2015 E. Guigal "La Mouline" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

98-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On another level, and unquestionably the best of the three vintages, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mouline sports an inky purple color as well as an off-the-charts bouquet of black currants, smoked herbs, spring flowers, gamey meats, and acacia flowers. Massively concentrated, opulent, and as sexy as wine gets, it reminds me of the 1978 La Mouline and has perfection written all over it. If you can afford it, this is a magical, legendary wine in the making that will keep for 4-5 decades." (12/2018) 97-99 points Robert Parker's Wine ...

2009 E. Guigal "Château d'Ampuis" Côte-Rotie

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More ripe, voluptuous and decadent, the 2009 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis offers rocking dark fruits, cured meats, dried flowers, licorice and toasty/graphite-like qualities to go with a full-bodied, pedal-to-the-metal style on the palate. Gaining more and more freshness as it sat in the glass, this prodigious effort can be consumed anytime over the coming 2-3 decades. (JD)" (08/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "A broad, muscular style, with a distinctive mix of roasted mesquite and apple wood out front, followed ...

2016 Vignobles Levet "Les Journaries" Côte-Rôtie

93-95 points Vinous: "Opaque purple. Aromas of fresh dark berries, cherry pit, licorice, cola and cracked pepper, and a hint of gaminess in the background. Juicy and expansive on the palate, offering bitter cherry, cassis and spicecake flavors that tighten up and become spicier with aeration. Turns sweeter on the strikingly long finish, which features dusty, mounting tannins and resonating floral and smoky mineral notes. (JR)" (06/2018)

2005 Domaine Georges Vernay Côte Rôtie "Blonde du Seigneur"

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The outstanding 2005 Cote Rotie Blonde de Seigneur exhibits the beautifully sexy, seductive notes from the Cote Blonde, with raspberry, kirsch, smoke, and flowers, followed by an elegantly wrought wine with supple tannins, beautiful black and red fruits, and a savory mouthfeel. It is rich, but not over the top." (02/2008) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Bright and pure, with racy acidity carrying a strong floral note, along with hints of licorice, iron and cassis. Graphite edge really stretches out the finish. Best ...

2016 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Decanter: "There is no better way to develop an understanding of the different expressions of the single vineyard sites of Côte-Rôtie than by tasting from barrel in Jean-Paul Jamet's underground bunker - especially in a vintage like 2016. 'You smell the terroir first in 2016; in 2015, you smell the vintage first,' he says. Whereas his wonderful 2015 has a lush, easy-going charm, the 2016 is more tailored and precise. Moving from Les Lezards to Gerine, then Fongeant, Le Plomb and La Landonne, each barrel has its own marked character. It's clear ...

2015 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Inky colored, the flagship 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée is an utterly incredible wine any way you look at it and is a legendary Côte Rôtie in the making. Black raspberry, blackberry jam, toasted spices, dried flowers and cured meat notes give way to a sexy, full-bodied, ripe, and incredibly opulent 2015 that has sweet tannin, no hard edges and a huge finish. The fruit of the vintage, as well as the sweet tannin, allow this to offer pleasure even today, but it’s going to benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age and drink beautifully fo ...

1999 Pierre Gaillard "Les Viallieres" Côte-Rôtie

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As I reported last year when the wines were still in barrel, the 1999 Cote Roties are awesome. The 1999 Cote Rotie Les Viallieres Reserve (20% Viognier included) offers up a potent perfume of violets, spring flowers, sausage, black fruits, and vanilla. It is tannic as well as full-bodied, dense, backward, and long. This wine is less approachable and civilized than Le Cret. It will be drinkable between 2005-2016. (RP)" (04/2002)

2015 Remi Niero "Eminance" Côte-Rôtie (Elsewhere $90)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie Eminence from Niero is another brilliant 2015 that should be snatched up by readers. A blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier sourced from the Valliere and Coteau de Bassenon lieux-dits, aged in 20% new oak, it has a beautiful perfume of black raspberries, dried flowers, incense, and cured meats. Medium to full-bodied and seamless on the palate, it has an elegant, pure, yet concentrated style that’s going to continue evolving gracefully for 15 years or more." 2016 Clos de la Bonnette "Cuvée Prenelle" Côte-Rôtie

Domaine Clos de la Bonnette was purchased in 1992 by wife and husband team, Isabelle Guiller and Henri Montabonnet. Isabelle had her eye on this abandoned vineyard site for many years before they moved forward. The main reason that the site remained unoccupied was because the hillsides were in complete disarray, as many of the stone retaining walls had collapsed over the decades due to neglect. Restoring this property could only be done as a labor of love, not a commercial venture. Isabelle and Henri did most of the restoration themselves, rebuilding the ...

