Here is a Priorat that is not at all shy or trying to hide its Mediterranean origins, a richer, fuller bodied style especially considering its modest price. That said, the wine has become increasingly fresher, a development that is particularly apparent in this juicy, well delineated 2016. It is a well-balanced, tasty blend of Garnacha, Carignane, and just a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Laurel is a blend of the younger vines, some barrels that were declassified from Clos Erasmus and the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon, and in the low-yielding and dry 2017 vintage, it's 70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 15% alcohol. The wine fermented mostly in concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in a combination of oak vats, concrete, used barriques and amphorae for 16 months. They produce this to be approachable from the moment it's released. The 2017s feel very...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous red blend 2015 Ferrer-Bobet looks for elegance and freshness as a way to express the character of the terroir. It's a blend of 55% Cariñena, 25% Garnacha, 15% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French barriques for 12 months. The nose has tons of aromatic herbs, thyme and rosemary and even mint, coming through as aromatic and balsamic. It has a little more body than the 2016, but it's equally balanced, in a more powerful vintage. I like it as much as the 2016, even a tad more. 23,727 bottles...

91 points James Suckling: "A dense and tangy white with dried pineapple, apple and lemon-rind character. Full body. Thick yet fresh. Drink now. " (07/2019) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The fruit-driven and young 2018 Font de la Figuera Blanco has aromas of white fruit and a touch of fennel and Mediterranean herbs. It's fresh and has nice balance, balsamic flavors and a dry, faintly bitter finish. It ends quite tasty and with focused, pure flavors. (LG)" (08/2019)

93 points James Suckling: "Wonderful aromas of crushed blackberries, licorice, tar and bark follow to a full body with round, chewy tannins and fantastic depth of fruit and intensity. Needs time to come together, but so structured. Try after 2022" (10/2020) K&L Notes: A blend of Garnacha, Samso (Carignan), Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah it is fermented in tank and then aged in 500L used French oak barrels. This wine has always been considered the "entry level" offering for Clos Figueras, a brighter fresher interpretation of the region. This is an unado...

Based in Porrera, Nin Ortiz is seen by many as possibly the most exciting of Priorat's third wave, nipping on the heals of pioneers such as Clos Mogador, Mas Martinet, Alvaro Palacios and Clos Erasmus. In fact, Ester Nin still manages the vineyards at Clos Erasmus. She and her partner Carles Ortiz employ biodynamic practices in their vineyards, all located in Porrera. They are of the school of thought that favors a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena, without any foreign grape varieties included in the blend. Ester and Carles' humble, tiny production winery i...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017s feel relaxed, something unusual in Priorat. The 2017 Clos Martinet has seen a change, as they stopped using the sorting table and stopped using the pied de cuve, because the harvest was very easy. They harvested in August—the earliest ever until 2018—and they didn't have time to do anything; so, they put the grapes in the vats and let them ferment, and that's what they have been doing ever since. They feel that there is less manipulation of the grapes now, and that could have helped to make wines more r...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "93+ "The 2018 Martinet Bru is a wine that was born in 1990 and is now their way into Priorat but more about the stone than the fruit, less ripe than in the beginning, with complexity rather than voluptuosity. It's a blend of Garnacha, Cariñena, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from three organically farmed vineyards between Falset and Torroja. The grapes are picked early but at different times, fermented with some full clusters, co-fermented when possible (Garnacha-Syrah-Merlot and Cariñena-Syrah-Cabernet) wi...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The origin of everything here and the first single-vineyard red, 2018 Finca Dofí excels in 2018. Those 10 hectares planted 20 years ago in the village of Gratallops are mostly Garnacha, but the wine also has some 8% Cariñena and 2% white grapes. They all fermented after being destemmed and lightly crushed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts. The wine matured in large oak barrels (bocoyes and foudres) for 16 months. This is the refined version of the Gratallops (the vineyard is in the village!) but with an extra de...
