2016 Domaine de l'Aigle À Deux Têtes Chardonnay "Lices en Peria" Côtes du Jura Blanc

From the importer: "Henri Le Roy farms a few tiny parcels of vineyards in the Cotes du Jura – an area just west of the Swiss border and Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), and just east of Burgundy. He’s an intense man – driven, and smart. In fact, his original career was as a Biologist, in Paris. He was drawn to the Jura by its incredible terroir, with ancient stones and seashells from its Jurassic period namesake. He’s pretty new at this – his first vintage was 2005 – but the results speak for themselves. Unlike many of his counterparts in Jura, he abhors oxidati ...Read More »

Domaine Baud "Cuvée Sauvage" Brut Cremant du Jura

Delicately effervescent, this blend of 30% Pinot Noir and 70% Chardonnay was grown in mainly marl-limestone soils and farmed sustainably (Domaine Baud is certified by Terras Vitis). The winemaker took utmost care to preserve the quality and flavors of the fruit: grapes were harvested manually and gently pressed, dosage was kept to a bare minimum. What resulted is an ode to elegance: pale yellow with silvery green flecks and a very fine mousse, with aromas of grilled green apples, tangerines and wild flowers. On the palate it is supple, finishing with a b ...Read More »

2016 Domaine Baud Poulsard "En Rougemont" Côtes du Jura Rouge

Producer's notes: "The wine making process is traditional. The grapes, that are handpicked and destalked, macerate within a stainless steel tank for about 10 days. In the meantime, the temperature is daily checked, the cap is regularly punched down and the wine is accompanied of several pumping-overs. To the mouth, the wine is easy to drink. The bouquet is franc without being aggressive and the tannins are discreet. The flavours remind us of the nose: Morello cherry, blackcurrant and gooseberry. It is well-balanced and harmonious. This wine has to be ser ...Read More »

2009 Domaine Baud Vin Jaune Château-Chalon (620ml)

Domaine Baud's flagship wine. A powerful, deeply golden elixir with intriguing notes of hazelnuts, almonds, truffle and curry. This shows finesse and elegance in spades, thanks to the very special blue marl soil in which it is grown and careful cultivation. The wines of Château Chalon must be made in the vin jaune style, aging for six years in barrel, which requires a veil of surface yeast to develop. This style of winemaking lends the wine its hallmark characteristics.

2016 Domaine de l'Aigle À Deux Têtes Savagnin-Naturé "Les Clous" Côtes du Jura Blanc

Established in 2004 by Henri Le Roy in the Côtes du Jura, Domaine de l'Aigle À Deux Têtes focuses on producing terroir-driven wines from local varietals. The 'Le Clous Naturé' is made from 100% Savagnin, a local cousin of the Gewürztraminer grape. The wine is barrel-fermented to bring richness and texture to the grapefruit-centered citrus flavors, while a hint of tropical papaya plays a beautiful foil to the strident minerality that the Jura is known for in its wines.

2014 Domaine Dugois Trousseau "En Grevellière" Arbois Rouge

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This pale, ruby red-colored wine comes from old vines planted at 900 feet in the hills. Two years wood aging and the natural concentration of the fruit have produced a finely poised wine with cherry flavors and a balanced layer of tannins. It's ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2017) Wine Spectator: "Modest cherry and blood orange notes glide along, laced with subtle sandalwood and rooibos tea hints. Offers a lightly dusty finish. Has some charm. Drink now. 2014 Domaine de Montbourgeau "En Banode" l'Etoile

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was particularly keen on the 2014 L'Etoile En Banode, which is a 50/50 field blend of Chardonnay and Savagnin planted in 1970 by Nicole's father, picked together and fermented together. En Banode is the name of the vineyard. The idea of Nicole’s father was that by fermenting together, he’d preserve more of the character of the soil, which is not the usual procedure, because in Jura the tradition was to always harvest and ferment Chardonnay and Savagnin separately. This is dry, with tension, and it has a lot of ...Read More »

The Château de Ripaille is located in the far northeastern part of the Savoie appellation, along Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), just four kilometers from Evian-les-Bains, where the famed bottled water comes from. The château dates back to the 14th century, and today it is surrounded by 21 hectares of vines. The soils are mostly limestone, sun-baked glacial deposits and the vines are all Chasselas, the oldest known grape variety (its history dates back at least 5,000 years). 2017 Jean-Claude Masson "Traditionnelle" Vin de Savoie Apremont Vieilles Vignes

David Schildknecht writes: "Jean-Claude Masson is still the arch terroiriste of Apremont, bottling separate wines from numerous sites...and using labels often even more distinctively different from one another than are their bottles’ contents. A welcome development here is that Masson now seems to be consistently taking the time to apply a vintage neck label or overprint, whereas he was formerly by no means alone among Savoyard vignerons in considering vintage-labeling a matter of minor consequence given that he sells everything out in the course of the ...Read More »

2014 Domaine Macle Chardonnay Côtes du Jura (Sous Voile)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Côtes du Jura Chardonnay Sur Voile is a spicy and yeasty white with the Jura twang that aged in barrique under a veil of yeasts for two years, limiting the contact with the yeasts as they don't want too strong of a character of the veil in the wine. It had marked aromas and an electric palate with vibrant flavors and pungent acidity, which made it very long. It has the volume and power of Chardonnay, with more volume than a Savagnin, powerful and round, with a salty finish. (LG)" (12/2017)

In a never-ending search to get their terroir fix, Francophiles of the wine world are increasingly turning to Savoie, one of the country's most dramatic wine landscapes. 2015 Anne et Jean-François Ganevat "La Gravière" Cotes du Jura Blanc

He has now become a star and his wines are highly allocated and sought after by fans all over the world. Jean-François Ganevat is the modern star of the Jura. From Bourdy: "The only grape variety used to make Château Chalon, along with all Vin Jaune, is the Savagnin, which amongst other names used to be called 'Le Naturé' or 'Fromentin'. Its origin is mysterious. From a botanical point of view, it is closely related to the Klevener d'Heiligenstein grape which is cultivated in Alsace and is part of the Traminer family. Legend has it that the grape variety is Hungarian in origin, or perhaps Spanish, but there is no firm evidence for these claims. Vinified in large, old oak barrels and left there to age about four years before bottling, Crinquand’s Savagnin is a profound wine marked by notes of beeswax, cacao and walnut with a penetrating, long, almost tannic finish."
