San Venanzio Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut
Top Pick!
91 points Decanter: "Richly aromatic with apple and lemon curd notes. A soft, well-integrated mousse is complemented by notes of lemon sherbet. Blind tasted by Fabio Giavedoni, Andy Howard MW, Alessandra Piubello (at The Institute of Masters of Wine, 29 Nov 2018) " (11/2018) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth and fresh, this has delicate scents of wild flower, lemon and a whiff of crushed herb. On the bright, creamy palate, crisp acidity and a polished, foaming mousse offset green apple, white peach and citrus zest. (KO) " (12/2017) K&L Notes: San V...

Wine Enthusiast: "Honeysuckle, honeydew melon and white-peach aromas follow through to the somewhat sweet palate along with a note of glazed orange zest. Fresh acidity lifts the rich candied flavors. (KO)" (12/2017) K&L Notes: The Bronca sisters grow their own fruit on steep hillside vineyards, then make base wine and perform the secondary (sparkling) fermentation on non-vintage batches three or four times a year to ensure freshness. Low yields and hillside-grown fruit ensure that the wine has good concentration and acidity. This one's a clean, crisp a...

90 points Vinous: "Pale straw green. Delicate mineral nuances dominate the white flower and green apple notes on the nose and in the mouth. Linear and with an austere quality to its bright, high acid but harmonious personality. Finishes long and very clean with hints of nectarine and sage. Lovely entry-level Soave Classico that boasts sneaky concentration. Mostly Garganega with a little Trebbiano di Soave. (ID)" (07/2019)
Price: $16.99

Gelmino and Cristina Dal Bosco started their winery in 2002 when the family decided to stop selling their grapes to the local co-op and make wine themselves. The winery and vineyards are located in the town of Brognoligo in the heart of the Soave Classico production area that is limited only to the communes of Soave and Monteforte d’Alpone in the province of Verona. The Montesei bottling is 100% Garganega which is harvested by hand and vinified in stainless steel. The color of the wine is a yellow straw, and the profile bright and floral with mineral det...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This has always been one of my favorite sparkling wines from northeast Italy. The Sorelle Bronca NV Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Particella 68 Brut is a single-vineyard expression (from parcel 68). The wine boasts a beautiful and delicate bouquet with wild flowers, soft peach, white violets and honey. The quality of the bubbling is fine and laser sharp. You get excellent value here. (ML) 91+" (06/2018) K&L Notes: The Bronca sisters grow their own fruit in steep hillside vineyards, then make base wine and pe...

93 points Decanter: "Mouthfilling and rich, unveiling a lovely creamy blanket of dried cherry and plum fruit, propelled by an enlivening vein of acidity. Highly satisfying yet still youthful. (Panel Tasting)" (01/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This opens with aromas of ripe black-skinned fruit, resin and roasted coffee bean. The warm, dense palate delivers espresso, dried black cherry, clove and vanilla alongside close-grained tannins. (KO)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: Corte Rugolin is the name of an old manor house of the late 1600`s. This property, owned by Coun...

93 points James Suckling: "I love the brambly nuances to this red, which suggests forest floor, dried plums, dried herbs and cedar. Full-bodied and chewy with grainy tannins and spice undertones throughout. Long and beautiful. Drink now or hold." (11/2019)

A blend of the traditional Valpolicella varieties sourced from three of the estate's vineyard sites, this is a gorgeous expression of Amarone for a stupendous price. From the winery: "Made from a selection of the best native grapes, which are processed following the 'appassimento' method for three months, in line with an age-old tradition in Valpolicella. It is garnet-red in colour, with a full, dry, velvety taste, and intense aromas of cherries macerated in alcohol, wild berries and spices. Uncork a few hours before drinking and serve at 18-20°C."

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delicate aromas of white flowers, stone fruit and pear lead the way. On the palate, a core of green apple and citrus is carried by vibrant, fresh acidity. Small, lively bubbles lend finesse. *Best Buy* (KO)" (12/2015) Wine Spectator: "A clean Prosecco, with apple and a hint of grapefruit and mineral. Medium froth, with a crisp finish. (JC, Web-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Quince, herbs and a touch of aspirin. This really has a lot more fruit depth than most Proseccos at this price. Medium dry but finishes fresh. Well priced, ju...

90 points James Suckling: "A firm and silky red with berry and stone character, medium body and a fresh finish." (08/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "This boasts aromas of ripe strawberry, violet and a touch of eucalyptus. The light-bodied, juicy palate offers raspberry jam, cinnamon and red cherry alongside fresh acidity and smooth tannins. (KO)" (02/2018)

Antonio Galloni writes: "Trabucchi makes intense, fruit-forward wines from biologically-certified vineyards in Illasi, one of the valleys that emerges on the eastern side of the Valpolicella zone."

Graziano Prà is one of the hidden geniuses in Italian wine. Although his holdings in Soave produce his most renowned wines, he also has 7 hectares in Valpolicella from which he makes precisely defined and yet utterly unique reds. The 2018 Valpolicella Morandina is a Corvina-dominant wine sourced from vineyards in Mezzane and Tregnano that sit around 450 meters elevation on chalky, glacial soils. The grapes are dried for about 20 days and then fermented in stainless steel before being transferred to French oak botti for three to six months. The wines of P...

