2016 Fèlsina "Fontalloro" Toscana (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Amazing aromas of licorice, wet earth, orange peel and lavender. Full body, tight and super compact and polished. Goes on for minutes. Clearly great. Better in 2021, but already a star." (06/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Fontalloro is the best vintage of this landmark wine that I have tasted thus far. This is a very elegant vintage, with more volume in the mouth and precise notes of tar, licorice, camphor ash, resin and Indian spice. In a race between the highly competitive 2015 and 2016 vintages, I...

2013 Il Valentiano "Campo di Marzo" Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberry and oyster shell follow through to a medium to full body, silky tannins and a bright finish. Not the most complex wine but delicious. Drink now." (11/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Il Valentiano 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Campo di Marzo is a densely enriched expression of Sangiovese. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, plum and dried fig. There is barbecue spice and sweet tobacco as well. Three years in oak has shaped the volume and the rich texture of the wine. The wine is a bit edgy o...

2015 Silla Il Piaggione Chianti Classico Riserva
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed, this red features ripe black cherry, blackberry, black currant, violet, iron, loamy earth and sanguine aromas and flavors. More approachable than its peers at this stage, with fine structure, if a little less density. Long finish. Drink now through 2032. (BS)" (07/2019)

Fabiano and Valentina are the next generation owners of one of the oldest properties in Montalcino. The local Brunello grapes (Sangiovese Grosso) are world-renowned known for their rich flavors and ability to age beautifully. Rosso di Montalcino DOC – 100% Sangiovese. The typical meal in this part of Tuscany always starts with the Rosso (Red) and ends with the Brunello, followed by a Vin Santo. Rosso is the second growth of Brunello and still very enjoyable! Medium body, peppery, fresh in acidity; pairs well with antipasti with Lardo di Colonnata, mild ...

2015 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "The sliced plums and peaches are plentiful here on the nose. Full-bodied and dense with round and rich tannins and a long, long finish. Shows structure and intensity. Serious Brunello. Better after 2022." (10/2019)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Streamlined and elegant, this mid-weight red trots out notes of grilled herb and dark fruit nuances that segue to spice, tilled earth and savory tobacco, with great complexity. This 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga is still a bit closed and tight, but this beautiful wine boasts all the best qualities of this vintage. It shows elegance and power, two contrasting characteristics that only work well together in the world's most achieved expressions. The most satisfying aspect of this Riserva is the crisp aci...

Ettore Spina and his wife, Enrica Bandirola, owners of Sesta di Sopra, planted a new vineyard to Sangiovese in 2005. It has the same Galestro soils as the others, perfect for taming Sangiovese's natural vigor. Unfortunately, in Montalcino all of the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards are all registered and controlled, and they aren't allowing any more to be added right now, so the wine that comes from this new vineyard has to be designated an IGT (Indicates Geographic Tipicity). (Greg St. Clair, K&L Italian Wine Buyer)

92 points James Suckling: "Red cherry compote, dried herbs and spices. Full body, ripe and juicy tannins and a succulent finish." (07/2018)

2014 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wild herb, perfumed berry and pressed rose aromas lift out of the glass along with a whiff of eucalyptus. Smooth, delicious and balanced, the lithe palate has great tension, doling out juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and baking spice backed up by vibrant acidity. Silky tannins give it extraordinary elegance and linear structure. It won't take years to come around but it also boasts good midterm aging potential. *Editor's Choice* (KO)" (02/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like most producers in ...

90 points Wine Spectator: "A broad, supple version, displaying ripe plum, cherry, licorice and stony flavors. Grainy tannins shore up the finish, with an overall impression of balance and brightness. (BS)" (10/2019) Decanter: "Pleasant and complex floral aromatics. Ripe cherry fruits with an almost jammy character on the palate. (panel tasting) " (06/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This has aromas of underbrush, charred earth, leather and a whiff of cured meat. On the linear, no-frills palate, dusty tannins accompany licorice, espresso and sour cherry. (KO)"...

This has been the #1 selling Italian wine for more than two decades at K&L! You can't get that kind of continued success without a supremely fantastic quality-to-price ratio. The southern Tuscan coast is a wonderful location for winemaking, with stable temperatures and a solid history of quality, yet no fame and fortune. Incredibly priced bargains come out of the region, and the proof is in the bottle. This wine is wonderful, soft, forward and easy-to-drink Sangiovese with an enticing mixture of cherry, plum and earth. Eminently drinkable.

2014 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Tenuta di Sesta 2014 Brunello di Montalcino opens to an evolved appearance that showcases dark garnet saturation. However, this expression is also thicker and slightly more concentrated compared to many of its peers in this vintage. In 2014, the wines are lighter, generally speaking. You get a bright bouquet with crisp aromas of wild berry, blue flower and spice. The thinness of the vintage is apparent to the palate. This is a compact and streamlined Brunello with medium length. Some 30,000 bottles were made....

