2015 Guigal Côte-Rotie "Château d'Ampuis" (Pre-Arrival)

97-99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another absolutely off-the-charts barrel sample is the 2015 Côte Rôtie Chateau d’Ampuis, which comes from a blend of seven estate vineyards. Its inky black color is followed by profound notes of crème de cassis, toasted spices, violets and smoked meats. Full-bodied, impeccably balanced, concentrated and tannic, and yet always elegant and precise, it’s certainly a match for the three single-vineyard releases. As always, my visit with Marcel and Philippe Guigal is one of the highlights of my entire time spent working in the no ...Read More »

2010 Rene Rostaing "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie New!
2010 Rene Rostaing "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2010 Cote Rotie La Landonne reveals a dense purple color along with a huge, impressive perfume of roasted meats, black currants, black raspberries and scorched earth. This 100% Syrah comes from vines planted on exceptionally steep slopes composed of schist and iron-like sub-soils. Some graphite also makes an appearance in this mineral-dominated, well-delineated, rich, intense wine. (RP)" (12/2012) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and brooding in feel, with steeped olive, roasted beef, charcoal and ...Read More »

1999 E. Guigal "Brune et Blonde" Côte-Rotie

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(bottled in January of 2002) Bright ruby-red. Superripe, expressive aromas of raspberry, coffee, roasted herbs and pepper; shows a slightly porty surmaturite. Rich, round and lush; a wonderfully ripe and full-blown yet fresh wine with substantial, solid tannins and superb persistence. This has a lot of all the key elements, including acidity. A superb vintage for this wine - and there are more than 27,000 cases of this stuff! (ST)" (01/2003) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a juicy core of macerate ...Read More »

2015 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie (1.5L)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Inky colored, the flagship 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée is an utterly incredible wine any way you look at it and is a legendary Côte Rôtie in the making. Black raspberry, blackberry jam, toasted spices, dried flowers and cured meat notes give way to a sexy, full-bodied, ripe, and incredibly opulent 2015 that has sweet tannin, no hard edges and a huge finish. The fruit of the vintage, as well as the sweet tannin, allow this to offer pleasure even today, but it’s going to benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age and drink beautifully fo ...Read More »

2016 Delas Freres "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2016 Delas Freres "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The flagship 2016 Côte Rôtie La Landonne is certainly on another level and might just match the 2015. Deep purple-colored and heavenly perfumed, with notes of black raspberries, violets, vanilla spice, incense and flowers, it’s full-bodied, ripe, seamless, and structured. It shows the more elegant style of the vintage, but is going to need time. Delas Frères is located just outside of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols and has plenty of prime parcels spread throughout the entire northern Rhône Valley. The 2015s are the finest wines I’ve tas ...Read More »

2016 Rene Rostaing "Ampodium" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the 2016s from barrel, this late vintage wasn’t completely brought in until the middle of October. The 2016 Côte Rôtie Ampodium has the purity and elegance that’s the hallmark of the vintage as well as ripe berry fruits, violets, and pepper. It’s a charming, forward 2016 that’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate." (01/2018) 91-93 points Vinous: "Bright violet. Expressive black and blue fruit, floral pastille and peppery spice aromas display a bright mineral quality and a suggestion of woodsmoke. Intense blu ...Read More »

2016 Saint Cosme Côte-Rôtie

94 points James Suckling: "Stony aromas with sweet spices in abundance, ahead of ripe plums and raspberries. The palate has silky tannins and a very suave, fleshy array of ripe, red plums and nectarines. Long and delicious. " (08/2018) 92-94 points Vinous: "Bright purple. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes candied dark berries, olive, smoked meat and incense, and floral and mineral notes build steadily. Sweet, focused and penetrating on the palate, offering sappy boysenberry, cherry and violet pastille flavors braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Impre ...Read More »

2017 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie (Pre-Arrival)

96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always a blend of Côte Brune and Côte Blonde, the 2017 Cote Rotie la Mordorée is a stunning example of this cuvée. Pencil shavings frame raspberry and blueberries on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied and concentrated, richly tannic but fully ripe, with licorice notes coming to the fore on the long, velvety finish. Super stuff. (JC)" (10/2018) 93 points Decanter: "Bright, attractive floral aromas of violet and peony, with black cherry and raspberry fruit. 2016 Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine "Domaine des Pierrelles" Côte-Rôtie

92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Côte Rôtie Les Pierrelles comes from the southern part of the appellation, which is more granite soils (compared to the broken schists in the north) and yields a more finesse-driven, elegant wine. The 2016 is supple, polished and elegant, with lots of blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of dried earth, pepper, and hints of dried flowers. This medium-bodied, elegant, compelling Côte Rôtie will drink well for 10-15 years." (01/2018) 92-94 points Vinous: "Dark purple. Powerful, mineral- and smoke-accented blueberry ...Read More »

2015 Delas Freres "Seigneurs de Maugiron" Côte-Rôtie

(06/2018) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie Seigneur De Maugiron is a little gem of a wine, and I suspect the finest vintage I’ve tasted for the cuvée. Rounded, full-bodied, voluptuous, and impeccably balanced, it offers lots of spice, cured meats and black fruits, sweet tannin, and a great mid-palate. It has considerable elegance and purity, and is more sex ...Read More »

