2013 Il Valentiano "Campo di Marzo" Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberry and oyster shell follow through to a medium to full body, silky tannins and a bright finish. Not the most complex wine but delicious. Drink now." (11/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Il Valentiano 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Campo di Marzo is a densely enriched expression of Sangiovese. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, plum and dried fig. There is barbecue spice and sweet tobacco as well. Three years in oak has shaped the volume and the rich texture of the wine. The wine is a bit edgy o...

2014 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wild herb, perfumed berry and pressed rose aromas lift out of the glass along with a whiff of eucalyptus. Smooth, delicious and balanced, the lithe palate has great tension, doling out juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and baking spice backed up by vibrant acidity. Silky tannins give it extraordinary elegance and linear structure. It won't take years to come around but it also boasts good midterm aging potential. *Editor's Choice* (KO)" (02/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like most producers in ...

2015 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "The sliced plums and peaches are plentiful here on the nose. Full-bodied and dense with round and rich tannins and a long, long finish. Shows structure and intensity. Serious Brunello. Better after 2022." (10/2019)

2014 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Tenuta di Sesta 2014 Brunello di Montalcino opens to an evolved appearance that showcases dark garnet saturation. However, this expression is also thicker and slightly more concentrated compared to many of its peers in this vintage. In 2014, the wines are lighter, generally speaking. You get a bright bouquet with crisp aromas of wild berry, blue flower and spice. The thinness of the vintage is apparent to the palate. This is a compact and streamlined Brunello with medium length. Some 30,000 bottles were made....

92 points James Suckling: "Red cherry compote, dried herbs and spices. Full body, ripe and juicy tannins and a succulent finish." (07/2018)

96 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit, mushrooms, violets and roses. Full body, very fine tannins and a wonderful finish. Shows so much intensity and clarity. Gorgeous red. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Thanks to that dark garnet hue, you recognize this as Brunello just as soon as this beautiful wine pours from the bottle. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Duelecci Est showcases that sultry and sophisticated appearance that you get with Sangiovese that has been expertly aged for six long years. The ...

2015 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "This understated Brunello delivers dried cherries, cumin, terracotta, rust and bark. The full-bodied palate presents an intricately detailed tapestry of finely interwoven tannins, interspersed with compressed, vibrant cherries and gilded in colorful, gleaming acidity. The finish is vivacious and polished and very long. Drink in 2024." (09/2019)

91 points James Suckling: "A pretty sangiovese with red cherries and cedar. Medium body, fine tannins and a fruity finish. Drink now." (07/2018) K&L Notes: Founded by Mauro Pacini in 1983, Fattoria Lecciaia is an estate that combines traditional practices with modern technology. Located in the Vallafrico area, bordering the oldest and most prestigious vineyards of Montalcino, the estate extends over 60 hectares with vineyards, olive trees and oak trees, with 15 hectares dedicated to the Sangiovese Grosso grape which produces Brunello di Montalcino.

2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Quite understated for a 2015 Brunello, this shows heather, rose petals and tulips. Hints of bark, red licorice and cedar. Medium-to full-bodied with silky, sleek tannins and lots of mouthwatering acidity drive. Refined and elegant. Drink in 2021." (10/2019)

92 points Decanter: "Luca Brunelli runs this 15ha family estate on the outskirts of Montalcino, producing a Brunello and this lovely Rosso. It's an excellent price for the quality, showing firm tannins and exotic spice from the nine months in Slavonian barrels and French barriques. This is fleshed out by ripe black cherry fruit and lifted by brisk acidity. Tina Gellie" (09/2018)

2015 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Beautiful ripeness, but also balance on the nose, which features cinnamon, dried cedar, dried plums, dark chocolate and licorice. Expansive and comprehensive on the palate with outward-veering tannins and lots of treacle-tart undertones. Chewy and decadent." (10/2019)

2015 Poggio Antico "Altero" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "A beautiful cascade of blue and darker fruit precedes generous, enticing notes of saffron, dried orange rind, cumin, roasted thyme and nutmeg. Balanced and tightly framed on the medium-to full-bodied palate with mouthwatering fruit and crunchy acidity, coloring an ornately woven structure of silky tannins. Very long and velvety on the finish. Everything is where it should be. " (09/2019)

