2015 E. Guigal Hermitage Rouge (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and polished, driven by mouthwatering raspberry, blueberry and blackberry sauce flavors racing through, inlaid with a graphite spine and backed by mouthwatering apple wood and anise notes on the finish. Solidly built and vibrant from start to finish. (JM)" (02/2019) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "This is built for the long haul, with 36 months in oak barrels, half of them new, contributing plenty of oak spice, sweetness and polish. Its complexity comes up as the wood notes vanish into a warm, ripe mouthful of plummy flavor. ...Read More »

2016 Domaine des Rémizières Crozes-Hermitage

90 points Wine Spectator: "Charming and fresh, with light violet, white pepper and lavender notes leading the way for supple cherry and plum fruit flavors. Silky tannins and a light dusting of sandalwood show on the finish. (JM, Web Only-2018)" Jeb Dunnuck: "Leading off the reds, the clean, classic and nicely textured 2016 Crozes-Hermitage offers lots of darker fruits, peppery herbs, and dried earth. It's medium-bodied, balanced, has good acidity and a great finish. It’s a good value." (01/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, the bas ...Read More »

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Crozes Hermitage Domaine De Thalabert offers a rocking (and classic) bouquet of ripe black fruits intermixed with notions new saddle leather, pepper, garrigue, and hints of bacon fat. This ripe, medium to full-bodied, silky wine has remarkable purity, is already complex, and finishes with serious length. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years." 2015 Cave de Tain "Grand Classique" Crozes-Hermitage (Elsewhere $25)

93 points Decanter: "Saturated, deep black-red in colour with a pure, exuberant and exciting scent mingling notes of smoke, bramble, blackberry, blackcurrant and redcurrant. The flavours are joyful. There’s a fruit core of singing lyricism, both vivid and fresh without being acidulous; the wine is tannic enough to give its fruit shape and gravitas but not roughness or austerity; and it has overtones which bring light and shade to the wine via faint notes of smoke, of cleansing bitterness, of the saltiness which is such a hallmark of parts of Crozes, and ...Read More »

2016 Emmanuel Darnaud "Les Trois Chenes" Crozes-Hermitage

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Crozes Hermitage Les Trois Chênes comes from alluvial and pebbly soils and was mostly destemmed and brought up in demi-muids and tanks. Similarly colored, with lots of blackberry, spice, peppery herbs, and hints of incense, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, layered texture, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It's very much in the charming, forward style of the vintage and ideal for drinking over the coming 5-7 years (I suspect it will keep even longer)." (12/2018) 92 points Vino ...Read More »

It offers terrific red and black fruits, spice, tapenade and peppery herb aromatics, medium to full-bodied richness, moderate tannin and a great finish. It's a hidden little gem in the vintage." Black raspberry and cherry liqueur flavors display excellent energy and depth, a subtle spicecake accent and zesty back-end cut. Deftly plays richness off vivacity and shows no excess fat. 2015 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc (Previously $300)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Matching the otherworldly 2009, the 2015 Hermitage Blanc is a perfect wine and certainly one of the greatest whites ever made from this hallowed estate. The normal blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne from the l’Ermite, Péleat, and les Rocoules lieux-dits, it exhibits a huge, opulent bouquet of buttered citrus, flower oil, orange marmalade, quince, and honeysuckle that’s to die for. 99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "More Hermitage than Crozes-Hermitage, the 2015 Crozes Ermitage Les Varonniers comes from a cool, west facing parcel and the same soils as the Bessards lieu-dit on Hermitage. Burning embers, ozone, saddle leather, beef blood and a liqueur of rocks bouquet gives way to a full-bodied, silky, awesome Crozes-Hermitage that's undoubtedly the greatest vintage ever for this cuvée. Coming from the pure granite soils of the Les Bessards lieu-dit, on the western edge of the appellation, it’s made from 100% Syrah and spent 16 months in 70% new French oak. It’s an incredible wine that offers classic powdered rock-like minerality, loads of crème de cassis and black raspberry fruit, smoked meats, spice and dried-flower nuances. 2016 Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine "Domaine de Saint Pierre" Cornas

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre comes from a plot that's usually the last of the Jaboulet vineyards to be harvested. In some years, like 2013 and 2014, none is released. Back to the '16, it's a gorgeous, seductive Cornas, featuring hints of toasted almond that frame ripe cherries and vanilla. It's medium to full-bodied and velvety in texture to the point that some may question its modernity, but there's a lovely bit of bloody tang that creeps in on the finish, giving it a true feel of Cornas. More tight, focused and backward than the Pavillon, it's no less impressive and is pure, full-bodied, massively concentrated and focused. It’s another monumental wine from Michel Chapoutier that needs to be forgotten for 8-10 years and will have 40-50 years of prime drinking. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (100RP, 98JS, 97WS, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Hermitage La Chapelle lived up to its reputation on this occasion, and of the three titans (1990, 1978 and 1961), it was probably my favorite. Still inky colored and ruby at the rim, it offers an absolutely profound bouquet of sweet cassis, smoked meats, chocolate, licorice and spice. This is followed by a full-bodied, insanely textured, pure and hedonistic palate that has that perfect mix of still-vibrant fruit and ample secondary nuances. Bid on this bottle of 2003 Paul Jaboulet Ainé "La Chapelle" Hermitage (96RP, 96WS, 94JS, 92VN, 92W&S). Wine Spectator: "Deceptively graceful at first, with a Burgundy-like perfume, this quickly delivers a torrent of fruit--blackberry, boysenberry and black currant--that cascades over itself, pushed from behind by flavors of mocha, mineral, tar and violets. Long, sweet and pure through a densely structured finish. Best from 2008 through 2030. *Top 100 Wines of 2006 and Collectibles* (JM)" (02/2006)