2009 Rene Rostaing "La Landonne" Côte-Rôtie

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I continue to just love this vintage, and the 2009 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne from René is a sensational bottle of wine that northern Rhône lovers should seek out. Beautifully concentrated, yet fresh and elegant, with full-bodied aromas and flavors of black raspberries, spring flowers, crushed rocks and spice, it’s already approachable (which is unusual by this cuvée’s standards) and can be drunk anytime over the coming two decades. 95+" (02/2018) 95 points Wine Spectator: "This has depth and ripeness, but stays defined, with an alm ...Read More »

It's medium to full-bodied, elegant and polished, with sweet tannin, and it shines for its texture, balanced and purity." (01/2018) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cote Rotie l'Eglantine, a blend of three different parcels, is aging in 20% new oak and shows some cedar, pie-crust notes as a result, plus complex notes of blackberrie ...Read More »

2015 Christophe Billon "La Brocarde" Côte-Rotie

94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In the same qualitative ballpark as the Côte Rozier, yet possessing more elegance, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Brocadre (95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, mostly destemmed and aged in new barrels) offers lots of raspberry and black raspberry notes, as well as new saddle leather, cassis, toasted spice and dried flowers. Full-bodied, pure, layered and downright silky, it’s a brilliant wine that will have two decades of longevity. This was a sensational lineup of wines from Côte Rôtie-based Christophe Billon. 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie La Landonne from Delas is a seamless, gorgeously balanced Côte Rôtie that reminds me of the 2011. Offering classic notes of smoked meats, currants, graphite, chocolate and roasted herbs, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, plenty of polished tannins, and perfect balance. It's surprisingly accessible, yet has beautiful density and depth of fruit. It's more approachable than most vintages, yet will evolve for just as long given its purity, harmony and balance. 2016 Christophe Billon Syrah "Correndies" Collines Rhodaniennes

One of our great new finds this year came from our visit to Christophe Billon in Côte-Rotie. Residing in the lieu-dit of Côte Rozier, Billon has flown under the radar for far too long. While working at Guigal, Christophe and his wife Maryline began this side project in 1991. He left Guigal in 2008 to dedicate his full time to their estate vineyards. Christophe now makes three Côte-Roties along with an entry-level Syrah, Viognier and a beautiful Condrieu. The "Correndies" is from his parcel just outside the appellation. It offers Cote-Rotie quality for ...Read More »

2016 Saint Cosme Côte-Rôtie (1.5L) (wine stained labels) (Previously $130)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Côte-Rôtie comes all from the Côte Brune side of the appellation, which is all schist soils. Fermented with no destemming and aged mostly in older barrels, it’s a rock star Côte-Rôtie and offers loads of blackberry fruits, spice, tapenade, cured meats, and pepper. With medium to full body, a deep, layered mid-palate, present tannins, and a huge finish, it needs short-term cellaring but is an undeniably gorgeous Syrah that will have two decades of longevity." Ripe cherry and boysenberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of smoky minerals, candied flowers and olive. Pliant red/blue fruit flavors show good depth and focus, and licorice and cracked pepper nuances build as the wine opens up. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 E. Guigal "Château d'Ampuis" Côte-Rotie (99RP, 97WS, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More closed than when I tasted it earlier this year, the 2010 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is an incredible effort that’s made from 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier. Coming from the estate’s top sites and aged 38 months in new oak, it has no problem standing beside the top three single-vineyard releases. Crème de cassis, vanilla bean, smoked meats and licorice all flow to a full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, structured Cote Rotie that needs another 5-6 years of bottle age, but will keep for 2-3 decades. 1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline
Bid on this bottle of 1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline (100RP, 97VN, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the all-time great La Moulines, this still youthful and unevolved wine does not have the tannic ferocity of the 1988, or the sheer force and intensity of the 1978, 1976, and 1969, but it represents the epitome of this single-vineyard wine. Everything fits perfectly in this full-bodied, black/purple-colored wine that reveals no garnet or amber at the edge of its color. The nose offers up a formidable array of overripe black raspberries and cherries intertwined with scents of cedar, chocolate, olives, and toast. Extremely full-bodied, with an unctuosity and opulence that must be tasted to be believed, this velvety-textured wine's finish lasts for over a minute. It is one of the most concentrated but profoundly endowed and well-balanced wines I have ever tasted. Like so many of the wines Guigal has produced from this vineyard, no matter how hard one tries to articul

Bid on this bottle of 1991 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune Cuvée Réservée" Côte-Rôtie (97JG, 94ST, 94VN, 90RP). John Gilman: "I still have a few bottles of the 1991 Gentaz Côte Brune in my cellar and I will not be planning on opening a bottle for at least another five to ten years, as this is a remarkably young wine still at age twenty-two! The young and beautifully complex nose soars from the glass in a magical mélange of cassis, black pepper, smoked meats, stony soil tones, black raspberries and a smoky topnote redolent of bonfires. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with a very stony signature of soil, firm, ripe tannins and a very, very long, poised and youthful finish that still shows just a bit of its youthful stemminess. This will ultimately be one of the greatest vintages ever produced by Monsieur Gentaz in his long career, but I would definitely keep it tucked away in the cellar for several more years to come, as there are layers and layers of