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. Decadent with dark-chocolate flavors and rustic tannnins, but there’s a fine line of acidity to drive this to a tidy if silty finish. Drink in 2025." (10/2019)

2015 La Fiorita Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate: "Currently, the estate consists of four parcels, each with different compositions of limestone clay. The four parcels are La Fiorita, Pian Bossolino, Poggio al Sole and Giardinello, and fruit from each is fermented separately in order to decide which grapes go to the Rosso and which go to the Brunello. In truth, the whole property is registered for the production of Brunello, so the Rosso di Montalcino is in effect a declassified Brunello. The vines average out to be about 20 years old." (01/2019)
Price: $29.99

Poggiarellino is a small property in the north of Montalcino and is not far from Altesino, they started making wine with the 1996 vintage and slowly grew their production, K&L started importing their wine with the 2000 vintage. Their Brunello di Montalcino production is usually about 450 cases to 500 cases and about half of that number for the Rosso di Montalcino. The Brunello is aged in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels and the Rosso di Montalcino is aged in stainless steel tanks.

2015 Giodo Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "This is a splendid Brunello, showing extraordinary purity of sangiovese character. Cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Full-bodied with incredibly integrated tannins that seem like they are not there. But they are and are comprehensive on the palate. Great depth and agility. Just floats on the palate. Magic carpet. Drinkable, to enjoy the magic, but needs three or four years to come around." (10/2019)

92 points Vinous: "Le Ragnaie's 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is striking. Deep and yet wonderfully translucent, the 2016 captures the purest essence of Sangiovese. Sweet red cherry, mint, rose petal and sweet spice give the 2016 a striking upper register of aromatic brilliance to play off its mid-weight personality. This is such a pretty and expressive wine. It's all class here. (AG)" (10/2019) Wine Spectator: "Textbook aromas and flavors of cherry, almond, iron, sanguine and leather mark this balanced, expressive red. Fresh and moderately long. Drink now ...

2013 Albatreti Brunello di Montalcino (Elsewhere $56) (Elsewhere $56)
Top Pick!
90 points Vinous: "Medium red. Reticent but ultimately perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, iris and herbs on the nose. Then juicy and broad in the mouth, showing a savory saline touch to the red currant and raspberry fruit flavors. Energetic and long on the fresh finish. (ID)" (04/2018)

91 points Wine Spectator: "A racy style whose vibrant acidity drives flavors of black cherry, black currant, iron, earth and soy. Still very firm, with the acidity acting in tandem with refined tannins. Fine length. Drink now through 2033. 4,166 cases made, 2,000 cases imported. - BS" (10/2019)

2014 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
93 points Vinous: "Moderately saturated ruby-red. Exotic mineral- and citrus-driven aromas of red cherry, blue fruit liqueur, blood orange and Asian spices, with a sexy floral nuance gaining strength with air. Supple and expansive on the palate, showcasing sweet red cherry and rather savory dark plum flavors lifted by just enough bracing acidity. Densely packed for a 2014 Brunello, at once fleshy and broad but also lively and precise, showing excellent power and cut on the strikingly long finish, characterized by youthfully dusty tannins and a hint of ca...

2015 Il Valentiano "Campo di Marzo" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

Soft cherry and spice on the nose. Quite light and elegant with a pure, sour-cherry core and grainy tannins. (WS)" (01/2019) James Suckling: "Fresh-leather and dried-berry aromas. This sees quite punchy tannins and tart red fruit wrestling a litt...

95 points James Suckling: "Very attractive and intense aromas of ripe black cherries and plums, leading to a palate that has a quite firm tannin core and finishes with a convincing serving of rich, ripe darker plums and berries. Drink or hold." (01/2019) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Fluid and fruity, supported by a matrix of dense tannins, this features a fine texture and structure, offsetting the saturated flavors of cherry, red berry, leather, iron and tar. Stays focused while cruising to a lingering finish. Really youthful, intense and long. (BS)" (06...

