2017 Cantina Andrian Trentino-Alto Adige Pinot Grigio
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "This is a stunning Pinot Grigio for the difficult vintage with a ton of ripe melon, candied orange and just a hint of raisin bread. Ripe, concentrated and mouth-filling, but beautifully balanced with a very long finish that’s deep and lively." (11/2018)

Abbazia is a monastery founded in 1142 by the Augustinian Order of Canons Regular and which produces a range of white and red wines from both estate vineyards at the abbey and from smaller growers near the town of Novacella in the Isarco River Valley. White grapes are grown at the abbey and red grapes such as Schiava, Pinot Noir and Lagrein come from near Lago di Caldaro and the town of Bolzano. According to the winery, the Schiava is "Bright pale ruby, fruity on the nose, with aromas reminiscent of summer fruits and cherry; succulent, gentle and fruity ...

95 points James Suckling: " Love the dried-flower and pie-crust aromas to the sliced-apple character. Full body. Very fruity and vivid. Flavorful finish. Excellent. This will change your mind about Pinot Bianco. Drink now. " (04/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I admit that after I tasted this wine for work, I brought the remnants of the bottle up to my Roman terrace (on one of the first warm days of early spring) and polished off the rest of the bottle with friends. The 2016 Alto Adige Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is just that k...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delicately scented, this elegant white offers enticing aromas of orchard fruit, alpine herb and a whiff of wet stone. Polished and fresh, the palate doles out creamy yellow pear, ripe apple and almond while a hazelnut note lingers on the finish. KO" (08/2019)

93 points James Suckling: " A subtle white with white pepper, thyme, citrus and quartz and other minerals. What this really trades in is minerality, whereby flinty and stoney aromas are conveyed in a linear streak of acidity. Medium-bodied and medium-long on the finish. Drink now." (04/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is the wine that best embodies the identity and personality of this iconic farming cooperative in Alto Adige. The 2018 Alto Adige Terlano Cuvèe is a blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. In...

Thanks to a young team of managers and cellar hands, this up-and-coming estate promises good things in the future. I have noticed encouraging increases in quality each year that I taste these wines."

93 points James Suckling: "Very floral and fruity with hints of pear and melon on the nose. Medium to full body, spicy and minerally undetones to the chalky, almond-tinted fruit. Delicious and intense finish. " (10/2017) 91 points Vinous: "Luminous straw-green. Lively aromas and flavors of nectarine and green apple carry intense floral nuances. The aftertaste is long, cool and brimming with early appeal. Drink through 2021. (ID)" (12/2018)

91 points James Suckling: "This has decent depth of fruit with a rich palate that offers dark berry and chocolate. Smooth tannin resolve. " (10/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Perfumed and fruity at the same time, the barrique-aged 2016 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Furggl is a dark red wine with thick, blackish veins of concentrated color. The bouquet offers varietal aromas of red rose petal, dried cherry and chewy blackberry. The tannins are soft and caressing, and the wine is relatively creamy in texture with a point of bitterness on th...

A family owned winery first established in 1928, Peter Zemmer has built its reputation on producing wines from some of the finest estates in and around Cortina s.s.d.v. in Alto Adige of South Tyrol. According to the winery, the "Caprile" Muller Thurgau is produced with grapes growing at "an elevation of 800 m. (2,500 ft.) on well-arranged terraced slopes of the Lowlands. The favourable altitude of the vineyards on limestone soils, the gentle slope of the hillside, and ideal sunshine give the grapes of this varietal an excellent maturation."

2016 Cantina Terlan "Porphyr" Lagrein Riserva
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "You rarely, if ever, see this level of complexity in a Lagrein, which goes headlong through bracken, tea leaves, vanilla, blackberries, undergrowth, heather and violet extract. Full-bodied and very structured indeed, the chewy tannins envelop layers of compact yet exuberant dark fruit. Elements of undergrowth and spice linger on the long finish. Stunning. Delicious now, but better in 2022. " (04/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Porphyr pours from the bottle with deep and dark...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The oak-aged 2016 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Riserva Giatl is a medium to full-bodied white wine with nuances of summer peach, Golden Delicious apple and lemon mousse. That chorus of yellow fruit flavors is really very beautiful. The wine wraps thickly over the palate with a rich texture and creamy disposition followed by breezy acidity. Some 11,000 bottles were produced. 92+ (ML)" (08/2018)

92 points James Suckling: "Ripe and succulent yet delicately aromatic (honeysuckle) and elegant, this is a sophisticated Pinot Grigio that has a long, lively and slightly smoky finish. " (08/2018) 90 points Vinous: "Dark straw color. Clean and fresh on the nose but also ripe in keeping with the year, with aromas and flavors of pear, honey and yellow flowers. The Pinot Grigio finishes long and luscious. In 2017 this is close in quality to the more expensive, top of the line Auger Pinot Grigio made by San Michele Appiano, and that’s almost never the case...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Peter Zemmer makes bold wines that are determined in their territorial identity. The 2016 Alto Adige Chardonnay Riserva Crivelli offers a strong citrus character with lemon curd and grapefruit concentrate. Those are the high notes, but the low notes veer toward toasted almond and pine nut. The wine opens to an off-gold color with spice and natural rubber. Despite the delicate bouquet, the wine fans over the palate to reveal a firm, mid-weight palate. Only 4,000 bottles were made.ML" (08/2018) 91 points James Su...

