2017 Chateau de la Maltroye Bourgogne Blanc

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A smoky nose reveals notes of straw, ripe pear and plenty of petrol influence. There is both good vibrancy and solid volume to the delicious and focused flavors that conclude in a clean, dry and crisp finish that is quite refreshing. This nicely complex offer should drink well early and with a few years of bottle age on it." (06/2019)

2017 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot Vigne Blanche"

91-94 points Vinous: "(Cournut describes these old vines--60 years old, on average--as "the best expression of Morgeot," adding that they produce a fatter style of wine): Complex, inviting aromas of white peach, lemon and minerals. Intense flavors of fresh peach and apricot show a lovely supple texture as well as firm supporting minerality, with a note of sweet oak adding appeal. Finishes sappy, smooth and long, with terrific fruity persistence. I could drink this tonight! Clearly an outstanding vintage for this cuvée. (The Chassagne-Montrachet Clos du C ...

Its creamy texture and harmony belie its complexity, but the finish is long and satisfying. 2017 Chateau de la Maltroye Bourgogne Aligote

Château de la Maltroye is a Burgundian wine estate in Chassagne-Montrachet, boasting a superb 18th century château sitting on top of cellars dating back to the 1400s. Quality has increased greatly since the early 1990s when Jean-Pierre Cornut took over the estate. Allen Meadows of Bourghound says: "Jean-Pierre Cournut had evident relief in his voice when he told me that the 2017 "growing season was so much easier than the seriously difficult 2016 season that had us chasing our tails for most of it. We arrived at the harvest without incident beyond anothe ...

2017 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos du Chateau"

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(a monopole that is situated within Maltroie). A very pungent nose is composed by notes of petrol, smoke and sulfur that are enough to bury the fruit at present so I would suggest decanting this first if you’re tempted to try a bottle young. Otherwise there is good punch if only average density to the delicious and appealingly stony medium weight flavors that terminate in a dry, clean and citrusy finish." (06/2019)

Background hints of matchstick and sulfur are present on the riper aromas of both white and yellow orchard fruit that exhibit whiffs of citrus zest and floral nuances. The lush, rich and enveloping medium weight flavors possess good volume if not necessarily great mid-palate density, all wrapped in a seductively textured and bone dry finish. The wine's white fruit flavors and mineral tension will need time to harmonize, but there's enough thickness of texture here to support at least mid-term aging.