2015 La Massa "Giorgio Primo" Toscana
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine blew my mind. The 2015 Giorgio Primo is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. I'm told that the percentage of Merlot will increase in 2016 (to a majority role) but will diminish by a large margin in 2017 because that hot vintage was so difficult on early-ripening varieties. The bouquet is nothing short of explosive, with inky black fruit followed by pencil shaving, chalkboard, wet river stone and all the other beautiful mineral notes that I so closely associate with Panzano in Chianti....

Pablo Härri arrived in Italy from Switzerland in the early '80s and met his partner and wife Claudia Ferrero while both were working at a large winery in Montalcino. The two started a family and in 2002 built their own winery in a restored barn and stable. Their winery has a prestigious location on the southwestern slope in Montalcino, between Banfi’s Poggio alle Mura vineyard and Argiano. Pablo passed away in October of 2017. He left his wife Claudia and their three daughters, two of whom have followed his footsteps as a winemakers. Today the winery pr...

96 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit, mushrooms, violets and roses. Full body, very fine tannins and a wonderful finish. Shows so much intensity and clarity. Gorgeous red. Drink or hold. " (12/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Thanks to that dark garnet hue, you recognize this as Brunello just as soon as this beautiful wine pours from the bottle. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Duelecci Est showcases that sultry and sophisticated appearance that you get with Sangiovese that has been expertly aged for six long years. The ...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Mature berry, sunbaked earth, underbrush and eucalyptus aromas lift out of the glass along with whiffs of clove. On the full-bodied palate, taut, polished tannins support fleshy black cherry, ripe cranberry and a hint of dried herbs. (KO)" (07/2019) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "id ruby. Very mineral and brooding with an undertow of ripe fruit. Plenty of concentrated, ripe cherry and strawberry fruit and muscular yet finely built tannins. Long, firm finish that is elegant at the same time. Could do with a little more age. (WS)...

92 points James Suckling: "Attractive currants and berries with hints of walnuts and cedar. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now or hold. JS" (06/2019) K&L Notes: 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Petit Verdot

92 points James Suckling: "A pretty, refined red with floral, citrus and plum aromas and flavors. Medium body, fine tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now and enjoy." (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Plum-cake, French oak, rose and leather aromas lift out of the glass. The oak aroma carries over to the palate, along with dried cherry, licorice and espresso. It's rather austere, with tight close-grained tannins that grip the finish. (KO)" (03/2019)

2015 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "Aromas of plums, cherries and hints of green olives. White truffles and deep earth, too. Full-bodied, so layered and beautiful with a fabulous texture and ripe tannins. It is so pure and minimalist in the end, showing the effect of traditional, hands-off winemaking. Don’t miss this. Decant before serving. One for the cellar. " (01/2019) 94 points Decanter: "Castello di Monsanto is in a warm pocket but the vineyards are well-ventilated by sea breezes and temperatures fall sharply at night. The Bianchi family uses autochthonous...

Tenuta La Fortuna's Fortunello bottling is 100% Sangiovese grown in Tuscany. Vintages are aged for four months in French oak barrels and typically show aromas of raspberries and cherries, with deep chocolaty tones lingering on the finish. This tastes significantly more expensive than it is!
Price: $14.99

91 points James Suckling: "A pretty sangiovese with red cherries and cedar. Medium body, fine tannins and a fruity finish. Drink now." (07/2018) K&L Notes: Founded by Mauro Pacini in 1983, Fattoria Lecciaia is an estate that combines traditional practices with modern technology. Located in the Vallafrico area, bordering the oldest and most prestigious vineyards of Montalcino, the estate extends over 60 hectares with vineyards, olive trees and oak trees, with 15 hectares dedicated to the Sangiovese Grosso grape which produces Brunello di Montalcino.

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. Decadent with dark-chocolate flavors and rustic tannnins, but there’s a fine line of acidity to drive this to a tidy if silty finish. Drink in 2025." (10/2019)

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "Chopped mint, forest floor, tilled earth and wild berry are just some of the aromas you'll find on this stunning, structured red. Full bodied yet elegant, the palate delivers crushed raspberry, ripe Marasca cherry, clove and licorice framed in tightly-knit, noble tannins. Fresh acidity lends balance. It's already remarkable but will be even better with more bottle age once the tannins unwind a bit. Drink 2022-2042. *Cellar Selection* (KO)" (05/2019) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dedicated to Nello Baricci, the ce...