2009 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Both the 2010 and the 2009 continue to blow me away every time I taste them, and to me, these represent the pinnacle of Cote Rotie—albeit in very different styles. Every bit as good as the 2010, the 2009 Cote Rotie la Turque is a flamboyant and sexy Cote Rotie that’s loaded with notions of smoked meats, blackberries, blackcurrants, beef blood and espresso roast. Thick, unctuous, hugely concentrated and long, it’s a heavenly wine I guarantee will put a smile on your face anytime over the coming 2-3 decades." (12/2016) 100 points ...

1989 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

Robert Parker writes: "Chapoutier's aim is to produce an exceptionally perfumed, soft, elegant cuvee of Cote Rotie, and a luxury cuvee that takes Cote Rotie's black-raspberry, exotic fruitiness and elegance to the limits of intensity, a la Marcel Guigal's La Mouline."

2015 Domaine Michel & Stephane Ogier "Reserve" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Vinous: "Deep ruby. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, violet, olive paste and smoky minerals, with a suave floral topnote. Offers densely packed black and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that stretch out slowly as the wine opens up. Displays excellent definition on a very long, lively finish that's given shape by chewy, building tannins. (JR)" (04/2018) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie Reserve is brilliant stuff. 2015 Guigal Côte-Rotie "Château d'Ampuis" (Pre-Arrival)

96-98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Scheduled to be bottled just after this visit, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Château D'Ampuis reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of smoked black fruits, caramelized blackcurrants, leady herbs, ground pepper, and earth. It's deep, rich, massively concentrated, and a powerhouse of a wine that’s going to need bottle age, but wow, what a wine! 2010 Domaine Michel & Stéphane Ogier "La Belle Helene" Côte-Rôtie(1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cote Rotie La Belle Helene is perfection. In this vintage, Ogier cut back the barrel aging time from 32 months in largely new oak casks to 18 months. Ogier’s remarkable flexibility depending on vintage conditions and the quality of the fruit is admirable. He thinks this may be the greatest bottle of wine he has ever made, and it’s hard to disagree. An inky/purple color is followed by notes of pen ink, graphite, forest floor, licorice and abundant black and blue fruits. There is little evidence of new oa ...

In the mouth there is superb concentration, a sweet, expansive texture, and a mind-boggling, long finish. This lavishly rich Cote Rotie, which is already delicious, is capable of lasting for 10-15 years. Taut and structured on entry and then more pliant in the midpalate, offering intense dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that are sweetened by suave spicecake and violet accents. Shows impressive spicy lift and delineation on the subtly tannic finish, which hangs on with strong, floral-driven persistence. It offers up notes of bacon fat, tapenade, sweet cassis and black raspberries, graphite and subtle barbecue smoke. Opulent, fleshy and rich, it is a total hedonistic and intellectual turn-on. Impressively concentrated but lively as well, offering alluringly sweet black raspberry, boysenberry spicecake and violet flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. 2017 Rene Rostaing "Cote Blonde" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Decanter: "The winemaking at Domaine Rostaing is now in the hands of René's son Pierre, and it follows the same format for all the Côte-Rôties: four weeks in tank, 18 months in mostly old oak, natural yeasts, and as many stems as possible. A certain spice and perfume is contained within a dark, brooding mass, which has really fragrant, lifted, sweet berry fruit. There's considerable tangy berry acidity and blackberry-skin tannins, and it shows a good sense of refinement despite the remarkably powerful sinew. A very long, well balanced finish. G ...

Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it has more depth and richness than most in this classic, charming vintage. Saturated purple-colored, with terrific notes of cassis, blackberries, scorched earth, violets, and graphite, it hits the palate with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, good acidity, and present yet sweet tannins, all of which give it a classic feel. Flamboyant, sexy, and pure, the 2017 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée knocks it out of the park with its crazy good bouquet of black raspberries, flowers, olives, bacon fat, and gamey, meaty nuances. 2016 Rene Rostaing "Côte Blonde" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Decanter: "No destemming here, aged in mostly old demi-muids with no more than 10% new oak. A captivatingly pretty floral fragrance can be coaxed out along with aniseed and blackberry notes, but it's tightly wound for now. The rounded palate is dense, with good concentration of red fruit and delightfully perfumed juniper. Soft tannins coat the mouth, and oak is present but well judged. Black fruits, wood smoke, caramelized meats and hints of beef blood all flow from this full-bodied, mineral-laced, focused and chiseled Côte Rôtie that needs 5-7 years of cellaring and will keep for another 15+ years. Smoked meats, game, black olives, charcoal, black raspberries and pepper all literally soar from this beauty and it hits the palate with a massively concentrated, almost over-the-top decadence that's impossible to resist.