2015 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)

2017 Mocali Rosso di Montalcino

1988 Soldera (Case Basse) Brunello di Montalcino
Back In Stock!
97 points Vinous: "Absolutely stunning, the 1988 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine that demands undivided attention. Huge tannins provide the backdrop as this dark, brooding Brunello struts its stuff. The flavors are dark and intense throughout, with tons of energy that gives the wine its focus and sense of direction. It’s hard to move on after the 1988, a wine that captures the essence of Sangiovese from Montalcino in this great vintage." (01/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This large-scaled, intensely fragrant Brunello offers up a lavi...

2012 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino
Back In Stock!
96 points James Suckling: "I like the ripe-fruit and smoked-meat aromas to this. Subtle and complex. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and chewy finish. Needs time to soften. Very structured for the vintage." (11/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Valdicava represents its own school within the greater Brunello philosophy. This estate (under proprietor Vincenzo Abbruzzese) crafts contemporary and modern wines with noticeable density and ever-present aromatic intensity. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a dark and ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A vineyard-designated Brunello with sharp clarity and purity. Sangiovese aromas of wild berry, earth, pressed blue flower and forest floor. Lively and direct on the palate, with integrated acidity and firm structure. — M.L." (05/2012) 92 points James Suckling: "Very ripe fruit on the nose verging on jam. Full-bodied, with round and soft tannins and a intensely fruit aftertaste. Give it a year or two to come together more." (01/2012) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Wild, smoky aromas of ...

2009 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino
Back In Stock!
90 points James Suckling: "A clean, fresh red with dried-strawberry and lemon-rind character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a chewy finish. Always excellent. Drink or hold." (02/2014) 90 points Vinous: "The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty wine, with good freshness and solid overall balance for the year. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, smoke and spice meld together nicely in the glass. Although a bit compact and forward, the 2009 offers lovely drinking today and should develop nicely for the next decade or so. In 2009, Mastrojanni did not pr...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of Petit Verdot and Syrah, the 2016 Il Toro is a muscular animal that boldly exposes dark fruit, blackberry preserves, dried cherry, spice, leather and spicy cedar. The blend is unique because it pairs the volume and spicy intensity of Syrah with the density, darkness and structure of Petit Verdot. Softer aromas of sweet fruit cede quickly to tar, grilled herb and rich plum. Pair this wine with grilled T-bone steak. This is a bold and expressive wine that opens a new chapter for Filippo Chia and his talen...

95 points James Suckling: "Extremely perfumed and decadent with dried fruit, orange peel and meat on the nose. Full body, linear and bright with intense citrus. Long and powerful. Like a Barolo! Drink or hold. Made from organic grapes." (11/2017) 93 points Vinous: "Bright red. Perfumed, precise aromas of raspberry, strawberry, espresso, minerals and violet. Penetrating, linear and youthfully juicy and fresh, featuring raspberry and bitter cherry fruit flavors given clarity by firm but harmonious acidity and a pronounced mineral component that is very L...

95 points James Suckling: "A dense and rich Brunello with lots of ripe fruit, spices and hints of new wood. Full-bodied, chewy and rich. A muscular wine that needs time to come together." (09/2019)

92 points James Suckling: " Love the aromas of flowers and strawberries with cherries that follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. A nice combination of savory character and fresh acidity. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Argiano's 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is visibly thinner and leaner compared to any other past vintage that comes to mind. The aromas are stripped down as well, but I do think there is a good chance that they will flesh out with more time in the bottle. Brunello t...

2012 Franco Pacenti Canalicchio Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino shows excellent continuity with past vintages and underlines a house style that is specific to this estate. This is a nuanced and delicate expression of Sangiovese that delivers grace and power. It walks a fine line between these two opposites. The bouquet is redolent of wild berry, red currant, grilled herb, wild mushroom and underbrush. I gave the 2011 vintage the same score, although the differences between the two wines are pronounced. The 2011 vintage shows the warm climate wi...

