95 points John Gilman: "The Clos Rognet is a warmer microclimate and Jean-Nicolas judiciously decided to start picking here first in 2018 and the wine has turned out brilliantly as a result! This is ripe, but oh, so precise and pure at the same time, with the nose soaring from the glass in a blaze of black cherries, black raspberries, roasted meats, a nice touch of Corton spice, beautiful minerality, French roast, coriander seed and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and powerful in personality, with stunning purity on the attack, a sappy...

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is still very fresh with almost no secondary development on the nose and revealing ripe cherry, earth and game aromas followed by exuberant, rich, sweet and persistent flavors. While this is not particularly dense, the precision and minerality make for aA delicious effort that possesses none of the shortcomings of the '97 vintage. " (02/2004)

93-96 points Wine Spectator: "No tasting note given." (04/2020) 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Ample wood influence is present on the cool and pure essence of baked plum liqueur, earth and plenty of floral and spice nuances. There is excellent size, weight and power to the large-scaled but not ponderous flavors that are also shaped by very firm tannins on the beautifully long if slightly warm finale. This is very promising and should ultimately prove to be very long-lived." (04/2020) 93 points James Suckling: "A firm, linear red with ripe stra...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Broad and sturdy, boasting cherry, raspberry, earth and spice flavors. Vivid acidity and tannins provide structure, allowing the finish to persist, with fruit, spice and earth notes. Remains fresh and lively throughout. Best from 2019 through 2032. (BS)" (05/2017) 92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A highly complex if quite restrained nose grudgingly exhibits notes of red currant, spice, smoke, earth and the sauvage. There is excellent power and plenty of punch to the broad-shouldered and reasonably concentrated flavors th...

This could easily be drunk now but there is such good overall balance that it will easily be capable of improving for another 3 to 5 years." (02/2004)

2018 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Top Pick!
94 points Decanter: "Bouchard Père's Corton-Charlemagne hails from a cool, east-facing site on yellow marls soils in Aloxe-Corton and is one of the last parcels to be picked. Fermented in 20% new wood, it's still a pretty rich Grand Cru white, with breadth, texture and a drizzle of honey, but there's also plenty of balancing acidity, sap and minerality. Appealing stuff. (TA)" (10/2019) 94 points James Suckling: "This is very open, across a broad palate that shows ripe apples, pineapple and light tropical fruit. Hints of cream. Full-bodied, flavorful an...

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A brooding nose only reluctantly reveals its extremely fresh notes of plum, cassis, violets and pungent earth. There is a bit more volume to the powerful, concentrated and serious big-bodied flavors that evidence a lovely minerality on the mouth coating, firmly structured and strikingly long and beautifully well-balanced finish. This bad boy of a Bressandes is a knockout but one that is clearly going to require extended cellaring to soften what are presently resolute tannins." (04/2020) 90-92 points Vinous: "The 20...

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is quite densely fruited with an unusually expressive mélange of violet, plum, red and black currant, tea and plenty of earth elements. There is very fine volume and plenty of power to the reasonably well-detailed and muscular flavors that delivers outstanding length on the youthfully austere and saline suffused finish. While I envision that markedly more depth will develop there is enough underlying material present that if it does then my predicted score may very well be too conservative as this is very good. ...

96 points Decanter: "Anyone who feared that quality would drop after a change of ownership at this historic domaine will be happy to know that this grand cru white is as good as ever. Blending components from three different terroirs and altitudes, it's an elegant, textured, saline white of incredible precision and understated power, with subtle toasty oak and undertones of jasmine and lemongrass. (TA)" (10/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is showing superbly from bottle, wafting from the glass with ...

96 points Decanter: "The Faiveley holdings add up to 0.87ha on variety of soil types and altitudes, but they are all comparatively cool. This was picked late as a result on September 4th and marries richness, weight and honeyed complexity with vibrant, mineral-edged acidity and scented oak. A textbook Corton-Charlemagne from a year that didn't lend itself to classic wines. (TA)" (10/2018) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bursting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, fresh pear, dried flowers, toasted nuts and fresh pastry, Faiveley's 2...

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is a hint of herbaceousness to the otherwise fresh and ripe red Pinot fruit, spice and earth elements that actually adds breadth. The broad-shouldered, concentrated and punchy medium weight plus flavors possess fine size and weight along with a certain muscularity on the extract-rich finish. In typical Fournières fashion, this is a robust and rustic effort with mouth coating tannins and as such it will require extended cellaring." (04/2013)
Price: $79.99

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the slightly more expressive nose is both ripe yet cool with its ultra-fresh nose that is composed by pure essence of red cherry where additional aromatic latitude is present in the form of earth, spice, violet and a hint of game. I very much like the intensity and mid-palate density to the tautly muscular but not really rustic middle weight plus flavors that display a touch of salinity on the dusty, balanced an impressively persistent finish where an unusual amount of spice surfaces. This too is worth a look. *...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense, laced with cherry, sandalwood, green olive and mineral flavors. Fluid in profile and backed by a firm structure, this builds to a long, spice- and mineral-tinged aftertaste. (BS)" (05/2016) 91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly more complex and almost as elegant array of floral, earth, spice and both red and dark currant aromas precedes the big-bodied, powerful and muscular flavors that possess an attractively textured mouth feel. The well-balanced, intense and palate coating finish delivers fine depth and...