2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Quite understated for a 2015 Brunello, this shows heather, rose petals and tulips. Hints of bark, red licorice and cedar. Medium-to full-bodied with silky, sleek tannins and lots of mouthwatering acidity drive. Refined and elegant. Drink in 2021." (10/2019)

92 points Decanter: "Luca Brunelli runs this 15ha family estate on the outskirts of Montalcino, producing a Brunello and this lovely Rosso. It's an excellent price for the quality, showing firm tannins and exotic spice from the nine months in Slavonian barrels and French barriques. This is fleshed out by ripe black cherry fruit and lifted by brisk acidity. Tina Gellie" (09/2018)

2015 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Beautiful ripeness, but also balance on the nose, which features cinnamon, dried cedar, dried plums, dark chocolate and licorice. Expansive and comprehensive on the palate with outward-veering tannins and lots of treacle-tart undertones. Chewy and decadent." (10/2019)

2016 La Fortuna Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
Rosso di Montalcino too often sits in the shadow of its much bigger brother, Brunello. But some estates put nearly the care and expense into their Rosso as their big guns, and La Fortuna is clearly an example of this sort of winemaking. Intense in terms of fruit, but showing off admirable acidity, this is spicy, full bodied, dry and rich with a softness hiding amid all that tannic structure. A wine to drink while your Brunello ages, yes, but a quality wine nonetheless. From vines 15-25 years of age, aged for one year in barrique, 6 months of this in Fren...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine opens to rich intensity and a dark purple-blackish color that is simply gorgeous to behold. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is a superb expression that delivers so much joy on almost every measurable level. This vintage offers superb density and intensity with sharply defined aromas of black cherry, ripe blackberry, spice, leather and moist tobacco. There is a sweet note on the close that lasts for a minute or two before returning your taste buds to sophisticated and savory flavors. Thi...

91 points James Suckling: "Bright and fruity with bilberries, citrus and earl grey tea. Citrusy and fine on the light-to medium-bodied palate. Firm but generous tannins. Drink now." (11/2019) K&L Notes: From the producer: "The Ricci family was born in 1150; Palazzo Ricci, one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces of Montepulciano, was commissioned by Cardinal Giovanni Ricci in 1534 by the best architect of the moment, the Sienese Baldassarre Peruzzi and finished being constructed in 1562. The Cantina De’Ricci was part of the project for the Palace...

Wine Enthusiast: "Vibrant and poised, this charming red opens with scents of red berry, iris and aromatic herb. The luminous palate offers red cherry, mint and orange zest while a firm vein of acidity and supple tannins provide freshness and an easy-drinking structure. (KO)" (12/2016) K&L Notes: The Podere Brizio has just over 28 acres of Sangiovese vines destined for Brunello, Brunello Riserva and Rosso. The wines are aged in 54-hectolitre Allier French oak casks. That one big barrel holds the equivalent of 24 of the most familiar size of wine barrel,...

A blend of 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot from a 200-hectare estate with 30 hectares under vine. The property has been owned and managed by Giovanni Ciacci and his family since 1996. The first bottles of Brunello from the Tenuta di Sesta Estate were produced in 1966 by Giuseppe Ciacci, father of current owner. According to the winery, there were only twelve other such producers at the time and, for this reason, the Tenuta di Sesta Estate is recognized as one of the historical estates in the territory of Montalcino.

2015 La Fiorita Rosso di Montalcino
Top Pick!
Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate: "Currently, the estate consists of four parcels, each with different compositions of limestone clay. The four parcels are La Fiorita, Pian Bossolino, Poggio al Sole and Giardinello, and fruit from each is fermented separately in order to decide which grapes go to the Rosso and which go to the Brunello. In truth, the whole property is registered for the production of Brunello, so the Rosso di Montalcino is in effect a declassified Brunello. The vines average out to be about 20 years old." (01/2019)
Price: $29.99

The estate’s most recently created wine, a white made with 100% Viognier, planted in sandy soil which is in actual fact the bed of an old, dried-up lake. A grape-variety with very limited production and great concentration. A wine which is hard to find, characterised by reduced acidity and outstanding sensorial intensity.

98 points Vinous: "The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is flat-out stunning. Rich, ample and seductive, with tremendous intensity, the 2015 will go down as one of the truly epic wines of the year. All the elements come together in a deep, sensual Chianti Classico loaded with class and personality. I would give the 2015 at least a few years in the cellar to shed some baby fat, but it is very clearly a tremendous wine in the making, and even more impressive than it was last year. Wow! (AG) 98+" (08/2019) 97 points Decanter: "Fontodi'...