100 points James Suckling: "Decadent aromas of ripe fruit, such as plums and peaches with black truffles and porcini mushrooms. Full body, with layers of ripe fruit and round and chewy tannins. Lots of chocolate and fresh mushroom at the finish. A thoroughly terroir-driven red. Try after 2022." (10/2019)

92 points Vinous: "Luminous red. Perfumed aromas of red cherry and berries are complicated by sweet spices, minerals and herbs. Bright, penetrating, and rather subtle in its delivery of a juicy, satisfying ensemble of red cherry, blood orange and licorice flavors. The mouthfeel is firm but nicely ripe, and the invigorating long finish is laced with zingy floral and mineral notes. A lovely, precise 2014 Brunello from a relatively new producer worth watching, as I was impressed by his wines last year too. (ID)" (03/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "An att...

92 points James Suckling: "Shows some really good, spicy complexity with fresh herbs, wet earth, red berries, oranges and lemons. Very sexy and refined with good concentration and so much tangy acidity and citrus character throughout. " (06/2019)

98 points James Suckling: "This is the best wine ever from Poggio Antico. Aromas of blackberries and flowers follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a polished tannin mouth-feel. This is really structured, yet elegant. Wonderful purity. " (01/2012) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Altero is a gorgeous, sleek wine laced with dark red cherries, kirsch, menthol, pine and spices. Sweet floral notes wrap around the silky finish. The 2007 stands out for its finessed texture and impeccable overall ba...

Villa Poggio Salvi is a Tuscan wine estate based in Montalcino, known for its Brunello di Montalcino wines made from the Sangiovese grape. It has been owned by the Tagliabue family since 1979, although winegrowing here dates back to the 16th century. Villa Poggio Salvi makes a range of wines from the area, led by Pomona, a single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino named after the Roman goddess of fruitful abundance, whose image features on all labels. This wine is aged for 30 months in Slavonian oak before release. The Montalcino lineup also includes a stan...
Price: $69.99

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This older release is paired with the 2011 Riserva in a special packaging effort now proposed by the new management team at Tenuta Greppo. The Biondi-Santi 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva was never previously reviewed; therefore, I am very excited to add an official record of this stunning wine to our database. This vintage delivers structure and age-worthy intensity that should carry it forward successfully for more years ahead. However, if you decide to pop the cork now, rest assured that this excellent Bru...

2014 Mocali Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
90 points James Suckling: "The rose-petal and stewed-fruit perfumes in this are curious. It’s medium-bodied, firm and chewy with a medium finish. Drink or hold a year or two." (06/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark flavors of black cherry and blackberry are equally matched by dry, dusty tannins in this lush version. Stays bright and focused, picking up an earthy accent on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2033. (BS)" (06/2019) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine opens to a lean ruby color with pretty raspberry highlights. The ...

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wild-berry, fragrant purple-flower and crushed aromatic herb aromas mingle with whiffs of tilled earth and new leather on this dazzling red. The stunning, savory palate boasts remarkable finesse combined with an age-worthy structure, offering succulent black cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and tobacco alongside taut, refined tannins. It's impeccably balanced, with bright acidity. It's already tempting, but hold for even more complexity. Drink 2021–2033. (KO)" (06/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although t...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I've always said that Jan Hendrik Erbach is a maniac when it comes to the details. This wine is normally called "Vigneti del Versante," with the Italian word for vineyards ("vigneti") in plural because fruit comes from more than one site, but just this one time, the wine is called "Vigneto" (in the singular tense) because fruit was sourced from a single vineyard instead. The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto del Versante sees fruit sourced from the Scopeta vineyard (planted in 2003), and this single-vineyard ex...

2009 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino
Back In Stock!
92 points James Suckling: "A full, chewy red with velvety tannins and lots of berry, chocolate and cherry character. Rich and balanced. (ML)" (02/2014) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino comes across as lush and concentrated with bold fruit tones that wrap smoothly over the palate. The wine is well-balanced and really doesn't show overt signs of the hot 2009 vintage. In fact, the bright crispness, backed by sharp aromas of chopped mint and blue flower, show the quality of fruit that comes from this historic estate...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino offers up freshly cut flowers, black cherries, minerals, new leather and menthol in a polished, totally vibrant style that is highly appealing. Over time, the wine’s inner sweetness emerges, hinting at what is in store over the coming years. Still quite firm, the estate’s Brunello will need a few years in the cellar. It will appeal most to readers who like firm, ageworthy wines. This finish impresses for its focus and overall purity. Smoke, underbrush, tar and a host of other aroma...