96 points James Suckling: "Wow. This is a solid Corton with ripe strawberries, plums, bark and porcini. Full-bodied with tight, fine tannins, focused depth of fruit and excellent length. Quite muscular for the vintage." (08/2020) 93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Moderate wood and menthol influences frame the intensely earthy and gamy aromas of both red and dark currant. There is excellent energy to the stony medium weight plus flavors that are at once succulent yet powerful where the latter carries over to the serious, firmly structured and mil...

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: " Discreet wood influence frames the more restrained and slightly cooler aromas of the ripe essence of red and dark pinot fruit where background nuances of earth, forest floor and game can be round. The velvety broad-shouldered flavors are rich to the point of opulence while also flashing excellent power on the dusty, serious and beautifully long finish that is even more structured. This robust effort appears to possess fine upside development potential." (04/2020) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Corton Grand Cru com...

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again reduction and sulfur mask the underlying fruit at present. Rich, full-bodied, concentrated and almost painfully intense flavors brim with both dry extract and evident minerality while delivering huge length on the youthfully austere finish that goes on and on. This muscular effort is terrific but be aware that this is definitely going to need time. *Don't miss!*" (06/2018) 94 points Vinous: "Pale, bright yellow. Subtle floral lift to the aromas of lemon, lime, menthol and chalky minerality. Dense, tactil...

95 points Decanter: "Bouchard have some of the biggest holdings of Corton-Charlemagne, at 3.9ha, all of them east-facing and high on the slope. This is perfumed and intense, with citrus rind and tangerine notes, chalky freshness and old-vine concentration. The oak is assertive but well integrated. (TA)" (10/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "Super chalky with restrained notes of stones and minerals, as well as orange and clementine aromas and lightly spiced bread dough, in attractive mode. The palate has a smoothly layered and very approachable feel with...

92-94 points Vinous: "Pale yellow. Subtly sexy nose combines ripe stone fruits, menthol, nuts and minerals, plus a hint of pastry. Suave and silky on entry, then broad on the middle palate, with its inviting touch of sweetness nicely buffered by terroir-driven minerality. The wine's strong yellow peach, licorice and pistachio flavors are lifted by notes of lime and stone. This very distinctive, youthfully laid-back wine boasts lovely depth and length as well as a bracing Pernand-side aspect. (ST)" (09/2018) 91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An u...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (95ST, 93BH, 93JG, 92WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale, bright color. A quintessence of Corton-Charlemagne dirt on the nose: stone fruits, lemon, iodine, ginger, minerals and mint, all complicated by a musky, leesy note that reminded me of a Coche-Dury wine. Then compellingly dense and penetrating in the mouth, with captivating, soil-driven flavors of raw pineapple, white peach, white flowers and crushed rock; a sulfidey complexity and a saline element add to the wine's spectacular subtle complexity. Hardly a blockbuster but conveys an impression of great solidity. This remarkably precise wine coats the palate with dusty stone and leaves behind a suggestion of honey. My sample at Bouchard in early June was painfully young and closed though obviously outstanding, but this bottle, tasted in New York in August, was spectacular. (ST) 95+" (10/2006)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Le Corton Grand Cru (96WE, (92-94BH), (89-93ST), (89-92WS)). Wine Enthusiast: "This is powerful and rich, allowing just a note of freshness to creep into the firm structure. Dark tannins, black fruits and smoky wood flavors combine harmoniously, lending a sense of great power and long-term aging potential. (RV)" (09/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Domaine Faiveley Chambertin Clos des Bèze Grand Cru (93WS, 90BH, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Very appealing, with a sumptuous texture, tobacco, coffee and berry aromas and flavors and a smoky finish. An alluring wine..." (12/1992)
Starting Bid: $420.00

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A lavish application of wood all but overwhelms the red currant, menthol, earth and pungent sauvage nuances. There is excellent punch to the large-scaled, intense and mineral-driven flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before terminating in a robust and moderately austere finish that delivers superb depth and seriously good length. This is an old school Corton and while not overtly rustic it's clear that this will require plenty of cellar time to arrive at its full apogee. In a word, excellent." (04/201...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Touches of wood and menthol can be found on the brooding and inexpressive nose of plum, dark cherry liqueur, freshly turned earth and a gamy note. There is an appealing sense of underlying tension to the concentrated big-bodied flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract while exhibiting excellent length on the balanced and very firmly structured finale. Patience strongly advised. *Sweet Spot*" (01/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley is anoth...

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2016 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Le Corton Grand Cru ((94-96JS), (93-95BH), (92-95VN), (91-93RP)). James Suckling: "The chalky and stony notes are intermingled with pastry and red to dark cherries, all leading to a palate that shows good acidity, impressive depth and weight of tannins. A cool vintage expression with more intensity at the finish. This will age very well. Try from 2024." (02/2018)