2015 E. Guigal "Ex-Voto" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is certainly in the same league as the 2009 and 2010, and it’s going to be interesting to compare these vintages over the coming 2-3+ decades. The 2015 has all the hallmarks of a great vintage with its huge bouquet of quince, toasted almonds, brioche, liquid rocks, and honeysuckle as well as touch of licorice. Sensationally concentrated, opulent, and multi-dimensional on the palate, it has bright acidity and an awesome sense of minerality that keep the wine chiseled and focused on the palate. 1995 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage (97RP, 97VN, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up and showing more minerality, structure and length, with a masculine style, the 1995 Hermitage is drinking beautifully today. Described as disappointing by Jean-Louis over the past 5 years or so, it appears to be opening up and possesses fabulous, liquid rock-like qualities to go with cassis, blackberry and wild herbs. Medium to full-bodied, fabulously textured, rich and stretching out nicely on the finish, enjoy this beauty over the coming decade. (JD)" (08/2014)

2016 Ferraton Pere et Fils "Lieu Dit Paradis" Saint-Joseph (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2016 Ferraton Pere et Fils "Lieu Dit Paradis" Saint-Joseph (Pre-Arrival)

91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There will be only about 2,000 bottles of the 2016 Saint Joseph Lieu-Dit Paradis, from a vineyard near Mauves. It offers black cherry and blackberry fruit; a ripe, creamy mid-palate; and a long, firm finish. Drink this medium to full-bodied wine over the next decade or so. In the interest of saving time, I tasted these wines during my visit to Chapoutier, although Ferraton is run independently, with its own winemaking team and facility. Despite being under Chapoutier ownership since 2004, the style of wine ...Read More »

2015 E. Guigal "Ex Voto" Hermitage Rouge (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Aged 36 months in new oak, the colossal 2015 Hermitage Ex Voto is up with the finest vintages of this cuvée to date and is certainly in the same ballpark as the 2009 and 2010. This deep, powerful, muscular Hermitage boasts a saturated purple color to go with its huge nose of crème de cassis, freshly crushed rocks, incense, charcoal, and spring flowers. Full-bodied, with good acidity and huge richness and density, it requires 5-7 years of cellaring and should drink well for 40+ years. (JD) " (12/2018) 95-97 points Robert Parker's ...Read More »

2017 M. Chapoutier "Les Varonniers" Crozes-Hermitage Rouge (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On a whole other level, the inky colored 2017 Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers gives up a big blast of black fruits, black olive, smoked earth, and graphite. Tasting like a top Hermitage with its classic minerality, full-bodied richness, and deep, layered mid-palate, it's going to benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for two decades. I’ve often called this wine the greatest Crozes Hermitage produced, and it’s yet to let me down." (12/2018) 92-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Recent vintages of the 2017 Crozes Her ...Read More »

2016 M. Chapoutier "Les Varonniers" Crozes-Hermitage (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On another level, the inky colored 2016 Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers comes from the granite hillside just beside Hermitage hill and is more Hermitage than Crozes. It has a huge nose of currants, smoked earth, graphite, pepper, and cured meats. This carries to a rich, powerful Crozes that has a real sense of minerality, beautiful mid-palate depth, ripe, present tannins, and a great, great finish. Aged 18 months in 20% new French oak (a mix of Burgundy barrels and demi-muids), it has two decades or more of longevity ahead of it." ...Read More »

2017 M. Chapoutier "Les Greffieux" Ermitage Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival)

95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Always the more ripe, sexy, and opulent wine of the four single vineyards, the 2017 Ermitage Les Gréffieux offers classic black fruits, roasted herbs, licorice, and black olives. Coming from deeper, pebbly soils at the base of the Le Méal slope, this full-bodied, rounded, powerful wine has terrific concentration, rounded, sexy tannins, and a great finish. It's already drinkable and will be relatively accessible in its youth, yet keep for 2-3 decades." (12/2018) 95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Typically the most a ...Read More »

2016 Ferraton Pere et Fils "Le Méal" Ermitage Rouge (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the 2016 Ermitage Le Méal is the top wine from Ferraton, and rightly so, as it’s a magical wine in 2016. Rocking notes of black raspberries, blackberries, toasted spices, tapenade, and dry aged beef all emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with a wealth of material yet stays balanced, layered, and seamless. It's a sensational wine that's up with the top wines of the vintage. Hats off to the team at Ferraton for this remarkable wine as well as their full lineup of wines in 2016."
