2017 Frédéric Esmonin Hautes-Côte de Nuits Rouge

One of the best value producers in all of Burgundy is Frédéric Esmonin, guaranteed to put a smile on your face and not max out your credit. According to the importer, "Domaine Frédéric Esmonin, from Burgundy's Gevrey-Chambertain appellation, is a true family collaboration that consists of Frederic, his father, André, and his mother, Michele. They have been farming their 10-acres of family vineyards for generations and selling their fruit to the likes of Drouhin, Jadot, and Leroy. (In fact, some of the very great wines from Leroy in the 1950's are believe ...

2016 Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes

92 points James Suckling: "The very spicy perfumed nose draws you into this rich wine. Shows a hint of earth and quite substantial tannins, which are already beautifully integrated. The finish long and rather sophisticated. Drink or hold. " (02/2018) 90 points Wine Spectator: "The cherry and plum fruit is shaded by sweet spice notes in this elegant red. Balanced and long, echoing spice and incense details on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2030." (04/2019)

1998 Domaine Tortochot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Fourth generation Chantal Tortochot took over for her retired father Gabriel in 1996 (Domaine Tortochot dates back to the end of the 19th century). It has been under her leadership that the Domaine has updated the vineyards and restored the winery, as well as pursued conversion of the vineyards to organic viticulture.

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Classic ruby. An intensely sauvage, cool and relatively airy red currant suffused nose that is also distinctly mineral-inflected leads to solidly structured and overtly muscular flavors that finish with some dryness. There appears to be more than sufficient phenolic ripeness to avoid the dryness so it's possible that there is still some unabsorbed sulfur from the bottling but otherwise, it's not clear that this is going to harmonize before it dries out. My score reflects this caution." (01/2011)

Intense and well-structured, with spice notes echoing on the sinewy finish. Like a thoroughbred in the starting gate. Best from 2021 through 2033. (BS)" (05/2019) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A more elegant and airier nose combines notes of cassis and violet with hints of spice and oak. This is really very impressive though patience required." (01/2009)

2016 Domaine Trapet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Relatively cool and airy aromas feature notes of dark currant, earth and a subtle suggestion of the sauvage. Once again there is a lovely palate impression to the sappy and relatively supple medium-bodied flavors that tighten up on the youthfully austere and persistent finish. This will need at least a few years to unwind because even though it's not especially tannic, it is tightly wound." 1998 Domaine Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru "Cazetiers"

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is just now beginning to lose some color around the rim. Consistent with this, the nose is displaying soft secondary aromas that include stone, earth and animale notes that also characterize the round, delicious and still admirably intense middle weight flavors that possess fine detail and plenty of vitality on the mildly rustic but mouth coating finish. This is close to being ready but for my taste, I would allow another 2 to 4 years of cellar time. In sum, this is lovely juice and a classic Cazetiers." (01/201 ...

It has a very impressive sense of completeness and a regal air. Loaded with red cherries, orange zest and fresh sappy aromas. It delivers velvety, fine tannins in a seamless mode. Very impressive from start to finish. Already drinking well. This has a good twenty-year window ahead." 2008 Domaine Tortochot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

With a few minutes of air pretty aromas of complex and cool red Pinot fruit, earth and a hint of humus give way to equally earthy medium weight flavors that possess good volume and a fine muscularity, all wrapped in a very firm but not aggressive finish. There is flat out superb intensity to the mineral-driven and sleekly muscular middle weight plus flavors that possess a more sophisticated mouthfeel before concluding in a dusty, serious, palate coating and ultra-saline finish that goes on and on. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, very concentrated and satiny, with amazing energy and structural tension that evoke the 2010 vintage, concluding with a long, mineral finish. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Lucien Le Moine Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Cazetiers". This has an absolutely lovely nose and classic character. This is made from 90 year old vines, and there is little doubt about that when you taste it. The pure, old-vine concentration is remarkable. The aromatics promise and the wine delivers. Red fruits, toasty oak, griottes, floral and lovely. Supple and integrated on the palate, plush and lovely. There is lots to like here. My notes were accompanied by a marginal note saying simply: "WOW". (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer) Steve Tanzer gives it 90-92 Points saying: "($76) Medium red. Sappy, liqueur-like aromas of raspberry, smoke and game. Creamy-sweet and lush in the mouth, with superripe kirsch and oak flavors and a seamless texture. 92 points Decanter: "Vieille Vigne (always singular at Fourrier) is sourced from 12 different parcels, most of them on the better, western side of the route nationale. This is always a pleasure to drink, and the 2017 is no exception, with supple, scented, alluring red berry notes, some vanilla oak and a zesty finish. Drinking window 2021-2027. (TA) " (10/2018) 90-92 points Vinous: "The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 60-year old vines, 80-years in Champ Perrière (the minimum 40 years old). It has a clean, precise and very focused bo ...

2010 Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru

93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A fresh but quite restrained and noticeably cool nose of herb and stone-infused wild red berry fruit aromas precedes impressively intense, powerful and agreeably rich medium-bodied flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the wonderfully detailed flavors that explode on the mouth coating and overtly stony finish. Like the Suchots, this is one impressive effort with outstanding upside potential though note that at least 15 years of cellar time will be required. *Don't Miss!* Drink: 2025+" (01/2012) Jancis Robinson: ...

2016 Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos des Issarts"

93-95 points Vinous: "(destemmed): Good dark red. Captivating perfume of raspberry, spices, crushed stone and red licorice. Intensely flavored and penetrating, boasting terrific energy and lift to its flavors of red berries, minerals and flowers. Very concentrated and dense but conveys a weightless impression. The palate-saturating finish offers spectacular rising perfume. A wine from very stony soil: I'm sure I would have picked it blind as coming from Chambolle-Musigny. 2017 Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" (Pre-Arrival)

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the wood regimen is no longer subtle though it stops short of masking the beautifully layered aromas of plum, spice, dark currant and freshly turned earth. The highly energetic and delineated middle weight plus flavors exude noticeable minerality on the powerful and focused finish that displays outstanding depth and persistence. Moreover, the finish really fans out as it sits on the palate." (01/2019) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Domaine Faiveley now possess fully four hectares in this appel ...

2007 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (96RP, 95JG, 95VN, 95WS, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is drinking beautifully at the moment. It has a pixilated bouquet that is utterly entrancing – red currant, bergamot, hints of pomegranate seeds and an underlying mineralite that is divine. The palate is perfectly balanced with extremely fine tannins. There is something regal and self-assured about this Clos-de-Beze, with a sense of weightlessness in the mouth that is bewitching. This both satisfies the senses and flirts with profundity. Dare I suggest this is too exquisite to cellar? Damn – I’ve just gone and done it. Drink now-2020. (NM)" (08/2013)
