94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "94+ points "Like the rest of the wines, I tasted the bottled 2018 Flor de Pingus—which I tasted unbottled last year—next to the 2019 that will be bottled in June 2021, and it was great to see how the wines reflected the character of the two vintages. All of the estate vineyards are certified organic, and this is pure Tinta del País, the local strain of Tempranillo, from 40 hectares in five different locations (parajes) of the village of La Horra where the Pingus vineyards are also located. It fermented with natur...

2016 Ausàs "Interpretación" Ribera del Duero
Top Pick!
95 points Decanter: "An exceptional first vintage, from a winemaker who knows Ribera del Duero intimately and understands blending. Dark fruit, liquorice and blueberry aromatics, not in the least oaky. Elegant, pure and refined overall. Fine-grained tannin adds texture and interest, overlaid by black fruits and running through the palate is the keynote freshness of this producer's philosophy. ‘This wine is a keeper,’ says winemaker Xavier Ausás, ‘a minimum of 15 years.’ Drinking Window 2021 - 2031 (JE)" (02/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate...

96 points James Suckling: "A very savory and succulent Alion with so much complexity of flavor with berries, chocolate and dried meat. Some cedar, too. Full body. Vertical and very long. Purity of fruit and tannins to this wine." (09/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The highly anticipated 2016 Alión spent 12 months in oak barrels, 80% of them new and built mainly with French oak but with some 5% American oak, and some 10% of the volume matured in 15,000-liter concrete vats. It hits the scale at 15% alcohol and has moderate acidity, showi...

Produced from organically grown Tempranillo grown in the high elevation village of La Aguilera - a spot making a splash for the quality of its old vines and resulting wines - this tastes like fresh, tangy plums, with a character that is very drinkable and expressive. From our experience, it's rare that unoaked Tempranillo truly knocks it out of the park, but this one absolutely does.

Bodegas Antídoto is located in San Esteban of Gormaz (Soria), at the center of a nucleus of villages such as Soto de San Esteban, Miño de San Esteban, Matanza, Villálvaro and Alcubilla de Marqués, to the south of the Duero river Duero, on sandy land with abundant pebbles. Their wines come from the old Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vineyards and are managed biodynamically. Winery note: "Roselito is the younger sister to Antidoto's 'Le Rosé.' The traditional blending of Albillo and Tinto Fino from old vines result in this notably original wine." *Biodynamic*

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Mauro, from a very challenging year, feels like a real triumph over the conditions of the harvest, as they had some zones where they didn't have any frost. The wine feels complex and with moderate acidity. Furthermore, they now use 4,000-liter oak foudres for the élevage of part of the wine. This some tannins, and it has grip and balance, a chalky texture and a dry, serious finish. They did shorter macerations and managed to keep the freshness. (LG) 92+" (12/2019) K&L Notes: Bodegas Mauro was founded b...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Cropped from a cooler year, the 2016 Garmón is fresher, cooler and juicier, with elegant and polished tannins. The process is similar every year, and the differences are mostly due to vintage variations, but in this vintage, they used a higher percentage of used barriques for the élevage (50/50 new and used). 2016 is fresher, more elegant and a little lighter. It has a medium to full body and some grainy tannins. Give it a little more time before you pull the cork. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June ...

Composed of Tempranillo from Pedrosa de Duero, and then aged in all French oak barrels (1/3 new, 1/3 one year-old, 1/3 two year-old), this Ribera shows dark cherry and red plum fruited aromas. Approachable now, it is also serious enough to age a while in your cellar. Pago de los Capellanes is one of the most consistent producers in all of Ribera del Duero. They always seem to make very good quality, fresh, nicely structured wine, with tasty fruit, bright acidity and well balanced oak. This is a very solid Ribera del Duero for the money.

96 points James Suckling: "A very savory and succulent Alion with so much complexity of flavor with berries, chocolate and dried meat. Some cedar, too. Full body. Vertical and very long. Purity of fruit and tannins to this wine. Needs two or three years to soften. Release in 2020. Better after 2022." 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Both the bottle poured in January and then in June 2012 attested to a truly great Unico in this year. The 1967 is a blend of 75% Tinta Fino, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec, Merlot and the white grape variety, Albarino. It has superb intensity on the nose with baked black cherries, singed leather, apricot blossom, eau-de-vie and liquorice. It is vivacious and floral, unfolding with each sip. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, vivacious almost port-like fruit intensity. It is initially a lit...

99 points James Suckling: "This is still very tight and closed with so much depth and beauty. The linear line to this is very vertical and draws you down. It shows intense blackberry, dark-chocolate, hazelnut and walnut character. Full body. Chewy yet extremely polished. Precise. Shows decadence. So drinkable already, but better in 2022." (12/2019) 98 points Decanter: "Unico is Tinto Fino, with 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, in contrast to Valbuena No.5, which has a small dash of Merlot. It opens with alluring aromas of dark plums, spice and oak. As expected, ...

Of the 2004 Aalto Ribera del Duero,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2004 Aalto has a far different personality than the 2003. More deeply colored, it is also significantly more expressive aromatically. It reveals pain grille, pencil lead, wild blueberry, black raspberry, and blackberry liqueur notes. Opulent on the palate, it has layer upon layer of ripe fruit, and superb length but is still an infant developmentally. Give this top-flight effort 6-8 years to further evolve and drink it through 2032. (JM)" (02/2007)

Of the 2005 Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero,Wine Spectator writes: "This red packs a lot of flavor on a supple frame. Black cherry, blackberry, smoke, mineral and espresso notes show focus and depth, backed by firm but well-integrated tannins that dissolve on a finely etched, floral-scented finish. *Highly Recommended, Top 100 Wines of 2008*" (10/2008)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Dominio de Pingus "Amelia" Ribera del Duero ((92-94RP), 94ST, 94VN). Vinous: "Dark purple. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes candied black and blue fruits, licorice and potpourri, with smoke and mineral overtones. Lush and expansive, with hefty boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors underscored by racy acidity and a touch of floral pastille. The licorice note comes back strong on an uncommonly long finish highlighted by a sexy floral quality. (JR)" (09/2012)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Malleolus is 100% Tinta del Pais which was barrel-fermented and aged for 18 months in French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it offers an expressive perfume of toasty oak, pencil lead, spice box, mineral, and black fruits. This is followed by a structured, firm wine that has excellent depth and length. It will evolve for 5-7 years and provide pleasure through 2020. (JM)" (02/2008)
