rosé Extra Bruto Bairrada
Back In Stock!
92 points Wine & Spirits: "A 75/25 blend of red-skinned baga and white bical, this is a rich sparkler that brings to mind a shellfish broth with its vibrant salinity, and a raspberry mousse with its supple, refreshing fruit flavors. It’s creamy, with plenty of acidity and bubble to finish on a lovely, clean fragrance. Pour it with grilled langoustines or other rich shellfish." (02/2019) K&L Notes: A blend of red Baga and white Bical grapes, this is a fantastic, very low dosage (this is DRY!) rosé sparkler. Filipa Pato learned from Mr. Bairrada himself,...

Broc is a San Francisco Bay area urban winery with a focus on Rhône varietal wines. This blend is 77% Carignan, 15% Valdiguié, and 8% Syrah sourced from Arrowhead Mountain and Buck Hill Vineyard. This is the sixth vintage of the Love Red, and the grapes come from 70+-year-old vines. The Valdiguié and Syrah were 100% whole cluster fermented, and the Carignan is a combination of whole cluster and destemmed fruit from four dry farmed vineyards. Aged for 8 months in neutral French oak barrels and concrete and blended before bottling.

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The sweetest and richest in the Historic series, the New York Malmsey unfolds slowly in the glass, gradually revealing layers of depth and flavor. Coffee, toffee and date notes emerge, followed by earthy, almost truffley flavors. Powerful and assertive on the long finish. *Editors' Choice* (JC)" (11/2006) 92 points John Gilman: "The Rare Wine Company’s New York Malmsey is a bit darker in color than the Boston Bual, and carries closer to five percent residual sugar. The wine is quite a bit deeper-pitched aromatically than th...

Here is a Priorat that is not at all shy or trying to hide its Mediterranean origins, a richer, fuller bodied style especially considering its modest price. That said, the wine has become increasingly fresher, a development that is particularly apparent in this juicy, well delineated 2016. It is a well-balanced, tasty blend of Garnacha, Carignane, and just a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.

90 points James Suckling: "A firm and silky red with berry and stone character, medium body and a fresh finish." (08/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "This boasts aromas of ripe strawberry, violet and a touch of eucalyptus. The light-bodied, juicy palate offers raspberry jam, cinnamon and red cherry alongside fresh acidity and smooth tannins. (KO)" (02/2018)

This is the Bordeaux-meets-Rhône blend you never knew you wanted. Jean-Louis Denois is an iconoclast, as independently-minded and attentive to the character of the terroir in which he cultivates his grapes as anyone we’ve encountered. This talented winemaker has an exceptional track record with K&L customers and staff alike. He creates consistently unique wines with brilliantly rendered fruit from a medley of grapes, and the 2017 Les Garrigues named for the uncultivated thyme and rosemary scrub that grows everywhere there-is an expressive blend of Syrah,...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Riserva Don Antonio delivers an explosive bouquet that is comprised of equal parts dark fruit, spice and savory tobacco. This wine sees 20 days of fermentation on the skins and finishes up with malolactic fermentation in steel vats. It then ages in French barrique for 12 months. It's a standard winemaking approach for an exceptional expression of Sicily's most important red grape. This is a medium to full-bodied red with ample texture and roundness on the finish. Do you feel that 15%...

As Vinous notes: "Paltrinieri is... the best producer of Lambrusco di Sorbara today." Across their broad portfolio, the wines show excellent refinement, finesse, and elegance. The family run estate dates back to 1926 and has in recent years been at the forefront of drawing a resurgence of interest in Lambrusco. When it comes to delicious, quaffable, and food friendly bubbles, you won't do much better.

89-91 points Vinous: "The NV Red Old Vine Lot 70 OVR is generous and expressive from the very first taste. Black cherry, plum, spice and leather all flesh out in this wonderfully inviting, budget friendly Zinfandel-based red. (AG)" (04/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Mint and chocolate notes merge with ripe blackberries in this fullbodied but polished wine that has good balance and mild tannins. Made from multiple vintages, it’s a timeless, value-oriented Zinfandel blend that keeps on truckin’. (JG)" (02/2021) K&L Notes: "One of California's fine...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The red 2018 Mestizaje was produced with a blend of 70% Bobal, 19% Garnacha and 11% full-cluster Syrah from head-pruned and dry-farmed vines from their El Terrerazo estate planted mostly in the early 1990s on limestone soils. Each plot and grape variety was fermented separately with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and oak vats. It matured in a mixture of oak vats and French barrique for 11 months (there has been a change toward more and more vats and almost no barrels). This has a creamy touch, attractive, a...

91 points Wine Spectator: "This has matured nicely, settling in with a mix of mulled black currant and plum fruit, carried by a finely grained alder spine and backed by a warm Christmas pudding note. Drink now through 2023. 7,000 cases made, 1,500 cases imported. (JM)" (05/2020)

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Yeasty mellowness is all that the shy nose gives away. The dark-pink hue of this wine promises body and fruit, which duly appear on the creamy palate. Mellow strawberry and apple pair with gentle freshness. A chalky texture supports the frothy foam while freshness highlights the dry roundness of the finish. (AK)" (09/2020) K&L Notes: The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s—the 1680s. Nine successive generations have labored to maintain and e...

From the producer: "This wine comes from around a hectare of some of our oldest vines, planted in the commune of Les Arsures, situated at 347 meters above sea level, in the area known as en Grevillière. The soil here is prefered by the Trousseau grape. It is made up of a thick layer of clay with a gritty surface lying over a limestone dome. The clay is produced by the decomposition of the limestone. The vines face due south and thus benefit from the sun all day long. Aged at around 50 years old, the harvests are consistent and always give Trousseaus that...