91 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dried red fruit, cedar and tobacco on the nose. Quite resolved on the palate now with drying tannins, but enough fruit to carry the finish. Drink now." (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Wild-berry, tobacco, clove and truffle aromas mingle with a whiff of oak. Lean and linear, the palate offers dried cherry, orange zest, toast, oak-driven spice and roasted coffee bean alongside close-grained tannins. (KO)" (03/2019)

100 points James Suckling: "A phenomenal Saffredi with so much structure and length. It’s full-bodied yet remaines agile and lively. Aromas and flavors of currants, mint and wet earth. Full-bodied, chewy and powerful. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot. This has a special label celebrating the 25th anniversary of the production of this wine. It's the greatest Saffredi ever, cementing its reputation as the Lafite of Tuscany. This needs at least five years in bottle but it’s entrancing to drink now. A must-buy for Super Tuscan lovers." ...

2015 Giodo Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "This is a splendid Brunello, showing extraordinary purity of sangiovese character. Cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Full-bodied with incredibly integrated tannins that seem like they are not there. But they are and are comprehensive on the palate. Great depth and agility. Just floats on the palate. Magic carpet. Drinkable, to enjoy the magic, but needs three or four years to come around." (10/2019)

2016 Castello di Ama "San Lorenzo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is immediately more inky and balsamic in terms of aromas. As soon as you lift the wine to your nose, you get pretty tones of blackberry, cassis, rosemary essence, licorice and a touch of medicinal herb. I love when Sangiovese produces those elegant aromas, and for that reason, this wine stands tall among the three single-vineyard expressions from Marco Pallanti and Castello di Ama. It shows fiber, richness and lasting structure with a very well-managed quality ...

2016 Casino di Sala Rosso dei Tatanni Rosso Toscano
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "A beautiful sangiovese that shows fresh blueberries, intense violets, dried herbs and iodine. Juicy and very inviting with round, succulent tannins and a tangy finish. Drink now." (04/2019)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The folks at Fèlsina have been doing a lot of experimental work with Pinot Noir in recent years. The results of those efforts can be admired in this newest wine, the 2011 Pinot Nero Nero di Nubi. This is a robust, all-Tuscan expression that shows a slightly darker and more saturated appearance than you would get in more traditional interpretations of this delicate variety. The bouquet, however, is all Pinot Noir, and you will recognize those familiar and ethereal aromas of wild berries, violets, cassis and wild r...

2010 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore
Back In Stock!
98 points Vinous: "How many dinners anywhere start with a wine on a level with the 2010 Ornellaia? I imagine not many. But that’s exactly the way we get going. Super-expressive aromatics soar out of the glass as the 2010 shows off its personality. Sweet herbs, tobacco, licorice, mocha and tar wrap around a core of intense dark fruit. Racy, powerful and majestic, the 2010 is a total stunner. (AG)" (12/2016) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Poured from the special anniversary bottle, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a truly outstanding w...

2015 San Filippo "Le Lucere" Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "Decadent aromas of ripe fruit, such as plums and peaches with black truffles and porcini mushrooms. Full body, with layers of ripe fruit and round and chewy tannins. Lots of chocolate and fresh mushroom at the finish. A thoroughly terroir-driven red. " (10/2019)

98 points James Suckling: "Amazing aromas of licorice, wet earth, orange peel and lavender. Full body, tight and super compact and polished. Goes on for minutes. Clearly great." (06/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Fontalloro is the best vintage of this landmark wine that I have tasted thus far. 2014 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
93 points Vinous: "Moderately saturated ruby-red. Exotic mineral- and citrus-driven aromas of red cherry, blue fruit liqueur, blood orange and Asian spices, with a sexy floral nuance gaining strength with air. Supple and expansive on the palate, showcasing sweet red cherry and rather savory dark plum flavors lifted by just enough bracing acidity. Densely packed for a 2014 Brunello, at once fleshy and broad but also lively and precise, showing excellent power and cut on the strikingly long finish, characterized by youthfully dusty tannins and a hint of ca...

The Ambra Farm has been owned by the Romei Rigoli family since the middle of the last century. The "Elzana" is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The "Elzana" undergoes maceration on the skins for 20-25 days under temperature control and then goes though malolactic fermentation. Then it spends 2 years in wood (the first year in tonneaux of French oak and the second year in large Slavonian oak barrels). It then spends 1 year in bottle. In Italy the name of Carmignano has been synonymous with fine wine ever since the 13th century, and so great was...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This expression of Merlot is explosive and profound. The 2016 Messorio presents an absolute textbook rendition of Merlot that can be read and appreciated in terms of the layering and overlapping textures of the wine as it rolls over the palate. There is a point of sweetness on the palate, and the wine also shows a bright point of acidity that makes for a great balancing act. I tasted this wine twice, and at my first tasting, I tried it next to the 2015 vintage, thus putting me in a better position to directly com...