93 points James Suckling: "A reserved Lagrein offering a bouquet of pebbles, forest floor, fresh herbs, black pepper and brambleberries. Edgy and spicy on the medium-to full-bodied palate, that boasts a plethora of juicy tannins and a ton of dark fruit. Drink now. " (04/2019)

2017 Cantina Valle Isarco Kerner Alto Adige
Back In Stock!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Alto Adige Valle Isarco Kerner Aristos (vinified only in stainless steel) opens to a dry and dusty personality with an emphasis on salty mineral notes. This is a super refreshing and zesty wine that drinks smoothly and beautifully despite that mineral definition. Crisp grapefruit, lime and balanced almond flavors give substance and volume. This warm vintage shows extra density and intensity. Brimstone and talc powder make for elegant endnotes. (ML)" (08/2018)

93 points Decanter: "Exceptionally fresh with lightly seasoned oak and punchy orchard fruits aromas. A ripe palate with decent acidity, green fruits and herbs to finish." (05/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "A subtle and delicate pinot grigio with white flowers, citrus and sliced green apples. Medium body, bright acidity and a fresh finish. Drink now." (11/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Valle Isarco subzone to the far North of Alto Adige is written Eisacktaler in German, and that's how the appellation is identified on the front label of th...

Monica Larner writes: "Ertse+Neue merged with Cantina Kaltern (Caldaro) at the end of 2016. Together these two wineries create a superpower on the Alto Adige wine scene, and it will be interesting to see what changes these two united brands will put forth in the future."
Price: $19.99

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Alto Adige Valle Isarco Grüner Veltliner Praepositus has voluptuous padding and extra creaminess that gives this wine bigger dimension and richness. You get generous varietal tones of petrol, dried jasmine flower, peachy fruit and honeydew melon. The wine finishes with an appropriate and elegant touch of mineral dryness. (ML)" (08/2018) 90 points Vinous: "Golden-tinged straw. Herbs, nectarine and honey on the reticent nose. Enters chunky and monolithic, then juicy and savory with flavors of apricot and...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This tawny grappa offers dried apricot and golden raisin aromas. The silky, complex palate echoes those dried fruit notes, adding layers of Sherry, vanilla and spice, finishing long and enticing. Ideal as a postprandial sipper. Distilled from the grapes used in Amarone and aged 18 months in small oak casks. *Top 100 Spirits of 2018* (KN)" (04/2018) K&L Notes: Special Order Only! 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine's floral and fruity honeysuckle, citrus and green apple aromas practically jump out of the glass. The juicy, medium-bodied palate doles out ripe Granny Smith apple, Bartlett pear and tangerine flavors, alongside a hint of crushed stone. Tangy acidity lifts the rich flavors. (KO)" (07/2018)

From the winery: Grape variety: Schiava Vinification: Mash fermentation in stainless steel tanks with a long time of contact between mash and wine; storage and ageing in big wooden casks and 5% in Tonneau. Degustation: Intense ruby red with purple reflexes. The Kalterersee Puntay impresses with his fruity and intensive bouquet, reminding on forest fruits and ripe cherries. Full body with subdued acidity and pleasant tannins. Harmonious aftertaste. Dish ideas: Well suited to Mediterranean dishes e.g. roasted fish.

92 points Vinous: "Bright straw green. Fresh and clean white flowers, green apple and minerals on the fresh nose. Then also fresh and vibrant in the mouth, with focused flavors of pomaceous orchard fruit. This lovely wine finishes with an enticing glyceral richness and a touch of ripeness that are more obvious than usual in this wine thanks to the hot growing season. The Schulthauser has always been one of Italy’s best Pinot Biancos, and it’s all the more impressive as it is not made in small numbers. (ID)" (12/2018)

98 points James Suckling: "Phenomenal aromas of blackberries, blueberries, violets, perfume and incense. Some tar, too. Full-bodied yet so refined and polished with incredible subtlety and finesse. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Mind blowing. From biodynamically grown grapes and Demeter certified. Drink in 2020." (12/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Granato has a streamlined elegance that I love. This pure expression of Teroldego sees partial stem inclusion during fermentation (for a third of the total mass). Fermentation occu...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Alto Adige Pinot Nero Riserva Sanct Valentin is a terrific red wine with an edgy, nervous pulse that delivers an interesting yet unpredictable experience. The bouquet is packed tight with forest fruit and tart berry tones of cassis and wild blueberry. Folded within that fruity texture are sour notes of blanched almond, orange peel and tangy notes of medicinal herb or dried mint. This is a highly drinkable and enjoyable wine with near to medium-term accessibility. I would recommend drinking it over the ne...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From yet another great vintage, the 2006 San Leonardo exudes elegance and sophistication. A slightly cooler summer season helped to cement the wine's aromatic complexity and the fresh sense of acidity that lends so much energy and vitality to this wine. This is a great vintage that has only begun to find its true voice. It needs more time in the cellar to complete its evolution. Dark fruit nuances with thick concentration and velvety tannins segue to drying mineral notes and more cherry brightness. I'd suggest an...

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "The intriguing bouquet offers aromas that include leather, candle wax, flax and earthy scents of moss, grass, stone and damp soil. Entry is lusciously ripe and intensely grapy; the midpalate features the ripe grape element. Finishes satiny and stone-like. Delicious. *Best Buy*" (08/2008)