90 points Wine & Spirits: "There's a hint of complexity in the interplay between this wine's gentle sweetness and crisp acidity, like biting into a freshly picked ripe pear. It's lean and focused, a match for warm goat cheese on crostini." (12/2009) Wine Enthusiast: "This offers aromas of wisteria, jasmine, white stone fruit and a whiff of almond. The luminous palate doles out green apple, white peach, nectarine zest and a hint of crystallized ginger accompanied by vibrant acidity and small, persistent bubbles. 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta is my favorite wine in the retrospective, along with the amazing 2011, 2009 and 1996 vintages. This wine was released at the beginning of this year, and because Dal Forno skipped over the 2014 vintage, this is the only Amarone we will see for a while (until the highly anticipated 2015 is released). The 2013 vintage is characterized by a slightly more streamlined mouthfeel (which isn't saying much given the baseline enormity of these wines) with carefully etched ...

From the winery: "Amarone 'Terre di San Zeno' is a blend of Valpolicella traditional grapes, which are picked only after a careful selection of the ripest clusters on the vines and placed to undergo the appassimento process, inducing air to dry out the grapes. This process lasts up to 4 months. The crushing takes place only at the beginning of the year following the harvest, with a very long fermentation, 25 – 30 days, due both to the temperature of the season (February – March) and to the naturally high alcohol level of the must. After a long maturation...

98 points James Suckling: "This is full throttle style with loads of black chocolate and dark fruits on the nose and the palate. Minerally, gun powder undertone. It's very full and powerful with super pretty tannins and a long finish. Gorgeous wine all around. Romano is a genius. " (04/2011) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Is this a bruiser or what? Opaque in color, with monster aromatics that run from tar and espresso to maple, violets, cumin and finely scented candle wax. Deep and intense as they come, with charcoal and menthol notes on top of primary bl...

The estate of Giuseppe Quintarelli, the Veneto’s most important producer, has received justifiable renown for its near-mythical Amarone, Recioto and the cult wine, Alzero. As resolute traditionalists, the Quintarelli estate follows the winemaking protocol established by Giuseppe, practices he learned from his father and grandfather. Therefore, Quintarelli wines are always small in allocation, high in demand, and stratospheric in quality--even the most connected wine-lovers find the Quintarelli wines difficult to obtain. As with the estate’s Amarone, Qui...

Bid on this 4-500 ml-bottle lot of 1996 Allegrini "Giovanni Allegrini" Recioto della Valpolicella Classico Veneto (500ml). Wine Spectator: "Very direct sweet red, with berry, Indian spice and boysenberry character. Medium body, and sweet, with a long caressing finish. (JS, Web Only-2001)"
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this bottle of 1975 Bertani Amarone Recioto della Valpolicella Classico Superiore. This historic firm was founded in 1857 at Quinto di Valpentena by brothers Giovanbattista and Gaetano Bertani. This Recioto, among the world longest-lived wines, owes its strength and power from the same method used to make the dry Amarone (grapes picked at optimal ripeness and dried on straw mats in special outbuildings, then pressed and fermented). In this case, however, the resulting wine stops its fermentation early thereby preserving its sweetness. At the table it acts like your finest vintage port, though with less brut alcoholic strength and a more pronounced fruitcake/raisin aroma. This is also tremendous with old and bleu cheeses.
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1994 Serafini & Vidotto "Il Rosso dell'Abazia" Montello-Colli Asolani. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine, which is aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels, is a blend of approximately 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10-15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. It is a finesse-styled, austere, Bordeaux-like wine that should handsomely repay aging. Revealing a dark ruby color, the 1994 offers an attractive nose of charcoal, chocolate, and red currants, as well as a slight austerity and leanness in the finish. Moderate tannin is present, but the wine is drinkable, and seemingly on a fast evolutionary track. (RP)" (08/1999)

Bid on this 3L-bottle of 1998 Masi "Riserva Del Vino" Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico (3L).
Starting Bid: $200.00

95 points Wine Spectator: "A velvety, full-bodied version, loaded with blackberry coulis, baked black cherry and tar-tinged smoke flavors that ripple across the palate. Offers lovely accents of dried mint, tobacco, iron and anise that echo on the firm finish. A powerhouse, with plenty in reserve. Best from 2022 through 2032. 250 cases imported. *Highly Recommended* (AN)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: PLEASE NOTE: This product is offered as a complete case in original packaging. If the wines are going to be shipped upon arrival, the bottles will be sent in pulp...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Giuseppe Quintarelli "Rosso del Bepi" Veneto (91VN, 90WE). Vinous: "The 2002 Rosso del Bepi shows all the Quintarelli signatures, but in miniature, as is the case when the estate declassifies its Amarone juice into this bottling. Juicy dark cherries, flowers and spices all blossom in the glass in a perfumed, mid-weight wine endowed with lovely balance. The 2002 boasts gorgeous inner perfume, but logically not the body or richness of the Quintarelli Amarones. Still, it is a very pretty wine, especially if taken on its own terms. (AG)" (03/2014)
